Hi guys,
I have heard that after the update you will loose all your data and apps, the new Backup and Restore from SE can give you a backup of contacts and data, but what about the applications?
I personally used Titanium Backup with root access on my 1.6, but now that the root wont be possible in 2.1 (so far) I am wondering which application for restoring my apps would be good?
any idea?

The first thing I'll be trying is THIS.
good tip, however, I still need to know how to backup all my apps without using root!! I think sonyericsson have been thinking about this, is not possible that everyone lost all their apps and have to reinstalled them one by one

Have you tried Astro as suggested on another thread? Considering you can root and unroot with an app I don't know why people are so afraid of doing it.
Im not afraid of rooting, Im afraid of rooting not working on 2.1 for some time. I Have not idea ...
I tried ASTRO and I think it works, it never asked for root and Im now backing up everything
thanks

Well at least we'll find out tomorrow.
Astro only restores the applications but not the data, so still not the proper solution :S
any other suggestion?
The current methods (X10Root, Androot) are not working with 2.1.
That is a fact.
I use a PC suite called 91 PC suite, look it up on google, its basically in Chinese, but language can be changed to English, it has an option of backing up apps as well, though it never asked for root, but I've used it after I've rooted my phone. nice piece of software, you guys should check it out

Hey all, I need a simple temp root for my Archos 70 running 2.3.28.
I just need to backup all my apps with Titanium pro and transfer them over to Uruk/CM7.
Any way to do it?
At the moment there is no solution for this that I'm aware of. Still if someone does know i also would like to know it.
Btw anyone that knows if there is a new archangel app on the way? Or is this just not possible anymore on 2.3? (Never ever again? @Froyo)

You should root with chulris method
It is just "hard" as the installation of urukdroid
As Uruk asks you while installing if it should copy the data from your installation,
what do you need that for?

I must have skipped that option when I installed it the first time
Guess I'm going to install it again
How would I go about installing UrukDroid so that I can have it showup on the OpenAOS multiboot menu?

Just had my tablet rooted but it doesn't say 9.9.9 software version. Is something wrong? My friend said he followed the steps by indirect. it still says software version 1.4.0
Hello @jumpman23j welcome to the forums, WHICH ROOT METHOD DID YOU USE?
ok i'll guess and say Indirect's, if so please follow his other thread specificly to stop OTA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405418

Yes you should be good now but i would even recommend to freeze device manager an unfreeze whenever you need to download from B&N app. You need titanium backup pro for that purpose.

Can you please explain the need for titanium backup pro again? So since I blocked the OTA I can't currently download from B&N? Sorry for the stupid questions. And thanks for your help and time.
Have you rebooted it at all. Mine only showed 9.9.9 after I did this

TiBU Pro is so you can freeze DeviceManager.apk, which, if you want to feel truly safe from OTA's, you can do. the problem with doing that is that if DeviceManager is frozen, you can't dl from B&N. You would need to unfreeze (thaw) it, dl what you want, then freeze it again.
I am not sure this is absolutely needed, but hey, an ounce of prevention...

Question: If I never ever plan to download from B&N, can I leave device manager frozen? Or would that screw something else up down the road?

i think if you freeze device manager, the info for the owner of the device under device info becomes unavailable... not sure if thats important to you but yeah...
aside from freezing the B&N app store it also turns your owner info into unavailable.
if you did the extreme debloat from indirect's nook and zergy then the unavailable thing has already been applied...
Well I did nook and zergy way back, to root the tablet. But I don't know if I did extreme debloat, unless that's just automatically part of the nook and zergy process.
Is there a way to apply the extreme debloat option without running a whole new root?

i think adb hijack is what your looking for... i don't really know how to use it though lol, might learn how soon though so i can push some vid files directly to /data instead of having to transfer to sd card first and then to /data
still have 2.5 gb of internal left...
Hello, my healthy advice is research a bit more until you understand more of how all this works. If you want to re-root and you do it wrong you can brick you device and get a big exclamation mark, read carefully and ask whatever you don't understand before you do things. If I be you first of all i will ask myself exactly how I want my nook to act, in the end you be sure if you want full debloat or not but if you do you wont have support on indirects thread (that is stated in his start post [OP]) is why I say read carefully.
Now for re-root with a newer version of nook&zergy by Indirect you need (must) to install his adb hijack application, you can find that application (app) in apps and themes section of this forum.
Have fun.

