[Q] New to Vibrant - Looking for a complete ROM - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I am new to the Vibrant phones and wanted to see if there is a complete ROM out there. Does not matter if it is on 2.2 or 2.3.
I am looking for everything that works...GPS, 3G ect.
I currently installed Bionix 1.3.1 but only Edge works.
Any help is great because I really do not want to flash each one to see which one works.
T-Mobile USA

If you want everything to work then no GB rom for you. GPS doesn't work yet. EDT roms are always good. I use Bi-Winning most of the time. It's 2.2.1 and I get great performance and battery using it with the Bali kernel. There is a newer Bionix rom, Nextgen. It runs great but I don't get the battery I would like with it. But to be honest most of the Froyo roms all work really well at this point and it is just personal preference as to which you use. So I would try several to find the one you like.

The only issue I have with Bionix NextGen is the force close on open apps when the phone goes to sleep. It actually is a positive in some cases you don't have to back out or hit the home button. When ur done with what ur doing put the phone down and walk away or turn it off(sleep) when you need the phone again ur back at ur home screen! Sweet. But more times than not ur in the middle of something and the phone goes to sleep on its own then you gotta open up whatever you were in again. Does it to everything from games to internet to messaging anything really. The only thing that doesn't close in sleep is calls and music.

Axura is quite nice...
I used Axura for a long time. It had pretty much everything working perfectly. The GPS was hit or miss, but that might've had something to do with my calibrating it inside rather than in an open area. Everything worked perfectly as far as I was concerned, very smooth, snappy and responsive. I was trying to flash CM7 (which is by no means a stable ROM yet) just to see what it offered but I was transfering the .zip through a ****ty USB cable that disconnected about 3 times during the transfer. Needless to say when it died, my internal SD was unmounted and apparently corrupted, nothing I could do with it. Then I got a decent cord, got it to recognize in Odin finally, and attempted to flash back to stock. Odin froze in the middle of the flash and made the phone completely unusable. As in wouldn't even turn on. Not a single pixel would light up. Waiting on a replacement now. When it comes it, I would love to go up to 2.3 but I don't know what the most stable Gingerbread rom is at the moment. Any suggestions on most complete 2.3 ROM thus far. Obviously they are all a work in progress, but which is the most stable currently?

I like Asgard, I dont think its supported here so you'll have to float on over to EDT site to check it out but everything werked for me pretty well except for GPS wich is to be expected but honestly I don't use it that much anyways. That and WIFI didn't seem to werk for me at least. Only the 3G connection. Other than that its all gravy baby! Good luck!

Axura though older rom now......... 2.2 everything works well and amazing battery life
Try Biwinning from EDT this work great and the GPS patch they supply make the gps work as well too
Until we have the drivers for 2.3 no gps, but this will be coming, Like 2,3 but battery life is not as good
So Try Biwinning, Zen-droid, or Trigger they re the top-listers as of today all work great

If you want a complete rom i'd run either Bionix v or Trigger or Bi-winning. I'm currently running trigger and couldn't be happier, everything works perfect. I was a flash whore for a while and im stuck on trigger for the last 3 months, cant find anything to complain about.

Yeah I'd go with the flow on this one! Bionix V is a really good one, Bi-winning is a good one too. Right now I'm running the trigger3.3 beta and I love it. Trigger3.2 is fine though and its stable, not a beta or test version. If you like that gingerbread look you can flash a gingerbread theme over the stock trigger theme. The stock theme is actually really cool though...just an opinion!

Before jumping to CM7, Bionix-V 1.3.1 was the rom i always went back to. if you're having trouble with signal, you should try a different modem - KB1 and KB5 work well for me. The Bali kernel is also great and recommended.
But, as always, try out as many roms as you can to find the one that suits you best. Just about any froyo (2.2, not 2.2.1 so much) rom should have everything working with great performance. \
good luck!

[Q] frankin twiz vs bionix?

