I noticed there are dust in the front of my phone, you know, where the screen joins the sides bezel. While I may be anal, but I worry about dust getting in under the screen as have happened on my previous mobile phones.
Is that likely to happen to the SGS2? ie dust under screen.
Is there an skin that will go over the joining cracks to stop more dust getting inthere?
Yes there is dust between screen and the surrounding plastic, because of the small gap. But no dust under my screen yet.
I think Samsung took care of it.
you will hardly be able to get any dust under the screen since glass and the screen are one. so its kinda impossible
Agreed with the above comment. The Digitizer (Touchscreen) and the Display is joint together and it is not possible to separate them, hence there is no chance of dust getting accumulated between the Display and the Touchscreen.
Same with the Galaxy S
well, it seems that its not so impossible afterall...
I just can't believe me eyes just woke up this morning and reached for my phone, after a small wipe of the screen i saw one little spot that wasn't coming off... after a closer look i realized that the little spot of dust is sitting comfortably under my screen
this is a real bummer for me, never had a similar issue on my previous phone, does anyone know a real solution for this issue?
will try to take a picture and post it later
no dust for me

Did you manage to remove the dust or did it get stuck like that?

hello to all,
I had a small incident during some home repair work where I didn't realize that I had adhesive on the fingers when I answered the tel. After that I found traces of adhesive on the screen as one can see on the photo. I did not remember if I had placed a screen protector on my toshiba at the beginning or not. Then To check it I tried to remove it with the nail to take off an edge, and an end is actually detached, except that it does not look like a screen protector, but a kind of plastic layer semi-rigid which has the thickness of a protective film! It looks like a protective hard coat which comes with the phone but is not supposed to be removed.
I am afraid now to pull it off and damage my screen even more. Then I would like to know if somebody already experienced this problem and could remove this protective layer.
If so please share your experience. I may not be the only one with this issue.
Thanks a lot and sorry for my poor English.
That looks indeed like part of the case that protects the touch screen. I will try ebay and look for a replacement case.
its avible on ebay for 17 euros only
i think that surface is not a protective layer.. i think it's part of the touchscreen.
I removed mine today. Touch screen still works
The coating makes the screen less prone to scratches, and makes slight scratches less apparent. After removing the coating, I noticed the lots of tiny scratches I made on the screen, but they're gone after I stick a new screen protector on it.
I'm glad I removed it because there's a scratch on mine.

Can you report exactly how did you make it? Are you sure that it was not a previous protective screen? I've just bought a second TG01 with a scratched screen but I don't dare to do what you did

It is not a previous protective screen. It is factory applied, there's a lot of glue residue on the screen after I remove it. Took me a lot of time to remove the glue by "pushing" the glue to a side with my fingers, then cleaning it off with WD40.
I bought my second hand TG01 in June and have been using it every day ever since. A few days ago, presumably due to cold weather, I noticed this hard coat is starting to wear off, there's a mark on the screen like a badly applied screen protector, so I started to remove it.
The glue that stuck the hard coat onto the screen was very strong, so be patient and take extra care when removing the coat. Do it slowly so only the hard coat is removed but not the soft touch screen layer below it.
DO stick a new screen protector on the screen after removing the hard coat as the unprotected screen is more prone to scratches without the hard coat.
After two days of use, do NOT remove the hard coat. I think I damaged the touch screen in the progress, it's now very hard to tap on the intended position correctly.
Now going to buy a new touch screen

Thank you for your WARNING.
I wonder if you could film the process of changing the touch! If you have success (as expected) this video would be very useful for other people interested (as me)
Crossed fingers!
It's not a video and it might take google translator to understand it, but, thanx to a guy called chdeul, there are very interesting explanations and pictures on the french forum:

This is VERY interesting and well done description in the link you provided! I almost opened my phone but due to lack of appropriate courage and tools and understanding, I stopped for now, but will soon re-try!
I've had my Galaxy S2 for 1 day...such an awesome device, light years ahead of my Nokia 5800.
Anyway, my only gripe so far is...I noticed that dust was gathering rather quickly around the screen edges, and getting into the tiny cracks around it. Should I worry about this getting under the screen or inside the device or anything? Or am I just worrying too much?
EDIT: Mods...delete please, meant to post in the normal non-AT&T regular S2 forums.
Feel free to give your feedback about the topic in here:

