If I get the $10 unlimited media net plan on my SG2, all I have to say is that I'm now using a dumb phone (like a RAZR) and that's it?
Will they not catch on eventually like they did with my iPhone? Or if they can't catch on yet, if the SGS2 gets released in the U.S, will AT&T then have the phone in the database, and be able to switch plans?
I'm worried about losing my $30 unlimited smart phone plan right now. Thanks
I have a Galaxy S I9000M and I've been fine for 8 months.
I would assume the same with Galaxy S II but I don't know for sure. Hopefully you can find someone to verify.
A little research would have gave you your answer but here you go.
Att will never see the unlocked(uk) version of the sgs2 or anyother unlocked(overseas) in there database. Ive been running tmobile and overseas phones for 4 years now. Never had an issue and never will. 99.99% people dont even know what this phone is. You will never see change to your att account with any unlocked phone.
Iphone, some nexus 1s and very small % of dell streaks would give you problems with data. Hit the thanks if it helped you out.

No one can get you a definite answer since no one knows what AT&T will do next for sure. But I've been using non-AT&T phone on their media net plan for yrs without issue. If they add GS II to their database, then I will just sell it and move to the next phone.
With the X10a from Rogers, people were fine on AT&T for months. But then AT&T got their own X10 and bumped everyone to the pricey plans.

Yep, It can become a crap shoot when AT&T picks up a device. I made it years before they finally nabbed my on the N1, back to medianet now. While they have been claiming for years that they are going to crack down on unlocked phones they have have put very little effort into it and even then only with phones that they themselves picked up and the N1.
For the risk adverse note that they can add any device to their database as the numbers are in the public domain for all devices. This means they can sweep the network for any device. Not saying that they would, only that they could should they choose.
Realistically they have showed almost zero effort to find and adjust billing on unlocked phones and there is little to lose by switching to medianet since if you do end up getting caught all that happens is they automatically move you to smartphone. The only thing that would give me pause was having a grandfathered uncapped smartphone. Go to medianet and that is gone forever and even if it doesnt matter now it could loom large later. I do not believe I would risk losing that myself, not for this handset but because I might really wish I had it later.
I agree. On four of my lines I have non ATT phones with medianet but I have one with unlimited grandfathered and I want to keep it that way (I'm really hoping it carries over to LTE)

I was wondering if you or anyone else has gone over 3gb of data a month on the media net plan? I talked to a buddy that manages 2 different at&t stores and he told me they definitely know I am using a gs2 when I put the sim card in and if I use over 3gb of data they'll say something but they won't say anything if you stay under 3gb. Does this correlate with your experience?

Hello Atrix Owners,
I am thinking about getting an Atrix 4G tomorrow and I am currently using a Samsung Captivate. My question is for anyone who had an unlimited data plan and got the Atrix. Did AT&T make you switch from the unlimited plan when you got the phone?
Also, anyone who had a captivate and went to the atrix... would you say it was worth it?
I've owned a captivate. More that we have an unlocked bootloader, the only thing a captivate has on the atrix is a samoled screen.
I never looked back once I got this device. The hktw firmware feels so fast compared to the cappy's laggy touch wiz. Plus we can actually get a GPS lock.

I wish I could do that... Too bad I am an existing user w/ unlimited data so... There is no way I would start over, but still at $100 + upgrade fee... it isn't bad.
no i had a captivate too and switched to atrix along with my brother. we both kept our plans and switch youll be really happy you did. the captivate was super buggy.
Make sure to tell them to retain your unlimited plan. My AT&T store here automatically dropped me to the 2GB plan. I checked when I got home online, saw this, then went through a long call before they could get a manager on the phone who could authorize putting me back on unlimited..............AFTER the rep told me it was not possible.

I've had to go along with my family and friends whenever they need to upgrade. I can't tell you how many times I've seen AT&T associates try and drop friends and family to the 2GB without warning them.
When I went to get my Atrix they tried to tell me I couldn't switch my iPhone data over.
Go into the store and just makes sure you tell them you want to stay on the unlimited plan. After they get you all setup check your account right there in the store to make sure. You can keep your unlimited plan but sometimes they will try to switch you.

joust to back up what many have said, I went from an iPhone unlimited to an unlimited 4g data plan when I got my Atrix, so they can do it in store, do not let them talk you into anything else. if they say they can't go to another store or something.
p.s. you wil be glad you did, I can hardy wait to see what this puppy can do now that it can be unlocked.
So ifu buy a 2g off ebay will it let me choose an unlimited plan and transfer it over to my atrix even though I've already upgraded to my atrix?

