Flash tool - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the point of a flash tool if you can just flash everything with xrecovery
Sent from my x10i running Cyanogenmod 6

I don't believe you can flash basebands using xrecovery. But I could be wrong there.

Its personal preference
some poeple may not want a ton of folders on the sd card, and prefer to do it on pc where storage is better

There are many reasons. First, they use different types of files. The Flash Tool uses sin files to flash Sony Ericsson firmware, where xRecovery uses zip files to flash custom ROMs while still using the stock kernel and baseband. Second, you can still use the Flash Tool when your phone is bricked, or you can't access xRecovery. You can also use the Flash Tool to rebrand.

Thank you very very very much. All of u.

If u can't update with SEUS, u need to use flashtool for X10, just download the genetic ROM and install it, it's easy, no big deal.
I hope u can do it, cya

You can flash the ROM via xRecovery to get the latest baseband & kernel.
Is in general section, make a little search.
I could install via flash, the problem is that my phone is not recognized by the PC, that includes the flash mode
basically the only thing I can do is use the xrecovery, and acess the SD card.
so I stuck to the baseband version of .49.
anyway I think I found the post about it. Tehouster Thanks!
I found the post but need to install the .sin files by FlashTool anyway = (

You can use xRecovery for the FW, but the kernal needs to be flashed with the flashtool.
this is the post I had seen,
Although I can install the 435.zip with xrecovery
but not to install the 435_FT.zip because this is installed via Flashtool...
By the way, installing only the 432.zip, the baseband becames Unknown and will not recognize SIMCARD

guys at the moment baseband CANNOT BE FLASHED VIA xRECOVERY... u have to use flashtool for it...
only roms/themes can be flashed via xrecovery...
also after flashing baseband u do not need to wipe anything IF you will be using the SAME rom... in case u want to use a DIFFERENT rom only then wipe data/cahe/dalvik...
i am using falsh tool again but this time it stucks on PREPARING FILES FOR FLASHING i am trying to flash the latest ,any help would be nice..
How are you flashing. The baseband should have .ftf extension. Put that ftf file in the firmware folder of your flash tool and then flash and connect ur phone in flashing mode.

Cannot flash any more

I can't flash any rom !!! Well i can but like on achotjans roms when i turn my screen off it doesn't go back on and then goes it sits at the freexperia logo forever ! I tried wolfbreaks it boots up but says fc on google framework i did everything right

can you boot to the xrecovery?
if not
go then to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746 and try to fash one of the orginal rom
rooted then there you go
use this website as a reference for the downloading source
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209749
--------------------------------------------------------------------
if yes
go to the xrec
1 download clean fresh soft from how ever you want
2 move to the memory card
- partition tool
-amount usb
----------------- in case any problem
3 boot to the xrec by pressing back button
4 go to advance option
5 wipe dalvik cache, battery, fix perm
6 go back to main menu
7 factory reset
8 reboot try whether work
-----------------------
if yes great
if not lets continue
extreme option do not turn off phone in steps below other way use Sony ericsson update service or flash tool use the instruction include in the flash toll website.
9 go to partition tools
10 format system, data, cache extremely carefull
11 install custom rom
12 factory reset now you can reboot
13 reboot system
This only my suggestion
discharge
i am not responsible for any damage of phone which can be done by the step above.
edit: if you install many application some of them may have file on the sd so copy your file - your akp, music photo, music, video on your hard drive and format sd card and tried boot up again
because even if you delete data using xrec there will be still some of the rubbish on your sd that may cause the problem on you X10
GOOD LUCK

Whats ur baseband?
Are you on any custom kernels?
Bootloops happens mostly when u mess up these two things.
My suggestion is to start it from scratch (means installing 2.1 and then rooting and flashing 2.3).
Good luck.
Actually that's a problem with that specific rom, flash back a stock rom via flash tool and do another custom rom.
Ok so yeah i can access xrecovery whitout any problem im on z 2.3.3 freex10 baseband 71 using the kernel that comes whit the rom i can restore roms but not flash a rom and make it work damn back to 2.1 --

Which ROM are you trying to flash really? ROMs aren't exactly "flashable" as in via flash tool, flashing a custom rom is actually wiping and installing the files via xrecovery, which xrecovery does both but doesn't say so directing, it just says copying, formatting etc, since no custom rom is made in ftf flash file format but in zip format instead.

