Has anyone been able to get Hulu working on the HTC flyer? If so, how did you get it to work? Thanks for any information!
PlayOn works...ish.
AFAIK, the only way to get Hulu running on Android requires root. There are system files you need to change in Flashplayer, to it spoofs Hulu into thinking you are on a desktop computer. So until root is achieved, probably no Hulu.

I have root on my View now, so what's next?
You can try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153196
I haven't tried it yet. Its for the Galaxy S II, but past Hulu hacks have worked pretty much regardless of device. This one runs a script at every reboot, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Back up your ROM to be safe.
And I'm not sure that the Flyer meets the following requirement:
Kernel with init.d support (most custom kernels with root support) and root

Any custom ROM has init.d for the Flyer.
I don't want to lose sense though. I tried the above link and can only assume its the lack of unit.d that made it not work.

Only custom ROMs? Does stock have this? I'm personally still running the stock ROM.
Let's revisit this since Hulu is reportedly now available on the Flyer. Anyone have any luck on the Flyer or the View? It doesn't show up in the market for the View.

A few months ago i found the .APK and installed it on my flyer. until yesterday, i kept getting the message that it wouldn't work on it. Now I can play the free gallery videos with no issues. I am on a stock flyer.
Can you post/link the apk? A cursory look didn't dig it up for me.

Hulu Plus and custom rom
On any custom rom Hulu Plus hangs and says it is buffering. Hulu Plus works on my s-off rooted stock rom. What do I need to edit to get Hulu Plus to work on a custom rom?

WTF??? A quick Google of SPH-D700 shows that to be the Samsung Epic 4G, which is a Sprint phone. The I9100 is a GSM phone. Sprint is a CDMA network. I hope you're planning on changing carriers if you hope to use the I9100.
Unless you're just confused, and actually ordered a Sprint variant of the Galaxy SII, which is the SPH-D710, or as they call it, the Epic 4G Touch.
Just so I'm clear, the I9100 will NOT work on Sprint's network.
Yea I'm aware that I am on sprint right now. I am aware that the i9100 is GSM, and yes I will be using att.

Hey, I had to check. Some folks just make uninformed decisions and are baffled when the equipment they order doesn't work on their network.
LP6 with my GPS fix works pretty damn well. FM Radio is the only real issue I have encountered. If you want a more ICS experience, push trebuchet or NOVA launcher to /system/app and it will be much better.

It's so popular it's one of those phones - like Desire HD - that's known inside and out Been out in europe for ages, but the US had better carrier specific devices, faster CPUs, etc. At it's core the same device mind.
I was in no rush for ICS but tried WanamLite and all was fine, although the launcher freezes now and then which I put down to a full phone, and an early rom.
This used the CM9 trebuchet launcher. I've got to say almost everything about ICS is cleaner, faster, smoother than previous roms - custom or not. Easy task control, nice display, and little things I still keep discovering like when you connect via USB you get a choice of media device or camera (with the usual USB development option off).
I've had this thing months and must have flashed 50+ roms lol. In the end I stuck with Leomars then the combined Leomar/Checkrom HD because of the kitchen app for easy addons and upgrades.
If youve never used a samsung dont worry, its usually a simple app that will root it and install a recovery console <- very important, cause after that you can flash anything, and as long as you get back to recovery youll be fine. Backup often - complete rom via the recovery (power on, vol down) and a data/app backup with Titanium.
I don't think you need worry about ADB or odin anymore, but if you do just follow instructions on this site...
Your reward? the best phone around esp if the rom you use adds neat things like Jkays extensions, modded apps, kitchens, good theme engine, etc. For pure Android go for AOSP roms, otherwise they're a mish mash of parts.
Change the boot anim if you want, you might get a yellow warning triangle because the sammy knows the roms "illegitimate" but its easily removed.
Finally, should you need to, the stock roms and kernels and modems are here too if you need to get everything back to default, best get them quick as the download sites are dissapearing, or rip yours first before you burn another...
Have fun! You couldn't pick a better handset right now

Just FYI. Bold/Italic/Underlined part is not exactly true. Some of the US carrier specific models have completely different hardware, and have faster clock speeds because they use inferior CPUs.

From what I can tell, you need the insecure KJ2 kernel. That kernel is no longer directly linked on Odia's insecure kernel page, but there's a link to his Hotfile upload site where all older kernels are stored.