I'm about to flash a ROM. which one is better?
They are both excellent, look at the feature list and see which has the core pieces that you are looking for.
I'm running bionix 1.4, and it is by far the best rom out in my opinion. Its very snappy with either kernel. 100000000000000x better than stock and lag is virtually gone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Another vote for Bionix. 1.4 is amazing and Sombionix is a god among men.
I don't always complain, but when I do, I #BlameWes
Try both. Results may vary.
I personally use Frankin-Twiz Update4.
Having flashed just about every rom available here, I lean Bionix 1.4 oc.uv.
It just feels better to me--all the roms are well put together, but it is all going to come down to what you like in your UI and what is on the phone.
They are both great, but I have been using Bionix because I use most of the TW apps which of are taken out on F/T.
Both are solid. I've been using F-Twiz3 for a few weeks, and now F-Twiz4 for a day. F-Twiz3 was very solid, no problems.
Be aware that bionix 1.5 is having bluetooth problems. I and many others simply couldn't get BT to work, so I went with F-Twiz4.
I too am usually a loyal fan of bionix, but i need to have the bluetooth working so currently i am running franken-twiz 4. as soon as sombionix gets the bluetooth fixed though i will be going back over to his rom. of course i wouldn't have any objection to his jp3 froyo rom if it gets swype working better and the market gets fixed.
Thanks guys. I tried both the ROMs out, and really liked them both. But the graphical changes that were made on both ROMs was the deal breaker, and I decided to change my kernel to get the speeds I wanted.
But... to save starting a new thread... I kind of want to replace my stock music player, because I really don't like it.
I searched through the forum, and didn't find much.
Do you guys have any suggestions?
MixZing is pretty good--best I've used so far.

Cubed is the most visually appealing but its not working with my Smartbuds remote so I'm using mixZing.
Vibrant vibrating nicely now,Kthx!

Anyone still using Bionix?

Just curious! I am still using it cause i find it to be the best one still out there, bug proof
Personally and I mean personally the best one was Fusion 1.2 which I just stopped using to switch to Nero Beta 3.
If I was go back from anything it would be back to that rom.
WOW I'm not the only one!
I was flashing something every few days and then I got Bionix and Voodoo. It's beautiful, fast and stable. I figured I'd be flashing something else, but then I got busy and realized that I really like what I have. Som people on here trash talk the Vibrant. I guess they aren't seeing what I'm seeing.
I will probably flash a froyo when things settle down a bit, but I was really disappointed when I saw that it still uses RFS.
Maybe I'll see what happens with the Nexus S code.
Nope you aren't the only one. I too refuse to use anything else, it's great. Speed, bug free & great battery life, what else could you want?
Everytime I think about upgrading and decide on a particular rom, I go into the rom's thread and quickly end up changing my mind. Too many complaints and bugs that I don't feel like living with.
Besides, I don't see what all the fuss is about with Froyo (or Gingerbread for that matter). People act like they're revolutionary upgrades... they're anything but.
Same here, but still on Bionix Fusion 1.1! I never found the heart to flash to 1.2.
Found no need to flash any other ROM seeing as how this does everything I need it to and I don't need to be on the cutting edge. Battery life still gets me through a day as long as I give it a daily reboot.
Will probably end up trying Nero at some point if I ever find some free time.
I think for me Fusion 1.2 was the best and now I'm running Nero 3 beta, which was a tough decision because I had such great reliability in 1.2
Now with Nero Beta 3 I haven't fully seen the battery awesomeness of Fusion 1.2, but man its just so much more fluid. The screen swapping and feel is more refine. It feels more natural to me. When you click on a button it just opens and pretty quick I might add. My lock/unlock seems more responsive. The Status bar seems more responsive. The camera opens up fast.
Apps like NewsRob would take a bit nearly a second or maybe longer to clear all of the unread articles because it had to mark them all as read. With Nero Beta 3 its nearly instant.
Anyways I'm not a spokes person or anything, but as for somebody who shy'd away from all the other versions beyond Fusion 1.2 I'm rather happy with it and worst case I can just flash back to Fusion 1.2 and run a nandroid and be good to go. Ooops, looks like Nero V1 just landed. Time to read what that has in store.

[q] you fav 2.2.1 rom

Would like to know your fave 2.2.1 rom. what neat option does it have that others may not like call recording etc.
second what is it lacking or does it have an annoying but like mms only working if you have your phone numbers in a specific pattern.
Thanks for you opinions and keep on flashing ps this is not a comparison its just what you like and why you like it want to know what others are using and what problems they have with the roms they love
I want to know which one is good too coz there is suddenly tons of new 2.2.1 rom
I can't say enough about (Port)(Rom)(Froyo JS7 2.2.1)Simply Galaxy/Sweet Honey 2.5 (Updated 3/10/11) it has been the one and only ROM that I have stuck with for longer than 2 days. I absolutely love it's quickness, stability, battery life, etc....
it's a keep until 2.3.3 is completely stable and everything works.
I'm running Dead Horse + Darky's 9.3 and my phone just flies.
im going to flash darky or sweet honey tonight i wonder which one will have the least bugs or small inconviences
Running Bionix Frost with Dragon Kernel v5, and everything works great on my phone, even gps. There is very minor menu lag, but everything else is fast. It'll only keep getting better, too.
I'll probably stick here until a fully functional and stable 2.3 is released.

