What happened to Nonsensikal??????
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745603
??!?!??!?!?!
Not sure.. he relased 10.1 then the next day the forum stated removed. Some info would be nice, but i haven't seen anything all week till you posted this.
Weird, he has had by far, IMO, the best ROM I have used.
He pull the rom off of XDA for "personal reasons". No idea what that exactly entails.
http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...ensikal-blue-vanilla-black-3.html#post1763864
It's a mystery ... Google Nonsensikal and you can still find his rom.
Listy said he's moved on. No more rom making. 10.1 was his last, he's now doing apps and other things and I believe he is getting a new device. It's a shame but eventually all our devs and porters will go.

Really 56k, over sensitive much? How's that being an ass? If he wanted us to know the details, which I do as he PM'd me about it, then he would have stated why in his thread before he removed it, but he didn't right? lol, so without mentioning the other forum, or directly linking to it, I suggested using google...

come on man , lighten up ,, people cuzing issues around here is one of the reasons devs leaves ,,TRUST Me!!! when i first started this there were a few people who gave me **** for doing nuthing but makin a rom WHICH i dont even use cuz i dont use the phone for personal use , i have my droid x for that
bottom line we cant make eveyone happy and sometimes its just best to move on as he did ,, not sayin thats y he left but people have pushed me towards the door
....hope we don't lose any more developers. Our phone is discontinued and I've got another year left on my contract. I just read a forum that we're no longer get ANY OTA's. If you downgrade, you must flash back up.
Just curious, why'd the ShadowRom guys leave? I know there was some disagreement about linking to their site, but hell I'll download their rom, sign it (for amon ra people) and post to XDA if that's the only issue. I like to flash and experiment. I want as many options as possible for our EOL devices.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully we still have devs around for a little while longer.. like the other guy stated.. i still have a year left till an upgrade.. lol.. and factory just doesn't cut it with an Eris
Hmm
This happens more often than I care to count. I hate, that for whatever reason, developers keep leaving.

It is the nature of the beast. These fancy pocket computers we have now just don't seem to last long before there's something that is so much more capable out there. And when you sell your current phone and add the 1 or 2 year discounts up, it's hard not to move on.
Besides... There are more up and coming devs than you probably realize. It takes time to learn this stuff.
Oh here we go again. Internet argument. Grabs popcorn
Sent from my nonsensikal froyo using XDA App
Y'all talk about this like it's the end of the world. Look at all the old WinMo phones that still have active development here! What about the G1? That was the first Android phone ever sold commercially. And it's running CM6!
They've even ported over the Hero rom to it with HTC Sense.
Now the down side is our phone is CDMA which means we have several continents of potential developers who don't have our device, but we do have our non-identical twin brother the Sprint Hero which shares 90% of its hardware with the Eris. And the Hero has a pretty active development community. (One reason may be is that Sprint traditionally has lower credit requirements than Verizon and it is easier for people to get phones through them)
Anyway, we have Kaos,Tazz, Conap and a few others others who are churning out stuff left and right for our phones still. Nothing to worry about IMO.
We got Froyo which arrived despite Verizon and HTC saying it just wouldn't work. They also said Android 2 would never fit on a G1 and now they've got Froyo. Apps2SD, Cache2Cache and other great ideas will keep our main memory clear for more stuff. If Kaos continues development on his tool to boot roms from SD cards, we have virtually unlimited storage capacity for bigger and better things.
I am not mad at him leaving and I know i can try another rom, just seemed like his has been by far the fastest and most stable.
Not sure what happened behind the scenes, but maybe he will come back.
His v10.1 was top knotch and super fast.
For the whole month of waiting for S-off the only thing that was going on in here was people complaing and bashing other people. Well now that we have S-off it seems every thread is someone having problems with there phone after they rooted it. It seems to me this is why sprint and htc dont want us toying with these phones. Rooting a phone is suppose to make it better correct? It seeme to me its making the phones worst

Some batteries got better some peoples phones wont turn on at all lol. But the funny thing is. All these problems people are having from rooting if they dont get fixed there gona go into sprint store complaining.

