So I had gone to Odin back to stock and made the mistake of putting the .tar in the "phone" section instead of the "PDA" Section and now it will not turn on. Ummmm I would appreciate any solutions. I'm thinking I may take it to a T-Mobile corporate store and see if I can sell them on replacing it.

You might need to try the jig method to kick off dl mode, but hopefully the bootloaders aren't jacked, and the following might work. If not, try the jig.
-Remove sim and sd cards
-Put the battery back in
-Hold down the volume rocker, both up and down.
-Plug in your phone, usb to pc, it must be to your computer, wall charger won't kick off dl mode
It should launch download mode so you can flash Odin with your files in the correct blocks.
If it doesn't work the first time, pull battery, and try it again. Sometimes it takes a few to get the buttons held down properly. Do not let yourself get frustrated, if you do, walk away for a minute. If that just isn't going to work at all, I do know there is a user on the EDT site selling nice looking jigs he makes, and they are very inexpensive. That might be your last hope to trigger dl mode and reflash if all else fails.

Oh my gosh this actually worked, so the thing I was clearly doing wrong was holding the power button as well when I plugged it in then? Whatever it was thank you so much
I think everyone needs a JIG. Its soo hit or miss for people to push multiple buttons cuz we're all human. A USB JIG takes out the human element. Plus if you purchase one from EDT or TW ur supporting someone from those/these threads which is also a good thing. Glad you got it werking! thanx to @Br1cK'd

Great news! Yep, dl mode is the volume rocker only. Its so easy, we just all panic that first time. I've been there. Believe me that was a sleepless night with brand new Vibrant that wouldn't boot.

Huh Thats interesting and good to know if I ever run into that..... I always hold all 3 (Volume up + down + power) just like to get into recovery. Only with it plugged into PC I get DL mode and not plugged into PC I get recovery. Thats odd, I guess its just different phones

Battery pull your phone then put it back
Plug in the USB
Hold both volume buttons down
THen press power button (while still holding volume up&down)
The screen should pop up with something (vibrant, phone!computer, etc)
Once that happens, let go of the power button (BUT NOT THE VOLUME!)
should get into download mode

I had the same issue yesterday after an ODIN flash failed. On the CM forum, I believe, was instructions, linked in the Vibrant Bible.
1. Pull SD and SIM
2. Plug USB to phone
3. Plug USB to PC
4. insert batter and wait for the icon to come up showing that your battery is charging
5. Hold Vol UP and DOWN, press power, hold power ONLY until the screen goes black, then release.
6. Continue to hold Vol Up and Down.
This SHOULD bring you into Download mode so you can connect ODIN again. Worked for me after a few tries. Don't give up, keep trying (Even though you want to either whack your forehead or throw the phone)
Another way I have seen it listed is to do all of the above until the inset battery part, and skip the waiting to see the battery charging icon. Hold the buttons with the USB connected, then insert the battery with the buttons pressed.
Hope that helps you out, as I know how frustrating it can be to have a soft brick on your hands.

agreed, best method ever!!!! just pretty much turned my day around lol.
I tried to upgrade to froyo using the odin method from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853950. After everything was successfully done my phone shut off and now it won't turn on. I don't get a battery charge screen or anything. The phone's just blank.....
First, Get the Shipping rom (pit and tar files) so you can ODIN back to stock
Be sure you have the newest version of ODIN
Then remove the battery, plug the USB to the PC.
Now put the battery back.
Press both vol keys (up and down) and hold.
That should get you in Download Mode.
If it does not work, take battery out, unmplug USB.
Put battery back and try again to go into download mode.
Now you put the wrong version of froyo, if your keys maps are changed you may be screwed
If so, good luck! You are gonna need a lot of research to see if you can save it

Hehehehe...I bricked mine yesterday. I disabled voodoo via Voodoo Toggle and waited for Linda to convert. I loaded up Odin and put in my pit & tar for JFD, which I always use, and hit start. I was on Nero v3 going to flash Nero v4 when it came out. I got a Fail part of the way through. The phone won't power on at all.....A popup says Windows can't recognize the device plugged into usb...