ROM Suggestions Needed

My wife uses a Samsung Vibrant and there are just so many issues with it. Currently, it's on the latest stock Froyo release. It keeps losing all of her home screen icons (using stock TWLaucher) and we have to kill TWLauncher or reboot to get them back. Seems to have lag all over the place. Also, wifi signal strength is poor. The wifi calling app constantly turns off saying the wifi signal isn't good enough.
I'd like be interested in trying out a custom ROM. I've tinkered with some of the leaked ROMs, so I'm familiar with ODIN. I've used CWM on my Droid X before, so I should be ok with that as well.
She's not interested in 100 different themes and fancy icons and fancy features, etc. We are just going to want something that's close to stock with some tweaks that might fix some of the issues we are having. Not interested in partially working ROMs where the GPS doesn't work or issues with the camera, etc. Would like wifi calling to work as well. Need something totally stable. I'm not going to want something that's going to need updating weekly either.
Anything out there that meets what I'm looking for?
Please make suggestions.
Hi, same situation here, my gf has stock vibrant with froyo and many issues...
I've cm7 on my N1 so I considered it for the vibrant but at the moment it have troubles with gps and wifi SO I've searched a lot and the much more stable rom (for me of course) is the projectV, it's based on the official froyo with some tweaks and fixes, seems pretty stable until now
here the topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105037
hope u enjoy it
Agreed with nekobus

I actually had my eye on that one.
It'll improve the lag and losing icons and things like that? I don't need a lagfix on top of that as well?
I'm not doing this for the eye candy (extra lock screens, etc.), I just want things to run more smoothly.
This probably won't help the low wifi signal though, since it's using the same modem as stock froyo, right?
Anyone else want to chime in?
It'll definently improve Lag and that icon problem that you have will not happen. And almost every ROM in here has a Lagfix, so Project-V does have one and will come on when you flash it. (A voice of a robotic women after flashing means that Voodoo is flashing) Voodoo is the name of the Lagfix, which makes our systems run on ext4 instead of the slow RFS system stock that your wife had.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The best thing about Project-V ROM is that its made to be fast and for tweaking, that's why they say they're not competing with Cyanogenmod because it also has both speed and tweaking abilities. So don't worry if you think Project-V is all eye candy, because its both Speed, Stability, and Tweaks!

If anything, I'll probably give this Project V a shot then. My wife will kill me if I F up her phone or cause her to lose stuff.
I flash this with CWM? I don't exactly recall where to get CWM or how to use it, but I'm sure I'll figure that out.
Installing this over stock will be a total data wipe, right? I should back up programs and program data with Titanium first and then restore after?
This does include the lagfix/file conversion? That just happens automatically when I flash this?
Everything works? No serious bugs? I can also flash that wifi calling file in the first post using cwm and then I'll have wifi calling too?
Let's say Samsung releases a 2.3 that's a solid ROM and I want to go back to stock. With this applied and whatever lagfix, file conversion that's been done, how hard would it be to get back to stock?
Anything else I should know?
I've rooted the stock froyo, backupped ALL with titanium and then wiped all from cwm and installed projectV, no problem at all but titanium is required
About gingerbread.... do you remeber the "froyo story" right? I think I seat and wait for the gingerbread version of projectV (or other roms based on official release)! No more stock images in my home please

Yes, wouldn't be surprised at all if there's never an official 2.3 for this. Their 2.2 release was many months behind competing phones originally released around the same time. Still, just want to make sure I understand what I'm getting into here and how hard it would be to get back out. Could I easily get back to the stock froyo that it's on now, if I need to?
I've never did it , but I think u have to odin back to 2.1 stock and then ota (or keys) to 2.2 or whatever

Does the new market that came out this week work fine on this phone?
Before this market, I also had terrible problems updating apps. It was brutally slow and update all usually failed on most apps. I was very surprised that after installing the new market, I was able to do an update all on 20 apps with no problems at all.
My wife had pretty much given up on updating apps on the stock rom.
not yet tried ! But my gf had no problem at all with old and oldest market under tmob, now she's back in Italy, so I've unlocked the sim and still have no issues!
try a few different 1's and see which you like best
I like the bionix 1.3.1 with bali 1.8.7 uv kernel.
i'm not sure about the wifi calling as I dont use that feature.
Tried the new market right now, no proplems as always!

