Hey folks, I've searched and searched and nowhere can I find a definative answer. Essentially, the 'Enable DUN' option is *not* under Settings --> Wireless. I know my phone has it but I'm guessing it's Verizon. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Okay, so I can change the info using that method, but that is only good for USB or WiFi tethering, what about Bluetooth DUN capability? I can't see my phone as a Modem via BT when paired with my laptop.

Either way could work I suppose. I guess the test would be if I got the pop up saying I had to pay for the WiFi tethering. That's what I'm worried about.

I've yet to get it and I tether every night at work for Netflix on the laptop..and I work tens so I easily surpass the 5 gigs a month.
Edit: I also use wireless tether not 3g mobile hotspot.

Ah, okay. And it figures that the Bluetooth DUN Profile isn't even included with Froyo 2.2.1 for the Fascinate. Oh well.
Looking for a way to add it.

Before getting a 4G LTE usb modem for my laptop, I occasionally used PdaNet for bluetooth DUN... The free version worked fine for bluetooth, and as I recall, the license was for PC-based software to make the USB tethering work at full-tilt. I just used stock Windows7 DUN support to connect via my fascinate with the PdaNet activated.
If it were me, I would follow the url Tim shared and use the wifi tether .
What he said lol

I'm having some issues with wireless tether for root users v2.0.7. It activates just fine and I can find it when I search wireless. My devices claim to be connected but tether doesn't show anything as being connected nor can they access anything. Stock rooted with 1.8 kernel.

But version 2.0.7 isnt working for me... now that you mention it. On MikShift, Evervolv, CM7, MIUI GB, none of them.

wireless tether will only tether 4g for some reason or other. To tether 3g, you have to use the hacked sprint app (which just pulling the app will not work... the hack is actually in framework code), which you can find for mik's rom and nfinitefx's

It used to work with 3g, but it must have been an older version, I know it was still working on my wife's phone before I installed nfinitefx's on it tonight.
Huh... I never had it work with 3g on any version, and I tried about two or three versions back. Might have to try again

Thanks I do think that 2.0.5 was working and it broke after the .7 update (for the shift anyways). My wife's was still using the .5 while I had the .7 and mine wouldn't work. But I'm running MikShift on mine and NFX on hers now so I don't need the tether app anymore, for now at least.
I think this can be closed since 2.0.5 fixes the original issue, and my issue is solved since I'm running the hotspot tweak.

No the built-in app does not automagically sign you up for a tethering plan.

Correct....you are wrong. There is a Tethering & Hotspot section for USB or wifi tethering under Wireless & Networks (also available via the notification power widget if added).
As DroidTh3ory said, there are versions of Wireless Tether that work as well if you want some of it's features like mac filtering and such.
Ah I apologize for my ignorance I thought that was Verizons tethering

Hello, all. I am wondering if anybody can help me resolve a issue with wifi tethering .. I can't for the life of me, get it to work.. I'm using HTC Droid Eris rooted (unknown source) on cricket network, I see no errors while I start up and it says sharing connection, but I can't see it on any devices! I've tried, barnicale, Google's code site, and just about every other tether app I could find! Is this an issue with cricket itself, cm7, or maybe kernel!? Please help! Thanks in advance

Did you find a solution? 2.0.7 doesn't work for me either. the wireless tether hasn't worked for me since i flashed 7.1 CyanogenMod.
I am using CM7 and Barnacle works for me but I have to press both start and associate. I also have troubles with wifi tether.
I've been using cm7 for months and barnacle and the wireless tether 2.0.7 both work normally for me. You try wiping everything reflashing then installing apps one at a time to see if that fixes your problem?

