I sent engadget an email to post an article talking about everything we are trying to do and everything htc is doing with the bootloader. I will continue to email other sites but would be awesome if other people could possibly be doing this as well. I know everyone is doing everything they can and maybe we will make a dent in something. Stay united everyone

Please. That was just a nice way of saying "shut the hell up". HTC will do as they please (Thunderbolt, Sensation, EVO 3D). It's a shame and I hope they realize their mistake when they see sales figures while I enjoy my Galaxy S2. I am sure there will be TONS of support for it considering how few developers will be messing with the EVO 3D.

If corporate policy = political policy, snailmail is the way to go. They really pay attention to something people took the time to physically mail. Phone calls are next, and internet is at the bottom.
No time to be lazy folks, we don't have much time to turn this around.

[Q] 3D vs. Photon

I know this is the EVO 3D forum so opinions will lean that way but I'm going back to Sprint from T-Mobile. Should I get the 3D or wait a month and get the Motorola Photon? Which will be the better phone?
Depends on what you are looking for. If 3 matters obviously the 3d. If you are a sense fan then the 3d as well. However I kind of like that the photon has some of the things the 3vo is missing. For one the kickstand not deal breaker but it comes in handy and an 8Mp camera with 1080p video as opposed to 5mp with 720p. Now the big draw back. The motorolla is supposed to ship with a locked bootloader. So if you like to run roms you are rolling the dice. It may or may not be unlocked at a future date. Personally I trust the 3vo to be rooted much sooner than the photon. All that said check out the Samsung Nexus II as well. Looks to be a contender.
Can anyone dispute the claim made in this article about Motorola?

I'm just saying thats on the word of a dude on twitter and then it says at the end of the year and at the discrection of the carrier. Either way it is supposed to ship with a locked bootloader and you will likely be waiting a while. IMHO thats a crap shoot you may or may not get an unlocked bootloader. I wish it wasn't so I really like this phone better than the 3vo for my personal needs but what to do.
Isn't the 3vo going to be locked as well to start? I know HTC came out and said they will no longer lock bootloaders, but there seems to be no confirmation on 1.) If they will even allow the 3vo to be unlocked, and 2.) If so, when that will happen. It's all a crapshoot I guess.

Good point maximus I'm just going off past performance and HTC's official stance to disable the bootloaders. I trust them more to follow through than Motorola but alas this is all just my opinion.
It all depends on HTC I guess. There are going to be a lot of disappointed 3vo owners if they finally realize after a few weeks that the devs can't work miracles and unlock encrypted bootloaders. No custom ROMs or modifications unless HTC comes through.

That's great he said that, but will that be next month or in 6 months? No one knows really, and he may have said that at the time to calm people down who were angry over it. I'm not saying HTC is going to go back on their word, but there still is nothing set in stone in my book.

OK. That's your opinion. But given that the appropriate devs have the Eng bootloader in hand already, I would expect root not too long after its released....assuming no encryption. But well see I guess.

There's going to be a massive flood of these things on eBay in about 4-6 months if they don't unencrypt it, and the "next" best thing comes along. I think part of the success of the evo4g was the development aspect of it. I just hope HTC realizes that. Could have great potential if they push an update out fairly quickly so there is an easy method to root.

As far as the Photon being locked it will be. Now As far as that memo, There are bits and pieces missing. However it's not the 1st Motorola has said it will no longer lock the phones down. in fact every time I have seen this pop up it's been almost the exact same thing, even the "by the end of the year." But I have also read multiple times that that statements means phones coming out at the end of the year the Photon is not included in that group. I believe if you look on XDA as well as the internet you can find that to be true.
I just want to make sure I get the best phone out there and don't miss out. I sign up with Sprint on the 23rd to take advantage of the switch over deal and will get the EVO 4g . The 3D comes out the next day and I read somewhere the Photon comes out in July possibly the 21st. I don't want to use a free exchange in the 1 month time period only to be disappointed I didn't wait for the other phone

The cool thing about the Photon is it has HDMI out AND Micro USB port (so it can charge while playing movies (using the two cables at once). As for the EVO 3D, it has a new technology that lets HDMI charge the phone while it's plugged into the TV for HDMI out, however NO tvs out currently support this feature, so you will have to buy an adapter.
Tegra 2 CPU (Photon) is weaker than Snapdragon (EVO 3D). They're both dual core and really fast, but EVO should be superior in most situations. Motorola has stated that the bootloader is unlocked, but some rumors have it that it's still locked down tight and uncrackable (see Droid 2). This definitely makes me lean towards HTC. One more thing, HTC seems to have alot more development behind it (far more than any other manufacturer (Samsung's catching up!). To be honest, your choices should be between the GSII (Samsung within for Sprint) or the EVO 3D.

That will not have any short term impact on HTC. The amount of us that would sell would have no effect on them.
However, it's people like us that most others go to for phone advice. Once as a company loses our trust and favor the fallout regarding future phones will be exponential.
The important thing is that it will hopefully not be encrypted.

