[Q] How do I sync with Outlook? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It was easy on my HTC Desire. Just install HTC sync and Bobs your uncle. However I've installed the Moto drivers and Media link. It's even updated itself a couple of times but I can see no place to select the syncing of my Outlook calendar?

Download MyPhoneExplorer for the Android Market its free and works like a charm. You'll also need the PC version, but of all the ones I have tried this one is the best.

For paid ones, gSyncit is the best for $20.

Thanks Guys.
MyPhoneExplorer did the trick for me. Bloody bizzare not having a standard sync on the phone for Outlook though. Even Samsung has that (It didn't work but at least they pretended to want to support Outlook !)
Thanks Again.
Change my mind. Myphoneexplorer now deletes appointments if I create a new one on outlook. Then it copied all my google appointments to my outlook calendar. I wanted them separate otherwise I would have just used google and saved myself the hassle. Then when I delete the appointment in outlook myphone explorer goes and deletes the google appointment on my phone! Luckily I tried deleting just the one appointment. Now uninstalled myphoneexplorer it's to dangerous. Any body got any other suggestions?

leaving winmo!

Hello all, i am leaving winmo this friday for a HTC Hero and i would like to know some things ahead of time.
1. Is ther a bing app for android. i use this every day and would like to continue.
2. how many email acct. can one have on the hero?
3. are there cab. files for android or is everything ran from the app store?
4. will pim backup work to transfer all my contacts, texts, email and so on?
5. are there any other roms to flash to to make it better, and where are they?
i hope some or all can be answered, and i hope this is not a repeat... if so i am sorry, hanx
1. For what purpose?
2. Same as WinMo... one Exchange and as many IMAP/POP3 as you want...
3. Not CABs, they're called APKs in Android, can be installed from device or PC (needs to be enabled in Settings) as well as the market
4. No
5. Modacos and Drizzys is available in the Development forum for Hero, they are custom made from HTCs latest update
Hey, thanks for the quick feed back. just what i needed to know. bing is windows mobile live search cab that give u everything in one place, movie times, weather, business and map searches, gas prices etc. is there anything like it or does google do it all as well? how is the sync feature with windows vista and xp. does android sync with your office suite like winmo does? can you sync calendar, contacts etc.?or will i have to start over with new contact client setup and calendar or something?
It would be in your best interest to set up a google account. I think it syncs your calendar and stuff with google.
Re Syncing of Hero
Yes you can sync your phone so that it gets all your contacts, calendar and emails.
I sync with Exchange to get my emails and calendar entries but use the HTC Sync program to sync contacts. I do this as for some reason I get various errors when syncing contacts through my Exchange account.
This is my first non winmo phone since the first HTC came out on orange and I was very hesitant to leave the platform, however after a week with my G2 (still waiting for T Mobile update!!) i am more than happy and doubt I will venture back unless Microsoft pulls a rabbit out of a hat (or their fingers out of theirs arses) and releases the operating system that people actually want!!
Syncing Hero with Google and Desktop Applications

The Hero comes with HTC Sync which supposedly lets you sync the phone with the Office suite, but I haven't tried that - by the time I realised it was there, I had already migrated everything over to a mixture of Google and Mozilla.
The way I make it work is by using Google contacts and calendar as the 'central database' that you sync everything with. I use Thunderbird for email and contacts, and Sunbird or Lightning for the calendar. (Lightning is an extension for Thunderbird, and Sunbird is essentially the same program but set as a standalone application). Using the GContactSync add-on with the Thunderbird address book lets it sync with Google contacts, and Sunbird/Lightning can be set up already to work with Google calendar. Ideally you actually keep two calendars in Sunbird; one for your recent appointments, one for the archive. This keeps your life off of Google's servers, and makes the synchronising faster on the phone or desktop.
This setup works well even if you have multiple computers that you all want to sync together, though if some of the computers aren't always connected, such as a laptop, then you need another step. The issue is that Sunbird/Lightning connects directly to Google calendar rather than maintaining an offline calendar which it occasionally syncs with Google. So if your connection drops or you switch off wi-fi to save laptop battery, you lose access to the calendar. The solution is another add-on called GCalDaemon which downloads the calendar from Google and then works with Sunbird/Lightning, syncing with Google when it can.
It might sound complicated, but it's not too bad really!
so many questions?
moved to Q&A
Thank steven just what i was after and i never even asked...good man!

Having left Winmo for Android are you happy with your choice? I am currently running a HD and a Hero, I was intending leaving Winmo but I am a bit disappointed with Android.
Do you feel you can do everything with Android that you could do with Winmo?

Sync Oddness

Ok, got the Hero (after a diamond and trinity) works nice BUT what is with the HTC Sync Thing?
Everytime it connects it udates random conacts from Outlook, so that at the moment the wife has 4 entries and some other numbers are the same yet others are fine.
ANyone else any experience and more importantly how to heck do I stop it?!
ta muchly
What? Really? HTC Sync lets you synchronize Outlook or Windows Address Book contacts on your PC with your Hero.

