Is there a speed increase on v.6 over v.5?
Yes I think there was a definite speed increase, buts that's me and from what I have read from others it seems to be the same comments from all !!!
Well im newest remix. And with oom fixing from supercharger and the edit I made to minfree script came wit rom. I have no skips and productivity index on smartbench is hovering average 3000.
I also use poweramp buffer set huge and moved to sdcard(( don't think its really on my ext sd card tho ) but all my music stored on class 6 8gb lexar card. I get ONE skip when I open bloat freeze
. Which I only use once in a while lol.
Overall speed is very nice and snappy. I put golauncher ex into system app and removed blur home and(after some other freeze/removal..not much) that jumped my ram up to 240mb free in startup. Which makes all my apps able to stay in memory making my phone very quick.
Still the only thing that always takes a couple seconds to respond after I touch is the damn stock browser. I think I may just ditch it for dolphin hd. I just really like the simplicity usefulness in stock browser. I might get my search on for a better one unless someone has a tip for speedier stock browser response.
Sorry I rambled lol
Try the both and judge for yourself. v6 (blurless) is his best for what I need a phone to do - clean and responsive as hell. Battery was much better in v6, for me.

FYI on the browser, Dolphin HD is nice but if you like something simpler that still has the functionality of Dolphin HD try Dolphin Mini. I love it, all I use. though I do have HD as a 2nd just in case.
Running Road Runner on v6 is blazing.. 15 sec bootup til your doing w/e you want. ONly bad thing bout v6 is you cant data roam
Yeah, I already updated to V 0.6, In my opinion its fastest. I use Zeam launcher because I don't really need a bunch of options and its super fast, I haven't put it in system apps though. I think I'll try that. I also get better battery life. For browsers I use firefox beta (7), its totally redone with performance in mind. I like to use fruit ninja thd as a reference for real world performance, on stock it lags big time if you cut 2 or more fruit at once, with eclipse its butter smooth, most of the time. lol
Hi All,
I am enjoying playing around improving the speed of my touchpad. It is now clocked to 1.7Ghz.
Surprisingly my iPad 1 loads web pages considerably quicker than my over-clocked touchpad (BBC.co.uk is a good example).
Given the hardware improvements this is a little surprising.
I have applied the recommended patches, just wondered if anyone out there has managed to tweak their TP so that it can out perform an ipad 1 for loading web pages?
Would be interested to know your thoughts.
Thanks
Dan
The stock browser is well known for being decidedly average.
Have you applied the download-speed patch amongst the others?
Do you have the caching patch applied? That can make a big difference in the browser speed.

thanks for the response. Been doing some reading and concluded that the webos browser / os just is not optimised for the hardware.
Madness really, A processor that runs almost twice as fast yet cant load BBC.co.uk as quick.
Sort of understand why HP decided to pull out - they have got so much to do to get on par with Apple..
its interesting reading that some say there overclocked TP is as fast as anything out there, i think they are kidding there selves.
Still, I love this new gadget - for £89 I am not moaning.. (but can see why they would never sell at iPad prices)
Thanks
Dan
have pretty much all patches for the browser, but not tried the caching patch. I think there are a couple out there. I will have a play.
Its clear where the performance of this device sits Vs the current competition.... roll on Andriod Port
cheers all

At 1.7ghz your Touchpad is running OVER 2x the clockspeed of the original iPad not to mention that it also has double the cores. The original iPad runs at 800mhz single core. I have made a few videos to dispute some people at Precentral that claim the Touchpad's browser is faster than their desktop computer's and other insane claims like that. All of them have my iPad considerably beating the Touchpad, especially on content heavy sites. Also this is with flash off and disabled on the TP and cache cleared on both.
I have the Touchpad and my girlfriend the iPad2.
- Web surfing speed is much faster on the iPad2 even after tweaks enabled on Touchpad.
- Scrolling is smoother on iPad(2).
- Websites are displayed better and more functional on the Touchpad.
- Some JavaScript intensive stuff (like image lightboxes) runs smoother on the Touchpad, almost as smooth like on a computer. I don't know if all JS things run faster on the Touchpad.
In the end I think the iPad(2) has the better surfing experience for most people.
The web application for the Touchpad just seems badly programmed.
It's the whole OS that's slow, not just the browser. Seems the few remaining webOS' engineer's didn't have the motivation to optimize it.
webOS is a great OS. It's just let down by its speed. If they made it open source, the community could improve it no end.
Is the BBC page filled with flash? The iPad may be loading faster since it doesn't have to load the flash

