Is there anyway to change the display of phonebook on x10? e.g., order according to surname instead of first name, smaller fonts, etc.
Thanks.
Needs a app. Android expects searches for everything. There are several free and pay on market.
Fwiw my imported contacts from my old phone were in last name order and continue to remain that way. Facebook twitter Linkin all show up first name last name.

If using standard fw, then I'm sure there was an option in the address book menu

There was in the att 1.6 firmware but the 2.1 is more standard android and it's known shortcoming.

Fair enough Stan, I didn't use SE 2.1 for long

Looking for a messaging APK that can be side loaded to my jetstream. If I send a text to my # from my phone it goes through but I have nothing to view it with... Or a good alternative app. I have text plus but want to use my number and go native if possible

This is relevant to my interests.
How does messaging work when I only have a data plan? My messages do not go through. no notifications or such for them.

You can use text plus in the market or other apps. I installed text plus yesterday and it works fine, I would just prefer it being native.
PS. You can also use an art app that well connect your phone to your tab and let you sync both.

not sure. I'm assuming you would need more than just the messaging apk though. I'll look into it.
Just grabbed Handcent side loaded from their website
Works great.

If you have an at&t smartphone just download at&t messages. Thats what i use. It syncs text messages between my phone, tablet and pc, and i can send/receive from any of them.

It's a great option, but only if you are not a corporate account user.

Installed handcent. Works fine. Alittle buggy with the contact sync'n but works. Any way to get the MMS to work? I know the Jetstream is locked down to at&t which is fine but you can't edit the APN to ad the MMS settings. I'm sure it will work if we can just edit that APN. I know the tablet can be unlocked to allow this with other carriers but how do we unlock it with at&t to be able to edit the apn settings..?
What extra fees would be applied to my account if I used this?
I only have a data account. No phone.
I use Sprint for cel phone.
I don't see a need to use the messaging on my jetstream. It would be awesome to sync my texts from Sprint, but thats probably impossible coming across two networks like that.
If you are not using att sync, which only works with an att phone, you get charge a per text fee

There are several Messaging options from your JetStream
Whatsapp - Installed & working on my device - allow sending to & from the device to any other mobiles (Text/ pictures / clips) - works perfect - No need to root or anything.
GO SMS Pro - works perfect on my rooted JetStream - with Notification of incoming SMS, allow me to send SMS from my JetStream to any mobile or receive SMS directly to my JetStream - I am using an ORANGE sim card after i SIM Unlocked my Jetstream.
Also after unlocking the Bootloader and root , i have the Phone icon, with the Phone dialer, allow me to dial from my Jetstream - generate a call, but no voice on both sides (this still need to be solved ) .
i installed handcent today and finally was able to create my online ATT account. I had to send a text to my device but it didn't have a native sms app to receive the text from ATT. (good job ATT).
But...handcent is just an overload for me. Could they possibly add another option for customizaton? Lol it would take me a whole day to go through the settings menu. I would prefer something plain and simple. Just my taste.
Hi
(I have searched)
Is there a way to enable the stock Samsung app to show what has been said in the email sent?
Eg
I send an email, and get a reply back, but without what I have typed, only their response

Normally most senders have their e-mail default set up with the original e-mail text sent to them displayed below in a reply. It makes it easier to understand the reply if you can see the original text in the e-mail.
It looks like the person you sent an e-mail to has modified their e-mail program setings or just deleted your original text that was inserted in their reply. So your text is not in the reply e-mail.
You can always select Options and view Folders and read your original e-mail in the Sent or Sent Items (this folder will be dependant upon how the exchange e-mail provider has set up their system). You may have to do a refresh when in folder view to see all the folders.
It seems to be just with the ics email app,
I use touchdown also (because of this ) and I get the full email in replys ,
Just a pain , I think its Sammy based as I don't remember it on CM9

I can't figure a way how to do that neither with the stock contact/dialer app nor the GO launcher/contact app. I can do it using GO SMS pro but it takes many clicks. I can do it for an individual contact so I have to think there is a way to do it for groups but I can't figure it out...
Thanks!
With stock texting you just have to enter their name in at the top..
I'm not sure of any other way..

so many people eager to end up like:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...on-contact-list-didnt-know-use-new-phone.html
because if you can make group's to txt, of course there is always an ALL CONTACTS group...
Could you set up a contact, name it what you want, with the mobile numbers like this
1234567890, 1234567890, 0987654321?
No idea if that would work.