Well right now I'm simply trying to get the phone to turn on which it won't, I was not asking for help to odin or recover. I was trying to ask if anyone else had this problem and if my phone is totally killed or if there's a possibility that i can save it. But thanks for your 2 cents.

I had ordered Samsung Vibrant Unlocked from T-Mobile USA around a month back. I am well past the 30 day replacement now.
I Rooted it updated to Axura 2.2.5.9
After all the procedure got completed, I rebooted the phone and now it just won't start at all.
My piece is Hardware Locked wherein I can't get into the Recovery Mode, but can get into the Download Mode. But I am not even able to get into the Download mode now.
It just won't freaking turn on.
If I send it over for repair, as the phone is a rooted one, will I void the warranty ?
Please reply quickly. I am starting to freak out.

I got the same issue and this isn't working for me.
are there any other ideas?
it is completely dead. I am using a new battery and a known good usb cable to the computer.
I have tried holding all three buttons...just the vol up and down...vol up and power...etc... and nothing.
I even created that little JTAG thingy that I found on YouTube...that did nothing also

I reset my battery stats and also disabled VooDoo lagfix, and after i tried to reboot the phone, it froze on the vibrant screen.
I tried using soome of the methods that you guys posted before me, but then after i turn it on it shows an icon that there is a connection problem between the phone and PC.
I CAN turn on the phone, is there a way to just like reset everything? and if so how?

If your phone powers on at all, you should be able to get into DL mode. Follow the instructions on how to revert to stock via ODIN.
In reply to the OP, if you tried the download mode method:
connect phone to usb
pull out battery
hold both volume sticks
put in batttery
and the phone still does not turn on even after multiple tries , well you're a bit screwed. But, Samsung cannot detect if the phone has been rooted if it cannot even turn on. Just tell them the Kies Mini update bricked the phone.
omg leave ur phone on charger for 10 min, pull battery out when hooked up to charger put battery back in , let sit for few min pull battery out hook up phone to computer hold vol up vol down pop battery in , helped ? np this has been answered gazilion times in other threads
btw it takes few try this way to get it back up running so dont stop on first , hey .
If you have the phone!pc problem..connect to odin & see if your showing a COM port .... just flash pit & tar if you do. Without download mode

You're talking about a DIY Jig. A JTAG is completely different. They cost $150-300. You can pay to have a local repair shop jtag it for around $50 or send it to Samsung to repair/replace. I'm still trying to find out how much Samsung would charge for the repair if it's deemed out of warranty.
If your phone refuses to turn on no matter what you do and it gets warm or hot if you leave the battery in it, read on:
I hope my suggestion is not too late. I was in the situation before. I tried everything everyone said here and somewhere else. None of them works.
The reason that those methods don't work because you cannot get to download or recovery mode or even the pc-phone screen since your phone won't turn on. The reason that your phone doesn't turn on because the bootloader has been messed up. A jig will work only if your phone can be turned on somehow.
Three possible solutions:
1. Repair or replace it with T-mobile, or
2. Get someone to repair it with a riff box or other similar tool, or
3. Get the box and fix it yourself (not recommended if you are not familiar with electronic stuff.)
This is the link for the same problem you have; this guy bought the box and has his phone fixed himself. If you live in US, he may do it for you if you have no place to go. It does hurt to ask.

Hi all, i am running the latest version of Bionix i went to hit the reboot option and accidentally selected the download mode button. I pulled the battery out before it fully shutdown, me being impatient. When i put the battery back in the phone immodestly turned on and tried to boot, and stays on the vibrant screen for about 2-3 seconds then shuts off and try's to boot back up again on its own. Also when plugged in it continues to boot loop, it never shows that it is charging, only the battery with the loading circle, then ****s off and repeats.
I am not new to modding, and i am not new to getting my phone into recovery or download mode. The problem is the phone does not respond to the hardware keys, and i am positive that it used to be able to reach download mode via keys, i do not have a hardware locked vibrant.
I guess my question lies in the realm of another way to reset the phone, maybe via shorting pins or something? Does anyone know of an alternate method that does not rely on keys or software to reset the phone?

