From what I've seen its not possible but can you theme an odexed atrix or do you have to deodex first. I have CWM installed so its just a matter of flashing the right .zip am I correct?
I've hard bricked my last phone so I'm just being safe

How do i deodex a rooted Atrix 4g on 2.2.2 1.83 so i can flash vivid lime to it?

Found in dev section of Atrix forums.
thanks very much
I'm new to Android modding so this might be a dumb question. But is there a way to reverse the Deodex process? (ie turning all files back to odex files again like stock)
I believe if you look at the thread deodex bell files from NFHimself he has a backup to restore odex

Hi all
I am a little bit confused?
I got my gf (girlfriend) a motorola atrix from website called PANAMOZ when it arrived I found out it was ME860 (HKTW) not MB860 (ATT 4G)
Some of the stuff was in chinese like keyboard etc etc.
I was going to get her a SGS II same as what I have but she said it was too big for her.
Now the problem I have got is it is running android 2.2.2 and my SGS II is on android 2.3.4
How can I get the motorola atrix ME860 on android 2.3.4?
Do I root it, sbf it via RSD lite, unlock bootloader (if so how),fastboot vol up vol down, etc etc.
I have been reading for 2 days on xda forum and I think I am going to go crazy!
My last moto was the wings! and with my nokia's, HTC, iphones, Blackberry's and Samsung's I have not had any problems updating to latest official or un-official firmware.
So all I would like is some help and support for you guys to get the atrix ME860(HKTW) on gingerbread 2.3.3 or 2.3.4
She is not interested in all types of mods or flashing custom roms every other week!
Just a stable phone that won't let her down and yet be SMART.
Thank you in advance for all your help-advice-tutorials-link
Go to Motorola.com find the atrix and ask them how to update, if your not trying to unlock or root. They should be able to help you.
My overclocked alien atrix
Thank you for your input, I don't mind rooting/unlocking it, its just I don't want to end up bricking it.
I have been reading about using RSD and putting on 1.2.6 then root but when I try that, RSD lite just says fail. When I try the HKTW sbf (4.0.500) it does work but it gives me android 2.2.2 froyo on chinese firmware.
I live in UK and don't mind installing US, UK, EU firmware/sbf its just working out how and in what order I need to do this. I have managed to root it using gingerbreak 1.20apk
your further input is most appreciated thank you.

What happens when you just check for software update in the settings?
If that doesn't work then another option I suggest is to fruitcake up.
1. unlock your bootloader (follow the instructions in the International House of Pudding thread in development).
2. Install RomRacer's Recovery (also in development forum)
3. download the HKTW fruitcake in samcripp's fruitcake thread
4. install fruitcake via recovery you installed in step 2

it lets me update to 4.0.560 chinese version, after updating not much changes still android 2.2.2 froyo.
will have a look a fruitcake
Many thanks
It sounds like you/your girlfriend don't really need to unlock (which may or may not be safe with the ME860, since it is a different device).
What I would do is search for 2nd init and get the 2.3.4 HKTW sbf and use the /system from that build. Unfortunately you cannot flash it directly since it is test-keys signed not signer for end user use. You're going to have to do some digging around to find all the stuff you need. Your other option is to unlock and flash the /system and boot.img through fastboot.
Or you can learn Mandarin / Chinese and surf the HKTW forums to see if they can give you an (un)official HKTW sbf/rom.

Hi there,
I have an Atrix, carrier unlocked phone on the Rogers network running froyo. I would like to upgrade to the latest gingerbread firmware available on the Motorola website. I have a couple questions before I attempt this:
1. Dose it matter which carrier firmware I use, the AT&T or the Bell? If so how do I know which is the correct one to use? Since I bought the carrier unlocked phone off ebay it could be either an AT&T or a Bell.
2. Will the carrier unlock survive the firmware upgrade? Or am I going to have to get my hands on an other unlock code or something?
3. I am thinking about getting a dock so I can use the webtop thing. I have read that there is limits on the webtop based on your data plan. Is there something that needs to be modified to have this work or does the unlocked carrier bypass any of the these restrictions an allow the webtop to work?
Any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks

1) yes it matters. How did you plan on updating? To check what firmware you are on go to settings about phone
2)yes the unlock should survive it gas to do with the sim.
3)The limits for webtop have to do with AT&T and their limits on tethering

Thanks for your response. As for the update I was planning on following the instructions on the Motorola website. Copy the firmware file to the SD card and then select system upgrade.
yeah i dont think that will be a problem, just check what firmware you have
BUT i would reccomend using a custom ROM
Reasons
-they are based off motorolas firmware and are very stable
-tweaked to give better performance
-are deodexed. meaning you can apply themes to your hearts content and really personalize your phone
Hi marko! thanks for your help on this. What rom would you recommend? I am looking for stability and speed, over themeing and customization.

After having tried them all, Nottach's DarkSide is the fastest & most stable. Also ext4. Make sure you do a fastboot wipe before you install it so that you start on a clean system!
Happy flashing!
You don't have an update available via OTA yet?...

So after doing some reading and poking around in the dev forum I think I am going to not bother with the stock Motorola firmware and go straight into a custom rom as you guys have suggested. I have a couple quick questions first, and would appreciate any guidance on the best, safest and easiest way to do this. I have read through the, noob and flashing threads but I can’t seem to find a definitive answer to this.
So since I am running stock froyo, is the install as simple as unlock bootloader, root phone and load on romracers CWM and flash away? Or do I need to worry about gingerbread bootloaders? My understanding is not all roms have bootloaders in them.
OR do I use RSD lite and loaded on the stock 2.3.4, unlocked .sbf file, root phone and load romracers CWM and flash. Which I think this method you can no longer go back to froyo, if need be for whatever reason.
I would prefer to keep the froyo option open, but I am not married to it. Plus I would prefer to do this not using RSD lite as I have had some bad experiences in the past flashing my Samsung cappy with the PC program odin.
Thanks again for your help.
Hey people, I just bought a new Atrix a week ago. It came with "4.4.20.MB860.O2.en.DE" (fw 2.2.2)rom. I found on the internet that it should be possible to update to 2.3.4. But when I try to do the OTA update it says that my system is up to date. So, Is it possible to update my phone to 2.3.4? How? I found a rom called "1FF-olympus_emara-user-2.3.4-4.5.2A-74_OLE-31-release-keys-signed-rtdach.sbf" but Im aware of flashing it with RSD, is there some other way to do that?
PS: I have not roted or unlocked bootloader my Atrix yet..
Thanks everyone!

If you want to upgrade i would recommend to unlock the bootloader and flash some GB based rom like Nottachtrix 1.3.1, those ones are the stock rom but enhaced I'm running right now Nottachtrix because i want everything working.
Otherwise you can get Neutrino, it's an excellent rom too.
About the sbf with RSD, you need to flash the correct sbf otherwise you will get the "failed to boot", so if you are not sure if it is for your phone, don't do it, take the safe way.
Im not sure pretty much about anything since all tutorials, files, etc.. are made for 2.3.4.. I found this post about rooting the Atrix. Should it work? And another stupid questions. Custom ROMs are installed using CWM recovery right? And is it possible to make a backup of my actual rom for applying waranty in the future? And about that sbf im pretty sure that it should work, but I want to hear that from someone that already did that. I just do not want to brick my phone after week of using..
Thanks! M.