I dunno, the "no calls/txt/data" is a problem that is hit-or-miss when you do a hands-free-activation....root or not. It happened to me, took me under 2 minutes to have fixed by Sprint, who did it happily.
People losing 4G? I don't think this network is robust enough to blame that on root...and even if that is in an area with a rock solid 4G signal I still think there may be some user intervention at play that isn't the fault of getting s-off all by it self.
The funky "turning on, or not, or plugged in, or not, or take out battery, or sdcard, or both, or not" problems were there from the begining...I used to think it was only certain phones, but, I think it's all phones in certain conditions. Being s-off and rooted gives us the ability to put the phone into more conditions where that may or may not happen.
...and as far as battery performance is concerned it's nearly impossible to prove that it ISN'T user/application related. I'm not saying it definitely IS their fault, but, it's impossible to prove that...so many conditions vary for your phone so frequently every day even if yours do not that battery life claims are nearly impossible to prove and impossible to refute based on any changed variable all by itself....not to mention a near 100% chance of someone else reporting the exact opposite condition.
...aside from my data going slow after hands-free-activation (which is fixed in 2 minutes) I have experienced none of these problems after rooting...okay, I take that back, I have experienced the "sometimes it turns on while plugged in, sometimes it doesn't"...but, it did that before s-off/root as well.
...and let's not forget that the s-off hack likely has nothing to do with these issues. I have the eng hboot...non-hacked. Just the way god intended. If it is from anything it would be from the rooting of the ROM, which I still doubt.
Honestly, compared to the initial period after the s-off/root exploits releases for other devices this doesn't seem out of the ordinary at all...and no offense meant, but, are you new to this?
EDIT: Oh yeah, to answer your question....yes, s-off and rooting were VERY worth it to me. Now bring on the AOSP
No way. I hate having a better phone

Oh, I dont have any insurance on my new 3D phone.
Two words: User error. The problems you see are because people do not know what they are doing. Simple as that. Rooting your phone does nothing but give you permission to be able to do what you want to do with "your" phone.

Yeah, that's a really good point. I think that Sprint in general has probably been taking in a lot of new users, likely mostly smartphone users, because of the unlimited data thing...and the fact that Sprint actually has the most compelling collection of smartphones right this second IMHO. Sadly I'm thinking about jumping ship since this signal is just useless to me in most places now, and that's to say nothing of the over-loaded network.
...not to mention the droves of E4G defectors who were following the developers, and the larger and more frequent droves of defectors from every phone from the last generation that want the developer support that the E4G had but they definitely did not see...and then there are all of the people who finally got off of their contract from Heros and Moments from when they were still hot items....
...so, yeah, there is just so many goddamned people in here that I'd be surprised if there weren't more complaints on average. Contrast this to the NookColor forum where there are far more actual tricky problems but nobody blames the root method for them missing a step or not understanding a process...not to mention how god damned civil it is around there.

To me it was worth it. However I've noticed many issues are because folks don't read, can't follow instructions, make changes without knowing WHAT they are doing.
Sorry but if you don't know what changes you're making, what issues they cause, how to fix, how to undo what you screwed up, then they shouldn't be rooting, flashing and changing settings.
By "you" I don't necessarily mean you, but more of a "folks in general".