ive searched all throughout--- and im finding conflicting results--
1.can i use a tmo branded vibrant on 9.99 tzones?
2. if not.. if i unlock it will it work?
last thing-- what r the all the apns i can try-- the epc one worked for a couple of hours on stock-- then i rooted and rommed it and it stopped working..
thanks again.
Since you are using a Vibrant (T-mobile), they (T-mobile) have the IMEI of your phone, which will register as a smartphone in their network. It will work for a couple of hours but eventually (usually less than a day) you will be blocked because the grandfathered t-zones plan were not meant for smartphones. Now if you use a captivate (AT&T), T-mobile does not have that models IMEI so you might get by with that (but only at 2g speeds).
So unlocking it wont make a difference?
I did that for years on a Palm Treo (at $2.99!) but upgraded to the "smartphone" package when I got my vibrant. TOTALLY WORTH IT. Sneaking data through T-zones was slow as molasses. If you can do it, pay for the data. A phone like this is meant to have a full data plan.
And I think T-Mobile can tell whatever phone you are using. They always knew I was on a Palm. Not the specific model, but a Treo. I was talking to a sales guy one time and he told me they know when people are using jailbroken iPhones. He said they always lied about it too. In that particular store they didn't care because you were paying T-Mobile instead of AT&T. But they could tell.
ok its settled it-- it cant b done--
------------
now what would yall suggest i do?
sell it -- use the money toward an upgrade (thinkin sensation)
0r trade it-- for a nexus one? -- keep usin it wit tzones?
..............

Dude even if you get a nexus one eventually they're gonna swtich your data. Just buy the data plan and use it as is. Getting around it wont get you far.

Get a Windows phone 7.5. They work great on the T-zones plan.
I don't like AT&T and I'm with T-Mobile. AT&T plans give you very little for what they charge and their stupid roll-over minutes mean diddle squat to me. I've been with them at least twice in the past 10 years.
I was planning on getting the international version and possible going with RedPocket since I heard they use AT&T towers anyway. I would get 3g without the ball and chain.
On launch day I went to go see the Note with my husband. When I got to the mall, Samsung was having an event for the Note and I kind of got sucked in with the hype because I've been drooling over it for months. I went to the AT&T store and the manager shockingly honored an online price for the Note so I decided to get one. Ok, I got 2 since the deal was good and I needed a second line for my husband. He loyally feeds my phone addiction and goes with what ever plan/network I want. The other one is sitting in the box and is nicknamed "termination fee coverage" since he could care less about the awesome sexy beast, A.K.A. my new boyfriend who is 5.3".
When I got home I unlocked it and I have been switching back and forth between the networks. I used my AT&T Dell streak on T-Mobile before and was fine with the crappy speed for a while because most of the time I had Wi-fi. After the Streak I had the Galaxy S2 and got hooked on the speed.
I don't have long to decided because AT&T will charge to migrate my phone over after a certain period. I also currently have 2 sets of numbers with each carrier and don't want a double bill.
My debate is this, is it worth giving up a decent plan, so I can always have the full potential speed of my Note? I do plan on rooting it soon to get rid of the crap and open the potential. I will be paying about the same for less minutes on our family plan.
Devs are working on getting 3G to possibly work for Tmo. It can use the 1700 band that tmo uses for 3G. I would say give it some time. I use Simple Mobile which uses Tmo and I'm waiting to see if they get it to work.

I think it's a question of what will irk you more- a less than stellar plan or a slower phone. If your dislike for AT&T trumps your need for speed then lose them. If you think you'll frequently be in a non wifi situation and regret not having the full speed, stick with AT&T.
Read the AT&T contract carefully. If memory serves if you cancel with in the first month and keep the phone you are charged the difference in price paid vs. full price of the phone per/device not the early disconnect fee. I may be wrong about this but when I was reading it on Thurs. Im pretty sure I saw something to that effect
Thanks all...
Yikes! I never read my phone contracts. Funny how I spend so much time reading and researching my gadgets but mindlessly sign my life away.

I have Red pocket and love it...plus they roll over your unused data which is sweet.
am wondering what should i do too.....came from tmobile....for $98 bucks i had unlimitted calls, text, web, insurance, and international calls and text....with att i pay the same and only 450 mins, and no international
what is this red pocket service,,,,,does it have lte? is the internetet 4G.....
i dont know if i should go back to tmobile.....
whats the cheapest or best plan to have for the note, with unlimitted calls and 4g?
the go phone options seems better and cheaper than being on contract, it does not make sense to me...
can i switch to a prepay plan? and how much would i have to pay to change? i became a new att member....and pay 300 for the note....if i cancel do i just pay the 325 ETF? and take my note somewhere else?
I'm thinking about buying this and using it with att but had a question...
1) this is the international version right?
2) is the imei on atts data base?
3) has anyone ever used the unlimited dumbphone (media.net) by att on this?
I ask this because from.what I understand international phones imei are not stored on atts data base so you can tell them its not a smartphone and get the hspa unlimited data on it for $10...either way ill end up getting it but it would be nice to know if I can put the dumphone data on it...
I read somewhere that you can do it wig the black one but not the white cause the white pops up as a blackberry or something...can some one clarify?
So in short can I get the att dumbphone data plan on this?

