What ED01 tar file did you download and where did you find it? I was not aware there was an ED01 tar file that would give you full ROM, kernel, and modem. Best bet would be to ODIN back to DL09 and OTA from there.

i got the ed01 tar from the forums landshark

Which thread? Because I scanned the threads looking for any mention of an ED01 tar in the thread titles and couldn't see any.

Ooops, my bad. I had forgotten about imnuts' thread with the stock ROM and kernel. Is that the one you downloaded? As long as you are reading ED01 under baseband in menu=>settings=>about phone, you can flash that ED01 file in ODIN and you will be good to go. If you have ED03 under baseband, you may need to ODIN back to DL09 in which case you will end up at ED04.
EDIT - and I just read more of imnuts' OP. The ODIN file is rooted, the zip file is not rooted. If the person with whom you are trading is expecting a completely stock phone, you will have to go with the zip file.

yea but where do i put the tar file

in the PDA section. If you are running a voodoo kernel, make sure you go into CWM first and disable lag fix before you flash back to a stock, nonvoodoo kernel.

ok i disabled but if i go back to DL09 what about the modem and **** or is that all in the DL09 all in one package

DL09 ODIN file contains ROM, kernel, and modem. Then you will OTA up to current stock ROM and kernel, and current modem.
If you haven't already started flashing the DL09 file, make sure you are using this one, it is the Verizon one:

power down phone, pull battery, open ODIN on computer, plug USB cable into usb port on computer (preferably in the back by the motherboard), plug phone into usb while holding volume down button. Yellow triangle will appear on phone, far left small rectangle in ODIN will turn yellow, click PDA button, find DL09 tar file, double click on it, hit start button on ODIN. When done, pull usb cord, put battery back in, power up. Skip through setup, go menu=>settings=>about phone=>system update=>check now, OTA's will pop up.

Flash Modem

Could someone send me in the right direction or just tell me do I use PDA or Phone to flash the KA6 modem.bin. I know using PDA is for the Rom.
I'm running KA5 right now and would like to test out the KA6 Modem. Should I just flash the whole KA6 rom since its newer and from reading seems more stable and faster?
Put ka6 modem in pda.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
ok do you have the odin flash modem or the cw flash one.
Ok I have done that, Odin says File analysis, Get pit for mapping, Firmware update start, Modem.bin
It just sits there...
It shouldn't take long to flash a modem.bin

Do you have a froyo rom already installed?

This should be in the Q&A section probably.
According to the superb Vibrant Modem reference page:
Just extract and load into phone section and Flash
Find the modem that uses clock work recovery, put in internal memory, reboot into recovery and flash "zip from sd" and locate your file...
Make sure battery is not low...have fun....

No I don't have clock work. I've Just tryed flashing the KA6 rom and I'm getting the same issue as with the modem. Its just hanging here and not doing anything. If I unplug my phone and try booting it. I get a phone to computer icon on the screen.
I never use odin so not much help...good luck tho...
Now the KA6 rom is going threw.. WTF I have never had a problem flashing before especially with a modem.bin..
you can dl a program called 7zip. you can delete the modem bin in the rom you wanna flash and then replace it with the one you do and it zips it back up and you can flash it that way.
FYI modems are flashed through Phone section in odin....
no pit....
and to the other people.
if his phone froze during odin, he's most likely not going to be able to get into Recovery mode.
so
USE ODIN and put modem.bin in the phone section and flash.

baseband? how to update?

I upgraded to super clean 2.9.2, but baseband shows up as DI01. is that normal, or did mine not update?
Only Odin/Heimdall will work. We don't know where the modem.bin goes, so we can't use redbend_ua or any other recovery-based method.
Modem(baseband) is not included in super clean. You need to update via odin pda button. DL09 and EB01 modems work well with the latest superclean.

oh...so do I just simply flash it through odin as pda? any prerequisites?
Here is a link to the EB01 Modem.
http://www.mediafire.com/?1r7uk6gf8d6s76z
You will need to use ODIN to install this.
Use the PDA button ONLY, navigate to the location of the modem file, click it, then run odin. Your phone will reboot and verify that you have the correct baseband.
If you do not know how to use odin I highly recommend reading this link

...thoroughly before starting with odin.
Good luck!
note* the link to the guide also contains information about flashing the EB01 modem and the same link I have published here!

