[Q] Radiation? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this phone safe?Ive read that this phone has 1.47 sar(specific absorption rate)...wont it be a problem?

If you are so worried, then you shouldn't use any cell phones. Find a phone box and make your calls the old fashioned way. If you are going to get brain cancer from a cell phone, it's not going to matter which phone you use. Also, I would like to see where your concerns come from.
"Numerous studies have investigated the relationship between cell phone use and the risk of developing malignant and benign brain tumors.
The most significant study of long-term use is the 13-country Interphone study, which is a multinational consortium of case-control studies. Interphone was coordinated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) (3). The primary objective of the Interphone study was to assess whether RF energy exposure from cell phones is associated with an increased risk of malignant or benign brain tumors and other head and neck tumors. Participating countries included Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom (4).
Interphone researchers reported that, overall, cell phone users have no increased risk for two of the most common types of brain tumor―glioma and meningioma. In addition, they found no evidence of increasing risk with progressively increasing number of calls, longer call time, or years since beginning cell phone use. For the small proportion of study participants who reported spending the most total time on cell phone calls, there was some increased risk of glioma, but the researchers considered this finding inconclusive. The study was published online May 17, 2010, in the International Journal of Epidemiology (5). "
Taken from: National Cancer Institute

definitely not safe, In addition to cancer, there is a possibility of getting repetitive stress injury from swiping the finger reader. Also might get arthritis from holding it in the same position all the time. Hey, I hear the I-phones are different than all others. Ever try one of them?

You might have a thick boned skull, don't worry about radiation in that case.

You two need to chill. If a guy is worried about radiation, there's no reason why you guys should be making fun of him.

YMMV on this, based on who you talk to.
For a while people got concerned with the San Francisco Radiation Law.
Recently that too got scaled back.
There's also numerous cancer studies that suggest / don't suggest that this increases a risk to cancer. (too much to post)
From my own personal opinion, (and I'm just an "average Joe") Use Bluetooth whenever possible with ANY cell phone regardless of the SAR rate.
You could probably waste an entire month reading all the studies out there, but who knows if any are fudged one way or another. I mean tobacco seemed safe a while back too right?
Finally for anyone that is starting to get paranoid, just remember that you can get skin cancer from being in the sun too long without proper protection...

That's why thus is the Q and A section. So people can ask questions. If everybody did their homework we wouldn't have this section.

My point being, for some people it is too easy to just post questions in the forums without going to the trouble of even researching anything themselves first, and expecting the rest of us to magically come up with answers. As you will see, I posted a link to the National Cancer Institute page relating to this, so I did in fact help the OP, but why could the OP not have done the same quick Google search as me on the subject?
Yes, Q&A sections are for Q&A, but hey, would you like it if I posted questions like "will my phone die if I drop it in baked beans?", or "what will happen if I plug my wall charger into a 3 phase outlet at work?". Some questions can be easily answered without posting needlessly because you were/are too lazy to at least do some research yourself first. And if you have done some research, haven't found your answer, or don't understand what you have found, then post questions and show people you have at least made an effort on your own first.

What is this fallaout 3? The radiation the phone gives off isn't going to kill you.if you're worried text instead of call.

I wouldn't care. This is Q and A forum. He asked a legit question and was wondering about this device in particular.
He didn't ask if cell phones in general are able to give us cancer,.he asked about thus phone in particular.

There's troll questions, and then there's questions where people honestly don't know the answer and would like the help of others.
I could understand if this was posted in the Dev thread, but OP didn't do anything wrong...

Maybe you atrix guys should buy one of these sarshields ?
http://www.sarshield.com/index.htm
20$ to spend for your health isn't wrong at all.
Maybe someone of you have the possibillity to check the sar value by himself or in a near institute and post the difference.
I will buy one anyway for my sgs2 with low radiation and i will test the difference by myself, this will take some time too.
just my 2000 cents..

[Q] Maybe Google has gotten too big? Please Read!

