[Q] Issue with Gapps - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was recently rooted and now am running Das BAMF 2.0 and I am having issues with Gapps. It keeps force closing and will not allow me to add any more accounts. Do you know of any work arounds?
I searched and didn't see anything but as a n00b I may have missed it.
Thanks!

You shouldn't be installing gapps. That is for CM7.

I didn't. Here is the full error I get:
"The application Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
I was probably mistaken about the Gapps part. Just saw that in the error and figured that was the problem. I did not install anything that did not come with the ROM.
Sorry for the confusion.
Edit: As a side note, the calendar app is not pulling my info, probably for this same reason.

Try going into Rom Manager and choose Fix Permissions. Let that run, reboot, hopefully that may fix the problem.

Dang I was hoping that would work but no go. Thanks!

Is just gmail or is it talk as well? Might be able to reinstall the app?

I will try that out. It seems to be the calendar and Gmail.

I had a few issues on some apps. After uninstalling them and then reinstalling them the issues went away.

Open titanium backup and see if there is any application related to market frozen? If you find frozen app, just defrost it. Also clear the market cache.

I had the problem for a long time. Got the new market and it would actually give me an error message, about insufficient storage.
Info in settings clearly said I had enough, but still constant fails.
Eventually installed link2sd, used it on some apps problem solved.

Turns out my Market App Installer was frozen somehow...defrosted it and it didn't help. Any other ideas?

try this --> wipe data of Market using Titanium backup. You will need to login again in market.
Check if your Google talk is working or not. I came across the same problem and I was advised to log out of gtalk and log in again. That didn't help me. I just flashed the rom over the existing rom. You can also flash gapps if you are on custom rom

Best way is flash Gapps again. It will resolve this issue permanently.

I'm not sure if its my phone specifically or the fact the Vibrant doesn't run ICS natively, but Chrome force closes on every attempt to open it. I've cleared app data, wiped davlik, rebooted and still no avail.
Anyone else have these problems? Any known cause why this is force closing?

Passion V12 as well. Only thing that comes to mind with why it isn't working is that I have Google 2-Step verification enabled and there may be bugs with that. Going to turn 2-Step off to help rule that out.

i had issues with 2-step verification as well on this device and my nook. i turned it off. its more trouble than its worth. i'm not stashing nuclear launch codes or my bank account number in my email anyway. plus i keep my passwords pretty convoluted anyway
I flashed over to ICSSGS ROM last night so can't give a clear answer if 2-Step verification was causing the crashes or not on Passion. FWIW, Chrome Beta works fine on this ROM with 2-Step enabled.

It's definitely annoying not to have flash on such an anticipated Google release, but most developers I talk to seem to agree that we should all just let Flash die off.

Thats what you think. There are a lot of webs with Flash. They do not want to spend money and time to implement HTML5.

[Q] market issue only with newer updates of ultimatum

I am running the new rc1 download for ultimatum ics. I can download, install any apps but I cannot purchase any. Gives me the unable try again later error. I had no issues with beta 3 version, the market worked fine but the newer versions all give me the same error. I have wiped cache, cleared dalvik, tried full wipes before installing the new versions of ultimatum. Tried going into app management and clearing the play store data and cache as well as Google frame work and clearing that data (it was a suggestion on Google's help site). I restored to my beta 3 backup and the market worked perfect again, then tried to install rc1 back without a wipe and the error occurred yet again. Any other suggestions?
OK, I think I may have found the issue but still cannot fix it maybe someone else can help. I used the play store online to purchase an app. It still gave me an issue. It said that this account hasn't been used with the play store on your device. I don't understand how when it is the same account my phone is synced with.. seems as if the market isn't recognizing my account on my phone.. any help? Thanks
Try logging out of ur google account(s) and then clear market data. After log back in and i think it should work.

Yeap.
OK went menu-settings-accounts/sync and removed the Gmail account. Cleared market app data tried re-entering market. It asked me to sign in.. I did that and still had the error. I also restored my beta 3 backup again and verified I had the same account. Tried installing beta 4 after that no wipe and couldn't purchase anything after changing to 4. Something seems to be getting cleared or messed up during rom change. Just can't pinpoint it.