Hold volume up and down
Insert battery while holding buttons
That should work because it will put you in dl mode before it has a chance to boot loop

Please explain.
A jig is a mod'ed usb device that will basically force your vibrant into download mode. Just use the method mentioned earlier....ie
Have odin up and running.
Pull battery
plug in cable
hold vol up and down
put battery in
should get you into download mode. Sometimes it took a few tries with Odin already loaded to successfully do it, but you shouldn't have any issues.

Phone not plugged in at all yet. Battery pull for 10 seconds, put back in, BEFORE plugging in phone, hold volume up button (if this doesnt work try both volume buttons, sorry been out of the Vibrant for a while for my NS) while plugging phone in (still holding volume up button), hold till it throws into DL mode.

I've tried that method, it used to work for me. This soft brick is different than any other I've encountered. The phone has never automatically tried to boot when i put the battery into it, it makes things harder. But thanks and ill give it ago again.
No such luck with the battery method, it still just boot loops. I tried at least 2 dozen times.Anyone want to tell me how to get my hands on a jig?

I think that method with the battery is just referred to as a jig by some people.
I would try the battery method with odin ready to go and without, and sometimes it takes a couple tries.
Also just try holding all the buttons while unplugged, for a long time, then on one of the boot loops as soon as you see anything flicker in the screen release the power button, then try all buttons, then just volume buttons. Sometimes playing with it like that just kinda forces it.
Does odin see it in com port? Do you have correct drivers installed to use odin? Sdk installed as well?

A jig is THIS, it shorts out pins in the micro usb port forcing it to download mode. I am positive i have the correct drivers and the sdk installed right. This isn't the first time I've been soft bricked and i am very familiar with DL mode and Recovery, and how to reach them traditionally. This soft brick is different though for what ever reason. I am going to have to try this jig, and if that doesn't work, i think ill have to read up about the jtag pins on it, if anyone has more information on jtaging a Galaxy S please post!

I hard bricked a vibrant by trying to flash a rom on a low battery. Battery died in the middle of rebooting thus killing my vibrant with no way of recovery (seriously, charged the battery and the phone still wouldn't turn on... at all). Anyway, while trying to fix it, I actually made a jig. It's a lot easier than it sounds. You basically cut the plug that goes into your phone off of the cord down to where you can see all of the wires. Once you do that you break off the plastic shell that covers the plug. You then use a 301k resistor (I couldn't find that exact one so I bought 3 x 100k resistors and a 1k resistor then twisted them together).. plug the usb side into your phone then touch the opposing ends of the resistor onto wires 4 and 5 and it should go into download mode. You don't necessarily have to solder the resistor to the wires but you can. It makes it a bit easier considering you can't touch the wire part of the resistor or the static will mess up the voltage. Otherwise, Amazon sells jigs for a few bucks.
I wanted to post the url for the site that I found useful in making a jig but because I'm a "junior user" I can't. So if you search for "usb jig" on amazon there are a few; if you want to make one google "how to unbrick samsung vibrant" there is an article on factoidz called "How to unbrick your samsung vibrant/galaxy s" which I found to be the most useful.

Failed to replace stock recovery now get only there.
Hi, similar situation please help.
From stock 2.1 I rooted with King root Chinese zip then to go for a new ROM I renamed a cwm zip in update.zip and I read replacing stock recovery..... and saw this cwm just a couples of times, as it revert to stock recovery and doesn't switch on anymore, show grey battery logo fixed when charging, and now after removing the battery for long it goes in stock recovery se2 , cleaned cache and data but nothing change.
Is there please a solution without PC?

I am an idiot and messed up my phone pretty badly. I was trying to restore to stock through Odin and found a one click method that is for the CAPTIVATE. Obviously I didn't notice this until it was too late. Now my phone will only power on with the battery in, and boots to an AT&T world screen but sits there. Nothing happens when I plug in the USB cord whether or not I hold any of the buttons, so I can't get to download mode. I don't have enough experience to tinker with the insides of the phone with a 'jig' or whatever they're called so I don't know what to try next. Is there any hope of this phone ever working again?
Try plugging your USB cord into your wall charger and holding volume down while plugging the other end of the cord into your phone. This seems to have worked for a bunch of people. You can fix this, just hang in there.

