I need help finding a simple working ROM. My wife has this phone, and she has seen me put ROM's and all that on my phone and wants me to put one on hers. Problem is, I need to find one that works (isn't an alpha, works with almost all applications). Any help would be appreciated!
Try SuperClean 3. Basically a tweaked version of Samsung's TW Gingerbread.
Link? Im having trouble finding it

2nd for SC3. I run it with imoseyons lean kernel and have NO issues. Great battery life, fast (2100 to 2300 on quadrant scores), and STABLE!
3Rd for SC. All though cm7 is stable fast and pretty simple to navigate.

Plus you can flash the TW4 addon for Superclean 3 v0.5
Terminators run on Android...
IMO CM7 and MIUI suck for the fascinate, Go with Superclean of GeeWiz ROMs for Fascinate. I'm stable, quick, no glitches, lags, chokes, all apps work flawlessly. after flashes dozens of roms over a period of months.. I am content with my setup.
See sig for links. Good luck.
I would cast another vote for SC3. I was on CM7 since nightly 15 or so thru 112. Loved it, but in my low-signal area the data drop problem was significant. I was toggling airplane mode numerous times a day.
I tried SC3 to get more stable and have been impressed. There's things I miss from CM7 but SC3 is a lot more stable in my case. I'm also running comradesven's kgb kernel.
Another observation is that the EH03 radio works better on SC3 than it did on CM7. I tried it and went back to ED05 which worked best for me on CM7. With SC3/EH03, my data speeds have improved somewhat over CM7/ED05.
YMMV, good luck.
edit: got to change my signature I guess.
If you want a stock like experience without all of Verizon's crap (like you'd get on the Showcase) then I'd go with GeeWiz; it also has great kernels with it. If you want one with a more current and customizable feel, then Superclean3 is hard to beat.
Just my 2ยข worth.

I use JT's vanilla gingerbread
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/1993-rom-vanilla-gingerbread-v81-1108-fascinatemesmerizeshowcase/
It's fast, no bloat, really stable, and it has lots of goodies. can't wait for my phone to get shipped back from repair so I can use it again!!
agreed, go with SC ROM unless you want ICS. Then, for now CM9/JT's builds are the only game in town right now.
Just installed SC. Wow, love love love it! It even somehow fixed the camera lag I was having. Was taking like 1.5-2 seconds to take a photo after press after Verizons last update. Back to near instant again.
I backed up the phone with Titanium, then restored once SC was on. Worked awesome.

I'm about to flash a ROM. which one is better?
They are both excellent, look at the feature list and see which has the core pieces that you are looking for.
I'm running bionix 1.4, and it is by far the best rom out in my opinion. Its very snappy with either kernel. 100000000000000x better than stock and lag is virtually gone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Another vote for Bionix. 1.4 is amazing and Sombionix is a god among men.
I don't always complain, but when I do, I #BlameWes
Try both. Results may vary.
I personally use Frankin-Twiz Update4.
Having flashed just about every rom available here, I lean Bionix 1.4 oc.uv.
It just feels better to me--all the roms are well put together, but it is all going to come down to what you like in your UI and what is on the phone.
They are both great, but I have been using Bionix because I use most of the TW apps which of are taken out on F/T.
Both are solid. I've been using F-Twiz3 for a few weeks, and now F-Twiz4 for a day. F-Twiz3 was very solid, no problems.
Be aware that bionix 1.5 is having bluetooth problems. I and many others simply couldn't get BT to work, so I went with F-Twiz4.
I too am usually a loyal fan of bionix, but i need to have the bluetooth working so currently i am running franken-twiz 4. as soon as sombionix gets the bluetooth fixed though i will be going back over to his rom. of course i wouldn't have any objection to his jp3 froyo rom if it gets swype working better and the market gets fixed.
Thanks guys. I tried both the ROMs out, and really liked them both. But the graphical changes that were made on both ROMs was the deal breaker, and I decided to change my kernel to get the speeds I wanted.
But... to save starting a new thread... I kind of want to replace my stock music player, because I really don't like it.
I searched through the forum, and didn't find much.
Do you guys have any suggestions?

Can anyone here the boards give me some feedback of their experience with either ROM?
I would love to know because I wanna run GB on my lil ol eris and cant decide whether I want vanilla or a tweaked version.

