Atrix bricked during RSDlite flash - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to return my atrix to factory by flashing with RSDlite, i did it exactly as the instructions stated. Once it started i walked away and let it go, it went for hours and when i came back and checked on it, it said it failed. The phone is now left in state that it wont power on. It will get a green light when power is applied. I tried to power on with volume up for rsd, no luck. I also tried with volume down for recovery, no luck either. Any ideas? I left battery out all night and no luck. Computer detects the device when connected.

Plug it into a wall charger for a few hours. Next time dont leave it that long either. Takes like 10 minutes. You should be fine once the battery is charged.

Keep us posted if that works or not.

You stated that your pc still detects the phone. Does RSD still detect the phone? What SBF did you use? 1.26 or 1.57 as there is no full SBF for 1.83 that i am aware of just a 1.83 update. If RSD detects the phone, load the 1.57 full SBF and click start. Should reboot the phone into RSD on its own and continue. once RSD is done you should have a Atrix thats fully booted up and ready to go. Like stated above it should only take 10 minutes or so complete.
Side note: Make sure your screen saver is off and the pc wont hibernate, Ive had my screensaver kick on while flashing and caused a hiccup between RSD and my phone and gave me a nice shiny brick. easily recovered though.Dont have any other programs running that use a lot of pc processing power as well.

Yeah, definitely watch it while it's flashing too. It tells you to reboot it while it's still plugged in then it'll tell you whether it's success full or not after it does the initial boot.
Some people report needing to use a short file name for the actual SBF as well. If you're at this point you're completely in the clear. It's just very nerve racking until you've finally flashed and restarted the phone. You'll be fine but keep us posted.

Since we're on the topic of RSDlite..everytime I try to flash a radio..i get to the part where it asks me to Manual Reboot..and no matter how many times I do it (whether by pulling the battery or just doing a power down) it just sits there telling me to manually reboot. Is there something i'm missing there or have others experienced this as well?

not for me, usually after i manually reboot the phone, it would report as a pass about 10-15sec after the phone was done rebooting

The phone automatically reboots for me, but RSDLite says manually reboot. Just leave it alone at that point and it should reboot on it's own. I have had occasion where it has sat with that message even after reboot, and I can see it has completed the flash, so I just shut down RSDLite ignoring the warnings it throws up. Not good advice I know, but RSDLite does seem to throw you a curve ball sometimes at the end of the flash process.

I get the exact same thing every time I use RSD. It always tells me to manually reboot the phone after RSD itself already rebooted it. I was worried the first couple times. I have flashed multiple atrix's multiple times with the same end result and reboot message so I dont think it really means anything other than telling you it wouldnt hurt to reboot it again manually. If its my phone I just yank the cord and go about my day, if its not my phone I do it for good measure.

When RSD tells you to manually reboot at the end of flashing it means reboot into RSD mode. If you do this, it'll give you the "passed" message. However, as others have stated. It's not necessary to do this since if you make it this far, the flash was successful already.

I have had the "passed" message after the phone rebooting without my manually doing it on a couple of occasions. I have never rebooted into RSD mode after flashing a sbf.

To the OP, the flash was fine but your battery drained. Plug to wall and charge it for a while then turn it on.

Phone ! PC-Can't get past this (bricked?)

Was attempting to flash one of the leaked samsung roms using ODIN. Only way we were able to get phone into download mode as using the ADB command line with ADB Reboot Download.
Odin saw it, we started the process. Seemed to be working, but it got stuck with a black screen for over an hour (when I flashed my Vibrant process to all of 10 minutes). We thought the phone just didn't reset, so we unplugged it and hit the power button...and the dreaded cell phone...!...PC screen came up.
I've tried all manner of trying to get into recovery/download mode with no avail. Again, we tried EVERY combination of button presses to get INTO download mode initially, but only the ADB command line method worked.
Now we cannot get past this screen. Any ideas???
SCREWED!!!! Call TMO and have them send you a new one. Nothing you can do if it is hardware locked.
That's what I was afraid of. That is what he is going to do, glad mine didn't have that happen as that ROM has my Vibrant working like it should (GPS works now!!)
I wonder if having to force download mode via ADB was an indication that this phone would have a problem with flashing anything to it??
Never had a brick as many times as I fooled with my Dash and G1. Guess it was bound to happen sometime.
if the battery pull method won't get you into download mode you're likely screwed...
- Make sure USB cable is connected to PC, but disconnected from phone
- pull battery
- hold down VOL+UP & VOL+DOWN and do not release
- insert battery
- insert USB cable into phone
If after a few seconds download mode appears, release VOL keys...and....you've got download mode...if not, it's safe to say your gonna replace the phone..
If that works, I'd also recommend using Odin3 v1.30 instead of v1.00 that most people use. Available here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790026
Wishing you the best of luck!
Try runnin odin with NO pit or pda file. Ive been at that screen like 100 times, let me kniw what it does
You mean start ODIN and just plug in the phone?