1. The i9100 is the international version.
2. No it is not.
3. Seems like some people has. There is a thread here regarding some people who had success with it. I do believe they had to go through certain steps in order to get it.
Word of caution, just because it may work today does not guarantee that it will work tomorrow.
This has been the case (off the top if my head) for some of the Nexus N1 models and all of the Sony X10. Search around and you'll see that the Nexus N1 was pretty much an issue from the get go. The Sony X10 was going strong for a while and then Sony turned over their IMEIs and EVERYONE got thrown into the smartphone plan.
Just keep in mind that if Samsung ever pulls a Sony, that you are prepared for the extra cost because AT&T WILL DOUBLE DIP on you by not losing money on a subsidy smartphone PLUS the smartphone plan cost like they have already done to people in the past...

I have an ATT LG G2 w/ Straight Talk (I worked for years in the cellular industry so I figured I could avoid their CS issues 95% of the time). Working great, and no issues, but always looking at options. Had the Verizon unlimited plan, and realized I use data so little lately (most is on WiFi and only transit times are really on true data) that it made no sense to pay a ridiculous sum for what I used my phone for.
Have a T-MO SIM at home, they were like 1 buck shipped so I picked up a Micro and Nano just in case for a fast swap, so I may try their 70/7GB plan out and play a little more data heavy (my work re-reimburses 70 so anything up to there is a wash for me).
Ahhhh the joys of number porting, and GSM phones. Play w/ everything until you find the sweet spot.

This part confused me. You don't use much data but are going for a 7gb plan?
At any rate, how is Straight-Talk? I believe they recently started offering ATT network. I have used the tmo prepaid plan and that worked nicely.
Thanks
I don't use it normally, but that's just by habit. I may try being a little bit less data conscious w/ it if I try since my out of pocket isn't different between the two plans. I used to be a lot more data heavy, but with WiFi going everywhere I make it a point to drop onto trusted networks because it's easier on my battery (in addition to the obvious data savings). I was using under 2GB max monthly with my VZN Unlimited plan so it made no sense to pay over 2x what I am now with ST for it and I changed.
It's solid. I went to it only because they switched on ATT LTE and have no problems. Their CS I've heard nightmares about, but I haven't had an issue. Their site freaked out and error'd during my PORT REQUEST and it billed my card 2x, and didn't port. I hit up their online person and they gave me a case and # to call. Called and within 30mins they had my port in process, 1 charge applied to it, and the other crediting back. So that particular instance was fine.
My only gripe is if you're an LTE speed purist as they appear to use a proxy that varies. I did a WHAT IS MY IP a minute ago and it was a service in FL (I'm in AZ) and another time I think it showed somewhere in CA. So they're using a proxy service which is going to cut your speeds depending on the hops back / forth / destination. Overall, though, for 45 bucks a month I have no complaints.
"It's solid. I went to it only because they switched on ATT LTE and have no problems."
This is what interested me, precisely. I am not worried about speed. Honestly, if I get more than 4 or 5 mbit, I am prefectly happy, since I don't do much on the phone that really requires high speeds...like torrenting
with TMO 4g, I was getting up to 12mbit. With att lte and my particular home location, I am lucky to see 12mbit (although in areas near me I have seen 52mbit). But, TMO has a few dead spots in my area that att doesn't. At some point I will probably eat the ETF and go to a prepaid.
Thanks for the info.

NP. I simply activated, threw on CleanROM, tossed in the new APN settings and I was good to go. LTE and MMS worked right away. You do need the new SIM card I'm hearing so it flags LTE ability in the system, but I was a new customer anyhow so that's what they sent (and had free shipping when I ordered it).
That's really all that matters... your personal experience. I dig Prepaid because I bought all my phones anyways (I really hate contracts because I'm technology finicky) so it seemed like a better option to change to a GSM carrier since I was being sent a phone for our game anyways and I just had to choose the phone / carrier. Now I can service bounce if I want, and not pay ridiculous VZN prices. Switching my wife to her own VZN plan (we've had it so long they had a single line 60 dollar plan for unlimited/unlimited/2GB) and giving her my iPhone 5 and then changing to ST we save like 50 a month. Even if I bump my plan we still save (not counting my work paying for 70 anyways). It was a no brainer.
Haven't had an Android phone for an extended period since the OG Droid on Verizon and I'm loving the LG G2 and where Android is now.

Yeah, I kept my previously used tmo sim just for unlocking. It expired and I would have to get a new one. As to buying on contract, doing the math, I can wait a couple months, cancel the contract, pay the etf and should be cheaper than buying it outright for almost $700. I have to be as cheap as possible these days