Just read this article and hoping it's not true;
http://www.prisonplanet.com/google-shopping-censors-all-gun-ammo-accessories-results.html
I hope its not true because I love my android devices, if it is true, I will not support google anymore. I will not pay someone that would obviously advocte for no guns and violate someones freedomes to pursue it.
So if anyone can confirm or deny it please post.....
Ironically, most of the news from that site and infowars.com are true.
BTW, if you are not like Google to mess around your search results, use other search engines or go to your fiream supplies stores directly. There are sites where you can buy firearms, and you still can go to the site directly.
I also not have much problem with Google/CIA, even I am using ANdroid phone and tablet. I always make sure that all the info in my devices are not sensitive or private.

I don't understand why you would patronize a company that you don't trust, advocates for the removal of our rights and is actively working toward that goal? I would rather jump ship to another OEM.... given whats going on these days politically this cannot be worked around or forgiven... if its true of course...
I went to shopper last night and was able to find any itemfor a weapon. Guess we will have to wait and see.
It's pretty bad that you can search "how to hide a body" and get results but you can't find a legal ammunition to buy.

I just did a search for ammo, and it came up with no results...only on the Google shopping though. When doing a google search, it found all kinds of stuff. I think they are just stating that their shopping division will no longer sell or advertise...that is fine, and their right, as long as they do not block searches, i don't have a problem with it. It is their right as a company not to sell or advertise a product or genre of products.
First off, Alex Jones is a nutcase. He takes facts and turns them into tin foil hat wearing, Koolaid drinking conspiracy theories. He's mostly to be disregarded.
However, Google is doing this. They have a "progressive" agenda and are well-known to engage in censorship... and have been for years. I'm not going to turn this into a political discussion, so you can research that on your own.
Bing doesn't censor ammo and weapon searches.
So Google choosing to no longer sell guns some how takes your rights away? Considering they are a businesses and have the RIGHT to do so...
You can still use Google to find places to buy guns. They just want no part of that. Sounds pretty damn American to me!
You want to protest them for expressing their own opinions and beliefs? That's not American *edit* Yea it is American to do that. You just look like an @$$

Google has never sold guns.
Before this thread goes any further, I have only one thing to say: what almost everyone has said so far about Google censoring ammunition and weapons has been taken too far out of context and does not accurately represent the truth. They have ONLY, and I repeat ONLY been censored from Google Shopping, not any regular Google search. Do a Google search on "ammunition" and the first place that pops up is a website where you can buy ammunition. Search "where to buy weapons" and you get a myriad of gun shops. This is in no way infringing upon your freedoms, they're a business and they can operate however they want. They also still allow you to search for those results in general search queries anyways, so they're not completely censoring them. It's just against their policies in Google Shopping to allow for weapons or ammunition to be advertised through their services, likely because they do not want to be affiliated with such types of businesses.
Furthermore, this has absolutely nothing to do with Android or the Droid Razr, so it doesn't even belong in this section. This has to do with Google and how you're upset with it over this decision.
I think Google is doing the right thing.
Only idiots want weapons for private use (sry, but it's true. Look how many people get shot in the USA and compare those numbers to any other country in the world)
Nevertheless: This has nothing to do with the razr. Maybe you should've posted this in the general section of the whole forum, not the general section of the razr forum.

Yeah, that's why I try to avoid political discussions on this forum... there's always that one guy who has to say something like this.
Google created and controls Android. Google indirectly receives money from our phone purchases. There's an obvious connections between our Razrs and Google.

Google receives no money from our phone purchases, the manufacturers do... well, I guess they do now since they own Motorola, but generalizing to Android is not correct. They only make money from Motorola phone purchases. It doesn't mean that by buying Motorola phones we're supporting this decision, though. That's an inane conclusion to come to. Yes, we're supporting Google, but it does not immediately correspond to us supporting every single decision they make.
Well This is not a Droid RAZR topic and should have been posted else where in XDA. Locked

Do Samsung Read These Boards?

Do you all think the lads at Samsung who made the phone and do the updates read these S3 forums?
I'm pretty sure they do. It would make sense.
Yup they do , at least I know for SGS2 ...Even they answered on some things and matters...