Just don't use it! there is nothing to say you have to use 'HTC Sync'.
I never use it as I don't want the contacts in Outlook to sync to my Hero. I just use my google contacts for this.
No there is nothing saying I HAVE to use HTC Sync however if I want to put all my contacts across in one easy go then the options seem a little limited.
Fixed it now just told it not to auto sync and that seems to have got control back to me
Glad to hear you got it sorted...
I know there are limited options when 'sync-ing' contacts to your Hero.
I used 'ExportContacts' app in the market to export all my 'old' SIM contacts into a csv file. I then exported my contacts from outlook also to a csv file which can then be imported into your Google account.
All to do then was to 'merge' all of the contacts in my Google account. This then syncs with the phone and I never bothered to use HTC Sync.
Makes sense, I dont use the google address book as I tend to keep the data useage to a minimum mainly as when at work we dont even have a phone signal, so prefer to carry everything "locally" properly, hence the much abused and hated outlook ;0

Outlook Sync

I was wondering, if anybody found neat solution for syncing contacts between Outlook and x10.
free tools are like crap, most of insert duplicate constacts

Brother, I tried companion link initially then I proceed to get it purchased after a few days of using.
With companion link, you can enter all your contacts or calendars in your Outlook on our PC then it will automatic sync with your Google Account and the time to sync is depend on your setting whether you want it to sync everytime you boot up the PC or based on hourly basis.
Try it to see whether you like it.
thanks will give them try
Outsync - you run it on your PC, and it syncs your facebook contacts with your outlook contacts
Google has allready awaken in this agenda
It is at android-sync.com
I have made a try - so far it synces contacts only with minor bugs (does not sync contact pics...), but is promising to sync all neccessary Outlook agenda. Seems to be a solution for better Android dissemination...
I too am using companion link.
Been using it since I first got my X10a and very happy with it. I did have some problems with duplicate entries after upgrading to 2.1, but once I sorted it all out, it is working great.

HTC Sync

Does HTC sync work with the rezound? Outlook sync is very important to me. Thanks.

What do you use HTC sync for? If you use Outlook, your company probably has Exchange, and you can use the phone's native mail app to get all your email and calendar events (& contacts).
Are you checking work email or are you using Outlook at home for personal email?

Wookiefan - No need to get into a lot of a specifics as to my usage, as that doesn't change the question (but no, I am not on exchange).
The question remains:
Does anyone KNOW if HTC sync work with the rezound? Thanks to those who know.
Just curious since I never used HTC Sync. How is it different than syncing your google contacts and the phone contacts? If you create all the contacts under your G account, won't they always be everywhere?
No Cloud - Still looking for any answer; thanks.
It enables direct sync with your data in Outlook (useful, among other things, for those of us who are not entirely interested in having everything run through Google's servers).
For those familiar with ANY window phone, it would be identical to ActiveSync.
ANYWAY, all I am asking here is a factual question. Can someone who actually has the Rezound please let me know if HTC Sync is either included on a CD in the box, or is otherwise sitting in the root of the EMMC or SD Card. It is either there or it isn't, and I will take that as an indicator. Thanks so much.
I don't have a Rezound (yet; plan on getting one within the next month), but in my reading about it before getting one, I downloaded the User Guide from HTC's website. Pages 274 - 285 discuss using HTC Sync to sync your contacts and calendar to Outlook, as well as syncing photos, videos, documents, music, playlists, and bookmarks to your phone. You can even install third-party applications (.APK files) to the Rezound using HTC Sync.
It doesn't appear that it is included in the box with the phone (either on CD or on the phone), but can be downloaded from HTC's website. I'd provide links, but apparently I haven't posted here before, even though I registered more than two years ago.

Wow, and that didn't involve answering attempts at help with snarkiness. Just research. On the manufacturer's website. Wow.

[Q] HTC Sync manager after Jellybean update

Hi folks. I am just getting back to work after being out for the holidays. I updated to Jellybean and have been trying to sync to my Outlook calendar. HTC sync no longer appears to work so I removed that and added HTC Sync Manager. Well, this program will recognize the phone now, and will sync some calendar appointments, but misses about 70% of them. I have removed and re-installed HTC sync manager many times, but this still doesn't work. I'm on an XP computer from work. Previously the older HTC Sync worked flawlessly to sync all appointments. Any ideas?
Remove the previous HTC sync and plug in ur phone it should open an auto start with HTC sync and install it

I had this problem, sorted it by downloading HTC Sync Manager from the HTC site version 1.1.77.0, when it was installed the phone synced no problems, this is after having checked that the ealier 1.0.6... version of the software thought that it was the most up to date version. I was relieved once I found thatthe phone would sync again.

the version that you need can be found here... http://www.htc.com/www/software/htc-sync-manager/download/
Thanks, gang. I tried various methods of latest versions, older versions, the whole nine yards; it still wouldn't sync all appointments 100%. I went ahead and just move all my appointments to activesync and just do it that way. I had to make a few changes to how my work mail comes in now, but at least i can see my appointments again.
Sync Manager Issues with latest Jelly Bean update
Hi,
I´ve downloaded the latest sync manager using the link given or doing it directly from the HTC web page.
These are the problems I´m facing with my HTC One X:
1. Cannot use sync manager. When I try to sync my music with my phone the sync manager crashes when it reached around 3%.
2. I cannot access the information I have on my phones hard drive. I saved some document using it as a USB a couple of months ago and cannot access them because my phone is not recognised as a USB.
I´m using a MacBook Pro and not sure If the issues could be related to that.
I´ve been trying to fix this for a couple of week but cant and don´t know what to do. I´ve tried to contact HTC and they are not of any help.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