Hi..
I got The HTC EVO 3D in June 22, as part of Sprint Premier Custumer I'm. But the are some things that are missing and i want to know what happened here.
For example, Flashlight APP, Battery Widget, Panaromic Camera, and the Transparent Rosie that everybody saw on CTIA Event. That is very disappointing.
I will attach a Photo of the Transparent Rosie that was anounced in the CTIA Wireless event, compared with the EVO 4G.

I understand the importance of having your device perform to the fullest of its ability. The applications you describe were removed from the production model of the Sprint EVO 3D at Sprint's request so that it would function as intended. I do paologize for any inconvenience.

My guess is now that it has been made legit, even if the the OTA has no ETA everything will be AOK because some HTC QA tester will leak some keys to the locked bootloader to XDA on the DL ASAP.
The phone is smoking fast and sense 3.0 is great so I don't care how long it takes.....as long as it gets unlocked i'll be happy

Great news!
Yes this is great hopefully everyone will keep the bootloader htc emails in here and out of the dev section.
btw this was noted in the xHausx thread by me when I asked them why they didn't just toss it up on their site like xhausx suggested.
Their response(2days ago) was thats not how they want to do it and they are currently still developing the software to do such in a software update.
btw nice work, at least attempt at making a big stride in your thread in the Dev section. Nice to see people trying stuff!

Oh i agree. keep it going till its officially done and out for everyone.
If you accept an OTA to unlock the 3VO's bootloader, is it possible that Sprint can somehow disable wireless tethering even on a rooted device? I would think that they know what's up; everyone with a rooted device doesn't have to pay $30 for hotspot.

NS4G doesn't have to pay $30 for hotspot...AND the phone comes unlockable out of the box.
I doubt Sprint cares that much....we are a relatively small minority of their total accounts and we are going to find a way to tether for free regardless of if we get unlocked or not.
Also isn't Sprint the only company that doesn't censor tether apps from the market? I'm pretty sure they also have an official 'non-anti-tether' stance.
...and that's to say nothing of the fact that we pay for our data service and who cares where our bits come from and go to? We pay for the transport of said bits...the contents, origination and destination should really be irrelevant.
Besides, I can saturate my wireless connection with pandora or a couple of downloads on my phone just as easily as I could by hooking it up to a computer.
EDIT: Either way, I don't think they could possibly prevent tethering without throwing multiple monkey wrenches into the works.
When i went to look at the phone the otherday on the 24th my sprint guy that i always deal with said u know they r unlocking the bootloader in 60 days right? An i was like no i thought it would already be unlocked he said he read somewhere 60 days to try an get ppl to stay with it
Now idk if this is true or not by the way this guy didnt know a thing on how to root untill i showed him now he flashes roms like crazy lol

HTC, Please Stop Being D***bags

Am I the only one that is sick of HTC lagging on releasing source code. I'm so tired of them dragging their sorry asses around with slow code releases for our phones. The whole thing is so stupid.
First we have the stupid 1.5 Hboot problem. What a pain in the ass. All so a few thousand people can't properly tinker with the device, which they paid good money for. That is so weak. And from a company that is supposed to be dev friendly. Right. All they are is annoying the most loyal customers they have.
Next we have the lack of source code for the newest kernel, 2.17.651.5. Without this code, the entire developer section is divided. We want the features from the established roms, but we can't have them along with the new OTA updates without your code. Just release it already. We are not going to sell it or start our own phone companies for F sake. We can't even use our cameras properly since you gave us botched camera code compared to other similar phones. Only god knows why you would do that.
PLEASE, if an HTC rep reads this, please help the community out. Give us the complete tools to unlock our phones, and the code to customize our phones as we see fit. We all promise to not break them and return them for one of the millions you already have sitting around the world. We already bought your stupid phone(s). Now give us the tools to make them better.
Thank you.
ps
When you release the update for ICS, please give us the option to run with or without Sense. Some of us love it, some of us hate it. But let it be our choice. Perhaps you could make Sense a bundle of widgets on top of ICS. I don't care how you do it, just do it right for a change.

Why are you still here?
Sell your phone if you don't like it.. or how the manufacturer release update/source
I'm sure the photon/ET4G forums need your wisdom and advice

Why are reading this thread? You knew what you would find when you openend it.
I'm still here because I own an Evo 3D, why the heck do you think I'm still here? Dumbass.
I don't believe that other manufactures are that much better. I guess try one and see. With that said I feel as though source should be released THE SAME TIME AS the update or with in a week. None of this 30 day/when we get to it crap.

No need to start the childish name calling...
My point is simple sell it if you don't like it... Then tell your boy friend and all your chums you think HTC is bollocks...
Complaining about it isn't getting you far on xda...
Reverting to your childish ways I can tell you don't know how to handle your self when sarcasm and questions are directed at you...rather than name calling a simple "i own it,and I'm gonna make sure everyone knows I hate it" answer would have sufficed...
And I'm the dumbass.... Lol
Atleast I know when to let things go and move on..

yeah this gets kinda old but does anyone really spit out their kernel source in a timely manner besides Google?
I remember this guy running at the mouth talking about HTC delays last year.

