[Q] Devoid.Franco Rom - Optimus One, P500, V General

Got my first ever smart phone with the T-Mobile Optimus T or the LG 509 (weird thing is that when I unlocked it, I had to use the code for the LG 500 - that's what it says in the firmware). My question is that I have been messing with Devoid.Franco's rom and it's awesome. Do I use all three files?
1. Franco's Rom
2. Franco's 13.5 Kernel
3. Franco's Tweaks.zip file
Thanks again for all the help!!!

Tweaks is already part of the rom. Do not flash it on top. Just the rom, reboot, then kernel. The tweaks file is for use with non franco roms.

Thanks for the reply. Let me check to see if the following steps are right once I get into recovery mode and after the partition and wipe.
1. Load Devoid.Franco Rom
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Load Devoid.Franco Kernel
4. Reboot to recovery
5. Load some essential apps
6. Reboot to home screen
7. Load setcpu and set it on smartass with 729/480
and I should be good to go? I did it a few days ago steps 1, 3 and 5 all at the same time meaning I didn't reboot, does it make a difference? Thanks again for all the great information !!!

If it works then it doesn't matter. But in the future do it like this:
1 in recovery flash new rom.
2 reboot normally and wait a few seconds to let the rom set itself up.
3 reboot to recovery.
4 wipe cache and dalvik cache.
5 flash kernel
6 reboot normally.
7 ???
If you want apps install them after this. These steps are not all necessary, but they might prevent some issues and are never bad so why not?

Thanks again for all the detailed steps. I will give it another try with kernel 13.3 instead of 13.5 (newest gives me double icons sometimes for angry bird and grooveshark and it froze a few times, didn't have any problems with 13.3 before). I will remember the wiping cache and dalvik steps between the rom and the kernel, thanks again !!!

ROM Flashing and Kernel Flashing; Order of Operation?

Hey guys, I've been flashing roms and kernals for a little while now and still I'm far from an expert. I've managed to brick my phone recover and do many other things from the help of this forums and I thank you. But I guess I never knew the answer to the following question.
Is it better to flash a rom then flash the kernel (Overstock, tigersblood etc) before loading the rom and waiting 10 mins or is it better to flash the rom, then load the rom wait ten mins or so then go back into CWM and flash the kernel and wait another 10 mins?
What makes for a more stable rom?
I always flash the rom, do a reboot recovery, flash the kernel then let the phone boot into android. Haven't had any issues.

Flashing kernel first is dumb, because doesn't flashing the ROM replace the kernel????
Obviously.
1) Flash rom
2) any kernel if any at all
3) factory reset (depends on rom)
4) reboot
5) wait 10 minutes, and reboot and done.
I think he meant flash rom then flash kernel immediately or let rom boot, wait 10 then flash kernel...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
You CAN flash the rom and then immediately do the kernel, BUT
I believe it is preferred/better to do the rom... let it sit for 10 minutes... reboot.... restore all your apps, reboot into recovery, flash the kernel, rejoice.
That is my preferred method.
Lol, this is a funny thread. But heres what i do.
- Flash ROM
- Boot (Let sit 15min) play blackops here
- Power off phone
- Power on phone
- Reboot recovery
- Flash kernel (usually OC)
- Restore setcpu
- OC system and begin restore process of titanium, sms, bookmarks and such.
Only reason i do this is personally i like to restore with the system OC but thats just me.

Do you lose all settings/media on phone when flashing kernels like you do when you flash ROMs?
No you don't

How to overclock processor using stock rom ?? [ SOLVED]

Hi all,can someone teach me how to overclock my phone processor
which is default processor speed in 600mhz to higher clock speed ??
because i found i play some game will lag, example angry birds
*i don't want to use custom rom, because last time fail to flash it and send to service centre due to can't turn on phone
so,i hope all of you can teach me step-by-step guide to overclock my processor speed with using stock rom v10f
Regards
if you dont want to try a custom rom i dont know about overclocking the stock rom but i think this will work, it will for sure work for the lag fix for angrybirds, you can flash milks kernel it should work for both problems although i would suggest flashing a new ROM if you want to see significant performance enhancement
Take nandroid before flashing..
I suggest u flash cavermans v3 kernel. Or franco kernel.
Install setcpu and u can overclock..
but i dunno how to flash kernel
some1 can teach ?
To overclock on stock:
Root your phone using z4root or gingerbreak.
Use Setcpu to overclock.
There are guides on rooting around this forum somewhere, have a search.

