How do I Unbrick a tbolt if it was running gingerbread? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay I was just wondering if I was one of the unlucky ones to instal the leak gingerbread Rom and my tbolt gets brick.. ..... Has anyone figure it out how to Unbrick tbolt ...just wondering.. if is possible. To Unbrick if it was to happened

I"m pretty sure it's not possible because the phone resets every three seconds or so.

if there were a solution, it would be posted in the sticky threads in the developers forums.

If it is continuously bootlooping even in recovery, then you are truly fubar. No fix available. No amount of prayer/voodoo/exorcism will raise it from the dead. Donate it to science & send it to jcase. Maybe he can figure out why your phone was affected.

Like sublimaze said, if it bootloops in recovery there is no known fix at this time but you could help everyone out a lot by going to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098363

so this may be a silly question but its not possible to do a battery pull and boot right back into the bootloader? perhaps even keep a stock froyo radio on the root of the sd card incase the worst should happen?

I could have sworn the definition of a brick means it's not recoverable.
If you can recover, then it's technically not a brick.

I also thought that was the case. hence the word "brick" but if its still booting, why cant anyone figure out how to fix it?

The problem is that the phone reboots every few seconds, apparently not leaving enough time to apply any kind of 'fix'.

There is no fix yet but that thread that was linked to previously would probably be your best bet.

bootlooping after fail full ruu rom flash question?

so i tried to flash the full rooted ruu rom via hboot, i had it sitting on my table with the batt door off and knocked it on the floor ( accident ofcourse ) and the batt came out halfway during the process so now it goes into the htc screen then blank htc screen then blank and i cant get into cwr so my question is can i salvage it or am i f**ked?
Have you tried hbooting to recovery? Volume up and power down when the phone boots up.
cant keep it in cwr long enough to do anything, keeps rebooting and when it does go into cwr it says something like cant mount cache i think

+1. That's exactly what would have worked. I know it's too late for the lad now, but for future users...
If you're ever stuck in a boot-loop and can't hboot into recovery, you'll need to copy and past the PGIMG05.ZIP file onto the root of your SD Card. This will be about a 200-400 meg file and would usually be a stock rooted RUU or stock signature RUU. After it's on the root of your SD, make sure it's the only PGIMG05.zip file on there! Then start the phone by holding down power + volume up. This will force the phone to hboot the PGIMG05 file which will get you past the boot-loop.
For some it's a good idea to have insurance too.
You can get a replacement minus the deductible if you "lose" your phone.
Just make certain you call VZW as soon as you lose it.
I don't suggest selling the phone for parts and saying it's lost, but I'm sure others have done this to cover their deductible.
Those without insurance...I have heard people have had great success with warranty replacement when using over the phone support when the phone doesn't boot or bootloops.
Since you send the phone back to VZW by mail, their replacement standards are much lower than dealing with their retail and face to face support.

I'm new to this, just rooted my thunderbolt the week before last (have rooted a total of 4 phones though since and created my own bootimage with sound and everything! lol!), and that's what came to mind when I read the original post but I didn't "know" for sure. Thanks for confirming it. This stuff is fascinating to me. I like to understand what is going on. I'd like to someday write my own rom. Perhaps it's a pipe dream but is there someplace you could point me where I could start my education?

Putting the stock Rom on took the root off of it but didn't fix my boot loop. So I returned it and got a free thunderbolt.

Your the reason Verizon hates rooters you are wasting there money on a device that is out of warranty because you would rather send it back than fix it yourself.

I believe you could start with os kitchen or another UI for extracting certain parts of a rom. I think in large part its knowing java script.

[Q] Bricked my phone little help please

ok so i was running SH 3.9.1 and decided to go back to stock so i odined back to jfd and then tried to update with kies and now my phone will not even turn on anyone have any clue on what i need to do or if there is anything i can do
a)did you flash gingerbread bootloaders? If you so and you didn't flash back the froyo bootloaders before using keis your probally f***** up your phone. Need a jtag
b)if you didn't flash any bootloaders just call tmobile and tell them keis f***ed up your phone
c)you could just lie to tmobile and tell them keis f***ed up your phone
seconded... (holds up blank phone)
same issues here, odined JFD, all was working fine, went to update via Kies, and it completed, rebooted, and did not come up after waiting over a half hour
no lights, can't get to download or recovery modes..
Yes you need a jtag, I recently had the same problem. PM connexion2005 and he can hook you up for $50.

lol yeah i see that now and funny thing is i was actually coming from your rom EB.
The "Kies" effed up my phone has got to be the #1 over used excuse. Probably used more often then it actually does, but IT DOES! so its easy to get by with. I'd have to imagine in this situation its bootloader related. People should honestly fess up when they bork up their own device and pay the fee to get it jtaged. Just my 2cents.
As the old Chinese proverb goes:
"You break, You buy!"
I agree with you on that and it probably was my fault it messed up but im also broke otherwise i would of gone that route
one of these days there gonna catch on
Wow..... you guys.... bootloaders for vibrant are backward compatible..... even still.... you could have built a custom jig for $1.19, some scotch tape, and an old car charger. read the stickies yo.... I've had bad bootloader flashes at least 20 times now with odin and my cheap little jig has me back in dl mode in seconds.