GSB for me
Ever since I first put GSB on my phone (can't remember which version) I haven't moved to anything else. I really love it. I have also been wondering what the differences between GSB and Ginger Tazz are, though...so if anyone has used both - which do you prefer?
I started right with GSB from 2.1. I haven't tried any other roms but in a day ive seen 3 updates. Its nice to have solid support.
Id be interested to see side by side metrics. Id love to see a ginger sense ROM

i great great battery life and my phone is super fast and i havent had one issue
with it since using gintazz.
you should try both and choose for yourself you really cant go wrong
Is it hard to switch between ROMs or same process? Just data +dalvik and flash

Yup just date/dalvik wipe. Act. I font think I ever rid a dalvik wipe with a data wipe, wont hurt though. I switch between Roms a lot. I like to check everything out

I've used both, but I've been with GSB for the most part and haven't tried a recent version of Ginger-Tazz so I can't really give a review; other people seem to love it just fine.
i switched from GSB to v20 ginger-tazz. i like the simple integration with not too many custom launcher add ones. (adw vs launcher pro)
Love ginger tazz its has great battery life, a great thread with awesome ppl and its fast.

I've ran both and have settled with Ginger Tazz. Its very fast and I like not haveing all the CM stuff. Its also small so you have lots of memory left over. Haha.
But ya. I run that with the stock launcher and overclocked at 710 (maybe 729) and it just goes. Battery life it pretty great to and with the v3 update its supposed to be better than before (some people had issues with battery on v2, i stayed on v1 and did well)
EDIT: I wrote this assuming you were asking about GSB and the AOSP Ginger Tazz. If not sorry. But thats your review for those two.
I JUST flashed the AOSP Gingertazz ROM this morning and so far I love it. So far it is noticeably faster than GSB - probably because some of the bloatware is removed. I'll give it a few days so I can add a bunch of my own bloat and see how it goes.
Though I've really loved all the ROMs I've used so far - can't say enough how appreciative I am for the work the devs have done and continue to do to improve this 'end-of-life' Eris! I don't really even think about my next phone anymore since rooting a few months ago.

I've been running GSB since version 2.0 I think. It's been running very well with very few issues, which I suspect wouldn't be happening if I would follow shed's instructions to wipe data before loading each new release. Today, I decided to give GingerTazz a shot. I tried out the current version 22. GingerTazz seems like a pretty solid ROM, but I missed a few of the bells and whistles of GSB and how snappy GSB is, even with all the stuff I've loaded on it. Both of these guys are top notch in my book, and I will pay attention to which phones they and Kaos use to determine which phone I get next. My recommendation, based on my experience and preferences =GSB.
I am currently running CM7 nightlies on my Incredible and it is running flawlessly. With that said, my brothers wife has had a terrible time with her stock Facinate on Verizon. I would like to install CM7 on her phone since I have had such a good experience with it on my Incredible.
How is CM7 on the Facinate? Any issues/limitations? Any certain build or kernel suggestions?
Thanks!
I ran CM7 for about 2 weeks. It's stable, which is a good thing. I like the themes option.. but for me.. it just wasn't fast enough.. don't get me wrong, it's quick and responsive, and it does not lag... my speed concerns is after bootup or reboot... it seems to take forever for everything to load and run right. Also, I found the Market (which is only available via seperate flash) lost it's connection more than once, and I had to reboot several times to get it to work.
This is the main reason I dumped CM7 for the Fascinate. I need my stuff to work.. plain and simple.
I went back to stock froyo ED05 2.2.2, then updated through VZN update to Gingerbread 2.3.5. Then Rooted the phone using superuser.zip below. I ODIN'd CWM Recovery, and flashed SU to root (see attachments) and then flashed the KGB Kernel located here. (The lastest is 12.12, but I don't like it as much as the 11.27 version.. maybe it's the smiley face boot screen that got me)
I couldn't ask for a better setup. Running ADW Launcher EX... smooth as a babies bottom and everything works as it should.
I hope this help you mate.
If she doesn't know what CM7 is I wouldn't install it for her. Last I checked, there are still some issues. Phantom ring is one where you get a loud ringtone in the earpiece after you answer a call every now and then. When I was running it, I had to toggle airplane mode sometimes to get back 3G data. It's mostly very functional but there are little things like that.
For a non power user just go with the EH03 debloated ROM or maybe superclean.
CM7 with glitch kernel v13 runs pretty much flawless for me. Imo its the fastet setup you can put on the fascinate right now(when its setup correctly)...pool party is another good one. I have tried every current rom/kernel and I keep coming back to this setup. I do prefer go launcher ex over the adw, w/ ICS theme. Up until 2 months ago TW was all I ran because mtd roms still had some bugs. Now that MTD is fully functional it was a no brainer to make the switch!