As long as you use the PDA button and have used odin before you should be fine. Its very straight forward. Just D/L the modem from my link and your good to go!
after I flashed through odin, there seems to be a problem with the battery...?
charge level was 51% before I flashed, but after it showed up as 100% instantly. what's going on?
I don't know the actual cause, but I would assume it has something to do with the battery stats more or less.
You might try turning the phone off and leave it charge over night and in the morning wipe the battery stats (search for this there are plenty of threads! ). Then drain it before charging next time. You should see the battery return to normal.
I wouldn't be to worried about it as I have flashed my phone(stupidly I will admit) at any number of different percentages and I still am getting great battery life.

Since I jumped into the xda forums after eb01 had come out, I've been trying to find a DL09 modem to use with Odin. Seems like most people are going crazy for thew newer basebands, but I've heard that DL09 works great with both GPS and battery life.
That said, you don't happen to have a working DL09 download link that you could toss on here do you?

Thanks dude. btw, the only time i've flashed the modem before was when I first made the jump to eb01 a month and a half ago. Is it ok to just ODIN the modem, or do I have to re-flash a rom after I flash the modem?
*edit* well, I went ahead and odin'd the modem over top of all the stuff I've already got on there. <fingers crossed> Seems to work so far.

Oh yes. I *have* used ODIN several other times, especially for recovering from some sort of boot loop and a few other issues, so I'm very familiar with the PDA button by now. But probably good to have that warning there in case anybody else reads this for help later on.

***READ THIS!!!!!!*** Going from CM7/MIUI/OMFGB to another rom/Unbricking your device

I figured I would put this out there for those who have flashed or are thinking of flashing CM7/MIUI/OMFGB/OMGB or any mtd rom for that matter. If you have flashed one of the aforementioned roms, then you will need to use odin if/when you choose to go to another non-mtd rom. But, you cannot simply use any odin file and there is a particular procedure that is needed to execute this correctly. *Note* This method will also work to unbrick your device from pretty much anything. ***PERFORM ALL OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS WITH THE BATTERY IN YOUR PHONE, DO NOT REMOVE BATTERY***
STEP 1. Open odin (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?73ta726ghelw381) and place the linked file below in the "PDA" section and WAIT. You will need 7zip or the like to extract the tar image from the zip file below. This particular type of odin file is the only kind that I know of that contains the proper bootloaders to re-partition your phone. ONLY THE PDA SECTION!!!!
Link removed. My dropbox account was suspended due to excessive traffic. I'll figure out another place to upload and then post the link.
STEP 2. Then, place this file in the "PIT" section in odin and WAIT.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20070269/atlas_v2.3.pit <---*Atlas_v2.3 Re-partitioning "PIT" file*
STEP 3. And place a check in the "Re-partition" box in odin.
STEP 4. At this point you need to power off your phone. Then, enter download mode by holding the volume down button and continuing to hold it while you plug the cable into your phone, you should then see a yellow "downloading" screen popup. If/when this happens, go to step 5.
STEP 5. When you have done the first 4 STEPS, THEN hit the "START" button in odin and wait about 5-10 minutes until you see the green "PASS" in odin and profit. ***You must allow the phone to boot fully one time after running this odin process so that it can wipe the phone and complete the the re-partitioning.*** However, when the phone boots, you will be on stock, binged, bloated, unrooted TouchWiz. So odin a recovery and remedy that situation quickly!!! And just in case there are any misconceptions, you do NOT need to be rooted to install a custom cwm recovery.tar file with odin. So unless you plan on staying stock, you don't need to root again because any rom you flash will already be rooted. So just odin a recovery and boot immediately into the recovery via the 3 finger method (holding both volume up and down buttons and the power button at the same time and continue to hold them until you see the samsung logo). YOU MUST DO IT THIS WAY BEFORE THE PHONES BOOTS UP NORMALLY OR YOU WILL LOSE THE RECOVERY THAT YOU JUST ODINED! Then, as good practice, follow the instructions of the next paragraph.
And as a good suggestion, if you want voodoo converted partitions (in others words, if you want to flash a voodoo kernel) after odin does it's thing, flash this package (courtesy of navenedrob) from cwm recovery 3x before flashing whatever rom in conjunction with a voodoo kernel you were wanting to flash after coming from CM7 MTD/GB MIUI. Here is the link, flash this if you want voodoo partitions (ext4): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20070269/ext4_formatter_all.zip . This will help to insure that you obtain a clean install of whatever rom/voodoo kernel you are flashing after coming from CM7 MTD/GB MIUI ***If you flash the Ext4 package, you must flash a voodoo kernel afterwards or you will have another brick.***
It is absolutely mandatory that you follow these steps exactly to properly get off of CM7 MTD/GB MIUI so that you can flash another rom. Attempting another method or not following these steps implicitly will result in eventual problems down the line and/or a bricked phone and you will have to follow this guide to fix it.
Thanks for the info.