You have to choose one at a time, look for all additional hot fixes etc.

[Q] Way to get CWM while on wrong kernel?

This is kind of specific to a certain ROM, but not specific enough apparantly for the mods, so ill try to explain it the best I can.
I'm using J's CM7 (Android 2.3.2 I think) and am using the wrong kernel which normally means you shouldn't be able to boot, but for some reason I'm still able to. Because im on the wrong kernel I cant access CWM. I also have a busted USB port amd can't use Flash Tool to update the kernel.
So, my question is, is there a way to install CWM while on wrong kernel? (Basically meaning I can't see the FXP logo on boot). I can remove my SD card and plug it into a PC to transfer files if necessary.
Secondary question: Is there a way to update the kernel without FlashTool on a PC?
Flash the correct ROM for ur current kernel, atleast u will get a working phone, & there's no way to flash/update kernel without USB cable, u must buy a new one..
Ask the flash tool dev that which are the necessary files for installing cwm recovery
Best way is first install xrecovery using the app if u are on 2.1 kernel or copy the newest files if u are on 2.3 kernel

In Cobratos thread for how to run unlocked roms on locked bootloader there is a file for cwm you can install through xrecovery..

Installing custom ROMs on WT19

I've recently bought this phone and now I'm willing to install a custom ROM (like FXP CM9.0).
I know that before anything I should unlock the bootloader of my phone. I don't care about DRM things, so I could just go to http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and follow the procedure there, right?
After, what should I do? Do I need to install CWM (from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345741) to be able to flash the ROM?
I've read in another topic of this section someone telling the user to follow the procedure of this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613.
That topic teaches you how to unlock bootloader, but can't I just do that using Sony Ericsson's own method?
u should root first before can install cwm

Is not needed.
First, unlock bootloader.
Second, copy ROM .zip file to SD card, install custom kernel, most of them include already CWM.
Third, enter CWM and install custom ROM.
That last topic, it is the same as on official Sony method, but it is brought everything to one app, so you don't need to get the code yourself or use fastboot, just insert IMEI and let the app do it.
Haven't tested myself, so unaware of it.

I didn't look into FXP CM9.0 files. Does it include a proper kernel with CWM to work with that ROM?
Also, FXP recommends users to install "SEMC BASEBAND 64".
Do I install it before using CWM to "install from ZIP" the FXP CM9.0 ROM?
Also, how do I install that baseband? Using Flashtool? Does SEUS already install the latest baseband if I use it to update my phone?
Sorry for so many questions.
Check your baseband version from settings-about phone, 2 last numbers. Not familiar with it, because I haven't used CM, not stable enough for me.
CM includes kernel, it is the boot.img file, already in the zip. Just extract the boot.img, then place zip file to sdcard.
Don't worry about the questions, we all were beginners one time.

So I need to use Flashtools to flash that boot.img (custom kernel with CWM) into my phone, right?
After flashing, I power on my phone and enter into CWM mode to wipe memory and then flash the firmware using the ROM's .zip file that is in SD Card.
Is that the right procedure (obviously assuming that I've unlocked the bootloader before)?

you can use this post as a guide for flashing a custom rom on your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24092702&postcount=10
i personally used the SE Bootloader Unlocking v1.6 by quangnhut123 to unlock bootloader and flash custom kernel
then just copy rom on your sd card
boot into cwn, wipe data, cache partition and dalvik cache.
then install zip file of the custom rom.
reboot. and do another reboot. done.