I hope that's not true. There's no other way for them to get bug reports, or see what "features" are annoying users more than helping them.
Bugs in final firmware slipped through internal testing or else they wouldn't exist, and there's no bug tracking service unlike Android itself: you can only contact customer service (correct me if I'm wrong). They'd be very foolish not to read the boards, especially XDA.
However, the continuing presence of the cell standby bug is making me think they are perhaps just very foolish. The fix is so simple, I cannot imagine how they could have seen it and then still not implemented it.
I believe all manufacture do reading it, who knows some Dev work with them right.
If they are actually reading these stuff....then I just wanna tell them to make a replacement for the recent apps button....I mean long pressing the home button for recent apps sucks.....make a replacement plz.....we can do a bit faster multitasking with it...

Well reading the boards is one thing, but actually taking the comments for real is an entirely different matter. Not all the people online are honest for starters, and also don't forget phoney users who are actually plain old fashioned industrial competition.
One last thing coz I worked for a manufacturer once, is that they have a special department for watching that kinda stuff. Problem is if they listen to what these guys have to say coz most of the time they are much more busy doing research trying to stay ahead of the market rather than fix old dogs. And those geeks who know about XDA already know how to root the damn phone like myself and get the most out of it anyhow, so why bother. And for the other losers who don't know anything about Android, they seriously never notice the difference. Trust me... I worked for a manufacturer and I have heard the complaints myself. They are much more worried about getting their call logs back than by the bugs in the OS code !!

Any amount of Homebrew Apps and ideas end up on phones and consoles so it's obvious they reading forums to see what we want so other manufacturers aren't getting a head start on ideas.

[Q] Market Closed Inquiry

So I know the Market section is closed for sales and trades, no idea why. I am assuming it was due to some legitimate issues. But my question is will the Market section ever come back? I would assume that if it wasn't, the mod would have removed it all together, but its still there. Been trying to find a place to trade with people but not having much luck. Is there any place that people trade android devices?
It was closed because users were abusing it. Basically people scamming others and people were not taking the proper precautions to protect themselves when making a deal with another member.
Celltraderonline is a good website to check, quite a few of the well known xda member in the market place are over there.
Or if you rather buy a phone, swappa is a good site to check as well.

Yeah, I have only done one trade on here and it was great. It was a great feeling knowing that options like this are here for people that don't have alot of extra money to pay full retail value for devices. All well, hopefully in the future.

Are android users getting "denser"?

Is it just me, or has there been a decline in the quality of android users since the original G1?
It seems that people are interested in having a custom rom, yet are not interested in doing any of the leg work involved, nor are they interested in understand what rooting, s-off, bootloaders are, etc..
Is this just a side effect of android being more mainstream? Is this what happens when Android starts stealing away Iphone users?

I think it's because it's becoming more mainstream. You saw the same thing with Ubuntu taking more space for PC. Linux used to be relatively niche, people who had a certain amount of knowledge would use it, but most casual users would stay away.
It's a bit of a shame for the repetitive questions and having to lead people by the hand, but that also means programmers (apps, roms, kernels, etc etc) will get more interested in Android as it becomes more popular and thus lucrative.
They're just people. Just like you.
The term "quality android user" is a joke and would only come from a place of arrogance. I'm sure whenever any of you "quality android users" try to get service from someone in an area you're not knowledgeable in you're just as annoyingly dense.

That's what happens when things go mainstream & become popular. But you shouldn't say that people are of less quality. In the real world, people work jobs which take all of their time away from them, have to travel long distances & many hours just to get to & from work, have families to feed & take care of, etc... Many people just plain & simply don't have time in their lives to sit at a computer & spend hours of time trying to learn certain things, which is why they ask for help with things that they don't know. Please keep these things in mind. If you are more knowledgeable than someone, you really should try to politely help them, as opposed to just calling them stupid & of lower quality. We were all there once, & we all walk different paths in life. Life is rough. Be kind & help others, as you'd want them to do for you.
If people don't have time to learn what they are doing then they shouldn't be flashing roms.

In my opinion people (Adverage Consumer) are getting these cheap android based Samsung/HTC/Motorola instead of higher quality phones that are actually close to the same price and being influenced by us (Devolper/Modder) and have basically made them able to do it easy.