yep big +1
If you do all this and Odin hangs or something else fails to work, make sure you are using an OEM data/charge cord to do this. I did this exact beautiful brick a month ago was stuck believing for a good 8 hours that I had done it this time, because I was using a data/chord that was supposed to be an upgrade from the OEM chord. Fun times

Bro, just a thought...But for people who follow these steps and STILL get issues, like force closes, the phone not saving your contacts or settings, etc. Then go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090127&highlight=ext4+formatter. Most of us, I think, use ext4, but RFS is the default for Samsung phones. Ext4 is what VooDoo converts your file systems to. Download the file system .zip of your choice, flash it in CWM, then re-flash your ROM, kernel, theme, etc. and it should fix your issues. I had many issues, this killed them all.
I am pretty sure the atlas file is not required if you are using the dl09 package. At least I was able to revert just fine without it.

You HAVE to let it boot into stock recovery once after flashing the full Odin. Stock recovery needs to do an automatic data wipe before it boots into the OS. Which is why if you were to flash cwm right after flashing the full Odin, you'd get the datadata/dbdata issues.

This was essentially the process I followed a few days ago when I reluctantly reverted back to touchwiz framework for reliable call operation (CM7 MTD is getting so close).
After letting the DL09 image boot for the first time, I odined Times_Infinity's CM3 and booted straight into it with the intention of running navenedrob's ext4 formatter utility. I immediately heard the familiar scary voodoo lady reporting the lagfix conversion operation, backing up & restoring DL09 system and data files that I had no interest in keeping around, etc. Once it finished and I had TI's CWM on screen, I flashed navenedrob's ext4 utility to reformat.
So, to save some time and an unnecessary format cycle, here's a reminder to create a "/sdcard/voodoo/disable lagfix" file before starting this process .
FWIW, the latest imnuts PBJ kernel has a modified CWM (in yellow) that reportedly incorporates navenedrob's ext4 formatting enhancements, but I've had other issues with that kernel and there's no version to apply via Odin...

While it may work with those 2 files, the atlas file is not required if using the dl09 tar. I am not a coder, but I believe it may be redundant to use that file with the dl09 tar. +++++++1. I have used the DL09 file plus the atlas 2.2 pit file many times. It's the best thing for a good, clean, fresh start to build from. If you aren't using the PIT file, you aren't restoring your partitions back to where they need to be.