I am talking about the phone... Let the EVO 3d go... And move on... Obviously you have nothing good to say about it..
Dedicated to you? Not so much... A question to you.. yes I'm sorry do I need to ask your permission to talk to you first?
I can see from your previous posts/arguments you have reason NOT to sell your phone and move on...
With that I will move on as the only thing you know how to do is bicker over a question...I wish you the best and hope you over come your personality complex

You asked what I am still doing here. In a thread that was not started by me, with several other replies, every single one of them *****ing about HTC, you decided to ask ME what I'm still doing here. So I told you, I have an Evo 3d, why the heck do you think I'm still here?
Why don't I sell it? Because there isn't another 3D phone on Sprint at the moment and I got stuck in a 2 year contract when I bought this phone. Common sense.

I agree with him - this phone is "meh" AT BEST as long as HTC does business this way. I'm constantly checking my contract end date because I'm going to bail unless HTC changes things. Unfortunately, it's probably going to be a sammy. Oh I almost forgot to ask - please bugger off.

Obviously haven't seen the sh*t storm going on in those forums lately esp the Razor since Moto refuses to unlock their bootloaders even after stating specifically last year that they would be unlockable...

I haven't seen it. I'm hoping now that google owns them things will change. I won't be buying one of their phones until they are unlockable though, so it doesn't matter.
Samsung is a viable alternative though. Fully unlockable on day 1 and source.code released in a timely manner.

Yeah Motorola aren't saints either, matter fact, all of these phone manufacturers are no good, its just a matter of picking your poison when choosing a manufacturer & phone. Had 3 Samsung phones (Moment, Epic, & Nexus S 4G), but I chose to stick with HTC because of the huge dev community behind it, & I'm at peace with that choice.

Now thats a positive for Sammy, I seen them release source code BEFORE carriers release OTA's!

This is why I buy HTC phones and continue to support them

as many of you know, i've been in contact with customer support since launch day of the rezound, reporting any bugs we had, the pink light issue and mainly the bad audio during video recording. iv'e spoken to them over the phone countless times to tell them whats up, and voiced all of our concerns.
a year later, of course there's a few issues with teh DNA, so i dug back up an old ticket and was able to chat with support again, and i was able to get the same guy i spoke with last year. we've been messaging back and forth almost daily about issues and i've got a thread ongoing here where people submit any bugs or suggestions, and i know for a fact HTC is looking at them.
the other day, he asked me for my address along with inviting me to join HTC Elevate. today i got this in the mail. on top of it, i'm sure you all remember how i recently was able to get an HTC rep to my store for the first time since we've opened just by contacting them..the day after i wrote to them, a rep was at my store to show me all the new HTC stuff, and provided free display models and brochures...and a day after that, HTC sent a huge box of stuff to give customers (stands, bracelets, sim card openers, ice scrapers, little things)
so yeah. this is why i deal with HTC. i know they'll listen to me, and i know how much they appreciate our consumer feedback. i've never had a company treat me so well as a customer and with such a level of personal contact.
Very cool :good:
Very nice.
Maybe HTC could teach Asus a thing or two...
Do they know about the sim card issue?

i believe so. if it's in my thread, they check it out. i'm going to write back today to thank them for it, so i'll mention it. again, have any of you guys tried antoher sim? sim's do go bad sometimes; i see it often.
Cool This is my first HTC and I've been happy so far. Before this I had a Motorola Droid X, which was my first smartphone.
i like the htc andy :good:
Hey Jay,
Can you ask them to slip you an S-off hboot?
Ok but seriously...
If you would, Plz ask if a radio update is in the works. I love this phone, but my Rezound got MUCH better reception.
Thanks,
The Beeb

ALSO, awesome to see you on the DNA dude!
I like htc too, but as designers they have a few things to work on like there sense ui havent really evolve at all since it was initial launch, and they did not learn from last experience meaning the battery with the thunderbolt and now the DNA

dude, if you're having as bad battery on a DNA as you did a Thunderbolt, go get a replacement. this battery KILLS the thunderbolt. go read the battery thread. we're getting great life out of it.

Uh, battery life is great. 4-5 hours screen on time is normal and you can push it to 6 no problem.

I want that cup, Google and eBay both come up empty....
Yeah, I've had to "help manage" my wife and daughter's Samsung phones and I am so glad I've stuck with HTC from my beginning with the OG Incredible to the Inc2, to the Rez and now the DNA. People just don't know how good this stuff is.
I've registered for HTC Elevate, but so far no go. You're lucky there, Jay!
Anyway, HTC still makes the best stuff and if they could convince VZW to unlock the bootloaders and give us bleeding edge folks a little s-off love, we'd have just about everything. Glad you've got their ear. Enjoy!
Htc is my top choice for nice design and performance, never had Samsung phone,Motorola is second and lg doesn't appear to me.lg ally was first android.

Can you point to the battery threads you are talking about? I'm getting max 4 hours screen on time, and usually 3.5.
only way to get more would be to turn off data, location, and most other stuff. Kernel is killing the battery on my first unit, and a replacement unit is doing the same.
Thanks.