[Q] Soft brick (or worse?)

In anticipation of flashing Eugene's MacNut with GPS working, I managed to somehow got to the point where the phone will now not even boot up. I did a factory reset, "Linda" said "complete", then when I rebooted it did so but then shut off. I was able to get to Odin via reboot download, I flashed back to stock, but when it rebooted it shut off again. Now I cannot get the phone to boot up, either normally or in to recovery. Anyone ever have this experience, and is there any way out? TIA.
New issue...
Good to see that nobody else had this problem. Fortunately I found out how to get into download mode. I may have successfully (maybe?) reflashed stock through Odin. However, when I reboot the screen goes black and the phone turns off. I've spent hours trying to find the exact type of potential issue I have, and none of them get me past where I'm at now. The most promising I found was this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811820
but I am not exactly sure of the sequence: constant "adb push update.zip /sdcard" that I should be doing. Like, how many times do I do this? When I push the power button while in recovery it (obviously) just reboots, which is what it is supposed to do. Am I trying the wrong thing/ in th wrong thread? TIA.
This worked for me, but it re-partitions, so you'll lose your data.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803492
I was also trying to find the instructions where you odin "froyo that doesn't brick" and then odin the original, but I don't see it now.
if you need to get into download mode, use Eugene's method:
pull battery and leave it out
plug in the usb to the phone and the computer
hold volume +/- key
insert battery while holding the volume key

Oh well, so much for the theoretical impossibility of bricking a Vibrant. I did the whole YouNeek fix, no go. It still does the same thing as it has since I screwed it up, it turns on, reboots and then goes black. Oh well, I think I've about had it with Samsung. The screen is awesome, but the OS is just not user friendly. The irony is that when I bricked this thing I took the SIM out and threw it back into my G1, which I have NEVER had an issue with. HTC...
I had the same issue you had, boots, screen goes black but buttons still light up. I posted the fix in a few different threads, one of which I started myself. If you search for threads I've started your fix will be there. You have to flash eugene's "froyo that will not brick" through odin and then flash the stock rom again through odin. Check my thread for a link to the exact instructions. I fix my phone in about 5 minutes once the roms were downloaded and happily shipped my replacement back so I won't have to pay the $20 in shipping

[Q] Flashed with odin on my Bell/Virgin vibrant stuck in a loop

Today was I was watching the video on how to flash darky's resurrection.zip rom,
then zi tried flashing it to my wifes Vibrant , I folloeed the video step by step. I used odin I get the green light saying the phone passed then when it reboots it get stuck on the galaxyi900 screen and it doesnt boot up. Ive flashed the thing with odin at least 10 -15 times after and still no luck, it keeps getting stuck at the opening. My wife says if I dont fix it I have to buy her a new phone. Someone save me please!!!!!!
LMAO........... yeah my wife said the same thing...... sounds like you may have not disabled the voodoo lagfix before the flash.
you will probably need to flash back to stock. I am not sure what is stock on this phone I am going to assume it is the same Vibrant.
If you can get into recovery and you did have voodoo installed disable it. If not you can disable it on your phone and copy the folder and then load it into the internal sd card messed up phone and replace the old folder.
Then you may need to use Eugenes froyo that does not brick as a intermediary flash. if you can Odin that (use Odin 1.7) then when it you flash it do not check the repartition box. When it is beginning to reboot, do not let it fully reboot, pull the battery. Then Redo the Odin as described below:
Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Leave all check boxes the way they are. Check the repartition box.
Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Click the PDA button and select T959JFD.tar and then click Start
When it is done you will be back at stock. Then Root the phone and go from there.
still getting the loop! this phone is jacked up. I can enter download without pressing the power button, cause it turns on and off itself
My phone just keeps flashing the opening Samsung galaxy s gt-i9000
Oh good I don't know the pit or .tar files sorry

take the battery out, wait 30 seconds, plug the usb cable in, and then hold both the volume buttons and slide the battery in. Presto! Download mode.
This has saved me numerous times lol. Then just flash JDF like oka said
i dont have problem entering download mode. When I flash with odin I get a pass on it. but when the phone reboots it stays on the opening screen go on and off
i download the heimdall suite 1.1.1 and the necessary windows program to run it. when i plug my phone into download mode heimdall start button isn't accessable. am i missing something?
figured out hoew to get access to start button, dont use partition. now it gets error on recognizing the device. Im so frustrated right now I need a smoke!!!!!!!

