Thank you Mskip for adding this new sub forum for the HD2, and for taking the time to move and sort out all the Q/A posts from the Themes and apps thread.
It will be OH SO NICE to see a clean themes forum.
Cheers
Wolfee
OMG! I posted this in the themes and apps forum fist by mistake.
erm confused why couldn't these just be moved to the general section seen as its full of crap anyway ?

I agree! Generally I don't fancy the Q&A sub forums. I think that a question should be posted in the same thread as the related subjects, or in a new thread in one of the sub forums that encompasses the subject.
If I have a question regarding a specific ROM, should i post it in Q&A or in the ROM thread?
If I have a question regarding, say a car holder, should the question go in the Q&A or the accessories sub forum?
What distinguishes General from Q&A?
I don't really see a purpose to this subforum as the questions asked pretty much can be categorized under the general subforum...
I was having a look through just now and i figured out what this board is for but it may require it be renamed. The board seems to be filled with questions already asked atleast 10 times (if not 100) before. So we could rename this board the "I can't be bothered to google anything unless it's porn. Please, please hurt and embarrass me" board and then we would have a place for the senior members to vent their frustrations at the people that cause them.
The only rule would be the OP's have no right of reply unless they really can show respect, willingness and gratitude. In fact i think all new members should be locked into only being able to post to this new board and only allowed to make one new post a day. Every attempt to post after that would present them with a search box and the words "Use this Dumbass"
Hmm seems i got a little carried away there but TBH it's a nice idea considering it started out as a joke and i rambled on it a little bit.
First what's the status of honeycomb coming to the flyer? What's your take on how Sense works? How do the native apps flow with regards to performance and productivity? For the price do you feel this is a solid 7 inch tab or an oversized phone that doesn't make calls? Honestly what's your overall take on the product?
Thanks guys and I'm looking forward to your input.
Peace and keep it up.
George

Completely wrong forum. This is for development and posting of ROMs, kernels, and similar tools. Why did you post this here? This should be in the "General" subforum. Are there are already several threads very similar to this, that will answer your questions.

I am a noob. Just got chewed out on another device forum right after I posted this. Sorry. Didn't quite understand the difference in where to put my posts. Won't happen again. Anyone feel free to close this thread.

I don't use the G-tablet as much as I expected, so I'm considering putting it up for sale.
My question is, do you guys think it would be more desirable to a buyer if I left the custom rom (calkulin + clemsys froyo), or should I return it to stock first?
In the past, I've noticed cell phones for sale went for more when they were unmodified versus ones that advertised "rooted + Cyanogenmod!", etc. I guess because some buyers don't like thinking that the previous owner was mucking about in ways that could have bricked it or voided the warranty or something. But with the G-tablet, the stock rom was so limiting I think people might prefer something that gives access to the market and a decent launcher.
I dunno- advice, suggestions?
Most threads I've seen describe the current ROM but also offer to wipe and return to stock before shipping. It depends on the buyer. But I don't think it will affect the value one way or the other.
Just my opinion but you really should flash back to stock. That way you can rest assured any personal information is removed. The new user can do with it whatever they wish.

You can format it as well and load a custom ROM.

Thanks.
In the future, this could be avoided if you guys had a better definition of what Q&A was versus what General is supposed to be for.
If it was a question like, "How do I root my device", that's clearly Q&A. From the name of it, I picture Q&A being more FAQ type discussions. Its a question with only a minor variance in possible answers, with a clear right vs wrong.
If the thread were something like "Does anyone miss the camera on HoneyComb builds?", its more of a discussion- encouraging a conversation on the matter with no clear answer of right or wrong. Wouldn't that be more appropriate under general?
I suppose what I was asking here is more like advice, which I think would more easily fit under "general" than Q&A.
But it begs the question- if the purpose of this moderation is help organize information and make it easier for others to find in the future, is this helping? I wouldn't check the Q&A section for information like this first, because I don't think the average user would assume it would be found there. I would check general.
Just saying- I've moderated forums before, so just trying to be helpful.
Well let's look at it this way.... Is this a Question about the gTablet? It goes in gTablet Q&A. Is this general discussion about the gTablet? It goes in General.