2. If you want a quick fix, remove some money and send it to a repair shop if you can't follow simple instructions.

It is true that due to the android os being popular or based in everything it has caused the lazy noobs to increase(quick fixers, complainers, etc) and i guess that is the effect of ppl who just want to show off what they can do with their device other than to assist to build the community up.
I currently obtain and use an Inspire 4G for 2yrs now, but the desire is to contribute as much as i can when i purchase a new device(more mobile apps and even rom development / collabs).
In theory, the more people that join in, the more roms should be developed, tested, and released

Lokifish: PayPal account was frozen due to multiple refund requests in a short period. I even had mine frozen at one point because of three refund request for donations made through xda in a week. PayPal froze my account, demanded that I issue refunds using another funding source even though there was more than enough money in the account. PayPal also took a month to give the money to those that requested the refunds and then took six months to let me have access to the near $500 in the account. During the six months they also blocked any incoming donations. In short, PayPal operates outside of FTC guidelines and could care less about the customer or vendor as long as they get paid.
As far as the rest of your noise. It's not a retail product where there are tens of thousands of these things sitting in a warehouse. Not a retail product, really, just like it wasnt a real backers product! I was never a backer, I was a consumer that pre-ordered with a promised December shipment that changed to mid Jan and now March with no reply(70 days since email and no reply) and a cancelled Paypal order with no refund!
Congrats Le Fish disguising yourself as a dev!
Buyers be aware that Omate and Rocki have split and Rocki have all the backers funds not to mention the pre-orders as well, Omate is broke and have lied their last lie!
Le Fish, protect Omate all you want, it wont save them and it wont stop consumers from receiving chargebacks from a scam company!
I have been a supporter of XDA since 06 and I have never seen such a scam as this I now urge XDA to shut down this scam and part themselves from this fraud! I know this is a scam and you Le Fish should be reported, reported!

This isn't funny - it's sad...
Why do you even connect XDA and Omate?
XDA is devs forum/portal and there's no connection between them.
Omate TS is out for many users and they have evey right to develop and share apps and infos.
I'm October dev too, so what?!
First, read KS "rules" - there's no 100% ETA, nothing is 100% is KS, that's funding platform and TS isn't first device that has/had some problems...
And the funniest part is - you find time to write that silly post but haven't had decency to read who is who?!
But hey, at least - it's funny, we don't have to read garfield today

Isnt it just, because its all about the thanks! Isnt it funny that the thanks button only started a few years ago(Ive been dormant long before that), before that i was partly responsible for bringing a custom ROM to XDA O2 Atom in 06 and HTC HD2 ROM dev, from which I received donations that were substantial, not that I wanted the donations, never-the-less I gave back to XDA and I gave back to devs, ask our most distinguished dev!
.
I have started this thread not to troll but to make other non suspecting users aware of the scam that is Omate and Rocki, believe it or not it is a scam!
I dont even care about the people trying to protect the scam AS ABOVE, I am not going to fall into your trap of troll retaliation, since you are!
Facts are facts and thats life, you replied and now lets let the forum consider what is right.

Oh? Is that why in the originating post you're mostly just accusing Lokifish of being Laurent Le Pen? You're attacking a freelance dev, and for what, because Omate shat in your Wheaties? Wow, I know people talk about first world problems, but this takes the cake. I suggest you try going outside sometime, there are WAY worse things in the world then a dev wanting to improve a watch he likes.
So you bought a pre-order from a company you found on kickstarter that was at the time clearly struggling with development and schedules, and you want a medal from us all?
By the time pre-orders opened, wasn't it already clearly known that Omate were part of Umeox (so you knew exactly what you were buying into). And you still jumped in?
This is the most amusing part of the story so far.

I did report you, however, I dont think you need more exposure in this section, every second post/thread is yours and whilst I think on one hand, youre a great help, very informative, on the other hand, to every negative post you are fast to protect Omate, even in FB G+ etc you are very fast to protect Omate no-matter-what! Sorry dude as much as I want to think you are just a 'random dev' helping a 'random company' I wasnt born yesterday and neither were the XDA community!

