Moved to proper forum.
I haven't tried the desktop hack, but judging from the pictures, that cradle will not work for that, only for charging and data transfer.
The original dock has two connectors, one for data and charge and the other for hdmi output.
This one has only data/charge connector.
Cheers

... without the official dock, using ONLY a modified usb cable?
Ive been searching and found the SG can do it using a 619kohm resistor between GND and ID pin 4 on the micro usb cable.
Has anyone tried this with the atrix? Or found out what values are needed to activate each dock mode?
Get the app "Any Cut"....just make a shortcut to the car dock app to the home screen. With Any Cut, you can create a shortcut to almost every app on the phone.
Was wondering if anyone had done it with a DIY cable using the resistor method.
Why not just get the actual dock?
It's not expensive!
I'm just saying!

Because i want to plug my phone into the usb cable and leave it in my arm rest so would be a waste to buy a whole mount to be left in my arm rest plus I dont think it would fit in there either.

Android Dock Simulator
Get android simulator from the market. With the click of a button it will activate dock mode.
Download Android Dock Simulator
Got mine today. Looks nice, comes with AC and USB cable. The View fits nicely into the cradle and dock mode kicks on automatically as advertised. My only ding for this unit is you can't sync and charge at the same time. Well, it charges off USB, but not the same as with AC power direct into the unit; it's much slower to pick up a full charge regardless of whether the USB cable is plugged directly into a computer or powered hub.
Overall a nice accessory that gets the View off it's back and frees up a little space on the desk or end table. 4 thumbsups
Edit: HTC needs to have the sh!t slapped out of them for using that stupid proprietary plug and socket design on this device. They munged up an otherwise totally awesome tab!
Where did you get it? How much? Is it the OEM white version?

The That Amost Dock Rocks!
I have the dock, I just hate having to take the unit out of its case all the time and then put it back in when I take it out of the dock. The proprietary connector does suck and sucks even more because you cannot get the cables from anywhere. They should have put two connectors on the dock, one for syncing and one for charging like they did for the dock that came with the 6700.
I got mine from Sprint for $49.95 retail (but I had a 30% off card from Sprint) and it is OEM,but its black.

It will, but it takes ages to charge the Flyer through a standard USB c able.
Can you post a photo and link?

That's why I was saying I wanted a dual connector like the 6700 had.
USB has a max of 0.5 A and the Charger 1.67 A so it takes about 3x longer
i just purchased this From the sprint store and got the error message that the device is using a later version of software. I have the HDMI MHL converter connected to this as well. Anyone else have this problem?
Ok so i HATE the car home launching on the dock, my X2 and OG Droid used a magnet to trigger the home but Razr uses a resistor in the usb pins. Without proper tools to rework the internal wiring i decided to completely replace the usb internals with a oem moto charger (from my X2 bundle) and hey it turned out well, and actually slides in better than before. (i had the phone in the dock plugged in when i applied the bonding agent to the back of the mount to ensure it was lined up correctly)
Want to sell the old guts?
I'd like to know how to make my phone go into dock mode without a dock.
My car has a place to sit the phone that works great but, no auto rotate.
Its junk to me, message me your address and I'll throw it in the mail in an envelope. The 43c is on me
If you haven't mailed it out, would you mind taking some full-on, hi-res pics of the components on the board? Might help those looking to simulate a dock connection without shelling out for the moto dock.
Sure I'll snap some shots of it and post them here.
Looking those pictures, I bet that's the same PCB inside the Webtop Travel Adapter. I just wonder if you could solder a USB A Male connector on the usb leads in place of the micro USB connector and then plug it into a usb hub connected to the y adapter w/power and OTG Cable and enable webtop...
Board closeups.
If you install the google car home app it will allow you to exit car mode while docked..no need to mod it.
I got the app here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081009

The problem isn't leaving the home app, its that it launches any launcher at all, it messes up things im doing example docking a paused netflix movie. Also more importantly it was causing hell with my launcher7, blanking out icons and such, even with a app that launches no car dock it still launches that app as a "home".
I get in and out of my car 20-50 times a day, i wish you could just disable the car dock in the system settings. all in all im happy with the dock now, the slider fits perfect now, before i had to wiggle it.
Why not just freeze the dock app?

How solid is the mount for if it were to be used for video capture while the car is in motion. I used to use my old HTC Incredible for OnBoard "GoPro" like video while I drive at the track. If this is solid I plan on doing the same.
Um...isn't there an app for blocking the dock app (NoDock). Requires root.
Been on vacation. Thanks for snapping the pics!
I have the opposite problem, my razr dont detect car dock, without this not working audio-by-microusb cable (original cardock cool feature). Help me, software reasons already excluded.
who may help me? may any software force _real_ car mode?
After 4 years my RAZR is finally dead (RIP) and I replaced it with another smartphone (Lenovo, but who cares)
One of the features I miss from RAZR is it beautiful car dock with charger, and the phone's ability to enter/exit car mode automatically.
So it's interesting if it's possible to try and use it, after some modification, on other phones

The question : what does the phone do for this detection ? is it pure hardware particular implementation or any phone is capable to detect this type of wiring and it's just a matter of software to do something with it?
Hello!
I'm planning to but original dock for my RAZR, and I see that there are two versions of it. What are differences between them?