Someone (not OP) states above that they tested with Flash disabled and cache cleared, and TP still loses.
I can conform the same - TP with patches/tweaks and overclocked to 1.5 GHz is considerably slower than any Android devices I could compare it to (2 phones, 2 tablets). I am actually considering dumping it because it is SO slow, I just can't use it. Try starting up the 3.0.2 stock calculator - it takes a few seconds for it to start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It should be lightning fast! When I need to run a couple of easy numbers, it is quicker for me to do it myself than to wait for the TP to start up the calculator app.
If there is no reliable android port that runs FAST, I consider the $150 WASTED.
Hopefully the browser will be on par with the hardware once we get android. Also i know the touchpad has a slow browser, but i herd it has a much better range than the iPad. As in if you brought the iPad to where your out of wifi range, the touchpad will still work, and work almost as quick as when it was in closer range.
Can't test this out though, my touchpad hasn't arrived yet, but it just shipped 2 days ago, so it should be here soon
I haven't done much browsing on my Touchpad, since the browser really annoys me, but the worst example of the slowness that I have found is loading Engadget.com. I can load Engadget.com and then tap on a story and load that on my iPad before the Touchpad can load the Engadget.com main page.
iPad on the left and Touchpad on the right:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCmUyADNN4w
Here is the Touchpad on the left and the iPad on the right loading Politico.com. The iPad loads the entire page, WITH ADS, before the Touchpad loads a single element without ads. That is pathetic HP.

Forgive the sound in the videos. The Epic4g I used to film is ridiculous at picking up every single sound while taking a video and I had a fan running in the room.
You all (and anyone who owns a Touchpad) needs to install the "disable cache" patch found on precentral.net. It will dramatically improves the browser speed by 40-50%, I'd say. You will need Preware installed to install Internalz pro from Preware. Then Internalz pro will install patch for you. Reboot after patch installs. The most important posts of the thread below are #1, #59 and #85.

One being faster than the other is less as important than one being comfortable with the speed itself. Point being, the Touchpad with the "disable cache" patch makes the browsing experience very enjoyable on the Touchpad. My Volvo 850R is not as fast as a Ferrari but its very fast and fun to drive to me. The patch improves the browsing speed greatly and anyone who has a Touchpad will benefit.

Hello,
I am about to get the G9 80 Turbo as the form factor appeals to me. However I am reluctant due to the 512mb RAM. The only experience I have with HC and memory usage is with the HC roms for gtablet and the memory his been a tad high edging towards 512mb .... I do have a number of background tasks running but nothing crazy.
Anyhow does anyone know if the 1.2ghz turbo still comes with only 512mb - archos isn't too forth coming with this info on the tech spec sheet
Also what are folks experiences wrt to memory usage on the 512mb G9 80... (I'm getting mixed reviews)
Thanks a lot, FredT
As far as I know, the turbo devices are still 512mb. I do experience some lag on my regular 80 at times, but a reboot generally fixes that. I am stock everything, so I haven't tried different launchers to see if that helps with lag. I love this tablet, just wish it had a bit more RAM.
Yea archos are tight arses when it comes to ram Scrooges
G9 80 Turbo rocks?

So I took the plunge and picked up the G9 80 Turbo (1.2ghz). In a nutshell it does not rock.
Archos, why oh why did you not go with 1gb RAM ?
I get it, the price point of this device was key, but I still feel that compromising on the RAM was a mistake and will cause a suboptimal user experience.
Frankly I worry how ICS is going to run on this.... hopefully ICS has optimized memory usage.
At this price I certainly have lowered expectations but the 512MB RAM and the screen ripple (which mine does have) is making me rethink this purchase.
The problem is that I really like the device's form factor and overall make-up, so I want this thing to be successful...
I use my tablet 3 hours a day but only have the basic android apps installed/running: facebook, RSS reader, tweekdeck, tvshow sched watcher and the standard android / google framework stuff... I even turned off the live wallpaper.
...and it still feels draggy overall and painful when switching from say tweetdeck to browser and then back, tweekdeck and/or the browser have to reload data and reset positions. Frustrating...
I now understand why Archos bundled the convenient System Monitor with the Kill All Apps button
Each time I check free memory it shows 50 - 60mb free, I'm going to poke around and see if I can figure out where the memory is going - maybe I can optimize this thing a bit.
Anyhow with all that said for the price I think I am going just keep it to hack around with android and as a GPS tether to phone...
...but I can not see using this as a daily driver.
Which is a big shame as I think Archos is on to something with this device.