"Le Fish" has no vested financial interest in Omate. I know this to be a fact.
He really is as you say: "just a 'random dev' helping a 'random company'", his only perk being that he was given a watch for development purposes.
And no, I am not part of this "conspiracy" lmao. I have an Omate because I was a KS backer and that is all.
While this has been entertaining, I think it's time to slow your roll on the accusations, because most of what you imply is not based on truth.
For the record - Lokifish Mars is NOT Laurent Le Pen. I know this to be a fact.
I'm going to leave this thread open because maybe some productive discussion may end up out of it. If that turns out a mistake, I will reverse this decision and shut it down.
Have a great day!
Thank you. I did not really feel the need to wade through the Omate employee/troll/fanboy/hater stupidity again. My shrink already gets enough money as it is. :good:
Thanks for not closing thread, maybe I have been hasty in accusations, however, I still stand by my posts, most of what I wrote is fact. No apologies to anyone offended or otherwise, seems arrogant yes, no, it isn't.
Those who have been taken for a ride like myself need to stand up and express their distaste in a less than, OK experience with the fore mentioned and aforementioned company.
Today I was finally replied to by, no not Omate, but Rocki, whom I contacted after nearly 60 days of no reply of 3 emails(politely)to Omate for a refund!
Rocki's reply was patronizing if not belittling to say the least, using ridiculous font size differences within one sentence that made it hard to read and seemed as though they weren't serious in their response. I have already started process for a charge-back from CC company, however I wanted to open this thread to warn others of these terrible business ethics in a hope no more ppl would be scammed!
Im embarrassed to have trolled up an XDA founder(I love fishing, seriously in real life I love it, I dont mean founder is a troll, nor do I mean I am trolling) I have said my piece and peace.
You got a reply about refunding your Omate TrueSmart kickstarter pledge...from Rocki ?
Was it from Cecelia by chance ? I have never been sure if she works or worked for Omate or Rocki or both.
Please share as much of the email's contents as you feel appropriate. I hope you either get your refund soon or your TrueSmart. If you get your watch, don't feed it after midnight !

Ok, just making sure I got this straight.
The original post is basically accusing a dev of being a CEO of a company in a form of a personal attack
The hidden message in that post is to watch out for the company
That message is in fact a horse that's been beaten to death in practically every avenue (Facebook, G+, Here on XDA, Omate Kickstarter, and in the Omate forums). So, in other words, the people being warned were curious enough to come to xda but ignore every other avenue of information regarding the watch, including other posts on XDA. Furthermore, instead of having a clear topic title like "WARNING blah blah", it's called "awesome watch"
Yet this is to warn...I think I'm missing something. Must be good drugs.
@ Homer: although I do understand you are frustrated with Omate, I hope you realized by now you were wrong in your accusations about Loki. I can say with certainty that you haven't been following these threads for the last 3+ months, otherwise you would have known Loki doesn't hide under his avatar, had his real name revealed on a few occasions, and I even remember he posted a picture of some smartwatch package he received with a full disclosure of his mailing address. I don't know where the original quote in your 1st post came from, but it sounds like PM exchange with some personal info (reference to Loki's paypal account) where you should have used a better judgment regarding what to reveal.
You want to voice your dissatisfaction with a company, this is a free forum and you have every right to share your opinion. But attacking one of the members who put so much work into this project and who has been nothing but a help to everyone in here - I insist that you DO owe him an apology. I don't care if you want to post it here or send him a PM, but do the right thing man. If you have beef with Omate, take it up with them, but a freelance developer and a father of newborn baby who spent so much of his time working on the device because he wants to help others, doesn't deserve this crap.
A blind man and his guide dog enter a bar and find their way to a barstool. After ordering a drink, and sitting there for a while, the blind guy yells to the bartender,
"Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke ?"
The bar immediately becomes absolutely quiet. In a husky, deep voice, the woman next to him says,
"Before you tell that joke, you should know something. The bartender is blonde, the bouncer is blonde, and I'm a 6' tall, 200 lb.blonde with a black belt in karate. What's more, the woman sitting next to me is blonde and she's a weight lifter. The lady to your right is a blonde, and she's a wrestler. Think about it seriously, Mister. You still wanna tell that joke?"
The blind guy says, "Nah, not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times."

You forgot to add that "his" guide dog is in your avatar picture
Btw, I was made aware that PP quote came from another public post by Loki, another example that guy has nothing to hide...
After 3 months I have finally got a response and refund, however, with currency exchange I have lost money and that is unacceptable!
If you have issues with Omate then I strongly recommend you contact not Omate but Rocki, they were instantly helpful and got the refund done in days.
