[Q] Unwanted bookmarks, How do I get rid of them? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All I seem to be able to do is add them. Failing a 'proper' way to remove them is there a folder I can get to and delete them?
Phone is unrooted standard TMobile UK affair.

Which browser? If just the stock browser, just long touch the bookmark until it gives you a menu. Delete bookmark is one of the options.

That's what you'd think isn't it but unfortunately not the case on my phone. Delete is conspicuous by it's absence. I could if I wished
Open
Add shortcut to home
Share Link
Copy Link
Set as Homepage
but that's it!
Just spoken to T-mobile who were clueless. Told me to call Motorola. They did give me the correct number though and after a couple of IVR selections I got to talk to a real person. They told me the same that i should have a delete option. I then noticed that bookmarks I added do have a delete option. So it looks like the 22 preloaded T-Mobile bookmarks I'm stuck with!
Thanks anyway and if someone knows a way round this I'd be grateful.

All bookmarks can be deleted, added and edited using the Moto Phone Portal on a non rooted Atrix from a browser on another device.
On an Atrix originally destined for a carrier, mine is from Vodafone Germany, the first ten or so bookmarks cannot be deleted by the phone browser even if the phone is unlocked, bookmarks thereafter have the delete option enabled in the phones bookmark options. eg. You will see the delete option appear in the remaining bookmarks.
I use the Moto Phone Portal to change the initial 10 or so bookmarks to ones likely to be used permanently - the rest of the bookmarks can be fully edited within the phone.
Hope this helps.

Thanks

Indeed it did. Thanks very much. You'd think my operator or Motorola might have thought of that when I rang them! I have created a folder on my home screen with shortcuts to my favourite websites so that actually works better for me but all the same thanks again as this was annoying.

Removing bookmarks

Hi all, I've got an Australian version of the LG P500 which is branded by the carrier Optus. In the stock android browser, there is a bunch of bookmarks installed by Optus which cannot be removed. I have rooted my phone and was hoping that there would be some way to delete these bookmarks through root explorer or some other means.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
hey keyman, welcome to the forum XD I'm also from australia, but I bought mine from Crazy Jones XD Did you try holding on the bookmarks and a popup should come up asking if you wanna delete? Mine came clean, but I dont use the default browser, I changed to dolphin HD browser since it offers additional features in comparison.
Thanks for the welcome
Yes, I have tried that, but unfortunately there is no delete option for the Optus bookmarks. I am able to successfully delete my own bookmarks but not the Optus ones. Guess I'll just have to try using other browsers.
I was gonna refer you to a thread on whirlpool since I've read something similar... so there might have been a solution there, turned out it was you that had posted XDD
EDIT:
Since you've rooted your phone, is it possible to remove browser and reinstall it? I THINK the browser app should be available in marketplace, but check that it is possible to get it and install successfully before attempting.

i manage to get ride of those crappy bookmarks with SQLite Editor
after launch this application search for the Browser stock app then open browser.db then bookmarks table and mark with 0 in readonly column coresponding with bookmark you want to delete
after that you can delete it like your own bookmarks
Thank you so much for that! Worked perfectly! Finally got rid of all the useless carrier apps and bookmarks

If you have upgraded to version 5.0.0 sync to Google has been removed. In the options you will see backup and restore. Works like a champ and keeps them in alphabetical order as well.
I can't even sync from Google to phone. It just says 'Sync successfully' but no bookmarks appear in bookmarks. I already wrote to the support, so I hope they can fix it.

And what version are you using? If you look at my post above in current version 5.0.0 synch has been removed, so no matter how many times you click on synch it won't. All bookmarks to SD does now, is just that, saves your bookmarks to your memory card.
Are you sure? Because if they remove it then why is there the tab for syncing? And I wrote them that it didn't work and they just asked if I have newest version... strange. It is feature I am really looking for. I still don't understand why the default browser don't have bookmarks sync...
I will ask them again to be sure.
hey guys I know this is an old thread, but I was just wondering if a solution was ever found. I have the latest Dolphin HD and Bookmarks to SD, and I hit sync, but nothing is imported

That is because it isn't supported anymore you need to use backup and restore inside of the dolphin settings. From what I remember it was like version 6.9 or so they stopped using it.

Thanks for the answer! I read that in several different forums but it was never stated in any Dolphin forum so I just wanted to check... it actually sucks pretty bad and makes me want ICS even more so I can use the Chrome browser.
It works on my Streak 7 ICS build and it makes it real nice to be able to go from computer to tabler and have all that right there

They discontinued support because they did not agree with Google's privacy policy. Bad enough Big Brother knows what you are looking and for how long, but now they want to know what bookmarks you keep.... Am with you on ICS that is why I can't wait till the Note drops in prices, think Streak 5 seeing it was crushed by a bus in South Korea (hPA's work, _n0p_ said his skill set was well above his and was the one the few that might have made it happen....).