Couple of things you can do to get it to run faster are : install ADW launcher EX and Advanced Task Killer, those 2 should get you running a bit better, other thing is, root the device and get the CPU to run 1.2GHz Full blast...
I didn't realize this thing has 512mb. That stinks. I thought the Turbo ones had 1gb like my Acer A100. That's not very Turbo to me. I just re-read a review, said it has 1gb. IT assuredly does not.
I've been using this tablet for about 3 weeks now and it is amazing, you just need to do a few tweaks and it is well worth your money, might not be as "perfect" as other tablets but it is spectacular for under 300€
I do like a lot about it, for the day I had it. Seems as fast as my A100, but I had to send it back due to 2 stuck on pixels. Hope the new one doesn't have bad pixels. I want more storage and battery life than the Acer, the Archos should hopefully do that.
I picked up 2 Flyers recently from Cowboom and one of the first things I did was root and flash a custom rom. After setting everything up how I wanted it, I have come to find that the Flyer is sluggish in a lot of things, like scrolling around, switching apps, opening new apps, etc.
I understand that it's a single core processor but is this normal? I am running the latest LeeDroid rom.
Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Not it's not normal. It may be single core, but it's much faster than most single cores. It's fairly comparable to dual cores, and you can flash an overclocked kernel. Mine isn't sluggish.

Hmmm any recommendations on kernels? I flashed LeeDroid's kernel but haven't tweaked. Should I?
Opening the app drawer is obviously skipping frames, zoom in/zoom out too.. as well as browser scrolling.. extremely lagged.
Overclocking won't fix that. I don't know what you have loaded. Some people put 2000 animated widgets and 200 apps on a tablet, then say,"its laggy". Guarantee there ain't a device on the planet that won't bog down under that. If you are using it in a sensible manner it should be very snappy. The home screens and most of the GUI is rendered by the GPU so overclocking will do very little for you since the GPU doesn't overclock. That's also one of the big reasons that dual core devices don't perform any better. Try removing a bunch of apps and widgets and see how it behaves. If that doesn't work, Id try a different ROM.
Download Advanced task manager
Here is the Link :https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.taskmanager&hl=en
It shows the RAM u got free. When i kill all my apps, i get about 400+ RAM free and then it runs very smooth. It becomes sluggish when you hit the lower 300's. So just kill unecessary apps and you won't have a problem. I supposed you could go back to Gingerbread (it uses less resources) or try a different honeycomb ROM like CoolHoney 3D. If you REALLY want smoothness and can live without the Pen and Camera, you should try the ICS ROMS. They still in developement, but most are functional and very very smooth.

The Flyer is sluggish. I have an Acer Iconia A100 also and it is much more responsive. I think that the culprit is Honeycomb and Sense combined.
Flyer running on the ICS ports is much, much more responsive but those ports cannot be used as daily drivers, IMO, at least for me.
For this reason, I hope either that the ports progress or that we somehow get AOSP ICS.
Honeycomb is garbage and Honeycomb with Sense slows things to a crawl.

I am on LeeDroid with sense stripped.. I'm pretty sure there are still components there, but coming from Samsung products I am not sure how involved Sense is compared to TouchWiz (Samsung's crap).
It's not that the tablet is slow, it is like it just has trouble keeping up sometimes. It's very hit or miss. I guess it's expected from a $150 tablet.
Seems to be personal opinion and maybe experience. I run the stock HC rooted and have no lag , no slow downs, no problems. Other complains of these. I had and sold my Acer A100 because i hated the screen on it. Found the Acer to be slower in almost everything compared to the Flyer. So your mileage may very.

The Flyer is fine for apps. It is the user interface that lags. This is very obvious when compared to the A100, especially now that the A100 has ICS. And, yes, the screen on the A100 is horrible (as is the build quality overall).
Well some people say this and I believe them, but its certainly not universal, and its certainly not obvious on my HC Flyer. I see no lag. Its very smooth and quick. I never had ICS on the A100, but the Flyer was clearly faster for most apps, as it should be with a faster base processor speed.
I'm going to try a different launcher and see if that helps. Are there any recommended HC launchers?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
ADW EX works well, I use it for a pretty display when I do not need anything that Sense provides. There are several others.