Hey dude, it was a joke... I read your post and that is how it looked to me.
And really?... basing the success of something on a DEVELOPERS forum's Q&A section?
I can pull up every single phones Q&A section and get just as many, probably more issues in the general dates of when they where first rooted/cracked/jailbroken.
Soooooo, chill buddy.
I have been around since the beginning of android. I Had a G1, then a Nexus One, to a MT4G, and now a Rezound. I rooted every one (minus the rezound obviously) and frequented the forums, learning and discussing the Mod'ing of these devices. As these past years have gone by, I have grown more and more concerned with the direction the community has taken.
Now there has always been at least some drama within the community, but as Android has grown in popularity, and more users seek info in the forums, the drama has ramped up exponentially it seems.
I remember when it was more about info than ego...
My request: Can we please get back to what its really about? Mod'ing, Flashing, and fun. Lets leave our egos at the door, they only do more harm than good. A sense of community and mutual respect is what we should strive for.
No personal insults/attacks be respectful even in disagreements
Don't steal code... give credit where due
Don't be a troll
Don't flame someone just for ignorance (if they seem to be habitual in forum misuse tell a mod so they can investigate and they can handle it appropriately)
Expect nothing, make no demands, ask politely... this goes for all sides
Remember this is a hobby and just for fun for most of us. Replace the fun with drama and what is the point.
I am sure there are other things I could list, but that will do for now.
Edit: resurrected from the dead...
Just so you guys know... Nobody is owed anything. No Dev owes you ROMs, root, or anything else. Vice versa, no user owes a Dev anything for their work. (paid market apps excluded) The rooting community is a hobby based entity. We work on respect and a mutual love of the platform. Donations are voluntary but a good idea. (It makes Devs feel appreciated)
Another thing... Drama... It kills the community. It runs off users and Devs alike. It creates a hostile environment that no one wants to deal with. When a device looses Devs it can be a death nail to the further development for that device.
When you think "just my one little question on ETAs won't be a big deal, I'll PM/IRC/tweet/IM the dev" you have to remember... about 100 other people are thinking the exact same thing. Its one thing to pop in the ROM's thread and if you don't see any activity for several days/a week, to post a quick question like "how is it going?", as dealing one one question and being able to answer publicly so others benefit too is not a big deal... Just don't get upset if the answer is a simple "we are still working on it" Often times there is a lot of effort put in but no real progress to report, no landmark goals yet made.
When you take the ETA/update questions into areas like IM that you start getting several people an hour pestering someone with the same question and it gets old...
^^^^^that's what it should about. But u got so many newbies here (and we all started somewhere of course) it seems as of the trolling and such come from New people not understanding the aspect of the site. But I k.ow I'm wasting my time typi.g his. Hope it happens.

When I first started coming here, it was all about the phones. Helpful people, friendly community, the works. After a while it just seemed to deteriorate. Every other thread was a flame war. It got to a point where i'd rather rack my brain or scour Google before I'd ask a question in here, because I knew some ego tripping person with no manners was gonna try to flame me for asking a simple question. A little respect/courtesy can go a long way, whether if ur helping someone or being helped.

I would like to see a rule enforced regarding swearing and overly aggressive, or hateful language.
I understand that phones can be frustrating, and so can users. But, if you can't post in a helpful and friendly way, you probably shouldn't post at all.
Temporary (and the threat of permanent) banning should be used to keep those in line who do not have the self control to handle posting in a respectful manner.
I wouldn't worry too much. With the Galaxy Nexus going on sale today, most of the babies crying that they can't unlock/root their Rezound are most likely in line right now to exchange their Rezound for the Galaxy Nexus. That should weed out many of those who do nothing but complain here in the Rezound threads.

Not trying to start anything or flame anyone, but isn't it the Mod's job to determine whether a thread is posted in the wrong area and move it accordingly? It just seems that if you come behind someone who took the time to start a thread and tell them that its in the wrong place, you come off like a smart Alec and thus animosity begins. Not saying that u are, just saying some ppl get off on that and only that. Once again, not trying to start anything, just my two pennies.

Yeah, I considered putting this in the over all general forum, but I am seeing so much craziness here in the Rezound forums that I thought it was needed here the most. I might throw it up in the Android general section if you guys think I should.
I love this phone, but I am getting impatient for root.
It is mostly the battery life issue. I hate extra batteries with a passion and hate needing to charge during the day as well. I am a light user, I just game a few minutes during breaks, send a few messages through the day and a few random things here and there. I really only have a smartphone for the convenience that it brings and the fact I like the Android OS and followed it since early 2007. With my MT4G even on a heavy use day (for me) I would have 40% left when I went to bed and charged, usually it was around 60%. With the larger screen and dual cores, I don't expect the same, but I know it will be better with cyanogenMOD on it. I can get through the day, but just barely, and that is on my lightest days.

