So I took a peak inside the Android File Transfer package and plainly sitting in there is libmtp.dylib.
Since I can't find any other pre-compiled versions of libmtp and I don't have the dev tools installed on my iMac, has anyone tried to either replace this file and set permissions with another pre-compiled? Or better yet, has anyone attempted to compile a new Android File Transfer with a newer version of libmtp? (is AFT even open source?)
So I'm not a programmer and don't know jack about Android, but on my new phone (mot triumph), this issue seems my limiting factor for getting music onto the phone (from a mac).
I CANNOT believe with billions in resources, google is just sitting there not giving a crap about this bottleneck.
There's a newer version of libmtp that in theory supports the Tab 10.1.
In practice, though, trying to backport the Tab 10.1 improvements didn't get my anywhere on Ubuntu. (Simply upgrading libmtp was not possible due to some compatibility issues with existing Ubuntu apps.)
Who knows if Ubuntu 11.10 will improve this situation.
In the meantime, I use ADB push/pull for file transfer, or for large files, the USB host adapter and a thumb drive.
I am trying to help someone debug some software on one of these tablets and i am running into an issue with the file system.
This program has a PC component along with an App on the device.
The PC program uses adb to push the db and image files to the device.
On my phone when I plug it in to the usb port I just tell it to Charge only and everything works peach keen.
But I am finding with a lot of tablets there is no option to just let the device be pluged in and it will auto mount the "sdcard" file space for copying files over.
From the screen shots I have gotten it seems like the system is making a Sym Link to the drive space on the tablet.
As in it isn't showing up as a removable drive like my phone does when you mount the sdcard, but it looks to be under computer\GT-p7500\Tablet\
and the typical trick of clicking on the address bar to get an absolute address return no drive letter.
It is a stock unrooted device, and what I am looking for is if there is a way to keep it from mounting the "sdcard" or how it is mounting it with in the windows file system.
It has been slow going as the guy I am trying to help is in the Netherlands and I am in the states so there is a bit of lag on correspondence
Thanks for any help you can pass my way

I'm having the hardest time finding some program to be able to open and edit the system.img and data.img on my Mac, or my PC or in Ubuntu. It's pissing me off hardcore.
When I try to mount them in OSX it says there are no mount points. In Windows it just gives me an error, alone with Ubuntu. If anyone can help me out, that would be great. It's impossible to port anything without being able to edit these. Thanks

Does anybody know of a good method to mount android file systems (4.0+) on Linux? I want to be able to mount my sdcard remotely (TCP) and manage my files on my desktop. I've tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821601 but this is very buggy. I'd prefer a way to integrate mtpfs and mount to a directory.

this is IMHO best solution
Hi to all. A couple of months ago I attempted an uninstall/reinstall of linux(dualboot with windows7) on my laptop due to a fs corruption. I failed, though obviously I still have windows running, but I'm left with the grub boot partition which is preventing a new install of linux. I don't wanna mess with my boot partition so I may do a windows reinstall(I have no restore point). All I want to know is, can I move adb/flashtool(windows) to my external drive to restore after this and would it just be the ADB/fastboot folders, or would I have to go through the whole download process again? Thanks
