[Q] please help my home button is disabled, not a hardware issue - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My home button works in clockwork but does not work when I've fully booted into android. Home does not work in any app, the peacock 'n' on the touchscreen work in the web browser but some apps like Pocket Legends require me to shut down the tablet to exit.
Rom is stock 3588.
Background: I recently had the 'force close' problem, and my PC was unusable because of home remodeling, so I couldn't do any fix that required a computer. At work I had read that clearing some information I.e. contacts could help, so I tried that when I got home. I also read in settings/applications I could clear contacts data, so I tried that. No love for either fix, but I still had no home PC access, so I went ahead and cleared data from a bunch of system apps (thinking that If I had to re-flash anyways it wouldn't matter). Maybe that disabled my home key. I also deleted a few apps, and I know some apps disable the home key. Maybe deleting an app when I was having framework problems disabled the home key? My home pc is running again and I used another solution that did not require flashing or partitioning: I installed clockwork, ran 'fix permissions' and the force close issue is fixed but still no home button. If I boot into clockwork the home button works fine (after all, you need the home button in clockwork). A reboot, or ten reboots, will not solve the problem.
I have done an internet search for 'disable android home button' and 'enable'. I have found apps for button remapping but I would rather not use an app for a bandaid.
Anyone have any advice that does not include 'flash a new ROM'?
Edit: the borked home button happened before I used clockwork, so I don't suspect clockwork. Also, when I press the power button to turn off the tab I get two options: power off, or sleep. There used to be more options, I forget what they were because I never used them but perhaps one was airplane mode. Maybe whatever disabled the home button also changed teh power button menu options.

Mike, were you able to fix your problem?

I lived without the hardware button working for about 3 weeks, and a couple of days ago I booted the tab and it took me to the stock, first time setup. ug! apps wiped, and force closes, but media and app save data was still there. and the HOME BUTTON WORKED AGAIN! i also had all four options back in the shutdown menu. I did 'fix permissions' and reinstalled all my apps; the app save data was still there, but afaik titanium will only back up app data if the app is installed. backed up apps and turned those leamons into leamonade by switching to vegan 5.1.1 with vtl launcher. way better tablet experience and angry birds still works.

Home button not working

After installing the HKTW Gingerbread, my lockscreen has disappeared, and the home button isn't working. It's tedious, to the say the least, to have to press the back button about 10 times to get to the home screen.
I've looked online, and it seems people just had to enable the lockscreen again. I can't find the option to disable it or enable it.
From what I remember reading last night some people had success getting their home button working after either restoring data or taking out their battery/putting back in.
I didn't back up data :/
I've pulled the battery several times, to no effect. Its quite annoying lol

Bump, can no one help me with this? Or should I just flash back?
Me too
I'm running 1.83 with an unlocked bootloader. My problem presents itself as no lock screen, home button and search buttons do not work for single press or long press (but do still provide haptic feedback), and holding down the power button only gives the option to power off, not airplane mode or silent.
Factory Data Reset fixes the problem until the power turns off.
Did you restore system data with titanium?
i had the same prob and had pulled the batter 1/2 a dozen times before i saw this thread. didn't help, so titanium to the rescue. not sure what it would take to fix it aside from that, but that was absurd and aggravating to no end, fsck that.
The reason I asked the question was because when I restored all of my system data, this happened to me. I started over again but this time I didn't restore my finger printer scanner data and for the first four packages with "accounts" in their name. Now I have a completely working 2.3.4 with the proper AT&T market.
I didn't do a TiBu before I went to Gingerbread, and had the same problems. Interestingly enough, after installing the build.prop fix, a few hours later I locked the screen and when I turned it back on the lock screen was back.
mine is completely gone too
i had this problem when attempting to restore data via titanium backup. reflashed and downloaded apps fresh, and no problems.
Were you able to figure it out, our did you reflash?
Can anyone please upload the titanium backup for system data?

android.process.acore 100 cpu solved

[ I may have initially posted this in the wrong forum, my apologies for the moderators. First post, didn't know ]
So...I had this problem too and didn't find any solution that didn't involved reinstalling, wiping, deleting contacts , etc.
Actually, the solution it's simple.
It's started by the data connection switching, on or off, wifi or 3g, doesn't matter. You switch it, that process goes 100%.
It's also launcher related. I use launcher pro. Anyway, press the home button, get into the launcher, press the menu button, tap preferences, tap the back button. Now the process it's back at 0%. It might be silenced back to 0% in other ways, but this one works for sure.
I tested it multiple times, works like charm.