Also, 13.5 has some WiFi problems (huge lag on reboot before it connects to WiFi). At least on my latest stock ROM.

[Q] Looking for ROM that's closest to stock Android

Hi, I'm running a stock P500 and I'm a bit disappointed with its performance. I'm looking for a ROM which is feature-complete, i.e. no missing features such as Bluetooth calling, etc. and minimal to no deviation from the stock Android UI. Any suggestions?
use megatron ROM it is the closest in my opinion and has very good performance but i would suggest trying the other ROMs that have gingerbread like miks cm7 they are not missing much and what they are missing you can get back

flash Franco kernel
take note* For 2.2 flash with CFS
Do as what you are told on their page.. I or the dev will not be responsilble.
Ok, so this is all kinda new to me so I wanted to make sure that I have the basics covered:
1. I need to root my phone. I'm running Android 2.2.2 so I guess that means I need to use gingerbreak. It's an .apk file that I need to install on my phone and then I run it to gain root access. Are there any command line actions needed for gingerbreak?
2. After rooting, I need to install a ROM manager such as CWM or AmonRA. If I'm not mistaken, the program itself will install the custom recovery, right? And how do I boot into that recovery mode?
3. After booting into recovery mode, I need to do a nandroid (?) backup of my current ROM, right? And the backup of my stock ROM is restored through the same custom recovery, yes? Would restoring the stock ROM unroot my phone and remove the custom recovery as well?
3. After backing up, I need to flash the custom ROM which should be saved as a .zip file on my SD card. Do I need to worry about the kernel as well?
Sorry if I have a lot of questions.

1. Install it, open it and select "Root"
2. No, the root program won't install the recovery. You need to do that; the easiest way is by Rom Manager (download from market); boot in recovery: turn off the phone and start it by pressing at the same time: home + vol down + power key and release at lg logo to enter custom recovery or just select boot into recovery from ROM Manager
3. Yes, make a backup and to restore it just select "restore" from the same place. No, you will restore the backup you just made so your phone will be exactly the way it was when you created the backup (including apps, settings etc)
4. Yes, you will enter "install zip from sdcard -> choose zip". Don't forget to wipe cache, dalvik cache, data/factory reset and format /system before you flash the rom. Other kernels are not mandatory but highly recommended (the differences are big) - also wipe just cache & dalvik cache before flashing the kernel

The chaces of bricking the phone are very small.
What can happen:
- some people reported that their phone got bricked when they installed the recovery with ROM Manager (this can be easily undone, there is a thread about this). Never happened to me, everything went smooth & fast. There are other ways to install a recovery if you don't want to use ROM Manager, just check the Development section.
- the ROM you choose can be uncompatible with your recovery (all the new roms are compatible with clockworkmod recovery (this is the recovery you will install via ROM Manager); there are some older roms which are compatible only with AmonRA)
- after flashing a custom kernel the phone might not boot (no panic, just flash the rom again or restore backup); check if your ROM is compatible with the kernel you choose
Flashing with recovery is very safe because everything can be easily undone. As long as the phone boots into recovery there is no panic.
But most of the time if your cautious and do everything as told your fine~~
hahaha.. Enjoy..
Rom manager give Cwm.. So no hassle..

Your backup will appear as a folder on the root of your sdcard (/clockworkmod/folder with the date of your backup). You need to save that folder on your pc just to be safe.

Thanks! Is it safe to do all the flashing/work from within ROM Manager? It just seems too easy to be true.
Also, is there a 'compatibility matrix' of some sort for the different ROMS and kernels available? Since I want GB, I'm planning on flashing Mik's CM7 mod. Is Franco's kernel compatible with that?

mik_os's rom is flashable via clockworkmod recovery and compatible with franco.kernel (bfs version).