Depends on what you smoke........
You may need the pit 513 file instead of the pit 512 file, these mapping files are a bit different and it may be a cause. Hard to know without seeing the phone
Also you could do a full wipe if you can get into recovery, wipe cache, phone reset and dalvik wipe (in advanced) then try That may work better for you.
It is recoverable.......... and also the best way to get your wife to calm down......... a romantic restaurant with candle light........ you go on Tuesday and she goes on Thursday........
Hope you get it fixed..........
thanks for the support but no luck I tried 513 pit nothing my phone still wont boot up I still get the opening screen then it shuts off and starts again.
im really having a bad day now i tried flashing the stock rom 2.2 with odin now the phone wont even power on! i guess its really a brick. i bought myself a paper weight

Help Please

I somehow messed up my photon. It says failed to boot 2 starting RSD mode. I try to use RSD lite, and flash the sbf and it fails to re-enumration (sorry forgot how to spell it) But when I pull the battery and it boots back into rsd mode I tried to flash derpunlocker and it says failed to boot 0x2004 after it boots back up. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated. (Sorry if I sound dumb)

Is your photon unlocked? Does it show "unlocked" when you turn on your device? You might be able to flash the recovery if unlocked and then flash a rom
No it doesn't say unlocked. It gives me some weird thing when trying to unlock it.
Svf 116:1:2
and then something about sec_exception b655
I will try to take a picture of it somehow to show or get the exact error it is giving me. Because it won't do anything but give me errors in rsd lite.
Sounds like you flashed the electrify bootloader unlock. Double check the file you flashed when you started getting this error.

On rsd lite it says phone did not re-enumerate after RAM downloader was sent. (0x703E)

OK, take a deep breath!!!
I'm uploading zip file you need. Not to insult you, take it, unzip it where you know where it is. (f**k, file too big, get if from Shabby!)
1. (Important) Make sure you charge your battery 100%
2. On PC, bring up RSDLite, upper left side, open that file. After you open it, it should come up in large box on upper right!
3. Holding down Voulme Down Button, power on phone, keep holding both down. You will see "Fastboot". release buttons. press volume down until you see "Android Recovery". Press the power button.
4. You will get triangle with "!" in the middle and little green android dude. Hook phone up to computer.
5. On Phone, Press Volume up and down at same time!
6. On computer in RSDLite, phone will come up in bottom box. click it. You shouldl see in on left next to box in step 2 above.
7. On phone, there is an option to initialize or something, do that. (cannot remember the exact words? sorry)
8. On Computer, upper right of RSDLite, click button to flash or install (again, I cannot remember exact words)
Go get a beer and come back in 30 minutes, all good. I actually came back every 5 minutes and shook the mouse so desktop did not go to sleep!)
Oh, I forgot, do not use USB on front of desktop, not enough power.
Trust me, it took Shabby, Joker, and Deedscreen 2 days to un-f**k me, I know the feeling of having a brick! anything else my e-mail is [email protected] and I got ya!
It gave me an error again. Should i use a desktop instead of a laptop? And does it matter if I have a sd card in the phone?

I left my SD card, nothing on it anyway!
You might want to use Desktop. I was reading somewhere NOT to use USB on front of Desktop, use USB on back because they have more juice? You might have same issue with Laptop? Matter fact, I did have issues with laptop, but I think it was more security with job?
It gave me the same error as before on the desktop. My mom's step brother is going to take a look at it today and might fix it for me. If he does I will post any info on it that could help.
Did you do step 7 of my instructions BEFORE you tried to connect the phone? That, more or less, gets rid of EVERYTHING and prepares for flash. I cannot remember exactly what the wording is, but there are like 10 Options. All of them are blank except THAT one! you need to let that complete before going to RSDLite.
Also, remember, you need a good battery charge!
I was able to fix it by flashing it, but now it is motorola electrify. Appearently i flashed the 235pudding on accident, and thats what messed it up. I do have it working now, but it sucks cause the bootloader is locked and i don't have a custom recovery but for the most part i am happy to have the phone back lol
What if it is not letting you charge nor holding power and volume down just makes it go black screen?

