Ok so I've been reading these forums and time after time I see posts about the evo 3d being slow and the gs2 just being a beast..am I missing something bc last I checked the 3d hasn't been released yet and the only review I saw was on wirefly the 3d looked very impressive to me. No indication of lag or slow down? I still believe in HTC..I don't think they would release a ****ty or out classed phone..not saying the gs2 isn't sick but I just don't see what makes it so much better..I've seen a lot of quality/screen issues on their forums..
i think the lag they are seeing is based on the governors operation of the a sync cores but there is no doubt that the gs2 is faster
I just don't know how that can be said without the phone being released yet..no one has used it..I think it solely based on the benchmarks which are inaccurate based in the a sync cores..even a gs2 fan can't deny that..

People are basing it on the sensation reviews because they think its the same phone when its not wirefly said it was super fast and smooth so we will see

I sure hope the EVO-3D is on par with the Galaxy S 2 smoothness and lag free, because the Sensation reviews sure make it seem choppy, and just an average phone, nothing spectacular.

Specs are similar. If it is laggy it may be software related. But I don't for see any issues.

Correct with those specs. It should fly..I think the devs will make it ridiculous with a slick custom Rom and a oc kernel

I think GS2 is out in Europe already. Saw a video of it on Phonedog youtube channel.
For some reason people are thinking that this phone is the same as the Sensation even though they are 2 different phones. What they are thinking is: So since the sensation has lag the evo 3d must have lag too. When in reality nobody will know until more reviews hit.
I'm pretty sure any of us prior Evo4G owners are going to be quite happy with the performance of the new Qualcomm dual in here, increase in RAM, Adreno 220 GPU (YES!) and higher screen res. I can't wait for this phone. I love Samsung displays, but I really am not a fan of their handsets for some reason.

What lag? I've watched every video i can and I've never seen lag. no doubt the gs2 is faster? Evo 3D isn't even out yet, not sure you can make a claim like that. (but i think the E3D will beat the gs2 in the end)

Just because the phone isn't out does not mean nobody has EVER used it.
If you do some research you will see people that have used BOTH phones and side by side the GS2 is SIGNIFICANTLY faster in all of the benchmark apps out there. I know that does not mean much, and it is not to say that the EVO 3D will be slow or laggy, but the GS2 *IS* going to be faster stock.
I believe once the EVO 3D gets rooted and we are able to overclock and remove the bloatware it definitely has the potential to outperform the GS2 assuming that the Samsung doesn't get as much development support as HTC phones get. I am getting the EVO 3D, but I am not expecting it to perform like a GS2.
No video says the sgs 2 is faster then the evo 3d there only against the sensation which is not the same phone

The only difference between the Sensation and the EVO 3D that will affect performance is 768 RAM vs 1 GB.
I asked bob at wirefly if there was any lag at all he said no and said its faster then the sensation

That is not true..they use different displays..both qhd yes but different panels..they also have different cameras..and of course the RAM ,those benchmarks.don't mean **** ..I know that people love to brag about there high bull**** quadrant scores but it is useless..honestly I thought the sensation held up very well against the gs2 ..the reviews online were so ridiculously biased I couldn't watch them. The first thing they do is "oh I'm.gonna run some benchmarks here" in Their British accent..in one comparison he was comparing messaging apps and the two apps were basically identical besides one be black background (gs2) and the sensation white..and he was like the gs2 clearly wins here again. Anyways side by side i did not see the epic difference in speed between the two..they seemed to be very similiar running through tasks IMHO..both very fast and smooth..and people act like 3d is no big deal but I think its pretty cool..its easy to call it a gag when your phone can't do it..and its an option u don't need to use it..but I'm sure it will "wow" the friends at work

Is this Samsung Withing (Galaxy S2) a worthy candidate to consider to buy over the 3D ?
Got my upgrade override done yesterday..I want the 3D but maybe I should hold off a few weeks for upcoming Samsung Within ?
Thoughts ?
Seems like the 3D will be the winner because of dev support. Look at the evo vs the epic! Yet another battle between sammy and HTC and devs once again went with HTC.....if you care about custom roms and dev support that is.