Thanks. I was able to gain root as well as install CWM. I'm currently backing up my current ROM. Now I'm not sure if this is a stupid question but when I install a custom ROM, wouldn't that overwrite CWM? How do I go back to recovery then, say, to reflash my original ROM?
Flashing a rom through recovery does not overwrite the recovery.
And you can always boot into recovery by pressing and holding home+volume down+power when the phone is off till the recovery menu boots.

For flashing rom : wipe everything, partition SD card only of you want to use a2sd or data2sd (check ciaox's REPO thread for more info about these two) and then choose flash from zip. If you are wiping battery stats then do it when you are fully charged.
For flashing kernel : wipe cache, dalvik cache and battery stats. No need to partition SD card.
EDIT: yes you need to flash zram initialiser. Keep in mind to flash Cfs version for froyo and bfs version for gb roms. Also always reboot between multiple flashes.

Complete Guide how to use Custom Kernel

This guide (A-Z) for most custom roms for x10 out there how to use custom kernel.
-Just skip to step 10 if you already have the Custom Rom flashed.
++REMINDER++ please don't install custom kernel provided by the ROMs modders just yet, or you will end up stucked at Bootloops.
Thanks to J, Z, Goroh, DL, AZ, AD, WB, AJ and all of you!!
1 - Flash your X10 with fresh SE Firmwares using Flashtool, Reboot, wait until you got stable signal. Turn on USB debugging.
2 - Root your phone using Flashtool, Install Busybox included in Flashtool.
3 - Reboot you phone. Now go to your phone screen, search for Busybox icon. open Busybox, press install.
4 - Download xRecovery 0.3, place it in your SD card.
5 - Open your file manager and search for xRecovery that you just downloaded. Install xRecovery
6 - Download your Preferred Baseband (i'm using .54 in this Guide)
7 - Flash your new Baseband using FlashTool. Reboot, wait until you got stable signal
8 - Download your Preferred custom Rom (Achotjan_2.2.3_v06 & Wolftweak ROM V009) this guide should work for all custom roms. Place it in your SD card.
9 - Reboot, now go to your xRecovery. Flash the new custom rom.
10 - Download Goroh custom Kernel 362 & DoomLord custom Kernel v02 boot.img & wifi module (X-Series for me)

12 - Install setCPU, open. Set your setCPU Max: 1113600 Min: 128000 (Higher might get WLOD)
13 - Reboot, open your xRecovery again and flash the latest kernel from DoomLord v02 X-series boot.img & wifi module
14 - Reboot, enjoy the latest custom kernel!
15 - You know what, Your just F****D SE in the AZZ... xD
S-series - Stock like - will be using stock SE kernel voltages, so should work on most devices w/o issues
X-series - eXtreme - will be undervolted, so as to give better battery life
This is what i did, and it's working Perfectly on AJ & WB Rom
No Negative Comment Please.
the first 9 steps arent required actually
they are only useful if u want to do a CLEAN install of everything...
have a look here: How-To for testing custom kernel
anyways i am glad that u got it working...
Just now i posted a reply in Wolf`s thread regarding changing the BB. thanks for the tutorial , will try soon

QUESTIONS
a. After rooting the phone, do you have launch Busybox? I though it was already installed and functional as part of the root process (Flashtool seems to think so)?
b. Why go through the process of downloading xRecovery and installing it manually, when you can install it directly through FlashTool?
c. At what point (if any) once you're in xRecovery should you be wiping things like phone cache, Dalvik cache, and battery stats?
d. If this is to be a general guide, you may want to mention that SetCPU is really an option, and not a required part of the process.

c. At what point (if any) once you're in xRecovery should you be wiping things like phone cache, Dalvik cache, and battery stats?
d. If this is to be a general guide, you may want to mention that SetCPU is really an option, and not a required part of the process.

a. you´re right

c. not extremely necessary if you follow the instructions (flash from scratch) but always advisable when change between roms. always right before the installation of the new rom

Great guide, I no longer get random reboots but i cant get wifi to work..

ROM:FreeXperia Achotjan Froyo 2.2.3
Baseband: .54
RESOLVED.
Started from scratch and used

Boot.img (Froyo)
and
Wifi module
Then I had to re-enter wifi password once wifi was working again.