[Q] Stock s4 home button default not sticking

Hey guys,
I have an interesting problem. I tried searching but couldn't find any help.
For some reason, my home button defaults are not sticking anymore. I use go launcher, and have for a long time, but now, seemingly out of nowhere, it continuously asks me what home launcher to use whenever I press the home button.
I've tried clearing defaults, uninstalling go launcher, no matter what it still won't stick , even when I set twlaumcher to the default.
Does anyone have any idea how I can remedy this issue without a factory reset?
Thanks!
EDIT: I am stock, not rooted.
Bump
Anyone?
Thanks!

Moto 360 V2 won't open menu on button press, opens Assistant instead and then crashes

It was previously just in a bootloop and didn't want to turn on the screen at all. Managed to somehow boot it up today and factory reset (AGAIN) and connected to my less used Google account just to be safe (less data to sync).
Previous problem I had is still there however. When I click the menu button even lightly (not holding down), it opens up Assistant. Voice commands haven't crashed the watch yet but if I click on Assistant settings or anything else, screen will turn black and it won't reboot. Only way to reboot it to place it on the charger and hold down the power button.
I also have a logcat from Bluetooth debugging. Log ends when watch shuts down after clicking anything on Assistant. Started logging right after startup and all I did was install some updates which took a while.
Nothing extraordinary at the bottom of the log stands out to me but I'm probably not as good as some of you at reading logs. There seems to be several errors occurring.

I did all the updates on Play Store (WearOS, Google etc) but problem still persists.
Any help is really appreciated.

Notifications, Home, Recent, Developer menu not working

So i turned on my phone and strangely this had happened.
The buttons themselves still work as i can long-press to get the settings menu. Back still works (otherwise i wouldn't be able to do anything!)
I also noticed it had turned on bluetooth.
I don't even have the lock screen and the pull-down menu is blank. So i cannot change settings very easily now either, the only way to do it is physically going into the settings app.
Also i cannot go to the normal list of all your applications either. The only way to get to my applications is to manually add them to the home screen "launcher" thing (is this the launcher? i was never clear on terminology).
I am on SmallEUI V18 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...eui-5-9-lemax2-aroma-installer-may-1.3524531/
I didn't realise it had been updated.
I cannot use adb, i think maybe i had disabled usb debugging because i heard leaving it on all the time was insecure. However now the developer options won't let me in too, it says "developer options are not available for this user" when i go into the menu. Tried re-enabling them but nothing.
Notifications aren't coming up so I couldn't change the USB connection setting. I was panicking thinking i would be unable to backup anything as i wouldn't be able to put the phone into MTP mode and it would be stuck in charging mode.
Thankfully i can still download and install applications. I found a program called MTP Enabler. I think it was from here but i cannot remember: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/app-root-r-3-3-marshmallow-mtp-enabler.3263467/
You need root for it but thankfully SuperSU still works.
Aurora store still works so i can get apps there too.
Backed up my applications settings manually (not sure if i did it correctly, i just took copies of the Android/data and Android/obb folders for the apps i wanted, but strangely didn't need root).
Also installed Titanium backup to back them up properly and get some of the Le Eco system apps like camera, IR remote that i might need.
SMS with SMS backup and restore.
Not sure the best way to backup whatsapp, just transferred the folder manually.
So i'm not sure the best way to fix everything.
I cannot remember how to flash roms or do anything since it has been so long since i did it. Anyway I do not even know if it is possible without ADB? Surely it must be, otherwise i might be screwed. At least i have root so i guess that gives me more hope of being able to fix things.
I was really worried at one point because i was trying to run TWRP or something to see if it would recover things but i couldn't remember how and somehow i ended up in Qualcom download mode, with no screen or anything. I had no idea what had happened. If that happens to anyone else, i think you get into it by holding down the power and volume down buttons at the same time. And to get out of it i managed to do it by holding power and volume up buttons. After that i have been too scared to turn off the phone though!
BTW in system analyse, i see something called Le Eco key although it only shows the start and end of it. Is this some kind of encryption key and what is it for? I think i remember it being important when flashing CFW for the first time but i cannot remember...?
After i've managed to sort this i definitely want to wipe my phone and start from scratch though, getting something a lot more up to date on there. At least i have the little i care about backed up now. Will have to re-learn what to do!
I found this thread:
Notification area, "home" and "recent" buttons not working
(I'm running cuoco92 stable release, so I also posted in that thread. But maybe this section here is a better place for my problem) Hi there! Right after charging, the notification area and the "Home" and "Recent" buttons stopped working...
forum.xda-developers.com
However I don't know what Users are on my device. How do i find this out? I have root amaze file manager and i can download any apps. What terminal app would you recommend?
Thanks
