You cant run it from windows. you have to run it from the command line.

Read http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Fastboot <----THAT to understand fastboot. Shouldn't be any more questions.

I'm a total noob at rooting and stuff, but after spending the last few hours trying, I found another way to do it. Download the Clockworkmod file, as posted, and download the file mentioned under the "To root" section; put this second file onto your sd card. I just transferred it using Windows.
Extract the recovery file somewhere you'll remember it. (I used Downloads.) Now, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638 and download Android Flasher. (Make sure your Aria is hooked to your computer.) Run Android Flasher, and select "Recovery". (It's one of the options on the left side). Navigate to the location of your recovery.img, and select it. The phone should switch itself to fastboot, then install clockworkmod. It then goes right into clockworkmod, and you can follow the steps listed to install the root.
Once I found the thread on Android Flasher, I had clockworkmod and root within about 90 seconds. Just downloaded and installed Titanium Backup, and it asked for superuser rights, which I granted, so it seems to be working for me.
I hope this is clear enough; I'm a bit tired right now. It was an easy process....after my three hours of trying command lines and stuff. Sigh.

it don't get no easier.THANK YOU!!!

i have european aria version (gratia) with 2.2 froyo and 1.00 hboot (not 1.02 as the aria).

No, you will probably need to flash the AT&T 2.2.2 Froyo update to get HBOOT 1.02

Install the old software after AlphaRev-ing...
Don't know if this will work for anyone else, but I was able to do the following:
1. Run AlphaRev on newest HTC Aria
2. Install the 1.25.502.12 HTC ROM over the 2.2 ROM (previously impossible due to the new HBOOT)
3. Run Unrevoked
4. Install CM7/Google Apps through ClockworkMod

Once you are s-off you can use fastboot to flash clockworkmod then install your rom of choice. No need to downgrade and unrevoke. Attn1 has posted the instructions on how to flash clockwork from fastboot a couple of times in Aria threads.

You have to update to HBOOT 1.02.0000 before you can use this. Installing the AT&T 2.2.2 official update is the easiest way to do that.

Newbie Help! Upgrade to 2.1

Hey all,
Im very new to the android scene, ive got a HTC Hero G2 on T-Mobile on the UK. I been reading alot of the forums im kind of lost. I want to upgrade my current firmware 1.5 to 2.1. Below is my phones details, ive seen on youtube how to upgrade without rooting, but do i need to root it in order to upgrade?...
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband Versions: 63.18.55.06FU_6.35.07.08
Kernel Version: 2.6.27-0089c992
Build Number: 2.73.110.26
Software Version: 1.0.0.A6288
Any help greatly appreciated.
first thing you want to do is get a custom recovery image, preferably amon ra 1.6.2.
i'm not sure what method you can use to install it, but you can find out about that here in the forums. easiest method would be to fastboot it, using FlashRec is also not that complicated, and last would be the goldcard as it might be a hassle to get it to work.
once you have the custom recovery installed it is all pretty self explaining.

Indeed. BTDAG's guide linked in my signature is an excellent place to start. Bookmark it. Read the whole 1st post including the FAQ,... then start playing!!!
Thanks alot guys.
I have managed to do the goldcard method and the custom image recovery using amon ra 1.6.2.
So, from this point onwards do i just select a custom ROM from the forums?... and just apply that?..
Also, can i just install this RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.27.651.5_R_signed_release (sprint 2.1) or will that not work?...

Do NOT install the sprint releases! They are for CDMA hero's only. It will most likely brick your phone. Just select a custom rom and flash that when the official 2.1 update is finally released (and the kernel) the custom roms will be updated with it and they will finally become fully stable.

as stated already, installing sprint roms on gsm hero will brick it, so don't.
besides from that you don't want to install any RUU that is available, unless you want to go through creating the goldcard again.
go to one of the threads here, download the rom's zipfile, put it on your sdcard, boot to recovery, select "flash update.zip from sdcard" and let it do it's thing. if it doesn't boot at first go back to recovery and do a wipe.
have fun!

[Q] 2.07.605.x Backout

I installed 2.07.605 leaked version on my rooted Froyo using hboot, bad mistake on my part, because I did not flash it and the recovery option in hboot does not work for me. I did not read about locking the bootloader method by Shadowmite until afterwards. Does anyone have a method to change the bootloader to an earlier version so that I can obtain root access or revert to Froyo?
I have tried to put fixed bootloader files and the original stock Froyo in PG05IMG files on my SD card to force an update, but that does not work either.

