Yeap. Done. Had issues with Modern Combat 3 lagging in Singleplayer. Hmm, btw, any guides to unroot? Just in case I needa claim warranty
Good man
If you ever need to unroot, in case you have to send the phone in for warranty service or whatever, find your firmware in this thread or if you can't find anything specific to your carrier use the most recent one for your country from here and flash in Odin.
Do a factory reset just to make sure there's no apps laying around on the phone that might tip off whomever repairs it (Samsung) that you've been running non-official firmware on it, and get a jig from eBay to reset the flash counter (do a search for "Samsung Galaxy S2 jig", costs a couple of bucks).
Not sure about the MW thing as I've never played it, hopefully someone else might come along and offer a hand (Maybe change the title of your thread ?).

If theres any award for XDA's most helpful member, think you deserve it. Thanl you so muchhhhh. Really appreciate it
Awwww You're much too kind.
No worries, as long as you read up & follow the instructions for flashing a rom/kernel you should be able to handle things just fine, and given you nailed the CF Root thing first go without any dramas (which is a pretty fair effort, a lot of people who post here seem to have problems with it ), I'm sure you'll ace anything you have a go at

Thanks. Anyway, flashed my official :

Firmware info
PDAXKL3
PHONE: DXKL1
Date: 15/12/2011
Android 2.3.6
MultiCSC Package (GLB, MM1, SIN, SMA, STH, THL, XEV, XME, XSE, XSP, XTC, XTE, XXV): http://www.multiupload.com/AK0TGH6WXX
DXKL3 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/PY2EJTIQ2E

But erm, its still rooted
Flash the kernel on it's own. Hard to say why the kernel didn't take when you flashed the full firmware.

flashed the tar.md5 file. Am i suppose to remove the .md5 and change it to tar?
No. Don't have to remove the md5 bit. If you've tried flashing the kernel on its own in the PDA section of Odin as per my last post, try re-flashing the entire rom.

You downloaded & flashed the "official" firmware as per your post on the first page, didn't you ? If you've already tried flashing the stock kernel as I'd suggested & that didn't unroot your phone, try flashing the whole stock package you downloaded again.

Ok, im on stock rom. What I did was to flash the kernel for root. Firmware wasnt touched. So, erm I have to reflash the entire rom. Any links I can refer to? I'm from Southeast Asia - Singapore
I gave you the links to official firmware on the first page. Yes. I told you how to unroot the phone on the first page with those links :-| I'm not going to tell you which firmware to flash, you should be able to work that one out yourself given you mentioned your original firmware on page one as well.
Hi I was just interested in which way is best to root my device and why.
I broke my last galaxy s2 doing it via odin as I was unable to unroot it.
This time I have done it the superoneclick way and unrooted via ginger unroot app.
Yes I'm a noob and someone if any one answer will have a pop about which thread I should've gone to, but looking around for the last hour has shown bugger all.
I could'nt for some reason unroot with odin and am baffled why.
Any help would be appreciated
Regards Shaun
Root using one of the many root kernels.
Unroot by flashing a stock ROM from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Easiest way just flash CF Root via Odin. Job done simples.
Yes, I'm going to have a "quick pop". Initial search of Q&A forum turned up very similar questions, this is where you should have posted instead of creating a new one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=8243020
Answers are above, including the link with guides.
Hi I did this the first time via odin, but was unable to unroot.
I used an insecure kernal and had the original kernal but when I flashed the original kernal back it was still rooted.
So this may be a silly question but why do I need to flash a rom as some people seem to suggest?
Sorry to sound thick ( I am I guess ) but so much info has really baffled me.
I thought you downloaded an insecure kernal and flashed via odin and that was it, rooted, then if you want to unroot you flash the original kernal, use usb jig and job was done.
Or am I way off lol
Again sorry if I am that bad
Regards Shaun
If you flash back stock firmware, busybox and superuser are removed, so you won't have root access. Also stock kernel as part of the package will instal stock recovery.

The actual rooting process changes (adds) things to the system, that's why you need to flash a "clean" one to unroot.
The unsecure kernels only provide the means to perform the root, they don't do the actual root.
Kernels like CF-Root or mine (see sig) do perform the actual root on boot, but as said above, it involves adding things to the original system.
First and foremost, thank you all for your info it is much appreciated and I mean that.
But I am totally lost and still have a screwed of G2 in the drawer.
I have followed advice to the T and some how I am no better off.
I mean what has firmware and roms got to do with rooting or unrooting.
I just want to get to grips with rooting before flashing firmware or at least someone to say what I did wrong.
On my new G2 I did it via superoneclick is that wrong?