I've had mine about a week and noticed the same thing while putting on my screen guard.
If you can find a chick with the same tongue as a cat, it will get the dust out... If not then use a can of compressed air.
I'd suggest returning it if it has dust in-between the LCD and touchscreen.
This phone, as well as the iPhone 4+4s have the digitizer and LCD glued together. There is nothing supposed to be getting between them.
I'd return it.
theres a slight gap between the glass and brezel. dust collecting here is normal. But i run a atnt ballistic case and it hugs and covers the edges.

i believe hes talking about the edge of the glass, between the glass and chrome ring. i have some too, but it usually blows out fairly easy
Just put a plastic tub on top of my phone by accident, was nothing in it so there was no weight in it. Then I looked at my phone and now there are really fine scratches, you cant feel them with your finger nails and has to be good lighting but they are there. I've seen people try to scratch this glass with keys and knifes, yet laying a plastic box on it has caused minor scratches.
I have to believe there is some sort of coating on the glass, probably oleophobic, that is showing these scratches. The only thing that can scratch glass is something harder than glass on the Mohs scale. And plastic certainly isn't one of them. That being said, it still sucks and makes the phone look bad. I wonder if the coating can be removed...
Apparently you can re-coat it but probably a specialist job and doubt you'll find many company's doing it for at least a few years.
To me it is just ridiculous to go through all that research and development to create a scratch proof glass then coat it with a substance that is easily scratched. It kind of defeats the purposes doesn't it?
You can buff scratches out.
how and what with ?
I'm getting more and more concerned about this "new and improved" GG2. I have had incredibles with no case and throw it around left and right with no screen cracks and barely scuffs.
I wouldn't try buffing them out if I were you. I read that one xda member tried this on his phone and stuffed it up completely.
Ok I've decided the Samsung galaxy S3 glass is useless. My dad works in a double glazing factory which is dusty and full things that could scratch his HTC sensation screen, yet his phone is scratch free. Mine I never put it anywhere other then my pocket except for the one miss hap. Yet my phone has acquired more screen scratches. It's so irritation, they are not deep they are only noticeable in full sunlight when the screen is clear from finger prints.
A sells guy at a samsung showroom was bragging about how strong the screen is by hitting it with his keys... I took the phone, angled it towards the light and I could clearly see deep scratches.
Glass being scratched only by harder elements is only a myth. Even dust can scratch it, just have a closer look at your car's windshield, it's probably full of scratches yet you never rub it with a diamond.
You must have sand or other fine particles in your pocket. Keys and such shouldn't be your biggest worry, most glass resists scratches from these. Sand and other fine particles is where you are screwed.
Hello everyone.
I was cleaning my Galaxy S3 this morning and figured out a stain on the screen.
At first I thought it was some grease, so I used a cloth with soap to take it out Surprisingly the stain persisted!
Looking more carefully at it, I found out the stain fits exactly the spot I must touch with my left thumb.
Actualy it's not a stain. Somewhat the screen wore! Like the most used keys of an old keyboard.
The stain is only visible when the phone is covered with water. The faded portion of the screen takes more time to dry the water.
Is anybody experiencing this too?
I never imagined a flagship device like this could use so bad materials on it. It's only 8 months old and I'm not a hard user.
Most of my friends have Apple devices and they look like new even after years of usage.
Maybe I got a defectful screen glass?
Never experienced anything like this. Maybe you have diamond coated fingers. Maybe the oleophobic coating wore off?! If it has a coating.

It isn't bad materials as you say, what industry are in in or have you had something acidic on your fingers?. Have you had a screen protector on that has left residue??
Is covering your screen with water a good thing to do??

I don't work in a factory; I work in the office. I can't recall using or droping something acidic on the phone. Even because I'm not in contact with such things. I never used a screen protector or a case.
I mean the water left by the humid cloth. Nothing special.
I know its an old post but i suggest you to buy a screen protector to extend the life of the screen
Some people's sweat can be quite detrimental, use screen protector or don't moan
My Poco fell out of my hand and luckily I had high quality tempered glass. Display was alright but tempered glass shattered So I removed it after examining the screen I noticed this single White Dot.
It's nothing, barely visible, but every time I see it I feel terrible. Is the screen broken or is it something else? Has anyone faced this problem? Please help.
That's a pressure point or dirt spot. I have a feeling something got displaced when you dropped it and is now adding pressure to the screen from behind. LCDs are very sensitive. Can also happen due to long term bending while in pant pockets.
Same can be seen on laptop screens as well. For example check the image attached of my laptop. Has been there due to pressure from bezel after a hinge break.
You can just go ahead and ignore it, imo.

Thank you for helping me out; I really appreciate your support. I was about to open this device to fix this but I guess I'll just have to ignore it.
