Will the Optimus V xionia kernel work on our optimus one??? If i screw up the kernel wud i still be able to boot into Amonra2.1 recovery??? Does Recovery work on top of the linux kernel (my guess is -it does coz theres dmesg in recovery mode too)???
I don't think the kernel will work on p500 both devices have different hardware. And yes even if u flash any wrong kernel or rom you can boot into recovery. Just make sure that the kernel or rom zip doesn't have any recovery update in them.

I sent my Optimus V in for service. It was bootlooping with the LG Screen only after using LGs broken update tool. Fortunately for me the repair was covered under warranty. I am wondering if the phone is running the new kernal will I be able to root it because there is no fast boot feature? Does anyone have the Virgin mobile optimus V with the new screen and the V5 Kernal Rev running a Custom Rom Rooted. I don't want end up with another phone out of service. My other Phone is running the V4 kernal and old screen with a Bobzhome Rom what a great build in comparison to the Frayo.
I have the new optimus v with the new screen.
I'm using IHO Recovery built by BobZHome that has a kernel that supports the new screen. It is based off of CWM
For my rom I'm using IHO Mirage based on CyanogenMod 7.2
Here's where I got recovery and rom

Just scroll down to optimus v section. Choose either IHO recovery or Xionia recovery and flash via adb or terminal and then you can flash one of the IHO roms or a rom of your choice via the new recovery

I bought a LG Optimus V online and it boots to a blank screen, it has clockwork recovery mod though. Is there any way I could flash the original VM rom onto it? I need that app suite in order to activate the phone.
Check the stickies at Android central, and Here. . You might wanna change to the IHO recovery first. Idk which V driver you have.

In about phone section.the details about the kernel should be what's installed right, or does it just say version 3.0.8 even when flashing another kernel?
Yea thats where your kernel shud be juss dowload the kernel you want to use and flash via recovery reboot and then check again and u will see the custom kernel

i know, but roms with custom kernels normally show what the kernel is, but it's showing version 3.0.8, even after flashing a different kernel it still shows as 3.0.8. When i flash JB roms it shows the custom kernels. So wondering if it's always going to be shown as version 3.0.8 or not cause i can't tell if the kernel i flash has actually been flashed or not.
Just use CPU spy app. It shows the kernel info

Do you get the features of the upgrade kernel? For instance, custom boot animation or back light notification or over clocking? Then you got the custom kernel.
Sometimes developers forget to change the description. That just happened in Flappjaxxx build #12 kernel.
Thats odd whn i flash a kernel it shows up

Is the recovery included in the kernel or can you also have it exclusive so if you install a wrong rom or what that you still keep the recovery?
i never had an S2 before so i dont know by mine 2X recovery was apart
Recovery is baked into the kernel. Any recovery you flash independently of the kernel will only persist until the next reboot.
Thanks and that also pretty sucks cause by my 2x we had recovery and kernel seperated but thanks

Hey guys , when i try to flash the recovery from the stock recovery , using apply update from ex. Sd (update.zip) he doesn't overwrite the recovery! I followed all the steps from cwm, but it didn't helped . i wanted to flash cwm touch ( the last version) i have allredy rooted the phone using the same method , that worked

Recovery is baked into the kernel. If you flash a recovery separate from the kernel, it will only persist until the next reboot. If you want a specific version of CWM, you're going to need to run a kernel that has it if you want it permanently.
So replace the kernel? , can you give a link ?

Go read the kernel threads in the two development sections.