Well, lets look at it this way- the content does not necessarily have to be in the form of a question.
It very well could have been:
"The merits of selling a stock G-tablet versus one with a custom rom" and then shared my thoughts, while encouraging others to discuss. I phrased it in the form of a question because I find that people are more interested in joining a discussion if it isn't just some dude's angry rant.
That being the case, I would like to argue that this belongs in General. And that the definitions need to be a lot less vague to avoid this in the future. I see that you have that sticky post saying you had to move over 200 threads.
Did you wonder perhaps if there was a greater reason so many are "misplaced" to your definition?
Not trying to make a scene or anything, but I think there is room for improvement here.
EDIT: A quick follow up. More than half of the threads in "general" appear to be questions, and not discussion starters like mine, but REAL questions, like help fixing something or how to do something specific. Those, I would say, belong in a section like Q&A. Although I would still argue that the definitions need to be less vague here if you want your job to get any easier anytime soon.
First off you are speaking about something from over 8 months ago. Secondly, you feel so strongly about it being in General? Then edit your post accordingly and it'll be moved.
As a moderator we do this out of our love for XDA and for no monetary gain. We do not, nor can we, read each and every post in each and every thread. Most of the time we action things when they are reported.

I was just scolded by Red5 for posting a new thread. I can't post in the Development forum, as I don't have enough posts yet. I DID search for the answer, and when I couldn't find I did as the message below told me to do. Post the question in the Q&A forum.
I'm not a moron, or a troll, I'm an experienced IT professional with a simple question. New members are going to have more questions than answers when getting started in this forum. Rules that block people from putting comments where they belong, then scolding people for putting them where they're told to (see below) just doesn't make much sense.
Please Read: New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums. The developer forums are intended for experienced users and developers to discuss ways to improve technical aspects related to ROMs and Software. While you may be an expert, we ask ALL users to avoid posting questions about using or installing ROMs and software in the Development Forums. To encourage this new Users can read but not post in these forums.
To ask Questions about developing your device, installing ROMs, software and themes you must go to the Q&A or General Forum.
What question do you have. Also if you read, the development forum is only for development, not asking questions.
You have no idea how many new members go in and ask questions that have been asked millions of times before or in the sticky that has BIG BOLD LETTERS ON THE TOP SAYING READ ME. And also 90% sure this thread will be locked anyways since it has nothing to do with the phones.
Oh to answer your question.
Since its an App, you're not going to find help on the black text because thats just the way the app is coded. Go complain to the developer of the app and not the ROM.
And by recovery console do you mean cwm? If so, have fun.

Sorry, that's a rough intro. I hope you won't be turned off by XDA as a whole. I try to keep things positive and look forward to seeing you around these boards.
EDIT, as to your questions, briefly in case this thread gets closed:
1) No easy way to change font/color behavior in a single app. As a workaround, you can hold finger over a list entry/item and read the text sometimes while it is highlighted. Some apps have theme settings for dark/light themes for exactly this situation.
2) I know modifying recovery is possible (Siyah kernel for instance) but have never seen one with larger fonts. At any rate, it's not a setting that can be changed on the fly.
I think they mean for questions like "how do i flash a rom" , "how do i return to stock" , general non rom specific questions. Any specific rom questions need to go in that dev's thread. As far as needing ten posts, find some threads that interest you in the general or q & a and comment on them.

I'm pretty sure none of us are... But this is the rule for XDA that was set forth... 10 post is not a lot, especially comparing to some of the other sites that I seen out there. As of now you have 7 posts. Only 3 more posts and you should be good to go.
Keep it in mind the moderators/administrators here work hard to keep this forums nice and clean. So, new users can find things easier.
As some of the earlier posts and responses, they should already tell you what you can and cannot do.
As penguinlogik said, I would stay away from CWM. Or you will definately have a field day with it, that is from my experience.
Wait was that in the Q&A section that it was asked?
Anyways to answer your question;
The app was made for an unthemed version of the rom. When we theme stuff in the framework often times it directly effects some apps. Apps that are using framework colors anyways.
The only way to fix the app is to mod the app yourself or use a unthemed rom.
Theming is a tough job as it cant usually be done without effecting something else (app) unfortunately.
Hope that helps...
Thank you shoman, that was the first useful reply to my original question.

I think you need to understand where XDA came from. It was never meant as a place for the masses to come and gather. It was meant for developers to come and share knowledge to make their phones better. What you see now is what happens when you do it EXTREMELY WELL. It is EXPECTED OF YOU to read, read, and read some more before you ask questions. Yes that may take minutes, hours or even days, but that's what you have to do.

