I asked this because in my personal opinion I consider "GB" to be just table scraps for our phones and will more than likely skip the official release if and when it comes out. Rite now im using "void#delta" and "mik_os kernal + lag fix" and I must say it is incredible. "ICS"=Ice Cream Sandwich Android 3.1 for those that didnt know.
I think asking for ICS is pushing it because considering many phones aren't even expecting gingerbread anytime soon and we got a time frame that we might get it. Considering our phone is considered entry level so we probably wouldn't get it. Well we just have to wait and see how well LG plans to update their phones. LG promised us at least 1 update(GB). We probably won't get it, but there's small hope with LG.

3.1 is Honeycomb (an updated version of it) ... ICS does not even have a version number as of now ... considering that ICS would probably release by the end of the year, I highly doubt this phone will get another update ...
If you can already see, this phone is getting cheaper and cheaper ... and soon LG will replace this with something better ....

Doubtful, it's a lot more work than you think.
Also I just watched the video on that and he never even shows what version of the Android OS he has. Not saying it's a lie, just saying i'm skeptical because he never goes through the settings and shows the Firmware Version or any Software Information for that matter. Could very well just be a rom that's themed to the Honeycomb OS.
I have faith that every single version of AndroidOS in the foreseeable future will have a compile or port for the Eris, and in relatively quick fashion since devs put a quick compile or port out first just to show that it can be done, and then work to see if they can work out the kinks. I assume that the reason Gingerbread has been developing on the Eris so much faster than Froyo did because some of what was learned from work on Froyo is applicable to GB, as far as getting certain things working: Wifi, BT, Camera...
So, I have no trouble believing that someone will make a Honeycomb ROM for the Eris sometime sooner rather than later; it's just unknown if it'll really be worth it because of all the things that might get "broken" with it on the Eris. Especially since Honeycomb isn't meant for phones at all, just tablets.
I don't know if this is accurate; it's confusing if it is but it's a WIKI so it might not be, but at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system) it says that even though Honeycomb is 3.0, that a 2.4 is still planned for April, and that it's only sometime after that, 2.4 and 3.0 will be recombined into Ice-Cream Sandwich about mid-2011.
I further guess that the reason that Google had this split in their Android OS was to get a major new Android OS onto new tablets, but that they won't allow this split to get abused and continued for long at all, so 2.4 will be for phones and then Ice-Cream Sandwhich will probably be for both phones and tablets.

Maybe it would be delayed here in Asia but maybe versions from Europe or America would be released earlier. The same thing that happened in their eclair update for the optimus gt540. I guess we can always use kdz updater and download versions of.other countries...still mad though

I agree. I wish they release just the sources
if they cud just release the sources..the devs cud work on them i m thinking of sending another email to them..btw whats up with these custom roms based on this leaked 2.3 rom???good enough for everyday non gaming use???
i tot delay until July ??
when delay until August ???
I think they released the buggy leaked version intentionally for guys like mik , frnaco , andy to fix it . I am sure that , if the leaked version bugs are fixed , the 2.3 will appear .
LG two words for you... @#$% YOU!!!! Lazy ass!!!
Hahahah IMHO within some days they'll make some leaked sources "magically" appear and when our developers will have fixed them, they'll just copy the fixes and release GB for O1...
This is hardly a surprise. Have you noticed that no LG phones have gingerbread at all? Not even the brand new ones. I think the ginger update will only be released when it works on all phones including the Optimus 2X and the Optimus Black. I don't really think we will see the update for the Optimus One before then.
Anyhow, I think this is mostly irrelevant. I got this phone back in November as a stop gag / entry point onto the smartphone land and it served it's purpose. To me, there isn't much point in updating it.
That doesn't mean old phones shouldn't be updated, they should, but with the Android update methods/structures I can't see this being very feasible. That's why I eagerly await to see what will Google do with Ice cream Sandwich to keep that "18 months" up to date promise they made. If the answer isn't very convincing I'll just switch to Windows Phone 7. That's what I originally wanted but the platform wasn't very mature, now with the Mango update things look very different.
All in all, let's see what Google will do on Q4 and then I, and you guys as well, will decide what to do.

Well man, from your point of view maybe you're right...
But I choosed Android because it is an open-source OS, so it has its pros and its cons... The mainly pro is that if your brand doesn't decide to update your OS or your phone is not supported officially, there will be a developer who will try to port another source to your device...
will this software upgrade eventually make its way to the TB?
Im sure this has been covered before.
Don't hold your breath. Updates seemed to be few and far between. You will see a fully functioning ICS from one of the fine developers here long before an official release comes out OTA.
Sit back, relax and soon.. maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow.. but soon...
WE WILL HAVE ICS! MUHHH HAAH AHAHA
We could hope that ICS makes it to the Thunderbolt.

