Hola. I hate to sound like im asking for tech support, but I was trying to play some music today, and it said I had no songs. All of my music was in fact on the internal sd, playable in Astro, but it didn't show up in any apps. This is the same for pictures in the gallery. Weird. Also, the media scanner always takes a second, jumping from 0% to 100%. So does anyone have a clue what might be up? (Bionix-V 1.3.1).

Make sure you don't have a file named .nomedia where your pictures and music are at. This will stop media scanner from looking for media files in the directory where the ".nomedia" file exists.
Also, check this thread.

Thanks! I never would of thought of that

FYI.... I did search for music topics and as usual, the search feature was no help. I keep noticing after adding music on my SD card, that many files always come up as "cannot read file," and this happens regardless of the app I'm using to try and play the track. I also have other MP3's on the phone that play with no problem. I have checked the details of the files in question to make sure they are indeed mp3's and they are, so any clues as to what is going wrong? I feel that this should be such a simple task, but I keep hitting a wall. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
Have you removed mediascape out of curiosity?
There are several system apps which are requiered to play media files, if you have rooted your phone, ensure that apps like "Multimedia Storage", "DRM Protected Content Storage" and "Download Manager" aren't frozen/removed (ie. using Titanum Backup) from your phone.
It seems that all the above mentioned apps are installed and running fine. Also, I did not remove mediascape. I have been using that as well as the winamp beta, but more than 50% of my MP3's come up as file cannot be read and can now be deleted. What apps are you guys using to listen to music files and how are you installing your music to your phone? I can't figure this out..
Thanks for the responses by the way..

Have you tried the micro-SD card in another reader or PC - sounds like it might be a corrupted / dodgey card to me...
So, my phone has no mods on it, and its not rooted. I have alot of music on the internal storage (until I get an external card) and its annoying me because not all songs show up... when connected to a pc, it shows I have it but when i turn mass storage mode off, media scanner wont find anything. I used 'rescan media' from the market to see if that worked but no dice.
Where'd you get the music that's not showing up? And what format is it in?

It was right out of my music folder I use on my computer . Some are also right our of the folder iTunes reads out of. (Copy and paste). They are all mp3. I also see that media scanner never says 'media scanning finished' anymore. It worked until today...

Most times media scanning will only show up after a reboot or something is deleted. Not in day to day use. If the music you're having issues with is from iTunes, it may have drm protection on it, specifically for not allowing it to play on another device.

That's what's weird. It did play before. Also, media scanner just pops up whenever it feels like it. Even during music playback

Any way to play music downloaded by google music in a different music player?

Click menu in Google music and find make available offline. Check the box for any of the music you want to have on the phone as files and when finished selecting the music, hot the check Mark on the left bottom corner and it will start downloading songs from you account.
Edit: never mind what I said above. It will download the music but the way it saves the files, you can't open in other programs. Probably have to do it through a computer.

I haven't gotten my Rezound yet (still waffling between in and the Nexus)
However, on my DX, Gmusic stores the downloaded/cached files in
/sdcard/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music.
there is a .nomedia file in that directory which keeps the 'media server' from searching that directory for music. If you remove that file, then other apps should see the files.
However, they have no metadata and are simply named with a sequential number.
end result: you could play the music with another app, but wouldn't know what it is or have album art
Feel dumb cause I don't know this by now.... But is there any way to choose what folder my music plays out of? Because every time I listen to music it plays every sound there is on my card: music, ringtones, text tones, etc. And its incredibly annoying.

Folder(s)
Perhaps organize the sounds, music, etc into separate folders on your SD card.
Music player should find the mp3's. This method works for me.
You can add a .nomedia file or search Play for a .nomedia manager.
I made a folder called music on sd card, its all that plays

Read over this thread, it'll take care of your problems:

The best thing to do is to connect to a computer and start organizing folders and then add .nomedia to the folders.
This is kind of a two part problem, but related.
So my gallery no longer shows Any thumbnails, and music player lists no songs on my phone. Even though I know that they are all there.
I need your help guys, I'll try to state as clearly as I can as to what I did.
I downloaded an app called "sd maid" a couple days ago to"clean" my sd card. While in it, I navigated to the "system cleaner" option and proceeded to clean it out. I ended up cleaning out the gallery thumbnail and music thumb folders (this is where I goof'd), and this is where my problem comes up.
My gallery no longer shows ANY thumbnails. I've tried to fix it by clearing gallery cache and restarting the phone. No go. I've reflashed the Rom(slim bean 4.2) and nothing. Funny thing is that all my photos including thumbnails show up in quickpic, but not in stock gallery.
Music player is the same thing, I open it and none of my files show up, but if I navigate to the file using root explorer, I can listen to the song. I downloaded double twist player to see if it was just the stock player not working, and its not. Double twist doesn't seem to be able to list my songs either.
So I done goof'd... What else do I do guys? Do you think this is recoverable?

Use a file explorer to look for a file call .nomedia you will need to show hidden files. If you fine said file anywhere up stream from your media delete it. Then reboot.
