Does anybody know what it actually does? Any benefit/harm to GPS tracking/navigation?
does it boosts the signal or Improves gps resection/accuracy?
Its supposed to improve ur gps accuracy but I've found that it just wastes battery and makes my gps worse....see how it affects you and decide
Works fine for me, use it always. I have a launch vibrant with hardware fix performed running Project V with stock KB5 GPS.

I see my Accuracy setting is 50' in LBSTestMode, which I believe is the original default value. What effect does changing this have? One problem I still have with my GPS is that, even though it locks well on the majority of birds, and is generally accurate when navigating, it still wanders when I am sitting still (like at a traffic light). If I increase the Accuracy reading to 100' does that have a benefit, such as the GPS tolerating greater wandering around before it decides I'm moving when I'm not, or what?
Not trying to be mean or anything, but just don't mess around with your GPS settings, you will just make things worse. Leave the default settings along.
The issue is hardware not software, the Vibrant GPS will never be accurate nor will it stop drifting.
You will make things worse by messing around with the default settings.
Good luck.
I've tried a few GPS "fixes" here and there, but I finally just cleared my GPS data and used the Samsung GPS Restore app... Runs better than I remember it running before I started screwing around with my settings. I rarely use my phone for navigation purposes anyway, so maybe I just haven't noticed a problem...
Hope ya find what ya need. -j
I appreciate your cautions, but I'm not doing a lot of messing around in LBSTestMode...I've got all stock settings. I've followed the issue of the Vibrant's flaky GPS issue a lot, and believe it depends on the particular phone: it can be hardware, software, settings, or any combo of these. I happen to have one of the ones that started working well about 98% of the time after the JI6 OTA update.
However, I'm still wondering what difference it is supposed to make whether the Accuracy in LBSTestMode is set at 5', 50', or 5000'. Specifically, what is the interaction of this setting with how the whole GPS system is supposed to function? I've experimented by changing it from like 50' to 100' and then back and can't see that it makes a difference. Does anyone know what the technical implications of this setting are? Thanks.
Question, if i change my modem or kernel does it affect my gps? I swap them around every now and then and sometimes my gps is awesome and sometimes horrible. I know ALL the problems with gps but wondering where the gps files are at. Thanks!!!
I'm wondering if the devs are aware of the accuracy issues with the GPS on GB. The accuracy reading is always 0 and it ruins the accuracy of apps that use GPS. For example, tracking with the Google Navigation isn't as accurate and it sometimes goes past intersections. In comparison, Froyo and CM7 roms have no issues with Navigation whatsoever.
I upgraded from a Captivate because the Atrix was free AND it had a working GPS. I really hope that devs could find a workaround for this issue because as much as I need a working GPS, I don't want to HAVE TO use CM7 for a fully functional GPS because I find landscape hdmi mirroring really useful.
Bump.

I use my phone to track me while I run, and I have been very disappointed with the GPS accuracy of this phone. When I look back at the maps (I use Google My Tracks app), there are obvious mistakes and inaccuracies. Does anyone have any idea if there is specific information regarding the specs of the GPS used in the phone. There are settings I can tweak in the app I am using regarding GPS accuracy, but I need the specs of the phone's GPS to make sure I use the correct settings.
Thanks.
I use MyTracks for my job without issue and is about as accurate as it can get. You're never gonna have pin point accuracy with any GPS phone. It will get you within around 3 meters.
My advice is to make sure the GPS icon in the status bar is on and not blinking. If its not there it's using wireless to best guess your location. I've always had problems with GPS not activating properly with any ROM. Turning GPS off and on or even rebooting is the quick fix.
A good app to test GPS is called "GPS Fix" and its free in the Market.

Thanks dude...
I went out today and it was better than in days past, so perhaps there was some anomaly the last time. I did turn location by wireless networks off with the phone, and I bet that was the biggest difference. I also changed the polling frequency to automatically adjust for best accurracy.

Hey All,
Not sure if ROM makes a difference (I'm on resurrection remix). I suppose it could, but thought I'd ask here to shed some light.
Very odd GPS behavior. I have GPS on 24/7. When I load up any GPS program (GPS Analyzer, Waze, Maps) It tries to grab a GPS location, but absolutely no luck. No indicators in GPS Analyzer either of any GPS catches.
After I toggle GPS once in settings, it works perfectly and flawlessly. Any Ideas?
I'm on 6.0.1

I get the same behavior intermittently on crDroid 6.0.1. I have not figured out how to trigger the loss of GPS, so haven't been able to get a log.

Interesting. I've narrowed it down slightly more. Tested this on mine, if you'd like to test on yours (to see if we're having exact same problem)
It may only occur after a reboot, now that I think about it.
To reproduce)
GPS is in High Accuracy Mode and works fine.
Reboot Phone
GPS is in High Accuracy Mode. Does not work at all.
Cycle GPS in and out of High Accuracy Mode. It now works again.
I will see if it works when I go home later without rebooting my phone or GPS cycling

tested this a little today - tried several reboots, and could not reproduce the issue. now that I'm thinking about it, I can't specifically recall having a GPS failure since I've been on the newest squid2 kernel.