ROMS
As far as which rom you choose is your choice, I am running Toxic Smoke and a lot of people will agree its super quick and responsive but I support almost all roms, Devs here do great work on the vibrant and all should be recognized for it. I may have a solve for your low WiFi signal though..... Have you looked in to the Hardware GPS fix? It involves you opening up your phone and bending a small piece of copper, I did so and put a tiny sliver of credit card plastic under it to keep it from bending back down and now my GPS signal is ridiculous as compared to before. But as I read more there is another copper pin on the opposite side of the phone, that is your WIFI antenna. I then took my phone apart again and did the same thing to that pin and now My WIfI gets great signal. I guess it all depends on how tech savoy you are and how much you want to get into your phone. I know for how much it cost and how much I use my phone I wanted it working 100% so I took the extra time to do all of this and Im quite happy with my Vibrant now. But anyway my specs on my phone are,
ROM: ToxicMusixSmoke
Launcher: Golauncher Pro EX (Which is freaking awesome and free)
Kernal: Bali X (Will increase the responsiveness of your phone ff Overclocked to 1.2 using setCPU, you can download for free on XDA, cost 2.99 or something on the market, the dev offers it for free on here)
+ Hardware GPS Fix and S.gps.zip file for the drivers (You can also find this fine on the Hardware GPS fix post)
I hope this helps as my phone is very stable and I am totally satisfied with my phone as I was not so much at first. I also think with Golauncher you can get stock themes so your phone will look and act just like stock, but run 10000000000000 times better!
I am new to the samsung t959
Any recommendation for ROM? I would like to be as fast as possible, and with a working GPS
I don't mind CM7 as long as it is fastest.
Thanks a million!
]I wasn't looking for fastest.
Just need something to eliminate done of this issues we've had with stock and to be stable with everything functioning correctly.
Project V seems to have done that.
Only issue, so far, is that bloater isn't working and I can't figure a way to get the samsung stock keyboard back. Can anyone help with that?
I like that this rom is so close to stock. If I didn't tell my wife, she wouldn't have even known I changed anything.
While I no longer use it myself, I found Zendroid 2.0.1 with Bali Kernel to be the simplest and easiest to use for a layman, like the average wife or girlfriend
It's extremely lightweight with no bloat to speak of, and battery life is phenomenal (no bloat, no 2g/3g bleeding).
@lexluthor you can use root explorer our similar app to copy the apk to the system/app folder.

[Q] Finding a good ROM

I need help finding a simple working ROM. My wife has this phone, and she has seen me put ROM's and all that on my phone and wants me to put one on hers. Problem is, I need to find one that works (isn't an alpha, works with almost all applications). Any help would be appreciated!
Try SuperClean 3. Basically a tweaked version of Samsung's TW Gingerbread.
Link? Im having trouble finding it

2nd for SC3. I run it with imoseyons lean kernel and have NO issues. Great battery life, fast (2100 to 2300 on quadrant scores), and STABLE!
3Rd for SC. All though cm7 is stable fast and pretty simple to navigate.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Plus you can flash the TW4 addon for Superclean 3 v0.5
Terminators run on Android...
IMO CM7 and MIUI suck for the fascinate, Go with Superclean of GeeWiz ROMs for Fascinate. I'm stable, quick, no glitches, lags, chokes, all apps work flawlessly. after flashes dozens of roms over a period of months.. I am content with my setup.
See sig for links. Good luck.
I would cast another vote for SC3. I was on CM7 since nightly 15 or so thru 112. Loved it, but in my low-signal area the data drop problem was significant. I was toggling airplane mode numerous times a day.
I tried SC3 to get more stable and have been impressed. There's things I miss from CM7 but SC3 is a lot more stable in my case. I'm also running comradesven's kgb kernel.
Another observation is that the EH03 radio works better on SC3 than it did on CM7. I tried it and went back to ED05 which worked best for me on CM7. With SC3/EH03, my data speeds have improved somewhat over CM7/ED05.
YMMV, good luck.
edit: got to change my signature I guess.
If you want a stock like experience without all of Verizon's crap (like you'd get on the Showcase) then I'd go with GeeWiz; it also has great kernels with it. If you want one with a more current and customizable feel, then Superclean3 is hard to beat.
Just my 2ยข worth.

I use JT's vanilla gingerbread
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/1993-rom-vanilla-gingerbread-v81-1108-fascinatemesmerizeshowcase/
It's fast, no bloat, really stable, and it has lots of goodies. can't wait for my phone to get shipped back from repair so I can use it again!!
agreed, go with SC ROM unless you want ICS. Then, for now CM9/JT's builds are the only game in town right now.
Just installed SC. Wow, love love love it! It even somehow fixed the camera lag I was having. Was taking like 1.5-2 seconds to take a photo after press after Verizons last update. Back to near instant again.
I backed up the phone with Titanium, then restored once SC was on. Worked awesome.