Hmm...?? Who Are You Referring About? I Didn't Think I Said Anything Wrong Just Noting About Not Many People In "Here" Read The xda-General. If I Said Something Wrong I Do Apologize There Was No Condescending Intention.
Let's clean this up a bit, shall we?
I get the impression sometimes that we (speaking about everybody here in the 3D forums recently) make this place sort of "unfriendly" with sarcasm and troll posts, rudeness when people post in the wrong section, create duplicate threads, so on and so forth...
First of all, I will say that I am fully aware of my own contribution to this, lol. BUT... i was thinking earlier about when I started out over on SDX and how friendly and eager people were to help me when I was new to the android/Linux scene (although I still had somewhat of a basic understanding of it because of my knowledge of windows, Linux and especially android was a new world to me and much of the knowledge I have picked up since then was simply because people were so willing to offer help and their own knowledge - regardless of "noob" questions (when I simply could have used a search button).
Yeah, for whatever reason you just want to punch people through the computer sometimes when they post in the wrong section or make "hAlp my phonez is teh broken" threads that can easily be fixed with some searching around. But I think we should try to be a little bit more of a friendly and tolerant (and therefore tolerable... ironically) of the things that go on around here.
Anyways, just some dumb ass rant post. But I thought I would share this thought because I feel the action of it could be a positive thing around here.
oouuut.
So, I will be nicer to people. Let's all try this, shall we?

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that since there's been a flood of Android phones hitting the market over the last year and a half or so, there's also a flood of people who come with it. They buy a new Android device, hear about 'rooting' and jump on here. Not everyone knows the meaning of respect, and they expect things to just be handed to them. There's definitely more idiots on here than before, but also just more people overall. No matter where you go, the more people around, the more idiots there will be. It's unfortunate indeed.
I try to be helpful, but it's definitely aggravating when someone just flat out doesn't read a damn thing, and asks a question that's clearly typed in the OP. When I joined, I didn't know ANYTHING about rooting, ROMs, etc. but I read a few things and learned.
There are a few forums that I use that have a n00b section with zero intolerance for the replies to questions in said sub-forum, maybe that would be nice, then we can segregate the n00bs and flame more well-known users for asking stupid things. Lol
---------- Post added at 06:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:12 AM ----------
I used to get on here several times a day, reading these forums, but it took me a long time to actually register because the few immature people that start a fight in the thread made it look irritating. Like whoever posted in the recent ICS thread about how the OP was information from another thread, even though the OP was several pages long.
Who cares? It's something else to read. That's why most of us are here, for some form of entertainment.
n00bs != newbies
Newbies don't know things and after TRYING to figure it out themselves, they have ended up, seeking answers for uncommon situations. This is OK.
n00bs, on the other hand, don't know ****, they don't give a crap about learning and expecting from others to give all the answers on a gold plate without moving a finger on their foot. This is not OK.
The sooner pseudomoralistic idiots realize this, the sooner will be this place be as it used to be before. If not, I'll continue to troll n00bs for my own amusement and you can kiss my shiny ass.
'Nuff said.
Every time I see someone say "cool story bro" I add them to my ignore list. Just added another..
That said XDA has gone steadily down hill. I remember when I first came here I was actually afraid to post. Now XDA is so addicted to member counts that they let just about anything go. Had a guy yesterday asking how to hack Amazon this is the crowd being attracted now. Its a shame and like many others i'm looking for the next XDA. Problems is the asses will just following. BTW I have no idea what the OP posted because he is already on my ignore list as it the poster below him now.

Yes, the "an answer is easily found by a very fast google search but I'm too lazy to do it or just expect you tell me" crowd is the problem I agree. Even if they are not the majority, when I see a new thread or question that seems like an easy find, I get really mad because I had to take the time to learn and search on my own. I've been on here since 2006 and I guess because of all the new androids out there you get people who are not technologically inclined trying to do technicological things.

However, I agree it has gotten out of control, and the mods are unwilling or unable to do anything about the newbs or the a%*holes that are attacking devs when they know nothing about any of this development stuff.