8 - Download your Preferred custom Rom (Achotjan_2.2.3_v06 & Wolftweak ROM V008.1) this guide should work for all custom roms. Place it in your SD card.
9 - Reboot, now go to your xRecovery. Flash the new custom rom.
10 - Download Goroh custom Kernel 360 & DoomLord custom Kernel v02 boot.img & wifi module (X-Series for me)
11 - Reboot, go to your xRecovery and flash Goroh custom Kernel 360 FIRST!. Reboot, wait until you got stable signal

Cool.
One more question:
Is it sufficient to make an xRecovery backup of the stock ROM after installing and rooting it, and then restoring that to create a "fresh install" of a new ROM, or is there something that isn't done by restoring that makes doing it all from scratch a better option?
Just wondering so I can potentially save some time for future ROM installs.

it's not really necessary because, you can always flash it with SE Firmware with fresh stock rom.

[Q] Where to download CM Specific Basic Kernel v3.0

Hi!
I use the ROM CyanogenMod 7.2 - BroadcomCM [COOPERVE] [RC 4 - 16/08/2013]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080065
and ThunderKernel 2.1 [UPDATE 22/10/2013]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335947
and have a few issues with this combination.
I actually wanted to use the recommended kernel for this ROM which is CM Specific Basic Kernel v3.0, but I cannot find it anywhere to download.
In the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2253010
there are only download links for version 4.0, but my phone won't boot the ROM with version 4.0 of the kernel...
I would love if bieltv.3 could offer the old version for download or if someone could point me to where I can download the old version.
Thanks!
u can use version 4
its better than v3

the post is old that's why it is saying to install V3.
But V4 is better than V3 and resolved many bugs and have faster bootup.
So my recommendation is to use v4 rather than v3
Thank you for your kind replies. The only trouble is that with v4 of the kernel my phone won't boot the ROM. It always gets stuck on the boot screen (while displaying its name Samsung GT-S5830i...". (Sorry, I forgot to mention that in my previous post...) I was hoping that with v3 I could manage to boot.
However, I might have some hardware issue. I bought the phone a few days ago for next to nothing with a shattered display glass (still usable) and immediately rooted it and installed CM7.2 RC4 without having tested the phone thoroughly on stock ROM...

This problem happened with me also.
Fix (Not official but worked for me)
After flashing the kernel mount system and date, then flash the rom.
Then do not reboot.
Again mount the system then again flash the rom.
Then reboot. (Your Problem is solved)
If your problem is solved please reply.
I think he must experiencing the 5 seconds installation. Does your installation last more or less than 5 seconds.

The flashing of CM Specific Basic Kernel v4 takes less than 5 seconds in my case. It seems more like 2 seconds. I tried several times and it definitely is shorter than 5 seconds.
I get the following output to the screen:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Flashing Kernel...
Install from sdcard complete.

When I flash ThunderKernel the process might take 1 second longer, but also less than 5 seconds.
I get the following output to the screen:

Installing ThunderKernel...
-Copying needed files...
-Flashing ThunderKernel
ThunderKernel flashed!
Thanks for using ThunderKernel!

No, I did not format in ext4, I followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44868197
and formatted /system, /data, /cache to RFS before flashing the kernel and then the ROM. The reason was that after the first install I was not able to download anything from the Play Store. The procedure described in the post seemed to have solved the issue.

I will try that method, but first I need to do a nandroid backup as I don't want to loose all my customization.

Thank you very much for the great instructions. Just one question: I have permanent cwm recovery which I got when flashing the bieltv.3 v4 kernel for the first time on a stock phone trying to install -- I believe -- Slim ROM CM7.2. (Actually, I don't remember which guide I was following exactly.) Will your method work now that I already have a permanent cwm recovery or should I go back to stock ROM or stock recovery and then follow your instructions?

Sorry for the late reply, I was traveling without my laptop and wanted to back up everything before reflashing the ROM.
The good news: It worked! Great!
The only difference I made was to install the fix for the app store first and then the gapps package for CM7.2. When I did it the other way around, I had no play store on the phone.
Thank you all for your help!