I made a new thread because it was a different issue, the other one can be deleted. I just tried what you suggested and had no luck. Nothing happens. The phone doesn't come on at all when plugged into the wall, with the battery in or out. The only way I can get it to come on at all is holding down the power button and doing that with either combo of the volume buttons does nothing but boot to this AT&T logo.
After researching it a little bit I don't think there's anyway to access d/l mode without a jig, so I guess I'll order one. I'll probably stop by the VZW store just to see if they'll replace it but I'm sure they won't and it was no doubt my fault anyway.

I was in that situation too, until I found out that after I my phone crashed therefore doing a repartition, the volume up key was activating the dl mode instead of down key as before. Don't know why it switched but it worked for me

Especially if you aren't using an OE cable.
I've always had the best luck with the DI01 Odin package, for what it's worth. Then just let the updates run to get you up to date.

I'm going to keep it as short as I can, just bought a vibrant and rooted in a nice way, then I tried to use odin to update from 2.1 to 2.2, it did it but then the screen goes black and it doesn't shows anything and when i say anything I really mean it, no battery when I plug it, and no brick message. Then I discovered that I used the wrong image to try and update it the one for the i9000

i tried to put it on download mode, but as i said before it doesn't do anything is literally dead it, i think I'm going out of options i got no idea what to do anymore, PLZ SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME HOPE!!!
Two options
1) Go to radio shack, spend a few bucks and build a custom USB jig that will get you into download mode. The thread is here somewhere in the forums, search for it.

UnBrickable Mod is awesome! It's easier to upload download mode with a click then to hold buttons.

I did one myself, and tested on a friend captivate, but my vibrant still the same NOTHING!, i mean wtf! the only thing it could have is a software/firmware problem but it seems he completely died on me!! :/
I had a bad cable once and had a odin flash go wrong..
Started out with download mode, but with no luck connecting to pc via 2 diff computers (not realizing it was the cable at the time) I kept messing around with it, sometimes connecting, then Odin screwing up again and eventually got to your point...nothing whatsoever, DEAD
After a while...called TMO and ordered a replacement...but didn't give up, I kept on with cable to phone, then pc...vice versa...battery in/out..and eventually out of nowhere it came back on..no idea how..one thing I do remember is reading to use vol up+down, but for me there was some weird combo where I think i started with up+down, then let go of up(kept holding down, or just used vol down)..can't quite remember...but don't give up..again mine was dead dead dead...somehow she came back...keep trying different things no JIG...
EDIT: Take your micro sd out of the phone and sim card too...that much i do remember...

thx for the ray of hope pal but I think i'll just sell ir or something anyway doesn't hurt to keep trying until it happens, i have seen mostly 2 kind of options on internet the buttons combo and the jig tried them both nothing seems to work, I just think i have no luck, i bought the cell and 48h later it was already dead.....anyways thx to the people who bothered to answer me
Options:
1.you can call TMO for replacement.
2. Let the technician open it maybe there's something wrong wid d digitizer
3.Have you heard about the JTAG? It can resurrect your phone!

UnBrickable mod is way better than JTAG. You should check it out. JTAG works once. UnBrickable mod allows software based recovery always and works on a dead brick with no special tools once its applied.
There two videos on the portal now which mention it. I'd like to think people are using it.. after all, this mod doesn't just happen. It takes someone to put in the work to research it... ahem...
option 1
--------
1. remove the sim-card and the memory card
2. remove the battery
3. connect the USB cable to the computer and to the cellphone (still no battery).
4. press on both volume buttons (volume up+volume down)
5.while you press on the buttons enter the battery into the cellphone.
option 2
--------
1. connect the USB cable to the computer and to the cellphone
2. press on both volume buttons (volume up+volume down)
3. press and hold the power button
4. the screen will dim - keep pressing on the buttons (3 of them)
5. the screen will show up the cellphone-computer picture - keep pressing...
6. the screen will dimm again - keep pressing
7. the screen will show up with the vibrant logo
8. leave the buttons - now the cellphone should enter to download mode

sounds interesting i'll try those method anyone mind sending me the links?? btw how am i supposed to connect my phone onto the PC if it doesn't start which means it doesn't get recognized???? and a friend told me that i ****ed the Boot load does it fix that too??