Why do people keep doing this? You come to a forum where the majority of us have a 3VO and love it and ask everyone which they would choose this phone or another. This is probably the 48463 thread.

LOL really is that so? What is there to believe when its already a fact. Most if not all the devs from the evo (which had the best dev support I've ever seen on any android phone) already have this phone. I highly doubt they will abandon HTC to move to a SamSuck. Just don't see it happening....sorry

Even if HTC developers don't move to it i'm sure it will have alot more Dev support than older Samsung phones ... which is why i WANT the 3vo but im wondering how much support the Within will get ...
The within only has 320000 pixels (800 x 400). The 3vo has a 960 x 540 resolution which is 518400. You're losing out 198400 pixels -- no thanks. I honestly feel like my EVO 4g looks horrible compared to my 3vo. I think in the long run the 3vo will have great developer support.

Nope.
I did a search before I posted it.
There's about 2 of them and they were all prior to the release of the 3D.
It's a valid question these days, especially with the way devices are being rolled out so often.

Within will have more built in memory and super amoled screen.
Both running 1.2 GHz chipsets.
Within comes with 8 MP camera (2x5MB) for 3D.
These phones are very close and I think whichever phone will have bigger dev support will win.

I understand that you have hope, but just don't see people leaving HTC for sammy. The galaxy s 2 isn't that impressive if you ask me. It feels cheap, like really cheap based on what many reviews said on YouTube; which I can believe because every sammy phone I've felt had that cheap feel i.e nexus, galaxy series, epic etc. This is my look on it: sam has better gpus, HTCs have the better processors (qc). Sammy has better screens, HTC has better design. If you want to take a chance to see if sgs2 will have a much support by all means go ahead but I'm sticking with my 3D.

The within may not even be close to the evo 3d because they are low on super amoled + screens and their custom processor.. it depends what version sprint gets.
I'll be switching only because I've come to really value smartphone camera/multimedia features and HTC provided no upgrade in that dept (amazingly, given its camera is its distinguishing feature). We'll hopefully see by July24 what the devs can do in that dept tho.

I can understand that; me personally im not really in to taking photos on my phone but i must admit ive been taking a bunch of 3D photos lately. Camera isnt a big deal to me but the GPU is; it seems the adreno 220 was the right choice! I think HTC did a great job with the hardware they chose for this device, but i could live w/o the camera buttons and the side charger port lol....
HTC
I've not owned a Samsung in several years however my daughter has a Samsung Galaxy S that I have played with. I just like HTC better, navigation, touch screen feel, menus etc.
I personally would only wait if there was another HTC dual core phone coming soon from Sprint, I'm stuck with Sprint. I chose HTC
One thing is speaking for SGSII that while we spending many many manhours trying to get root Sammy gave the SGS to Cyanogen guys month ago.
That phone has a large support and dev community all over Europe already.
It will come out rooted and ready for CM.
It's a big plus IMHO.
While HTC is just promissing unlocked bootloade Sammy did it without any promisses or big words.

Thank you for that post ...
thats all i really wanted someone to say to me ...
I have been looking for one for weeks and it has been a no-go. i've looked through XDA market, and CL. i dont understand why, ive heard so many people trading back to a atrix from a sensation asap when they tried it. when i ask if they'd trade its usually "no thanks, the sensation is worth more". i honestly dont care about price tag. that doesnt put out how much the device is worth, just what manufactures tag it. especially when atrix has more ram and features. and before i get flamed for even posting this. i want to trade because i care about display and camera over webtop. i take tons of pics and watch netflix alot on the go. i actually liked this display until i watched a couple movies.. i hate the outer glow on the screen and how grainy it can look/washed out. or maybe i should go after another phone?
Reason im posting it here is because i want to hear people who have the atrix or even both opinions. thanks
edit: haha to think i was about to trade.... http://www.htcphones.net/htc-announced-sensation-xe-with-beats-audio/ look at this ****!
I have an ATRIX and I love it ..I actually thought about trading it for a sensation but after watching a review it changed my mind. Its so much faster than the sensation and never lags,..I think it was bad with MOTOBLUR but with a custom rom or the official gingerbread update its simply amazing, only phone I would trade it for is the galaxy s2

edit: dont get me wrong, i LOVE my atrix, best device i have had. i just like to switch things up.. i dont really care for the "big features" of this devices. they sounded cool at first. but not for me