Oh yea there is definitely a worse step than that screen. It's called NOTHING. Literally your phone is worthless at that point without a good JTAG technician. I see it over 100 times a month... . Not trying to be a smarty just letting you know that there are scenarios in which the JIG is worthless and you will need someone to JTAG there phone. Please remember me if it happens to you as I can fix that although I would never wish it upon you...

[Q] How many really "Brick" their GS2's rooting??

I always hear the warnings "rooting can brick your phone" but I was wondering how many have reported truly "Bricking" their phones trying to root?? I have a new GS2 and naturally a bit reluctant to root since it will void my warranty, but I am not a stranger to modding, I had a LG VU and with the help of guys from the LGVU forum I totally modded that phone to do be either a iPhone, Android or Storm looking/acting phone.. It took replacing system files and so on but I always backed up the originals so after 2 years of modding I was able to get the phone back to it factory state easily... The only "Bricking" resulted with LG VU members was due to having little tech sense or reading instructions on the correct procedures when modding..
That said, I felt the risk with the VU was minimal since I purchased it on ebay so there wasn't a warranty issue and more importantly it would have only cost me $100-150 to replace compared to this $500+ phone
My main reason for rooting is to get rid of the AT&T bloat and increase my battery life, a very knowledgeable member from the AT&T forum is also a Senior member/adviser here at XDA and reported increasing his battery life BIGTIME after rooting and making some changes post root.. TIA
If you do it perfectly, back up things you have to and flash kernels safely and absolutely by-the-book, nothing SHOULD happen. I've bricked an old GalaxyS1 by flashing a kernel but if you be extra careful and only get kernels that have been tested and generally, not f**k around, you'll be safe.
READ, READ, and READ some more. The best way to determine if something is safe or not is to really understand *what* you're doing.
What is "rooting" actually doing to your phone? How is it doing it? Answer that and you'll know if it's safe or not.
Spoiler Alert: If you don't do anything stupid, and aren't unlucky, it's perfectly safe.
its actually kinda hard to brick these phones by just attempting to root it. As long as you stay away from bootloaders, you'll be fine.
Buy a jig and go wild.

Yup, the most important thing is:
Do NOT flash anything meant for the I9100. If the package includes bootloaders (many do), it will likely hose your device. Similarly, don't flash the UCKJ1 leak unless designgears has put up a "bootloader-free" version. While it won't brick you, it does eliminate the ability to use a jig to reset your "custom binary count" counter.
Other than that - anything linked to from the first post of a thread in the dev forum should be safe. (although some stuff, such as netchip's kernels, will result in you getting some experience with un-hosing your device with Odin/Heimdall.)
It's next to impossible to brick most Samsung phones, including ours, unless you mess with bootloaders. If you see the files boot.bin or Sbl.bin in a flash package, be VERY wary.

Rooting itself alone won't do anything.
A more aggressive debloating than what AT&T lets you do likely will.

It is along with being all greek at the moment... lots to read and research before doing anything..
As someone who just rooted his sg2 (which I got after getting rid of my iPhone this week), and as someone who had never used an android device previously, rooting was easy as pie.
And by that I mean things will turn out great if you take your time, chose a flavor (research), and follow the recipe (instructions).
I rooted and installed a ROM today. No issues at all. Just don't rush things and be sure to research.

Its not that hard to actually do the rooting and installing of custom roms. Once you get the hang of it, its nothing. The scary thing is that it becomes so easy that you could easily make a mistake and flash a corrupted bootloader and have a big problem on your hands.
Its almost too easy.

Is it possible to hard brick?

This May be a noob question but I'm a little afraid of rooting my amaze and hard brickin it, just happened to my old atrix, so my question is...have u know about any hard brick amaze?

Yes its possible to hard brick it. Every android can be hard bricked

But since we don't have s-off you can't flash the hboot. Haven't seen a single claim to a hard brick on the amaze forums yet..

So let me get this straight, if we never get s-off there's not much chance that we'll be able to brick? This is my first phone running Android, and I've tried out four ROMs and I'm loving it. Now, if I can't really brick my phone without S-off, I feel a lot more comfortable.

you sir, are wrong... since we don't have s-off, we can't hard brick, it's that simple...
also, that's why htc said they are willing to help us unlock our phones, but not achieve s-off, cuz then people who don't know what they are doing might brick their phones and then try to claim a warranty exchange cuz it "broke"
and yet so many people still can't understand why htc won't help us with s-off

It's still a possibility to hardbrick its just alot harder. Flashing any nand chip causes wear. Chip goes bad or gets a bad sector you have a brick. Nothing is impossible anytime you flash non official firmware, including kernels, you run a risk.

Maybe if you completely rewrite the build.prop, you may be able to brick it. I got a warning while editing my build.prop basically saying be careful and I could brick the phone.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
You might brick it. But if you hit in the wall, You will based on my experience. I hit Motorola Atrix when I was angry, and here I go I bought the amaze.
No, because build.prop is in /system, which can be rewritten if corrupted using fastboot/hboot or recovery. As long as the hboot works, you really can't brick. Also, bringing would be unintentionally making the phone useless, which is different from NAND failure.