That dude was not nice... I had the same problem when started into xda, search results had no answer for my specific dilemma, and I had to make 10 posts before being able to get a real answer for my initial question. But it helped me out, cause now I use search all the time when I got questions and haven't had anyone scold me over my posts, but all that aside this is a very useful forum. Enjoy XDA!

What did I tell you? I said that you didnt need to start a thread to ask your question. There were plenty of threads already started that you could have popped in and asked your question. Once again, no reading was done. Had you read my post (let me quote that for you here):
Then I suggest you read the sticky thread and look at the FAQ and look in the Iscrewed thread for your answers. Just because you cant post to ask your probably already answered question, dosent mean you get to start a new thread about it.

I said NOT TO START A NEW THREAD ABOUT IT. Thats why it was closed. If you consider that scolding, then you're in a rude awakening from other members here at XDA.
The reason we put up the 10 post minimum was because 99.9% of all questions are either answered in the sticky threads, guides, walkthroughs, FAQ or threads already started... you just have to look. As previously stated by another member, by learning to search when you first register, it set a precident for the remainder of your stay on how to act and what to do on this forum.
This is a Development site for Developers... its not a phone version of WalMart where people pop in to start a thread or just order what they want. If you want answers, just like the internet itself, you're going to have to search... and this same answer can be found in the sticky at the top of this forum.

I would like to direct this to the Moderators or any other higher ups that need to get involved.
This Q&A Bot thing is rediculous.
It is posting in seemingly every device for every rom. Stating to direct all questions in regard to a rom in Q&A sections in order to keep development from getting clogged up.
All its doing is clogging up Q&A.
I thought the concept was, if it is a question within regards to a specific rom, that's what the thread is for?
If it is a device specific question, then it goes to Q&A?
When you click to view Q&A Bot profile, it comes up invalid. Is this a new system generated thing to organize the threads better?
Not working. To me it is just as bad as having an ad pop up.
Honestly, I find myself wanting to come on here less. I come here in attempt to help others if I can. An attempt to return favors that others have done for me. What is the point of Q&A Bot to create a thread it cannot support or will not respond to?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I527 using XDA Free mobile app

The Q&A bot only comes into action when a new user tries posting in the development section. As you know, new users can't post in development threads. So the Q&A bot makes a new thread in the Q&A section so the new users post can be read.
I can see where xda thinks this is a way of getting newbies heard and keeping development threads clean. But when you boil it all down it actually creates clutter and disarray. Because after all isn't XDA a development site? Therefore all threads here are considered development threads in my opinion.
In my opinion only recognized developers should be able to post in development threads. All development posts should have links to respective Q&A threads. Leaving development threads clean of everything but the dev's posts. This way the dev can post tweaks, bugs and tips that are easily found without going thru 100's of posts to find solutions. The dev can monitor the Q&A thread and answer questions there. When a valid question arises the dev can answer it in the Q&A thread. Then make an update post in the development thread.
What do you think?
If only people with "RD" status can post in the dev section this device and a lot more others would be pretty boring to own. I agree with @captemo those threads are cluttering the place up and are a bit annoying, plus I thought there was a 10 post count rule that prevented new users to post in the dev section? is that rule no longer in place or something or is it being circumvented in some way? I get the point of those threads in order to help out new users get the advice they seek and all but honestly its seems like a lot of users now a days don't bother to read a few pages of a thread let alone use the search function , and want to be spoon fed. Not trying to be a d-bag or any thing like that but it gets a bit out of hand at times seeing the answer they seek is just usually a few pages back from the last one. OK my ranting is over lol....

i agree with some of what all you have said...but with that said.
our Q&A section is already a mess. The only one ive ever seen that wasnt is in the epic 4g touch forum, and thats because they had a member create a noob friendly support thread for all questions and roms. And the members, myself included, made sure questions were posted there and not just making a new thread for questions that have been asked and answered. It also allowed the more experienced members to have a place to help that was easy to find and point noobs in the right direction.
if you guys are interested in starting and supporting such a thread. i would look at the e4gt thread for ideas how to set it up...or u can look at the one i made and support in the galaxy tab 10.1 forum. Here is the Link to mine, as i cant seem to get a mod over there to sticky it.
These threads should give you all a nice idea about how a similar thread here would help, if used and a mod stickies it so it is always seen by new members.
as im soon departing this forum for a new device..i will not start such a thread. But will always stop in to help support it.
Have a great day,
Gil81 ( John )