Do you like it though?? about benchmarks or anything of that matter. just everyday use and games/movies, also i love to skype and such. its sad atrix isnt supported. thanks. ive never been big on CM cause its all "stock" it just bores me id rather have eye candy and neat looking things and a camera/gallery with great settings then just.. stock. hopefully ICS has neat things
thats why i love sense. it all great in one package. i havent had my hands on sense 3.0 yet, last android HTC devices i had was the mytouch 4g.

I love my ATRIX, I get around 2200-2700 on benchmarks and in everyday use it never lags, opens applications easily, also the battery is a huge plus, I easily get through a day, I could get it through 2 but i'm used to charging my phone every night. I also think the tegrazone games are fantastic, even though im not a mobile gamer. If you're thinking about trading your phone for the sensation I would wait for any HTC devices coming out in the next few months that may running sense 3.5, or even beats audio, or maybe a Samsung galaxy s2 or nexus prime.

I agree, my old MyTouch barely made it through like half a days usage..would have to charge it around 5 or 6pm, Motorola also always does a great job on radio too
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
lol i know what you guys mean xD i am always home so that isnt an issue, and with radio i have more benefits with the sensation cause im on tmo. the biggest thing i will miss is the nvidia GPU, im huge on nvidia. not so big on AMD adreno... AMD always is lacking something it seems. id be giving up tegrazone for NEON support, that is hard. id probably go for neon support because i play emulators more than anything.. like ps1 games, etc. just getting someone to trade is the problem :[ id love to have a spare atrix though, this phone has been my favorite so far modding. HTC phones have never been that fun for me with modding lol, idk why. alot of people think the guys in the atrix forums are mean, lol. people are worse in the HTC forums.
motorola atrix internal hardware with HTC sensation external would be a dream phone haha.. im never getting a samsuck phone again, after what they did to the people who spent $500 on the behold 2 to f*ck them, seriously. dont mean to sound like a **** but i was one of them who bought it lol. im all for motorola, htc, and id think about getting a xperia if they made a freaking dual core phone and not just overclocked a arc up to 1.4ghz -_-
my brother has a incredible and holy crap that things battery life is horrible!

I'll give you the screen, but my Atrix is in a case so build quality to me doesn't matter as much.
I really think "HTC Sense" is the biggest draw that brings people in. I enjoyed my time with it too.
But whether I had HTC for Android or even Winmo, I never kept a call in any of my questionable dead zones.
If they fixed that and the battery (larger physical battery and in the software) I could see myself going back to HTC again down the road...

that is one big thing, but not completely for me. i have just always had HTC and i most likely always will. i love the form factor, the cameras, the software, etc. only thing that sucks on HTC phones is the speaker, that is horrid haha.
well they did fix the laggyness in the software. the battery is poop but oh well thats one thing that has never bothered me for some reason, unless im camping or something lol.
Will they make another 3d or drop it for the next evo?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
No. Sales weren't so hot for the 3D. The next EVO line will probably have a flux capacitor in it. You know, to mix things up a bit.
Haha maybe in the not so distant future

Lol Would be funny. If market has any say in it, it'll probably have like six cores in it with a display screen too big for its own good.
the evo 3d hardware is already great however the reason why sales aren`t so good is because it is a bit fat and sense 3.0 is not as great as sense used to be, just creating lag whilst adding minimal functionality. people are always saying how bad the snapdragon s3 is but thats because up until now the only phones to have it were sense based. if you look at nenamark 2 you will notice the phone on top is a snapdragon s3 device which scored 10 fps better than the exynos chipset and almost twice as much as the evo and sensation, the difference, software. thats what it all comes down to in the end. i just hope htc finally realises this.
i dunno if its gonna have 3d but check out the htc edge a quad-core phone it will probably become the newest evo .. at least i hope so

