Please help with flashing error after ODIN - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got my replacement phone (lucky me) after first one got a cracked screen.
I was at JI6 stock and wanted to get Simply Honey 3.5 REVO.
So first I flashed the 3.3 update coming from froyo as was in the instructions and I got stuck at boot look with rainbow. My only choice was to odin back to stock, and here is where I am stuck....
I tried JI6 with or without re-partion and get the following error
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
copy default media content failed.
I also tried Eugene's JK2 that doesn't brick and got a similar error, but there was an option to reformat SD Card, but I can't select it, since in 3e recovery power button won't work...
Please someone help me...

+1 to this. I'm having the same problem.

did you do all of this?
- Install Instructions v3.3
1. Place Simply3.3Update1.zip on your internal sdcard
2. Boot into clockwork recovery
3. Perform a factory reset.
4. Select the zip file and flash.
5. Once it is finished rebooting, wait 15 minutes before doing ANYTHING!
6. NOW REBOOT AGAIN!!!
- Works to come from any Rom. Wipe, wipe, wipe first.
- YES IS SAFE TO COME RIGHT FROM RC2!!!!!!
Install Instructions v3.5 Revolution
1. You must first be running a Gingerbread rom (Doesn't matter Lindroid, Rainbows, your cousins top secret GB rom.) If you are not then please follow instructions above to flash 3.3 first and then proceed below.
2. Place Simply_Honey_3.5_Revo.zip on your SD card
3. Use rom manager. Click Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery and select I9000
4. Flash rom in Rom Manager.
I HAVE TESTED THIS NUMEROUS TIMES AND I KNOW WHAT WORKS AND WHAT DOES NOT. IF YOU SKIP A STEP YOU WILL DEFINITELY RUN INTO PROBLEMS SUCH AS BOOT LOOPS OR APPS NOT INSTALLING

This is great info!!!
However, the problem that I'm (we're) having is that we're stuck in stock recovery and getting this error:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
copy default media content failed.
I can't boot into the OS. Is there a way to get the clockwork recovery flashed without access to Rom Manager?
I've odin'd a few times and I'm still getting the same error.
:-(
Thanks SO much for your help!!!

Flash supercurios stock voodoo kernel via Odin that should take care of the devblock message and you be able to flash what you want.

GENIUS!!!!!
I will try it!!!
You guys rock. Thanks for the help!

Ok.
Flashed the stock+voodoo.
I have clockwork now, but I still can't boot past recovery.
I'm trying to perform a full data/reset, but I am still getting the following errors.
e:Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(file exists)
Error mounting /datadata/!
Skipping format
Should I try to repartition the SD card through clockwork?
What are the standard partition sizes?
Thanks.
EDIT: I have flashed a ROM, and while it flashes fine, I am still booting to recovery every time. Getting this error even after flashing a ROM successfully.
DOUBLE EDIT: Finally got a 100% successful Odin flash. Re-partition and to stock JFD. Looks like I might be back in business. Thanks everyone!!!

pretty sure you need to odin JFD , which is original stock rom. JI6 won't work and the only way I could ever odin JI6 was to do it without a pit file...but yea, you need to odin JFD..

Thanks! I probably crashed with Odin 50-60 times before I got a solid flash.
Ridiculously nerve-racking.

Ok so this morning I decided to try out Bionix Fusion 1.0 stock kernel no lag fix...I know this is not the problem, but something happened. After installing Fusion, my phone just hung on a blank screen after the galaxy S logo.
I tried to Odin back to stock, after this my phone boots directly into recovery and if I try to flash my previous ROM (Master 1.1.3 stock kernel) I get an error.

flash eugenes froyo that does not brick through odin
after that its going to boot straight into recovery..
just shut off phone and go back into download mode
then flash JAC's stock nandroid through odin

[Q] How to get to my nandroid backup??

first of all I'm really stupid when it comes to flashing this roms.... and even though i know that i flashed a rom i think the name of the rom was r3, which was suppose to be the software for the FFC of the vibrant. i fu.. up really bad and now my phone is stuck in the GALAXY S gt 19000.... knowing tht i might not be able to install the flash correctly i did a nandroid backup... but when i go into system recovery(pressing the up and down button and the power) i only get 4 options the reboot system, reinstall packages, delete all user data, and delete cache data.... but i dont know how to get into the nandroid recovery....
What your doing is entering stock recovery. You need to enter clockwork recovery (nandroid is a feature of clock work). You can enter clockwork recovery through stock by selecting "reinstall packages." This should bring you into another recovery with more options. Select nandroid/back up and restore. I believe the option is not named nandroid in the new update in clockwork recovery in order to avoid confusion....