Stuck in bootloop and safestrap won't work

Hi,
I'm new to rooting and modifying and I'm sure I really screwed things up. My main issue is that my Razr is stuck in a bootloop and when I go to use Safestrap to recover it, the utility won't work. I'll try and detail everything I did that led up to this.
Yesterday, I rooted my stock ICS Verizon Razr xt912 using pedrotorresfilho's method. It worked without a hitch. I installed ROM Manager and then Safestrap 2.01. I used Safestrap to install CWM Touch Only Recovery. Part of the directions had me use the SuperSU to set Safestrap to denied after all was said and done. Safestrap created a restore file which I placed in my external sd. After that everything worked like it was supposed to.
Today, I decided to flash a custom ROM, but first I wanted to update to the latest version of Safestrap. I couldn't access it to uninstall the previous version because I had set it to denied. I re-granted its permission. Before I went to uninstall it I decided to go all the way back to stock thinking I probably screwed things up. I never set it back to denied. I rebooted my phone and it went into the startup screen for Safestrap. I hit the menu key, the screen went black as if it was going into the main menu and instead it starts to boot and gets stuck in a bootloop. Every time I hit volume down + power button and reboot the phone it keeps on doing this. I cannot get Safestrap to work so I can recover my phone.
I tried to use the default recovery but that won't work either. Hitting the right combination of buttons only brings me back to the Safestrap menu. I have been looking all over the forums here and elsewhere and nothing is helping. The utilities I have seen won't work for me. I don't care if I have to revert back to factory settings.
I'm sure other people will be more help, but I'll throw something out there. Hold volume down and power until it shuts off then immediately hold both volume and power. It should bout into the bootloader. Select AP fastboot and use mats utility to restore to factory.
Also, don't kill the battery if this doesn't work wake fire me knowable help.

Thanks for the response. I was finally able to get into the bootloader using the instructions you gave me and selected the AP fastboot. Unfortunately, the power button + volume key method wouldn't work and now the battery is dead. I have since plugged it in but now it won't charge and the utility says the battery is too low to run it. Whenever I pull the cable out it gives me the battery symbol with a question mark inside. I'll leave it plugged in over night and hopefully it gives me something.

I saw this method earlier and was hoping I didn't have to go this route. But, it looks like this is my only option short of calling customer service, bs'ing them on why my phone is acting up, and hopefully not get charged full price for a replacement.
Thank you for the help. Next time I'm going to take the time and read up on everything I need to know before I start modifying.
No problem, let me know how it turns out

Update:
I had tried to make my own Motorola Factory Cable but my skills with soldering and such are sub-par so I decided to order a pre-made cable from a Chinese company on Ebay. After a month I finally got the cable today and it works like it should. After going through the steps my Razr boots into AP Fastboot mode. It tells me the battery is okay and is ready for programming. I downloaded the ICS fastboot file and RSD Lite 5.7. When I go through the steps with RSD it loads the files but it won't recognize my device. I repeatedly hit the buttons but nothing shows up. I re-installed it but the same problems persists. If I understood the directions correctly I need the Motorola Device Manager in order to get the USB drivers on a pc (using a friends comp, don't have one of my own atm). I installed it from Motorola's page but when I plug in my Razr nothing pops up. I've tried to find the drivers online but all the links I have found direct me back to the Motorola page. Is there a way to get the drivers without connecting my phone to a computer?
Did I follow the directions right? Is there something I am completely missing?
For a recap. I fubar'd my Razr, it won't charge that is why I needed the "factory cable", battery is okay, but when I connect with either this cable or a normal micro-usb cable the comp won't even see that it is there.
Edit: I was finally able to download the USB drivers from Matt's Razr Utility 1.7 and then RSD was able to recognize my phone. I was able to flash ICS back onto the phone and now I have a fully functioning RAZR. Curious though, I was made to understand that when I flashed the OS that everything would be erased and I would start over. When my phone turned on it brought me back to the state I had it before it bricked. It was still rooted.