Poor guy... my stepson did sent a message intended to a female to his mom but there was no sexual references in it. You should see his face when I told him...
I will use it with a couple of buddies a our hunting lease. Everytime after someone shoota we start texting everybody to see who is the person that shot. I can text groups with about 6 clicks now using groups. The idea of just using a contact with all the numbers is a possibility but I'm sure it will have limitations on the amount of numbers. There must be a way to do this, I'm sureim not the only person wanting this.
Thanks!
I know on DW Contacts you can do it. I think the free version is limited on the number of times you can use this feature.

I don't post often because I usually do some searching and find my answer. Not the case this time.
When I had an iPhone I was annoyed that it was not possible to choose defaults to override certain functions. For instance, you can't change the default browser. That's just one example, but there are many more.
After switching to android I thought I'd be all set. And for the most part I am. However, I still have not figured out how to modify one behavior that's bothering me: control of what happens when hyperlinks are clicked. The particular example I am thinking of right now is eBay.
I have the eBay app installed. So, whenever I click an eBay link - whether it's in a browser, an email, or another app - I want it to open the eBay app. I don't ever want it to open the eBay web page in the browser. Same goes for all the other apps I have installed. Another example - using the xda app. If I have the xda app installed and I get an email that includes a link to a thread here on xda, I want to view it in the xda app, not in a browser. Ever.
How do I make sure this behavior always works the way it should? It appears that some apps will ask what behavior you want to use as default. But that doesn't seem to work 100%. Our the setting isn't sticking. I don't know.
its not androids fault, its the app/web developers... tumblr makes great use of defaults but no other app seems to...

Is it a limitation caused by the "from" app or the "to" app?
For instance, I just got an email that there was a reply to this thread. When I click on the link in the Gmail app, there is no option to use the xda forum app to open the link. Is that a fault of the Gmail app, or the xda app?
I'd say the "to" app. I use tapatalk and any xda link gives me the option to open the forum in the app
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2
I say its both both sides can be programmed to do it. the app can intercept links and webpages can add app specific buttons
tumblr has app specific buttons (open in app) and YouTube intercepts most links (thus when you click a YouTube link the app opens)

On my previous mobile - a Galaxy SIII - when in Contacts, if you dragged a contact to the left it opened Messaging so you could send a text and if you dragged the contact to the right it dialed the default contact number.
I thought this was a Google feature but it is missing from my Z2. Have Sony removed it or was it a Samsung add-on?

It's a Samsung add-on.
Ok, thanks for that. I don't suppose anyone knows of a replacement app that does that?

Haha, I also missed that Samsung function. I think most new owners of Z2 here came from Samsung so we are still getting used to a different Android design. I also missed the Share Contact Information where it automatically copies the contact details to SMS format to send contacts. Now, I need to copy paste the mobile number to the SMS which is 4 steps more.
Yes, it's not until they're gone you realise the number of little things you took for granted
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
These little things are the ones Google should improve on; fast and efficient way of doing things in a smartphone. Even iphone users are still stuck with copy paste which I used to joke them about. Too bad Sony didn't have that function so I'm in the same boat as iphone users already.
I did not miss the boalted ugly touchwiz at all. How heavy and boalted touchwiz is samsung had to abandon the kit Kat update for the international version of S3 as it was failed to boot with heavy touchwiz interface

I never used Touchwiz. I went straight to Apex. I'm now using Nova on my Z2.

Touchwiz made me want to tear my eyes out, this feature is the only one of Samsung's gimmicks I used. Loosing it is worth it for a sexy phone like the Z2.