Go to http://revolutionary.io and use their tool. I don't think the old manual root method will work on that build as it is. !!!BUT!!! Be warned: getting back to stock unrooted s-on after using Revolutionary (like for a warranty replacement) is not a simple task at this point in time.

[Q] Revert htc rezound to stock

Hey everyone,
I want to revert my HTC Rezound to stock. I am currently on gingerbread rooted but my root is not working at all in ADB or any other apps and I think I rooted incorrectly, is there some way I can run an SBF or something like that and just flip back to the stock non rooted rom and start all over?
If not, can someone link me to some instructions or post some instructions on how I can revert my htc rezound completely back to stock?
Thanks,

I usually use the exe. It will walk you through the steps on your PC. Or I believe you can flash the .zip from recovery with choose zip from SD option. You will have to have the bootloader locked to run them though.

So I am downloading the exe right now and it will finish in 2 hours or so, are you saying that if I am trying to run it I need to have to have a locked bootloader?
I know mine is unlocked right now, do I just lock it from the HTC website? If so what do I need to lock it again?

You lock it in fastboot with "fastboot oem lock" command without the quotes. No need for HTCdev in this case
Before going through the RUU, try the Unsecured kernel if you wish to run root commands through ADB.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443324
It is an overclocked kernel. If you don't want it you need to lower the max cpu clock with CPU Master.
Ok just re-locked the bootloader through fastboot in CMD, if I want to unlock it in the future can I just do fastboot unlock or whatever?
I am going to run the RUU .exe right now, I take it you just do that all from the bootloader?
Thanks,
Ljbaumer

1. Yup, just hold onto the unlock_code.bin
2. Have it name PH98IMG.zip, make sure you are either s-off or on GB firmware. Have you flashed the ICS leaked firmware?
I am in the middle of flashing the .exe RUU from my computer and I was just on GB Sense rooted (kinda it was funky) and I just wanted to go back to stock and then unlock, root, and install clean rom and whatever kernel I need with that.
I think I still have my unlock_code.bin from my first unlocking, I am not sure if I have PH98IMG.zip still though... if I don't have it where would I get it from?
I would like to install this rom, can I just go straight from stock HTC sense after the RUU and install it using the instructions on the ROM thread or do I have to unlock my bootloader again? If so can someone link me to some step by step instructions or just post them in the thread?
Thanks for all of the help,
Ljbaumer
Installation of the rom is listed halfway down the first post. Since you are running the January RUU. you will need to flash the old firmware patch in the Cleanrom folder on you're SD card. You will need to be unlocked. Don't forget to re-flash Amon RA & delete any current PH98IMG's off your external sd card.
EDIT:
Oh also, your freshly RUU'd rom. Let it boot to a home screen at least because you will need to get access to your SD card.

[Q] Stuck on stock gingerbread ROM missing files

I'm currently using a Macbook Pro and NOT Windows PC. I rooted my Rezound March 2012 with PC at time. Well awhile back I had accidentally deleted some system files from stock gingerbread 2.3.4 ROM. Now i'm not able to update my device to ICS to make use of the global capabilities. I installed Scotts ROM 2.3.4 a copy of it but it never recovered the system files that were missing. I would like to be able to S-Off (couldn't perform wire trick) and flash either CM 10.2 (Jelly Bean 4.3) or CM 11.0 (kitkat 4.4). I've read without being on stock baseband radio (ICS) I'm not able to perform a flash to new ROM. Anyone have any suggestions to proceed further? Thanks!
Well first of all you can use rum runner from the general section to soff with out wire trick. You say that the gingerbread boot loader doesn't support fastboot?

That's exactly what I was telling pball52998 I had planned on doing. Except with mac it's difficult and without being able to get to ICS with the radio capabilities I can not go that route. I need to obtain stock gingerbread containing ALL system files including the system OTA update file I originally deleted. When i had to re-do my phone over a year ago and re-flash gingerbread because my device was messed up I was NOT able to access files that I had deleted in system. I was supposed to freeze them not uninstall originally. Unless there's an ICS unoffical ROM with all working radios and global capabilities then I'm forever stuck on Stock gingerbread. Do you understand? And using another persons PC is a no go because i have to install software ADB on their computer and I'm 100% sure they would not be ok with it at all. It's getting late here now. so goodnight to you. :good:

ADB doesn't need to be installed, you can just drop the files into a temp folder, run what you need and delete them.
As for getting your phone up to ICS, this will wipe your phone (including the Internal SD, back up anything you want off to your computer), upgrade your phone to ICS and the hboot to 2.27 which is sufficient for installing JB/KK roms.
As long as your hboot is 2.27 or older and your bootloader is locked, it should work fine, follow the directions on the page. If none of the mirrors work, Raventech has it posted in a thread here also.