I think it was all to do with advertising. I bought my evo 3D from ASDA (aka Walmart) for only £250.
Showed it to people and they were like wow! That's so cheap for a phone that does that (3D). What phone is it? Wish I'd known before I upgraded, etc. etc.
It's as if they didn't know it existed. Even iPhone users were saying the same thing.

everywhere I go , friends ask to borrow my phone to use the 3d photo.
best party trick it does, is wifi to samsung tv's. awsome with the hdmi link when your traveling
I think that what made this phone flop was the absence of support for the 3D functionality.
No websites support this so in a way if you have 3D content you've shot you'll have to enjoy them in 2D which in many cases looks bad because the focus you'll use for 3D is not always the best for 2D.
I believe that a better overall platform needs to be in place before we have another 3D phone.
Nevertheless the 3D was an amazing proof of concept.

In my view, 3D is/was just a gimmick. The best part was that you are not forced to use it!
I don't mind another 3D phone as long as it can be switched off easily--- I just wish HTC start making thinner phones. Almost all handset makers (except the "fruit" one) have slimmer phones.
I've been reading around and I don't understand why people say this phone is getting old. It gas been out for a while, but looking at the hardware this phone has its not far behind any phone. And the 3d isn't that useful, but nice to have and play around with time to time

I just wanted to know what would it take for you to stay with HTC? It seems like most people on here dont like the galaxy s2 but always say that when sprint gets the galaxy nexus there gona get it. Me personally both of my lines are are eligible for upgrades and i passed on the iphone rush and galaxy s2. The 1st evo to me completely changed the way i did and will always look at a phone. Not the iphone or any blackberry but the evo4g. The evo 3d although wasnt as ground breaking still made me a happy htc customer. So i ask....what will HTC have to give us in there next major sprint phone to keep people from jumping ship to the galaxy? For me its basically just ICS and LTE. Possibly a camera as good as the og evo as well. So before anyone says it ill say it cool story bro....stop trolling blah blah blah....i just seriously wana know bc it seems like alot of people are losing faith in HTC
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Stop using ****ty cameras, stop using ****ty screens, use better speakers, change the damn phone design for once. They need to get it, yes the first Evo was revolutionary but that ship has sailed. Change the design on the phones and make them thinner and make sense optional. It wastes too much of the phones resources because of how bloated it is. That happens ill consider coming back to HTC but it's not likely so I probably wont. And FYI the camera in the Evo 4g sucked even more than the one in the 3D does. All their cameras suck that ive used.
Make Sense removable.

They should make sense faster. I'm on mean Rom right now and its blazing fast. I don't see why HTC couldn't have made it as fast as that. And what everybody else says. Camera, screen, thinner. Personally I love sense, but it can be better

Not planning on going anywhere here. Just waiting for the quadcore S4 chip HTC phone to drop for sprint personally. LTE modem being built directly in the die is interesting to me...
though I hear the complaints about camera, but personally I find it suitable for a phone, if they make it better, then so be it.
As for making phones thinner....im not on that boat here. Id rather have them the same thickness and size they are now. Holding those thin iPhones just doesn't feel right in the hand to me. Also when you go thinner you sacrifice the already slim battery life...

Same here brother. I know what this phone is capable of and snatched it when I had my Hero.
I'm just hoping the development last just as long.
Im not to worried about a thinner phone myself because i always put them in big cases like the defender or ballistic. I agree with the speaker comment though....i never realized how bad it was until i heard my friends iphone playing pandora on speaker

An HTC Nexus device.
HTC needs to innovate once again and get rid of the "cookie cutters", which have only slight differences. They should focus on 3-4 models across the board, ranging from entry level to high end.....their should be NO differences in look or features between carriers. This would also force carriers to focus more on improving their networks rather than flaunting that they have a "better" phone, which is what they should be doing.
Major (Android) updates in a timely fashion..... If we get ICS by June....and I do not believe it will be any earlier, that will make a full 8 months since source code was dropped to the open community. It is also well known that manufacturers have the code months before it is granted open source. With the expertise and resources that HTC possesses, 4-6 months is ample time to build and push an update....
Also i was on a service call and had to do service in one of sprints corporate buildings in fairfax virginia. A sprint tech there told me that the galaxy nexus will have face regonizition technology to unlock your phone. Hopefully htc has something similiar