Yeah I hear ya... I was looking at one Saturday at the Samsung store at the mall, and it's lighter than my Streak but just a hair thicker since it has that rounded back, but that makes it more comfortable to hold, and the form factor is no larger than the Streak so I will definitely be getting one as soon as it comes down in price from the clouds or a good used one

[Q] Cannot delete bookmarks in browser?

Hi,
I have a Vodafone GS3 which has really irritating bookmarks which cannot be deleted on the browser. I've debranded to stock and am rooted, but the version of the browser I have installed still won't let me delete them...
Any suggestions? Is there a data folder where I can ding them directly from one of the folders behind the scenes? Or if I uninstall the browser does someone have the stock apk I can try to reinstall?
I tried installing the ICS+ browser but that comes up with the same bookmarks too..
Thanks.
Have you tried holding your finger on the bookmark for two seconds. When you do this, it opens a menu where you can have the option to delete the bookmark, rename and do other stuff.
Yeah, 'cannot delete this bookmark' message unfortunately..
I also can't even resort the order of the bookmarks to put the crap at the bottom. Pizza hut ffs!
Dude, what browser are you using? Try using Dolphin browser from the market. You can delete, rename, shift bookmarks and it is also very quick to open pages. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
Tried dolphin on my s2 and didn't get on with it, the stock browser is great for me.. I probably will try others, but even so I still don't like the fact the ad crap is there!
Try changing the CSC code. I debranded my o2 device but still came up with sent from my gs3 on o2 network, changed my CSC to BTU and all o2 references are gone. Could be similar thing happening with your bookmarks!

I have found a way to delete the bookmarks that can't be deleted.
1. download 'bookmark sort and backup' to back up your bookmarks
2. go to application manager, all, internet and force stop clear cache and then data
3. open internet and it should be as clean as a baby's bottom
4. open 'bookmark sort and backup' and delete the bookmarks you want and then restore them.
This worked for me with the German branded S3 with LF6 firmware and I got red of the 7 stock German bookmarks

ICS Browser Long Press menu share option

So with every HTC phone I've had in the past 3 years, its always had the option when long pressing on an image in the browser, to allow you to share it directly with other applications. I would use this feature everyday when sending out MMS messages.
Since updating my HTC Rezound to ICS, that feature is now gone. It would seem that ICS doesn't have this option anymore. I've had no luck in finding an alternative way to accomplish this.. Has anybody had any success in finding a workaround or a way of getting this feature back?
Thanks.

Been looking for the same thing since I've got ICS. My most requested feature. Figure anything out yet?
The chrome browser when long pressed gives the option to share. When selected it gives a list of option to share to i.e. email, text, social media. Is this what you are referring to?

I can't comment on whether or not chrome does this pre-ICS but post it does not. We are specifically looking for the option of long-pressing on an image and being able to share it through sms (not just the web address) or email, etc.
i guessim confused. i still have the option to longpress and save a picture then send it via eamil, text, etc.. from my gallery.

That's so backwards.. /sigh
I just tried this in Maxthon browser and it gave me the option to share....
I installed maxthon browser and while it does have the ability to share the image, it doesn't share the actual picture, just the url or of the image itself. This isn't the same as the other HTC phones where it would literally paste the picture to whatever application you specified.

Which means that it saves the image then opens the message app and attaches the pic to the message automagicly. You just have to so it manually now I guess.... that's kinda lame.

It does suck to have to save it to the gallery to share it. I came from an iPhone 4 and it was a nice feature to long press on an image in the browser, copy it, then paste it in email, messages or whatever. A 2 step process now takes 8 steps but it could be worse I guess. I wish there was a fix for this but I don't think we are going to get it.

Yes you can, open browser hit the bookmark tab at the top right of browser. When bookmarks opens hit menu > delete, and then small boxes appear at the corner of each bookmark click which ever ones multiple at a time. Then hit delete. I have done it every time I flash a ROM. I did it on stock as well.
In the bookmark Window you can also hit menu then have the option to change order move to folder etc. I just deleted all the stock ones I know I don't use then for the ones I will use I make a folder titled "stock" and place the couple of them in there. :good:
Your welcome

I believe you are looking for /system/csc/customer.xml
Deleting that file and clearing browser data got rid of them for me.
Are your Google bookmarks syncing to the phone? I know Chrome does it but the stock browser is much more powerful with text reflow and flash.