He could also Odin the EH03 based Geewiz (which is a debloat of stock EH03 with nothing added) or flash Superclean 3 which is a debloat + a bit more. Either way he will get a rooted setup nearly identical to yours with a lot less steps and no super slow OTA download. =)
As for your reports on CM7...that is a bit strange. CM7 is almost universally considered faster and more responsive than the Touchwiz releases. Personally, I preferred Sbrisens Pool Party when I used a mtd ROM which can be found over at rootzwiki. And while I'm on the subject of rootz, Awesome Sauce is another excellent Touchwiz based ROM if you would prefer to stay on something gcloser to Samsung's releases.
Thanks for all the suggestions!

I actually took your advice on this one as well. I'm now running CM7.1 Stable with Glitchv13 kernel. It seems to run a lot more stable with the glitch kernel... so far so good.

Not from my experience. I am running the latest nightly and still get phantom ring every now and again. Its a small price to pay for the features added from this great ROM!
I got the phantom ring running CM7.2 RC0, Glitch13.
Have to have Glitch for the in-call volume bug.

+1 mine works awesome Except for the occasional phantom ring

The phantom ring is getting so bad that I'm going to have to ditch CM7. I can't have my phone stuck phantom ringing when on silent during business meetings.
This is ridiculous, someone please help.
As much as I love all the features, it's pretty annoying when a phantom ring goes off in class
Are you guys using the stock kernel or glitch? I honestly don't know if there are any changes in the glitch kernel that would effect phantom rings, but I only had one phantom ring in my time on CM7 (using glitch).
I'm coming from every version of glitch including test. They never went away. Trying CM7.2 RC kernel as my last chance.
if CM7 isnt snappy enough for you i would definitely recommend OMGB, I used that for awhile and it was great.
I'm on TSM Resurrection, with KGB. Amazing battery life compared to stock and CM7. Zero issues so far except BLN that gets stuck on.
I have no idea why CM7 is so pitiful on the Fassy.

cm7 was far from pitiful...cm9 poops on touchwiz.
Yeah but stuff doesn't work like in cm7 the latest gapps don't offer Google voice or voice to text from the keyboard. I believe I had the same issues with cm9... along with lags and freezes. I'd go to cm7 in a heartbeat if I can get the voice text work in SMS. Just imho

I am raising the BS flag on this post! I had TTS working flawless on makelegs cm7.2 skang and have it working flawless on glitched aokp 35.1...matter of fact its worked since the early THS builds.
I couldn't find an answer to this after searching, and I really wasn't sure which is better, so I'm just going to ask.
Eclipse or CM7? Pretty straight forwards... please say why also! Thanks in advance.
You can not go wrong with either one. Both are great and are solid daily drivers. If you need HDMI then eclipse is for you. Cm7 is blazing fast and has so many options for themes and the theme Chooser. But eclipse also has great themer's as well. I would recommended having nano back up of each and go back and forth and see what fits you best. But you will really enjoy both.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I agree, both of them are known to be solid ROM's - each with their advantages and disadvantages...
HMDI I've never even used, and don't plan on it. Many things people have a "problem" with are things that I don't use, such as HDMI, GPS (seldomly use), etc.
Right now I'm flashing Eclipse 2.1.
What I did is run one for a few weeks and get it running how I like. Then nano back up and then try another for a few weeks. Get it like you want and do another back up. At one time point I had several roms backed up. Now I stick with eclipse and cm7. If you have never used cm7 it is something you should run at some point. It is blazing fast and you can customize everything. It will take you weeks to figure out all the settings.
even though I run CM7 now, I would say eclipse is an overall "better" rom in terms of supporting all the phone's features and being stable, like rock solid stable (was more stable than stock motoblur, and a bazillion times faster)
I would definitely call CM7 a beta, it has bugs, you learn to live with them.
My favorite overall so far was eclipse 1.3rc2
Eclipse FTW
I've been on both ROMs recently and I would have to say that they are both superior to any thing else out there. I'm on the latest ROM for eclipse and all I can say is that this is fast... very fast on the DX2. You can't go wrong with either ROM, it comes down to HDMI support and then your preference.
CM7 definitely fastest but went back to eclipse for hdmi, stability and nuance voice control. Still have some problems with eclipse but allot less than cm7. One drawback of eclipse is 2.3.5 kernel, so when nandroiding have to sbf to switch roms.

I use eclipse 2.1 on my X2. I had previously use CM7 for a month before switching. Yes CM7 is much faster, but Eclipse is more stable and has less bugs.
It's all about personal preference.