ahhh and my volume button are al messed up the up button is down now and the down button is up now... did i just broke my phone???
It looks like you installed Eugenes newest froyo which wipes everything on your internal memory so that means your CW update zip file and your nandroid backup was deleted as well.
Same happen to me So I just started all over again flashing back to stock with odin and going with Bionix fusion, it also have FFC support as well.
P.S.your phone is not broken, you just need to decide where you want to go from here,
im trying to do that my problem is that i have a mac and i cant really find a video or a guide that shows me how to flash odin using a mac..... do u happen to know how to???
wow, dont know how to do that.
Do you have adb set up? If so you can use android commander to transfer the CW udate zip to your internal sd card. I can upload to for you if you need. Once you have that you can The 2.1 Vibrant kernel then flash any rom of your choice.
Or find a freind that had a pc and use odin from there.
Did you give the phone enough time to boot up? Give it at least 10min.
yes i downloaded the adb. i have my phone in download mode. i dont know where to get the android command...
sorry dude, just read its for windows only. Hmm!

I get the same message after backing up the ROM in CW. I do however see a recovery-update.zip file inside Clockworkmod folder on SDCard.
How come the update.zip file is not placed on the root after the ROM backup is complete? What am I doing wrong?
UPDATE:
I renamed the file to update.zip and placed it on the root. Tested and worked!

[Q] Bricked, please help

Earlier today I flashed cyanogenmod 7.1 onto my phone. It was ok, but I didn't like some of the styling, so I decided to change back. rom manager wouldn't let me download clockwork mod recovery, so i tried odin, and now it won't get past the android system recovery. can anyone help? Here is the error message:
E: Can't mount /dev/block.stl10

I have gotten that dbdata error message before, it was written in red.
I don't remember how I fixed it since it was long ago, way before CM, but the thread is around the forums somewhere.
Anyway, don't worry, you will be ok.
did you use the correct pit and tar? repartition? maybe the issue is you are going from cm file system to jfd.
look into eugenes froyo that doesn't brick.
Odin, go get the AIO Tools or something and do the flash to stock option from Download mode and check the repartition as well.

I used s1_odin_20100512.pit and T959UVJI6.tar as my tar file. I have tried checking re-partition but it doesn't change anything. Could you explain what the thing about the cm file system to jfd is?

JFD is the Original 2.1 rom that the phone came with (the J refers to year j=2010) the F refers to the month (June) this was the release of this software build
JI6 (ji6) is the later updated version of the 2.1 rom JI6== 2010/ Sept
When you Odin back to stock it is preferable to use JFD instead of JI6. Make sure to ck repartition, Download Rom Manager >then root >then flash new rom
JFD (for me) never gives any problems, I have had a couple of fails with the JI6 so since you are flashing back to 2.1 just to clear out the old software It is just better to use JFD the original stock rom.
Really doesn't explain everything I think you want, but this is what is important.
This has happened to me several times. Odin using Eugene's "Froyo that doesn't brick" (just search for it) check repartition when odining. This will repartition everything back to normal. You can do whatever after that. Flash Cwm and a new rom.

they use different file systems and when you try to odin back you run into problems, I think your answer is eugenes froyo that doesn't brick, flash that, then you should be back to good.

[Q] No OS after flashing clockwork from odin

I am very new to rooting and flashing and just finished rooting my phone and flashing clockwork on my phone through odin. Now I don't have an operating system on the phone and if I try to click and drag the ROM onto my SD card it says not enough room. Can I just load my ROM into odin under PDA and click go? or how do I go about getting an OS back on the phone? Do I need to do anything with the PIT in odin? Thanks
Also when I click apply sdcard:update.zip I get a message saying E:can't mount /dev/block/vold179:9

E:can't mount SDCARD:udate.zip

You must 3 finger boot into recovery immediately after pushing recovery with odin, and when you are in recovery for the first time you must flash a non stock kernel then and there so that recovery doesn't get overwritten back to stock when you boot up.
Also you should be selecting install zip from sd, and then navigating to said rom and selecting install do not use update.zip.
finally what recovery are you trying to use to flash vgb? I would use otb 3x.x.x, times infinity's 3.x.x.x, or 3-30fix all, those seem to be the best recovery for flashing...just my.02
Edit if you still can't get anything to load you may need to odin back to stock first to get everything straightened back out....if you can't get your phone to boot anything I'd odin eb01 in pda and atlas 2.2pit with repartition checked (you do these both at the same time)....it may be over kill but will get your phone back to stock, and from there you shouldn't have any problems with dev blocks or install problems as long as you follow my suggestions above.