I stopped using 2.0.7 a long time ago. It was killing my battery even while it was plugged in. Currently I am using the 3.x beta series of Wireless Tether (I am currently using beta 6) with KhosFroyo v39 (am preparing to move away from this soon) via Verizon Wireless.
Check to make sure you can access data using a web browser. Also check to make sure you can connect to a wifi network. If you can't find wifi networks with the phone, your wifi antenna may be damaged.
When using tethering, make sure wi-fi is disabled first (tethering will start it automatically).
Then start up tethering after defining the Eris in the profile settings. Your devices shouldn't have any problems seeing it. I've had up to 3 laptops + an Xbox 360 connected all at once.
whats rom-version you have?
I am using cm7 and barnacle. I can't use any security and had to change the custom wifi adhoc setting to hero/Eris.
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App
If you are trying to tether another device to your Eris, you need to make sure that the 2nd device can see "Adhoc" networks. You may need a different wpa_supplicant file on the 2nd device.
I'm running GSBv4.2 -CM7.1-11152011 with the Wireless Tether v2.0.2. I've used Barnacle on other ROMs also.
here i got this with a rom and it's worked on every rom i've ever flashed since i got it. copy both of em, use the the app with the green logo

Only tether suggestion that worked for me. Major props. Cm7 rom
Im using the Mac rom mr8 sr1 and I figured out the problem.. it was working the whole time, I jus was trying tether it to another android and a PSP.. and neither one of those support ad-hoc. So I flashed a wifi supplicant that lets the android connect to ad-hoc! I still havnt found a way to push the tether on an Eris into an infrastructure tether yet... so if anybody's seen that work, let me know.. I use both Samsung galaxy s and the eris.. it would be nice to have the Eris push out a normal AP, and not ad-hoc

Ok I've been curious about this for quite some time. I know using verizons "mobile hotspot" costs extra on your phone bill but what if I use wireless tethering for root users? Does that go through verizon and I get charged?

I use open garden tether and have never been charged.
I've always used Barnacle Tether. You need a custom kernel that eliminates the hotspots monitoring though if you want to tether.(most custom kernels eliminate the hotspots monitor)

OK... After sacrificing my ability to tether by moving from CM7 xronified to ICS, I have tried all kinds of combinations to tether my Epic 4G Touch to my TP on ICS (currently running CM9 alpha 2).
I came across the app foxfi in the market and it WORKS. I am still on cloud 9 at the moment, but has anyone heard anything bad about this app? It doesn't behave like open garden or wifi tether, but its freaking working. I am posting from the tethered connection right now.

What tethering app are you using?
I must be missing something, how is it possible that what version of Android your TouchPad is running effects your phones ability to be a wifi hotspot?
I have never had an issue with using the built in wifi portable hotspot in Android to tether my TouchPad. If you enabled that on your phone when you were running CM7 on your TP, how would ICS affect that.

Touchpad doesn't play so nicely with all tethers. Consider yourself lucky. Alot of people dumped their TPs because they couldn't get tethering to work. It is very buggy. All 3 of my TPs don't tether at will. In the past, there have been different protocols to get each to work. My hotspot could be seen by every other device I own, but my TPs couldn't see it. There are tons of bug threads relating to wifi, but nothing really talking about tethering. I saw a few other threads in forums for phones addressing touch pad, but why not have a place in the touch pad forum to bring it all to one spot?
Now Foxfi works with all three TPs and no ceremonial switches and reboots are required to get it to go.
Mine tethers from my Atrix perfectly with the built in setting. didn't know people were dumping their tp cuz of tether.

Dumb ?
Read what was here, but question:
Do I need to root my phone? I have the HTC Incredible 2, and am not trying to root that and just trying to connect my Touchpad (wifi-only) to my phone and be able to use internet, market, etc.
What apps and instructions would I need?
I thinking only people on Sprint (or Verizon?) have that issue....I tether my tp with my Samsung captivate on ATT all the time...so does my Sister from HTC sensation on Tmobile....
@Salvation27/: u csn try this app Clockworkmode tether

As far as I know, without rooting, you will have to pay for the hotspot service by your provider in order to tether. I would say try PDAnet, but I haven't heard of anyone successfully tethering via BT.

That could be the issue too. I will test it with some of my friends phones and report back (might be a day or two). I didn't think about a possible conflict with carrier specific phones.

According to the info on the Market, Foxfi does not require rooting. But you will need to check to see if it is compatible with your phone.
I have a rooted Bionic, works really sweet with it.

I use freetether on my pre2 to tether-via-wifi with my touchpad, works great.
You're right about the bluetooth. The option is there, and I can get everything to link up, but it still doesn't seem to be actually sharing the internet connection. I thought it'd be brilliant to get bluetooth tethering going (it should use a bit less energy to tether, giving me better battery life), but it doesn't seem to work in all the testing and fiddling I've done...