Hi,
This is my first time writing here so excuse any of my mistakes.
Its been one year that I own the galaxy s3 and it seems to me very slow, with too many lags. And becomes even slower any time I join wifi and even worse when I finish surfing at facebook.
I always have 700mb RAM out of 830mb. I tried everything, reduce animation, disable ripple effect, clear cache etc. Nothing !!!
Im afraid rooting, mainly because I don’t want to start all over againg setting up wifi passwords, apps etc.
I would like your advice, either for improvement without root, or for the best way to root, cyanogenmod etc.
Thanx

Rooting can speed up your phone alot, it did for me. You won't have to put in passwords and whatnot if you just root and modify the stock rom. If you say install cyanogenmod, then that's installing a new operating system so you wont have all your settings saved, apps and data can be backed up by using titanium backup though.
Best and easiest way to root would be CF-Auto root http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/gt-i930x-t-n-cf-auto-root-t1957273 Just follow the instructions on that.

The reason you root your device is to gain access to the root directory of your device. You won't lose apps or data, only if you flash a custom rom (unless you make a backup).

i recommend Custom ROM. Once you succeed in flashing rom. U will njoy trying new roms in our device.
Follow Instructions & do carefully. Rooting is justa one time process.
Later on you can flash new roms any times.

Rooting is just granting access to the root directory on your device, this wont speed your phone up at all. Depends, if you want to overclock it with a custom kernel then you can speed it up, otherwise because you have just granted root access you would probably still have all the bloatware on it, removing this can speed up your phone aswell, because this will give you more ram.
Then there always another way, which is to flash a custom rom, they dont usually have any bloat, if any at all, so they can be faster

Not to worry though,if you read everything before you flash a custom rom and follow the developers instructions, you should be fine. But never forget a backup of your apps and data or youll just have to download them all again. Also making nandroid backups is recommended if anything goes wrong at any point, I said that assuming you would have custom recovery
Thanks

Heu there guys, any guide/list of apps safe to be debloated on our non rooted G6?
+1!
Can't remember what thread it is but there's an app called LG package disabler that will on install show what can be disabled/debloated. I'll go back and look but I'm pretty sure they mention under read more that they'll have a listing of what's debloatable in a future update. App is 99¢ over been using icebox since it was the first sick app I came across that did this. Using it with greenify has helped with battery life for me. Not as good as root and pulling the bloat off the phone, but at least it's not eating resources of frozen

Beautiful man. Even in custom roms I can pull 100mb from the build. And this is exactly what I've been looking for. Gonna dig into it deeper later on.
Now we just need a way to install mods to the stock build. Using the dual speaker mod for example. Is there anyway anybody knows to make those changes through adb? Like this deal? (which I've yet to try admittedly) seems as if you should be able to push an apk or file to the system through adb. Can you change the name on the file mentioned using this method or something like it or is it a root only thing?
The reason I'm pushing on this is that when you take your rig to an LG tech they need some way to modify things if needed. How would they do it is my $1,000,000.00 question.
And seriously guys, if I'm posting in the wrong place let me know please. Thanks
Good find! ?

Factory restore should not restore them, I have not tried it though. Hard to say if OTA will or not but also shouldn't.
Updating with LG Bridge I think will restore them though.

adb method = disabling apps that can't be disabled/accessed via the Apps menu.
apks are still in the system; gonna need root to clear that out for real
Does this void warranty or nah? Does using ADB for things like this or Greenify void warranty? That's my only issue before trying this out