+100!! I think this is the best option. Try them both out, and back them up. I am running CM7 and love it. Yes, it's lightning fast, but that isn't even my favorite feature. I prefer its customization overall. It has bugs, as a beta will, but I haven't experienced any that are deal breakers for me.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Great deal of help to me (and I'm sure others).
Right now I'm running Eclipse 2.1 (I previously had Eclipse 2.0.2). From what I've seen so far I can notice a speed improvement overall, some updates and GREAT stability; much better than even the stock.
Later on I'll try out CM7, but I'm just worried about all the bugs it has... I'm sure it's nothing, but I'd rather have slightly less performance and stability. Either way, I'm still going to try it out sometime soon. Thanks again for all your feedback.
Also, I'm not into nandroid backups at all.. or any backups. I'd rather do a clean slate EVERY SINGE TIME. I don't have a ton of apps, so I can get it all back, along with my settings very easily. Just and FYI for you all.
EDIT: Also, just to clarify things - along with give people other information; I will be writing a FULL review of each ROM. Note that many of this will contain personal opinions and such, but it will greatly help people overall with info about them.

I felt the same way about sbf and re root not a huge deal but yes extra time. I heard people had luck with 2.04 on 2.3.4. I had to try and all was working well. Have not tried that with 2.1 but do a nano back up first just in case and remember it is not recommended but it has worked for quite a few people just not sure for 2.1.
Miui works on 235/412 and I nanded to cm but did not stay long but wifi worked.
I just got a Vibrant and was wondering if I should roll with Passion, CGM, or AOKP?
I looked into these, but just wanted some more opinions on which one I should install.
I'd prefer to get something that would make my phone faster and have a better battery life.
Good luck! I'm personally too scared to try any of the ICS roms due to the spooky Encryption Unsuccessful bug.
That said, before I read up on that bug, I was going to install the Gummy rom. Seemed kinda cool.

ICZen and Slim are my favorite ICS builds, but with the GPS still having delayed lock problems (even for a Vibrant) I still come back to Froyo for daily driver purposes. If you don't mind a sub-par GPS (which the Vibrant is already infamous for) the ICS ROMs are badass. I've flashed different versions of Slim and ICZen about 15 or so times with their different releases, and I never had a problem with the encryption bug but the more I've read about it the more it worries me.
Fishman (Bionix-V Mod, AOSP, RAZR, among a few) and Moped Ryder (EZ_Ryder, and a Slim version of that) still update and work on Froyo ROMs, plus there are so many "vintage" 2.2 ROMs to give a run it took me about a week of flashing a bunch of them to find what I liked and didn't like. I still almost always settle back on Bionix-V 1.3.1 or Fishman's mod of 1.3.1, but Project-V is another nice one even though it's unsupported now.
I wasn't a fan of the look of Trigger look but the performance was very good, and Go Launcher being integrated into Deranged was a non-started for me. As awesome as Go Launcher is (my favorite freebie launcher), I like my ROMs as barebones as possible so that I can add what I want, but that's just me. Zendroid was another great Froyo build (I think Deranged was built off of it), but, again, something about the look didn't do anything for me but that's all personal taste. You can theme them how you want, but sometimes those don't touch as much of the overall look of the ROM as having them themed from "stock".
I'd say go with the latest iczen if u want stability cool features and great battery life. Plus you will still get support and a great team behind it with lots of cool themes I will try an get u my battery life screen shots once I'm home and on my computer

ICZEN is the one you're looking for.
This may be later than normal, but I've been on ICZen for a long time now...I tried to switch to CM9 but was highly disappointed by that, and went back to Zen... Much more stable, faster, more user friendly interface. Some things that I like that I could NOT go on without were the brightness slider on the drop down menu and the hold back to kill app features... those two alone make this app worth its weight in gold. I've tried six different ones and always go back to Zen Love their stuff!

If you want something new, fast, simple, stock-like, then get Helly Bean. For speed, I used these OC settings that someone suggested to me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30957051
As for the battery life, I had GPS off and Wi-Fi off playing music from Winamp in my car with it for about an hour and it went down from 95% to 82%, if that helps.
Also, I recently flashed the build update from 9/2 to 9/4 Helly Bean and only had to change the LiveOC high and low after OCing with the settings in the link above without losing any files.
For me the CM10 last nigthly is the best.
I will have to try ICZen. I've been running on of the CM9 nightlies (04/29). It was great for quite awhile, but the battery life hasn't been very good the last week or so for some odd reason.