yeah the only thing that might get me to jump the gun early is depending on the details of when we will see quadcore from qualcomm in phones. The current S4 Quadcore chip is the APQ8064 which is paired with the Adreno 320 BUT that chip is geard toward more tablet and mobile computing devices rather than phones.
Reading more and more around it seems the most we will see at lease in the "near future"(this year) is the MSM8960 which is their dualcore S4 but its paired with the Adreno 225...
Think I read the time we'd see even the APQ8064 is around the holidays too. So maybe next year for qualcomm quadcore S4 chips in phones?
The dualcore S4's are real improvement though still having modem's built in the die and getting the improvement there no one else is thus far...
I am in the minority but I prefer sense UI to asop. ICS is no different. However that is a very small deal when it comes to which phone I choose next. I have the EVO 4g and that sold me to get EVO3D on opening day. While I stick with HTC? Sure but only if they make best product to choose from that can be rooted. They best step it up because gIII looking good and all it would take is Motorola to unlock and I'd possibly leave. They have me.....for the moment

That's ICS that has it, not the nexus. ICS just happens to be on the phone.

Those are all things that the Rezound has over this phone. The camera has been quoted to be one of the best available on a smart phone, and it has a higher screen density than the GNex because of 720p on a smaller screen. Design is different as well.
Oh ok....thanks for clearing that up.

Never really had a problem with the form factor of the EVO or the EVO 3D. If I could get the same Sony cam that's in the 4s, better camera/camcorder software, like the 3D aspect, so improve upon that. 1080p recorder. Definitely must be more powerful, so either a quad-core processor or a dual dual-core processor works for me.

I know a lot of you guys are lucky enough to have pre-1.5 hboots. If the next superphone from HTC is locked and everyone has to use the HTC unlock, would you still consider it or jump ship?

I would like to see another htc nexus device... I wonder why Google stopped using htc for their nexus line.... Although I don't think we will see a htc nexus device once the Motorola acquisition is complete.
Uhm...try again. HTC did not make toe nexus devices. Samsung did....fail

I saw this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY7nHi2Lcbg
And it confirmed what I already thought, especially with the benchmarks.
What I'm asking is if through custom roms, overclocking and different apps (maybe opera is better than stock browser) the evo 3d can get near or beat a stock S2 across a number of these tasks.
Referring to the ROMs I mean GSM, but any CDMA input is also appreciated and beneficial to the forum.

If you were to run AOSP on both phones, there is a very good chance you would not notice a difference in performance (real world wise). Overclock a Sense ROM and you'll probably get the same effect as well. But comparing OC'd to stock isn't that fair.
I will 1v1 anyone in any benchmarks and CPU speed... Lulz

How old is that video? I had to unroot my EVO to take the new update to the 2.17 base and I must say it flies. I noticed the difference right away. And I'm talking about stock unrooted. The new base on a custom Rom like Meanrom makes all other roms on the old base feel like crap.

True story.
Benchmarks were worth it during the Evo 4G era, but now, all these phones are so powerful that in the real world you won't see differences. IMO

Where do I mention benchmarks? If you watch the video its most comparing real world speed like opening and panning etc. Benchmarks are still a good indicator of raw performance

Just wanted to point this out.
I dont think its a problem with our cpu or gpu, htc had our phone bogged down, linpack and nenamark2 are so close on both phones stock now. Since the jan update this thing flies.
That video needs to be redone

Ha i did mention them after all! My mistake, but I'm still a firm believer that benchmarks often show the raw performance of the hardware, but it's usually crippled by the supplied drivers and software.
I guess it's because I come from a PC era where benchmarks are a lot more valuable

Mean rom surpasses stock SGSII in IMO. Benchmarks say it even passes GalNex too.

G.nex isn't really considered a powerful phone by any means. Just a elegant phone with an insane display, ICS, and second best development before the International GS2.
I'm running a custom ROM here on my GS2 and it runs better than any Evo 3D ROM I tried. Pretty insane.

Ditto, hate screen protectors and have never used one on my OG Evo and my Evo 3d and have never had a scratch on them.