It bugging me, since they are looking the same but the second one is much more expensive. And description is the same.
Cheaper one has only one USB port for charging, another is equipped with hub and three USB ports. HDMI micro socket is in both models.
Ed. Ale bardziej opłaca się złożyć samemu =]
Also, The more expensive dock has a standalone Firefox web browser. I purchased the more expensive one and use a usb mouse and a bluetooth keyboard and it's like having a full PC on your TV through the HDMI cable. You could probably do the same thing with the less expensive dock if you have a Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard combo but I am pretty sure you can only go into mirror on display mode vs the full webtop application. Either way, I think it would be a worthwhile purchase in my opinion. I enjoy using it.
Additionally I was told that the less expensive model does not include the mini HDMI cable. Not sure if that would influence your decision or not.
I'm just wondering. And I don't mean to jack the mans thread, but has a powered USB hub ever been successfully patched into the dock interface? If its easy enough I might try modding mine.

So, basically in more expensive model you can access Webtop, while in cheaper one, you can't, right? Or am I wrong and it's only USB ports and browser difference?
Also, lack of HDMI cable is no problem. I can get one easily xD
The one I have has no USB ports. It only has HDMI, Audio and a micro USB charging port. I'm just wondering if a USB splitter can be added some way?

@UrbanDroid
But can you acces Webtop App like on more expensive one? If it doesn't have Webtop app then it's not worth to buy it.
Also I have questions for other. Is it possible to attach normal USB hub to it and make it work like expensive dock? I mean, connect normal HUB with three normal USB slots and one microUSB for charging. Is it even possible without tearing dock apart? I know it's less stylish then buying expensive one, but unfortunatelly I can't afford it xD Life is brutal and stuff.
Webtop is in your phone, not the dock. The docks play some tricks with USB pins so the phone knows which dock it's in and which mode to activate.
People have used USB hubs to add devices to the RAZR, with or without a dock. The only caveat is that the hub must have its own power supply and you may have to make a cable to have it work. Google around for it.
The ICS leak (.211/OTA?, at least) will enable webtop without using a dock at all. Just plug in an HDMI cable and you're good.
Confirming. I've got the simple dock for free with the costco verizon deal recently. No mHDMI cable included. However the web top works the same through the dock as with the cable only (upgraded to ICS right away, so can't tell for GB, but who cares now, as JB is coming? ). Tinkering with the idea of installing a USB hub board inside the dock. Looks straight forward, just need to measure the inside compartment to get a proper hub for parts.

Hi,
do you know any deals available to France ?
I'm really considering switching my HP touchpad and Galaxy Nexus for a Lapdock and upgrade the Nexus for a better phone with the proper outputs... Do you think it's worth it ?

I bought the Motorola Atrix Lapdock since I couldn't find any sub $100 portable HDMI displays. The only affordable displays I could find were USB only. With the Atrix Lapdock and some adapters, I was able to use it as a portable display for several devices, which is great for traveling.
It's a good idea to remove the plate on the docking area (underneath where the phone would be). It makes it easier to plug in the adapters or have to sand/shave them less. You can easily pull it off with your finger nails (the plate actually has a couple of magnets to keep it in place, and two small plastic clips).
........................................................................................................................................................
The Sony Xperia S works fine with the Lapdock, including the Keyboard, USB Ports (THE USB PORTS SUPPLY POWER FROM THE LAPDOCKS INTERNAL BATTERY SO YOU CAN DIRECTLY PLUG IN EXTRNAL HARD DRIVES, OR USB DEVICES THAT REQUIRE POWER WITHOUT THE NEED OF Y SPLITTERS AND WHAT NOT), and the touchpad works as well. Charging the phone does not work when the lid is open (Only works when the lid is closed).
Additionally, the two adapters that connect to the Lapdock had to be modified to fit. I had to shave off some excess plastic around the connector with a Dremel grinding bit.

FOR SONY XPERIA S & OTHER MOBILE PHONES THAT SUPPORT USB OTG AND HAVE A SEPRATE HDMI PORT (DOES NOT WORK WITH MHL ADAPTERS!)

(Item Z) Micro USB B Male to Female (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270928425953)
(You will need a (Item C) Micro HDMI to Standard HDMI Cable (If you do not already own one) which you can purchase here : http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003UH0Z9Q)

Step 1: Shave/trim the female end of item X untill it fits the the male end of the HDMI port on the lapdock.
Step 2: Connect any end of item Y into the male end of item X (which should be connected to the lapdock).
Step 3: Connect the Standard end of the HDMI Cable into item Y (which should be connected too item X).
Step 4: Connect the Micro HDMI end into your phone's HDMI Port (Know set your phone to the side for know).
Step 5: Shave/trim the female end of item Z into it fits in to the male end of the micro USB port on the lapdock, once you confirm it fits then leave it plugged in to the lapdock, then connect the other end to your phone.
WOLA! You should know see your phone's screen or the TV Launcher App on the Motorola Lapdock! Additonaly if you are on the go you then you can buy a Universal Windsheld Mount for your phone and stick it to the back of the Lapdock and then clamp it to your phone.