Ive tried this three times now using stock recovery. I get an error message: failed to verify whole-file signature: signature verification failed: installation aborted. I downloaded from three different sources in my attepmts. Once downloaded I use ASTRO to move them to root on SD card file name update.zip. boot into Android system recovery, apply sdcard:update.zip and error as described earlier. Mind you I am stock, unrooted DL09
You need to use the cwm-recovery-all from jt.
1. Pick a custom kernel if you want & put it on your sd card where you can find it.
2. D/l Jt's cwm-recovery-all on your pc.
3. Odin the cwm-recovery-all & put your battery back in & boot directly into it using the 3 button method.
4. Flash your kernel of choice. This will ensure your recovery stays put.
Note: You may not need to flash a custom kernel because I think the odin file permanently overwrites the stock blue recovery but it never hurts to be sure. If you stay on the stock kernel there's a chance it may overwrite cwm when it boots. This eliminates the need to rename anything in order to flash it. Not claiming to be an expert & its obvious your familiar with the mechanics of the process so it should work out. Hope this helps.
Edit: Sorry, forgot to get to the point. Once you've got cwm working you can upgrade the radio using the aforementioned process without having to rename the files. Probably would be a good idea to update the cwm to a more current one as well eventually. But the recovery-all will get you started.

if all you are trying to do [from what i understand] is upgrade your modem from DL09 to ED01
you are already on DL09
in my second link download the zip for DL09 to ED01 zip file and put it on your SD Card.
Flash the CWM ( do not turn back on)
Hold Down the volume up, volume down, and Power button [ 3 finger salute] untill you see the samsung LOGO then you can let go.
Use the volume keys to get to "install zip from sd card" and install the dl09 to ed01 zip reboot and you are at ed01.
Done
Server not available
I tried the Gingerbread leak but decided to go back after ruining an SD card. I reinstalled ED01 but cannot get the ED04 update. Keeps saying server is unavailable
Is this something they do before a new release, take the server down?

In the Link Odin DL09 and you can jump right to ED04
Was the modem the only thing updated in ED04?
Thanks, but I tried all that. Seems I had a bad dl09 install. As soon as I odined the vzw-dl09.tar from adrynalyne the vzw OTA damned near immediately picked it up and took it right to ED04. Now I'm looking for a decent ROM that won't need too much fussing.

[Firmware|Odin] MJ4 Baseband firmware tar

Here is the MJ4 firmware in a flashable tar. It includes bootloader, modem, baseband, etc.
This will NOT wipe your phone or data. It does not flash a ROM, only the firmware. This will update people to the MJ4 baseband.

Thank You Sir...

I'm sure you can flash it with Mobile Odin, but it's not a recovery flashable.
Careful with mobile Odin. Last time I tried bit with a modem it didn't work so well. Had to reflash whole tar from desktop to get phone back in working order. Unless they fixed it since then.

My computer broke so I'm screwed lol
Just flashed and in about phone it still says my baseband is MI3
I believe you need to be on MI5 first. At least that's what I seen a lot from other people before u can go to MJ4. Don't kill me if I'm wrong

Yes it did. Maybe I should try it again, perhaps use a regular usb 2.0 cable? For some reason this 3.0 cable doesnt get along to well with my computer. First time rooting it I almost bricked it because it kept failing then I got the firmware upgeade encountered an error message when trying to boot my phone up but luckily finally it worked and all was well.
I am supposed to be putting this in the PDA slot of odin and leaving the file zipped exactly as it was when I downloaded it, correct?

The stock cable should be adequate if not good quality. Compared to the Epic 4G and cable for that I had before...
Flash .zips. Odin .tars .tar.md5 .pit or whatever it is properly. Make sure you have the correct .tar in the pda slot and use an updated version of Odin3 (3.04) and leave all the default settings as is, aside from the PDA .tar, hit start.
Edit: Also make sure to check the MD5, maybe you got a corrupt download.

Still didnt work. Do I need to be on MI5 like you suggested earlier for this to work?
I wonder if we can pull the MI5 stock keyboard and replace it with the MJ4 to get the gray colored keyboard back