Well man I appreciate the help. I tried pushing an old and new version of the market. Didn't make a difference, I've tried every sequence of deleting and installing with no luck. Only thing I've found different is if I flash back to icscrewd (what I had ran before this) it works fine. What I notice though is after it asks me to sign in to my account after the full wipe, when I do so on that rom it tells me the account was successfully linked with ultimatum it doesn't it just proceeds with loading my data.. but apparently no one else has this issue so I'm clueless.. thanks for the attempts though
Just had the issue. Fixed it with installing market not play store. And let it update to playstore by its self and problem solved for me.

Omg thanks so much, I got it figured out! When I pushed the original market apk it would force close so I pushed the play store apk and still had the issue, so I reinstalled the market apk and went into titanium backup and converted the market file into a system file and that got rid of the force close then it updated on its own after a few and all is fixed now. Thanks for your time man!

Wakelock woes

Alright, I've tried several remedies none have yet to fix my problem.
First off, does anyone else have a huge Wakelock with gtalk.async.androidendpoint? I'm finding this info out using better battery stats.
Here's my info :
Hboot 2.27 (global Leak)
S off
Rom newts one xxx 6.0.2 (happens on all roms)
Ok, so to rule out the obvious, I've tried freezing gtalk, then stopping Google locating services.
I've also tried this with and without restoring apps/data after flashing a rom.
When doing so, I always do a full wipe.
I've read up on it, some people said it had to do with the proxy on apn settings, so I made a new apn with the same info, data came in, but didn't fix my Wakelock.
Is this a known problem? I see many posts in other forums about it, but it seems its not happening to everyone.
Any help would be appreciated

There seems to be a few people with this wakelock on the internet and no real consensus on what the cause or fix is.
What I can tell you however is my girlfriend's Nexus 4 had the same wakelock issue and I realised it was because her work's Wifi network's network filter was stopping Google services from successfully syncing and it was just trying again and again and again causing the battery to drain. I told her to stop using that wifi network and the next day I checked and the gtalk.async wakelock was gone.

Hmm that might be it, I am using wifi provided by the college (I live on campus) its super fast, but I know some ports are blocked because Google Now won't work on it.
However, I tried disabling all syncing services and no dice. It's like Google just keeps trying even when it's not supposed to sync

can you freeze google services apk and see if that helps. if gtalk is blocked from making a connection then it could be the wake lock retrying to many times.

So far so good, freezing Google services framework did the trick, at the cost of Gmail and play store. But that's fine I'll just defrost when I need it.

yep, so the service in google framework is calling out to make sure gtalk is connected. when your school block the connection it puts a pause on it and will request again when any type of connection change is detected. i cant remember but have you tried signing out of gtalk when not using it?

it auto signs into your gmail. go to the app and sign out. then freeze it. should stop the framework request
I believe the GTALK_ASYNC process handles a lot more than just GTALK, a lot of Google Services are reliant on it so freezing it will cause a lot of collateral damage to Google apps and other apps that leverage services like C2DM.

it syncs for all gapps. what i was trying to do is see if you can just get that part of the sync portion off.
OP can you try this. navigate to system/apps and rename the gtalk apk to .bak reboot the phone to recovery, wipe dalvik and reboot. let it boot like normal and see if you have the wake lock without having to freeze googles framework.
this should stop the phone from ever knowing gtalk was installed and remove the wake lock problem.

Unfortunately, Browser has stopped

Good day folks. I am running latest jelly bam 6.7 rom which I understand is no longer linked with XDA. However, out of the blue, I am getting error message "Unfortunately, Browser has stopped" each time I try to use the native browser. My Firefox browser works just fine. Is there a workaround to fix the browser. I used the forum search but I couldn't quite find a fix for my issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Reboot to recovery and wipe cache and delvic cache. This will force apps to reimplement. Let us know if that works. Had a similar problem and this worked for me.

I didn't work. The browser still force closed so I was forced to dirty flash and that fixed it but i had to restore everything which was a major pain. Not sure what caused it so I'm concerned it could happen again. Thanks for the reply!