The HC notification bar is part of the system, not part of the launcher. You cannot safely eliminate it or replace it. There are some hack apps that hide it, but they can cause compatibility problems.

I believe you may be talking about the extra bar on top that many nonnative apps and launchers add to 7inch hc tablets. Unfortunately you'll just have to look around. I use xeam which allows icons up to the screen edges.
About laggyness: I experienced a huge amount of lag after some rom installs. This shouldn't be the case but leedros rom was very slow even after a couple months usage. I use the senseless hc rom now and its noticeably faster.
If you want to see blazing speed, downgrade and install the CM7 1.1 rom. I would switch in a heartbeat if pen worked properly.
Yeah I use the pen for work so I can't go to GB/CM/ICS, unfortunately
Are there any tablet-oriented UIs out? I do see that new one Chameleon but that's not out yet.. all of the launchers I'm finding are just larger phone launchers, like Go Launcher EX HD, ADW EX, etc.
I thought it was fast until I played with my bothers ipad and my dads playbook. Really smooth scrolling web pages and stuff compared to mine.
The best I managed to do was use setcpu to set the minimum cpu freq to like 800MHz, which helped.

Tell your father to throw anything blackberry related out of the house . Anyway, just install a custom ROM. DeSensified v3 and CoolHoney 3d V4 are the best two i tried so far, if you kill all running apps, you have about 400+ RAM free and only ocasional lag, but not on the UI. Keep in mind that honeycomb uses alot more resources than others and HTC just threw it together in a few min.

You can try VTL Launcher, it's not developed anymore afaik but works fine except for some occasional bugs. It's pretty much what I would want from a homescreen, very customizable, uses ADW icon sets and gives you the whole screen without any wasted space.
I've tried all previews and everytime I had to go back to M, the rom is slow and my N9 is very hot !
I thought it was the previews, but now I'm on final, and I have the same behavior.
Chrome is also verry verry slow and I have to kill if I wan't to use my tablet for something else.
Do you have this behavior on your tablets ?
No, in my case Android 7 is considerably faster than Android 5 and 6.
I get the same problems, plus some apps just decide to crash, last one to crash was Geekbench 3.
Also games are really laggy.
I flash the factory images with fastboot (erasing/formating everything) and my N9 is better now, but I'm still not convice that Nougat is ready for release.
Using chrome still makes the tablet very hot (and laggy).
It may be a chrome issue.
Funny enough i only really started to notice how slow the N9 actually is after replacing my phone with a OnePlus 3.
(yeah yeah it has a snapdragon 820 and is like 50x faster than the N9 regardless)
Overal though I've been noticing a massive degradation in my tablet's performance. Just 2 tabs in chrome is enough to start lagging it out. (Although I have the say the final Android 7 version seems considerably faster then the last Preview 5)
I'm just going to look look for a new tablet now. Because I doubt the problem is just chrome related. There just aren't many clean stock android tablets which is a real shame. But I am never buying a tablet with only 2gb RAM or a dual core again ever in my life.
Mine is pretty poor, im yet to use an android tab thats any good, can't really say its any worse since nougat but its no better either, way way slower than my phone and always has been, really dissapointed to be honest...
For me its like the Ram or processor just can't cope with even the most simple of tasks, mine's stock really considering rooting it and trying a lightweight rom to see if it improves it...
Same here... over time this device starts to get slow, especially when bringing up pages via google now or with Chrome.
Luckily, for me at least, clearing the cache resolves the slowness every time.
Yes, the Nexus 9 is slow on Nougat. Not as slow as the initial Lollipop release but still. The Nexus 9 performance seems totally inconsistent. At times it is blazing fast for an instant and then it starts stuttering. The slowdowns consistently occur when there are filesystem operations, like upgrading apps in the background.
Probaly because of nvidia soc, my nexus 5 is much faster when browsing etc. My nexus 7 was slow too even though its performance was great in benchmarks for its time
Yes. I like the split screen, often on the web with Evernote open. But, it's so slow.
Time for a custom rom?
Performance is much poorer on Nougat. Also seeing crashed. And when idle for a few hours, Wifi disconnects and doesn't reconnect when woke up.
Yes horrible on N, it gets hot and crashes! I don't love Tegra either. I think they are bad chips.