/pulls out soap box and stands on it
first off you wouldnt believe the amount of buttholes and douchebags mods put up with on a daily basis. most often we only get called in when there is a problem, so everyone wants to talk about how things have changed and how it sucks putting up with the idiots. put on mod glasses, i would 75% of the people on here, instead of just reporting a troll or a n00b posting in the wrong spot or a spammer, they in turn flame, troll, spam the person that just needs reporting. so that means, we then have to clean everything back up, figure out who to get rid of and sort the whole situation. its not fun. if you want to see things change, be the change. report posts, dont flame the idiots, dont feed the trolls, just move on with your day. we arent afraid to boot people, we arent about "registration numbers", we are about supporting developers. but we cant be in every thread at once or all the time. if you see something out of place, report it, everyone has that ability. but most of us just return the favor of flaming people.
i became a mod, because i believed that a difference could be made. i reported posts, before i was a mod, i was helpful to people, i tried to teach n00bs the correct way of doing things instead of treating them like trash. yes there is an over abundance of users now due to the influx of android devices, most of the new users dont know anything, and they wont ever learn anything if we all are douchebags to them.
if XDA is becoming something that it wasnt in the past, its because we as a user base are allowing it to be so. be a respectful user, help people out, if someone is doing something they arent supposed to report them. serisously, how are we supposed to know whats going on if we arent notified?
/steps off soap box
I think a large problem too is it really does feel like the mods play favorites. I don't want to bring up the whole Chad.Goodman thing, and how he was reported and pulled in a matter of hours, yet, when he reported other non-GPL complying dev's nothing was done to them. Or my own situation, having important threads detailing hostile actions from one particular user being deleted without any reply or communication from a mod as to why. That user having no repercussion for his actions.. It's really feels that it's not an equal ground forum a lot of the time.

i agree that it may feel like that sometimes, and sometimes mods need to do a better job in communicating. users will not however see everything that goes on behind the scenes. if we infract someone we dont broadcast it, its really no one else's business if i infract you, thats why other users cant see other peoples infractions. if you dont like the way a mod handled something, ask him (or her) how/why they did what they did. dont be hostile about it, just pose a question. i know we are more than willing to talk to users about their issues, and come to the best possible resolve.
To Enable/Disable Fast Dormancy on ICS add the appropriate line to your build.prop. build.prop can be found in system/app folder. To edit just press on build.prop and then edit with a text editor. Place the edit at the very bottom of your build.prop.
Enable: ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=1
Disable: ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=0
You do not add the word Enable:/Disable: just add ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=#
I know I already posted this on another thread but a lot of people (not all) do not read the threads but still wanna know the fix so I thought it would be easier to start another thread and put it in the first post so nobody has to search for an answer. Fast Dormancy is believed to save battery life when disabled.
Just to make sure... I want it enabled... right?

Because of carrier support. If they use it, they assume you want it on. Its a networking implementation for traffic control.

How about a explanation of what it exactly is! Rather then post 2 build props...so a user has an idea what it is????

Cause I assume with all the threads about Fast Dormancy on XDA and many other sites most people have heard of it and know what it is used for. I can give an explanation but you can also ask for an explanation or simply do a google search. Here is a link about Fast Dormancy that gets strait to the point about why people wanna use this feature on the I717 Note. Read the last paragraph.

I know what it is.. but as you see you had a member ask if its supposed to be enabled or disabled...it just helps a little more when making threads to perhaps explain what it is.. or what it could do..Just helps the inexperienced users to learn..