[Q] Custom rom Not getting Falshed

I am XXKI8, and I tried to flash some of the custom roms my phone is getting stuck on Boot logo. And when I go in recovery it says E:\ cant mount system/cache and some other things.
I cant restore backup too...I have to odin it back. this happened with Batista, Touch X power and on Wanamlite.
But when I flashed rarity it worked fine. any Idea why this error is coming up.

Try to do a factory reset before flashing a Custom ROM.
And maybe you need to do a hard reset (*2767*3855#) after flashing?!
As this will wipe your internal SD card, be sure to backup everything you need before.
Good luck !
I am always doing Factory reset, Wipe Partition and after flash Wipe dalvik. But this is happening. Also, if my fon is not booting up so how I can Hard reset with those code after flashing.
I was on vibrant and I am very much familiar with this flashing things. Just its not happening this time.
This problem is not going away. Today I tried to flash Villain rom. But still I cant boot back. I noticed when flashing, my progress bar runs for 1/4th and after that it says installation complete. and when I reboot it cant boot beyond boot logo. And when I go back in recovery it says cant mount E:\system\cache and etc.
Please help. I have odin back to stock and re-rooted so many times that my custom binary count is 9.
I never faced this problem with VIBRANT.

I had similar issue with as you, i'll post my fix ( or atleast how i think i fixed it) ====>
Phew! NOW I HAVE CM7 RUNNING ON MY PHONE!!
I'm gonna try to explain how i fixed my issue, as clear and explanatory as i can..
lucky i didn't brick my phone during all this, because I tried so many things and none worked.I unsuccessfully tried downgrading to XWkI4, ZCKI4, and alot others via Odin... after flashing all i get is tons of error messages(on 3e recorvery) E: can't open/cache or E:failed blah bla bla to load /efs... i thought OMG! my phone is bricked! then i recalled reading somewhere that flashing the 3 tar (PDA,MODEM,CSC) files usually should work(maybe better than flashing a 1 tar file), so i found a 3 files xxKI3 rom, flashed it and BAM! it booted up this time without any error. so now i went ahead and rooted it since the tar files came unrooted, then went into CWM to flash cm7 ROM, flashed it twice and ofc i got stuck on boot logo.....i didn't panic much, i pulled out the battery, and restarted to CWM where i cleared cache/ dalvik/ and did wipe/factory reset, then i reflashed CM7 again (twice) and it worked!!!! YES, CM7 is fiannly working on my SG2!

Yes. I said before also, odined back to stock is no problem at all. I flashed KI3 (which has all three files) + KI8 which is a single file, with no issue.
Whenever I am trying to flash a custom rom I am getting stucked on boot screen. Than I have to ODIN back to STOCK.
Hope this clears your doubts.
Just to make sure. What recovery version do you have? CWM from e.g CF-Root. Or Clockwork mod from Rom Manager.
Be aware of the difference.

Also, I noticed when I boot into CWM Recovery and go to Wipe Dalvik Cache I get a mesage E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] (this is before performing actual wipe) but when I wipe dalvik catch it says Dalvik Catch wiped.
One more thing I like to share - first I flashed STOCK KI3 then I noticed it says cant find E:/System/(some folder for CSC which I dont remember exactly) and it says could not install the CSC. Than I upgraded to KI8 same error for CSC came.
now again I tried to flash siyah kernel 2.0 through CWM, still same problem I am stuck on boot logo.
When I go back to recovery it takes a lot more time than usual and following errors I get
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/command
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E: cant open /cache/recovery/log
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: cant open/cache/recovery/last_log
and when I tried to wipe data/factory reset it says
E: cant mount /sdcard/
Even I tried mounting SD card in recovery but its says error mounting sd card.
Please please help.....I never faced this problem with my VIBRANT.
try xxki3 again, but this time make sure you use a 3 tar method i.e PDA, MODEM, CSC... dont use a 1 tar pacjage or you will get stuck at boot agian.
Well of course you never had the problem with your vibrant, you weren't flashing the same packages.
Try flashing Litening or some other complete firmware that has an Odin flashable package, then use that as a base.
Hopefully you haven't selected the "repartition" option in Odin at any stage and mucked up the tables.