Well said.
I doubt we will ever see an OFFICIAL ICS build for the Thunderbolt. I just don't see HTC and Verizon spending the time on it with all the newer phones coming out.
I am confident we will get a full ICS ROM from our developers. There is already a booting port of it. No connectivity, but it boots!
Not offically
I'm sure we'll get a good working AOSP rom, CM9 is slated to fully supported the thunderbolt, as far as from HTC is concerned, it's seems very clear that the only announced supported devices from the big manufactuers, Samsung, HTC, Motorola are the dual core phones that were made recently, theirs no doubt in my mind the thunderbolt can handle ICS very well, but it'll probably get too laggy once they throw memory and resource intensive sense on top of it. I would bet money on the fact that the thunderbolt will never see official ICS
You'll notice that the Nexus S runs it fine, and other manufacturers like Sony Ericsion that have very light skins or none at all, can upgrade to ICS, they've vowed to do it for all Xperia devices launched this year at minimum.
I so wish they would drop the skins from Android devices. ICS don't need a skin, maybe older android versions needed skins to clean it up and make it user friendly but not any more.
I find it interesting how an update hasn't been issued in months, and the leaked update (198_7) never ended up being officially released. I wonder if that means either Moto has given up updating the phone or they are waiting for a newer GB or ICS build to release?
I'm very happy with my Photon with 198_7, although I have received the muted auto issue a few times that I thought Moto had fixed.
This is typical behavior. Updates don't typically happen every couple of months with android. There's a huge gap between them and its always been this way where have you been? Moto isn't focusing on updating gingerbread anymore there aren't major issues with our phone just minor. Their main focus is ice cream on newer devices including the photon. Again, manufacturers have always been silent about updates unless its a pure Google device i.e nexus, nexus s. Moto is hard at work right now to bring us some official ics real soon. My guess is some time before spring break (March-ish) not to forget stupid sprint still has to approve it which could take a month or two :rolls eyes:

Sprint won't be stupid if they wait a month or two testing ICS before an offical OTAP. They've learned from past OS OTAPs that careful QA/QC of OS upgrades are manadtory for the best customer experience.
I for one am not worried whether not we get any updates of gingerbread. The only problem I ever had with this phone with random restart in that was cured with 198_7. As for ice cream sandwich I'm not worried whether not moto pushes out a build. I think ice cream sandwich itself is flawless and should not be skinned. I will be happy with a fully functional cm 9.

Yeah we have a build that works better than most of these other phones that have a build.
You know I love how motorola builds it's own homes not based off release blah I can't think... Everyone should know waht I mean the gingerbread interface google released was way different from waht we got which I think is way better than googles!

Ok, please don't blast me, and I am not starting this thread to start a fight. I just really want some advice. I love the rezound, and I would like to get it over the Gnex as I don't like a lot of things about the Nex. However, I had the TB, and now the Bionic and I just don't want to be waiting on a never ending cycle to get to the lastest software(IE 4.0, 5.0 etc.) The reason I say this, is I know like with the TB it seems like the Devs have to build a whole new RIL in order to get the software to work with the hardware(at least in the GB and now the ICS update for the TB) and I don't want to have to wait for the same thing when JB comes out at the end of the year, but I also don't want to upgrade again in 6-9 months. I hope I have made my dilemma clear. I would like to know if you, as rezound owners, think this may happen, as I may just jump (regretfully) to the Gnex.
Also, Let me make this clear, I am in NO WAY degrading the Devs work here or else where, I am just impatient. And don't want to wait for many months for fully working roms that may or may not come. But there are a few main things I REALLY like on ICS, but the current build are just so buggy on my current devices that it's not worth using as a DD. Please don't think this is me fussing, or anything of the sort, it's just I'm looking for advice. Thanks.
The current ICS builds are pretty good. The devs did a great job with them.
As to your question about JB, only time will tell. I don't think that anyone has an answer to that.
I've had both BAMF's and Scott's ROMs on my Rezound, they are both very stable. The only thing HTC has said about the update regarding the Rezound is that it'll come later this year. It is not listed in the first batch of phones.
"According to HTC, we can expect to see the updates begin to roll out by the end of March for the original Sensation, Sensation 4G, Sensation XE, followed shortly there after by the Sensation XL. The following batch of devices will include the Rezound and Incredible S, but there is no time frame listed for that device other than, “later this year."

I don't mean as much for ics as it appears to be currently working well on the device. I'm not shy about flashing. I'm just worried that the next version jelly bean may miss the device and it will be left to the devs to get it up and running. But that's been even harder on them recently, Atleast with my experience with the tbolt, as they have to built the Ril from the ground up, or so I understand. So I don't want to be stuck on current software. I'm not saying it will happen, I just want advice on whether I should take the chance with the rezound. I do really like the device.
It was my understanding that Jelly Bean was more like a Honeycomb release...
The operating system's next version jelly bean will be optimized for tablets