On Android 2.#.# there is a few simple way to turn it on and off but on ICS its not as simple. I'm thinking about making a script so that it can be turned on and off at anytime.
Just thought I might add, the "huge battery improvements" have no credibility for the most part unless screen on times are included. 60+ hours means nothing if you're only getting like 2 or 3 hours of screen on time. OP or whoever has done this build prop edit should run a few tests with and without it enabled and show the great increase in screen on time, or most people will continue to be confused about this.
That being said, I can see where it can increase standby battery life, but I doubt that it makes much of a difference in screen on time, which is what matters most to anybody who has a charger on hand every night.
*******edit******** meant to post this in the bounty thread about fast dormancy where the op hasn't done anything but complain and make ridiculous claims without much proof.

so I have made ridiculous claims with no proof huh..... and I have just complained. Well a big kiss my booty to you.
Please look here mr positivity starting with post 821. Then read post 823, 826, 827, 831 and more to come.
I will say it again, it works for me in my every day use. The pattern is the same and before it was 8 to 12 hours now its up to 30. If you don't believe it then dont bother with disabling it

Actually, no, you still haven't shown anything regarding screen on time, which is arguably the best indicator of battery life. My note could get 30 hours bone stock if I barely used it. I get about 14-15 hours with almost 4 hours of screen on time in a usual day, and haven't touched fast dormancy. Show me your 30 hours with 4 hours of screen on time, and I'll eat my words.
In the mean time, you should probably grow up a little, as we like to keep things mature and civil around here. Also, you should probably get on with paying that 25 dollar bounty you posted; its only fair to porkenheimer and the guy who unbricked you.

ok here we go... first I have nothing I need to prove to you. My every day use is generally the same. Prior to FD being disabled, I would get a total of 12 to 15 hours of batter between charges. Now its 30 hours plus. Thats good enough for me and anyone else who cares.
Secondly, I dont know of many phones (especially this size) that four hours plus of continuous on screen time is going to get there.
as for the bounty, I ask for a dev to come up with a solution and I will gladly split it between the two. But I find it funny that you and so many truly doubt its value so does that mean they really deserve a bounty.
And I might remind you, I am grown up but you were the first to make baseless accusations in a thread I wasnt even a participant in. Talk about an unfair fight or is that your M.O.
ta ta
P.S. do some thread searching on me. The same results were posted (even better) when I had my international note
P.S.S. purely ridiculous what goes on over trying to extend our battery life. You would think we are debating world peace. up...tight.........
I will once again charge over night and run a FULL cycle and then post. If you eat or dont eat I could care less but at least others can decide for themselves

Again, you have said nothing about your screen on time with it enabled vs. disabled. For all anybody knows, you just got more conscious about conserving battery once you have it disabled on a device, and a little conservation can go a long ways in improving standby time if you have very little screen on time. Screenshots prove legitimate improvements of screen on time, of which, you have provided none. You can say your battery life increased as much as you want, but unless that screen on time improves, you haven't said much. And if you would have read my first post, I meant to post it in your thread but made a mistake. My intention wasn't to go behind your back. And as far as I'm concerned, my accusations are more based in fact from my experience with my past two androids and their forums regarding battery life than your claims of ridiculous battery life are. Screen on time matters because your screen is on when you're using your phone. Anybody who lives in a modern city with access to a power outlet could give a hoot about your standby time increasing, as that's most likely the case. And about the bounty, somebody did come up with a solution. And people question the legitimacy because they haven't seen solid, set in stone, improvements that are proven...hell, most people don't know what it is.
All I asked for was some screen time values, and a comparison of enabled vs. disabled with respect to screen time, that is all. You can either oblige, or I guess I'll try it myself. No need to argue and clutter up porkenhimer's thread.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I am not going to oblige you. I think you are perfectly capable of running your own test. If you feel what I have given so far is inconclusive, bogus or usefulness to everyone else then your entitled to that opinion. This is still a place where others can try the same course I took and if they get a result then great. if they dont then its a failure.
But your decision to deride it unless it has an a-b is just that, another accusations. I have said at least three or four time for me I have seen major increases in the time between charges. Perhaps your basis of "we all know putting on a charger every night" is the sole argument why you think this isnt valid. Again, others are free to decide not you.
Thats it for me folks. Carry welchertc all you want but I think from my perspective I have said all I care to address with you.

no sides to take mate. Try it and if it works great, if not you can easily turn it back on
I'll just be blunt and ask: what was your screen-on time during the 30 hours?
Screenshots would be cool, too.
I'm genuinely curious!