Thats usually in most cases not following the relevant instructions .
This method works but if you cannot understand it then leave your phone unrooted and start reading the Guides and FAQS .
Root + CWM .

Just re-flash official firmware from Intratech's thread [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK1/2/5, KL1/2/3, LA2 Download (mentioned in an earlier post).
Follow his instructions exactly, and you shouldn't go wrong

Flash a fresh/clean ROM like suggested in this thread, that should most definitaly fix that phone and get it back to fully working state.
So just before I do this flashing the firmware, just to make sure you understand!
I do the flashing the firmware as if I was flashing the kernal?
Also I'm on 2.3.4 will it stay as that or will I have to use another firmware for that?
Again sorry if I am getting this wrong and thank you for your patience
Get a USB jig.
Flash your stock rom of choice from the intratech thread.
Flash speedmod kernel or whichever you want to gain root.
PS. You shouldn't be flashing anything if you don't know what your doing.....

The intention is to get the phone in a working state, so you can just about flash any official firmware you like. Your Android version will also upgrade if you flash a newer package.
Good reports about XILA2. May have a few Italian apps on it, you may wish to keep them or uninstall later. You may have to flash a seperate CSC later, or just manually enter your APN.
Follow Intratech's instructions and go for it!
Hello everyone,
I'm new at android and everything so i would love to ask you developers (professionals) some questions.
First of all i would like to root my phone to get ICS but I'm kinda concern that i will lose my warranty. So the question is: "Is there any way to unroot your phone and get it back on official software (ROM)?" so i don't lose my warranty when i need some repairs or something.
Second questions is: "Can a failing at root damage my phone ?".
And third : "Can you recommend my some software, rom, or anything for rooting safely ?"
My spec :
Model number: GT-I9100
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: I9100XXKI1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575467 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
PS: Sorry for my bad English its not my native language.
PPS: Sorry if similar thread exist.
Make sure to ask questions in the Q/A section next time instead of the general.
1. You will lose warranty by rooting. You will have to reflash the stock rom and use a USB jig (you need to buy it) reset the counter. You could also just flash the ICS and flash triangle away which does the same as a USB jig, but its Highly recommened to use a usb jig.
2. Failing to root wont physically damage the phone, but can cause a brick. This phone is fairly hard to brick and it can be fixed by flashing stock roms using odin. (a usb jig can also help in this situation).
3. Flash this for root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Instructions are provided nicely and its rather easy to root with this. You do also have some other options of one-click root if you wish.

Why would you want to root your phone to get ICS? You don't need root to install ICS.
If that's your only reason for rooting, don't.
Official ICS is coming this month, so id just wait for it if this is the only reason for rooting your phone.

Personally if you just want ICS I would just wait until it officially comes out. No need to void your warranty . Word of advise if you do decide you want to root one day ALWAYS look for a method to reverse it.

Nice to hear that this ROM work so well ...
Nice to hear that this Resurrection ROM (and many other) work so well ...
But ... It's simply to difficult and risky for newbies like me (and a lot other i could imagine)
I have decided to wait for official Samsung ICS firmware and maby get root when some nice tool like Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0] (zergRush Exploit) or OneClick Root becomes available ...
And BTW I don't think TouchWiz is that bad at all.
Only reason for me to get root, was getting rid of some Samsung bloatware.
Wow a question in the general section.
I think @Houselegend want to change ROM because of same reason like me. ICS comes out for few days, yes, but in our countries we must wait for our operators to get update. I don't know how much we will wait, but we expect about 2-3 months!
I can't stay more on stock, it's boring and battery duration is very short.
So, if is simple to get back on stock ROM, unroot and reset counter, why not play with custom ROMs?