1) I wanted to remove all the AT&T stuff including their update check which doesn't work with T Mobile SIM. (But not able to do it even after uninstalling with Titanium, those just come back on restart)
2) I wanted KitKat (either like an unlocked or international HTC one or the Google Play KitKat)
But I am not sure how to proceed.
I already have downloaded a ROM from this link: htconeroot.com/htc-one-stock-roms/android-4-4-kitkat-sense-5-5-stock-rom-for-htc-one
But not sure about S-OFF/ON etc because I am a newbie, this is my second android phone and first rooting.
Can anyone give me step by step instructions to install either a google play kitkat or a pure sense 5.5 kitkat? I would prefer if I can do this just once now and get future updates automatically from google/htc.
Mine is Android 4.3 based Sense 5.0 with all the AT&T stuff. I am in the US.
There is no real difference between AT&T Kitkat and Jellybean on the One. In fact there are a few bugs with Kitkat. Such as the camera and a few others that have been posted.

I'd say switch to the Developer Edition rom, it doesn't contain all of the AT&T bloat.
1. Unlock the bootloader here.
2. S-Off via rummrunner or firewater.
3. Change CID to BS_US001 'fastboot oem writecid BS_US001'
4. Install Developer Edition 4.3 RUU, get it here.
5. Take OTA to 4.4.2.
There are guides in the One General and Q&A sections that cover all of this. Do a lot of reading, and then ask questions as needed.
Thanks. Any more Info?

Thanks a lot Schmitt. I think that is exactly what I have to do.
My bootloader is already unlcoked, Also I think I can handle Step 2 and Step3. Could you please pour or point me to more info on Step 4 and 5. Links to discussions here or other links will do. Being a newbie I am totally confused about stock, kernel, RUU etc.

The RUU is easy, it is a complete software package for the phone that will restore it to the original software of the Developer Edition phones.
For the RUU to work, the CID (carrier id) must be set to BS_US001. This why you'll need to s-off the phone, so that you can change the CID.
Go to http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads and select 'Brightstar US' as the carrier, then 'Find Files' and download the 'RUU 3.22.1540.1 Developer Edition'. It is an EXE, just run it with the phone connected to the USB port of the computer and it will walk you through the install. After it reboots you will have developer edition 4.3, then update to 4.4.2 by OTA, just check in the Software Update menu in settings on the phone. It will download a file to the phone that will update it.
rumrunner didn't work

rumrunner gave this error:
unfortunately this isn't going to work out with your configuration. you have 2
options:
1.) flash an unsecure kernel that's compatible with your ROM and retry rumrunner
(preferred and most reliable method).
2.) flash a different rom.
NOTE: No amount of messing around with su binaries and apk's is going to fix thi
s issue for you!!!.

Flash the ElementalX kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40682393 and try again.
It's unsecured and should make rumrunner successful.
Thanks. It's S-OFF Now

Thank you again. I installed 4.3 RUU and OTAed to KitKat.
Very much satisfied and happy with it.
Some questions:
My root and custom kernel are gone. Even the TWRP recovery is lost.
Do I need to flash TWRP as recovery again? And install SU and 4.4 ElementalX again for root and getting the kernel? If yes and if I do these, will my future OTAs be blocked?

Yes
yes and Yes
you get future OTA by returning to stock first (flashing stock recovery will sometimes be all that's needed)
How do I flash stock recovery?

How do I flash stock recovery? If that alone doesn't work, is a complete installation with RUU the only way?

Flash it using fastboot just like you would flash TWRP. The stock recovery can be pulled out of a firmware.zip.
Could not find the recovery image

I got the notification for 4.19.1540.9 update. I was about to go back to the stock recovery to update this.
But could not unzip the recovery image from the RUU zip
(PN07IMG_M7_UL_JB43_SENSE50_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_3.22.1540.1.zip). It was not unzippable and even after repairing it with zip_repair tool I could not get the recovery image.
Also I downloaded recovery_1.29.1540.16_R.img from another xda post. That didn't work. After giving start update, it was stuck at a red triangle with a warning sign.

I think both of those recoveries are too old, you need the one for your currently installed kitkat version.
Any idea where can I get it?

I can't find the 4.19.1540.x version but I believe any 4.19.x.x version will work.
I think the stock recovery may be in this dark bootloader firmware download .
http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/firmware-downloads/
Get the 4.19.401.8 download and see if the recovery.img is included.
Best I can come up with for now.
No. That doesn't have it