Sure you can fail.
My recommendation: do your due diligence in research, and make sure whatever you are flashing is meant for your model of phone before doing anything.
#1 reason I've seen for bootloops and bricks is due to people just flashing the first thing they find, which ends up being a firmware meant for a different model of phone.
If you want an easy an almost 100% brick free way to root your phone, download siyah kernel and just flash it through the PDA section of Odin.
That will give you root + permanent CWM
I rooted phone with odin and it's ok but I think there is something wrong with GPS.(Not working)
It start working when I rebooted my phone.
Another thing..Where can I get boot animations ?
I found it (lol) Thanks for everything
Google can be really good friend!
Hi guys!
First of all, I'm sorry if my english sounds wierd, not my main language.
I'm not here to ask witch rom or kernel are the best, just some help.
Recently I got an S2 - GT-I9100 with stock 4.1.2 room. I'm loving this phone, and I kinda like the samsung's rom even tough it consumes a lot of battery. I'm kinda curious about CyanogenMod and using moded kernels, but, I'm kinda afraid of messing up everything and brick my phone. Checked if I had the eemc firmware insane chip and I got it, so it makes me even more insecure of trying out new stuff.
Now for the questions:
I have this phone locked to a carrier, can I still flash it?
Can I flash it even if I have the eemc bug without any problems?
Can you guys recomend a really good newbie guide with each and every step to flash and install a new kernel? (I've looked around this website and the internet, but, those that I find kinda' dont explain everything in an easy way)
I've instaled clockworkmod on my phone, but it says it dosent suport it. why not?
Can I have a custom kernel with sammy's stock room?
thanks in advance.
1) Yes, you can flash custom firmware if your phone is carrier locked
2) Yes, you can flash your phone despite having a chip susceptible to the EMMC bug, which only affects phones running rooted stock 4.0.4 firmware
3) Do not attempt to flash anything to your phone until those guides make sense. Right now they look like they 'don't explain things in an easy way' because you obviously don't know a lot about Android, and in particular this phone. If you take the time to read/learn, the guides very quickly will become easy to understand & you'll know what you're doing. Flashing without knowing what you're doing leads to busted phones & dented wallets.
4) Without knowing exactly what you flashed, I have no idea. If you want to root your phone, there is a thread stickied near the top of Q&A that has all the info you need. It honestly doesn't get any simpler than that thread. If you don't find it easy to understand, as I said above, don't do anything to your phone until you do.
5) Yes, you can run a custom kernel with a stock rom

If you're running rooted 4.0.4 stock & you do a factory reset, there's a fair chance you'll brick your phone. For the technical version, Google/XDA search is your friend.

Hi once more!
Can I ask you for some more help? I read the post about philz kernel, understood what I have to do and I want to thank you about trying to help me. I'm sorry to bother you once more, since I prefer to be certain.
Got the GT-I9100
I got stock 4.1.2
Baseband is I9100BULS1
Kernel version is 3.0.31-88955 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT KST 2013
Compilation Number is JZO54K.I9100XWLSD
So I guess the one that I need to download and install is:
<< 17.04.2013 - PhilZ-cwm6 v4.93.6 with CWM 6.0.3.1 based recovery >>
XWLSD (bootloop fixed)
http://www.mediafire.com/file/4cb3mf...3.6-signed.zip
http://www.mediafire.com/file/q642zb...4.93.6.tar.md5
Also I got SuperSU already installed, this means I have to unistall it and do this or can I install this kernel anyway?

No worries, Im happy to help.
If you already have superuser just download the "tar" file and flash it with odin as thats just the kernal.
Your build is LSD, download that one. which is philz 5.06.1
Your LSD build is quite old, have a look on samfilmware for your region as im sure you should get atleast LSW. Theres also LSZ and MS1 builds out.
Sorry here is the one you need

Sorry for being such a pain in the ass.
Well tbh, this phone is second hand, and the guy that sold it to me, had a custom rom on it but I asked him to flash it back to stock at the time. it came with stock 2.4 or something, but I updated it trough kies to 4.1.2. I looked around samfilmware and I only saw the build I have right now. I dont think I can update it
So I only need to get odin3, put the cellphone in dm, flash the new tar and thats it?

Hi once more, and thanks for everything! Well, I managed to lose my fear of trying it and managed to flash it using the instructions from philz tread. Everything went all right!
I live in portugal, and my carrier is vodafone, I think that the build I have is the most updated one.
Really, thanks for helping me with this!

Your next step is flashing a custom rom Have a look at the link below. Battery life is amazing on this rom.

If you're running rooted 4.0.4 stock & you do a factory reset, there's a fair chance you'll brick your phone. For the technical version, Google/XDA search is your friend.

But the EMMC bug doesn't affect any S II phones with JB roms does it?
Correct (4.0.4 being ICS). Even if you have a susceptible chip, the firmware has to have the bug which causes the chip to be scrambled/corrupted, which means anything before 4.0.4 or anything after (or anything custom for that matter) poses no problems.

I'm at work right now, so I can only do it after work. So I just need to, follow the instructions on the NEAT ROM post to flash it? They dont say how to backup your things tough but I searched in this forum and found how to do it-. So I only need to use the cwm to back it up. Does it back up EFS folder too?
You have been so far a really helpful dude, thanks mate! Was kinda afraid of posting something here, but turns out there is really nice people around here!
Btw if the mods want I can just PM you for some help instead of posting here.