I am officially rooted. Thank you very much. now to get CWM installed!
I'm thinking on installing NottachTrix4G on my ATT Atrix. It's currently rooted, and unlocked, running 4.5.91.
I can't seem to find any reviews or recommendations for NottachTrix4G.
Can anyone comment on their experience with it, if you already have it? Also, is there an install guide somewhere?
Thanks
Welcome to the forums! Read the actual thread for Nottachtrix. The developer is very much so respected, and has a huge number of fans that use his ROM, your best bet is to just give it a shot and use it for a day or two to see if you like it. Don't forget to nandroid back up your current setup before wiping anything that way you you can very easily switch back if you are dissatisfied. All it takes is a SEARCH, figured I would be the nice one before you get flamed with a million "Use search!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" replys

I moved from Wet Dream to Nottachtrix. So far, I've found the rom to be completely solid, all features working as advertised and without glitches on my end. At whatever point he releases his compatible ICS theme, I'll be a very happy camper.
About the most painless way to get up to 4.5.141, I'd say!

Unlocked bootloader, rooted, the dev post says Wet Dream was 4.5.140. Had to back up apps and SMS data, obviously, but you don't have to "get your phone back to stock" in order to flash this rom -- just make a nandroid backup and give it a shot.

Its very nice rom the wayt it comes and you can choose what you want to add or remove its really great you should try it.
You can also go in and freeze more processes as well and right now man i got about 520 mb free and scoring around 6300 on antutu.
Its not like cm7 builds but you can use webtop and an alternative if you want to stack stock mainly for me its because i use my webtop.
try it it's pretty cool
I thought wet dream was awesome, this ROM is even better. I just downloaded it today and no complaints.
+1 for you to download.

Previous State
ROOT, UL BL, 2.3.4/4.5.91, Alien ROM
I accidentally hit the update option when it popped up on the screen instead of hitting later. Then I the wifi off on my phone and that prevented the update from being downloaded. I tried to do a couple of things to prevent it from downloading
1. Freezing Upgrader 2.3.4 using TiBu - This did not work.
2. Using CWM - Cleared cache etc and this did not do the trick either.
So, I finally gave up and used UncleCemka's guide to upgrade to 4.5.141 (2.3.6) and it was successful.
So, present state
ROOT, UL BL, 2.3.6/4.5.141, Stock.
Can I flash NottachTrix4G? The thing I miss the most is the WebTop over HDMI
Thanks in advance,

Yes. It'll work fine. It doesn't mess with the webtop partition, so you'll need to re-do the HDMI exploit or flash the 2.3.6 webtop fruitcake which has that fix worked in.

Here you go. It's the Fruitcakes thread over in the dev forum.
now: you took the OTA update, which I'm pretty sure updated your webtop as well. The webtop fruitcake says 4.5.140; this may or may not be precisely the same version as your current one. With that in mind, I might try redoing the webtop-over-HDMI hack first since it's a pretty simple procedure and keeps your current version intact.
They just released a new hulu for 7 tablets, including TFP and when i went to play a video i got the error message "streaming unavailable [91]"

Works fine on .21. Why not update?
up until recently updating was not available to people with unlocked bootloaders, but someone made a zip of it and it works great btw and so i used supersu to retrick my root and my root checker did not say i was rooted (cause i was) and i reinstalled hulu plus and still have the same results, sigh. i would say this problem is only going to be for people rooted, running custom roms and unlocked bootloaders, i am going to do a full unroot and report back if i have success. It did not... help?

You are confusing your terminology. Rooting and ROM are 2 seperate activities.
Rooting gives you super user access allowing full control of usually the factory installed ROM .
A ROM is a new, upgraded, version of android software. You really need to read a bit to help yourself out when running stunning into problems.
Provide some more detailed information as to which NT you have, what exactly you did to it.

Honestly you need to read a lot more. It will help you out by giving you an understanding of both what and WHY you are doing something not just being spoon fed information. If you don't understand it in the least bit, how can you expect it to perform how you want it to?
Anyway, a stock B&N Rooted OS has trouble running a lot of games. In stock form It really is only a glorified E-Reader despite the hardware specs. Rooted makes it a little better, though not much. Read up on installing a new ROM. Install CM 7 or CM 10 via SD card. You will find that you hate the stock OS after playing with a true Android interface. A new rom makes it like a Nexus 7 or any other 7" actual tablet.
I know I've said that rooted stock works very well. It does if you know how to get around certain limitations.
There are workarounds, but maybe you should try another ROM anywway.
I would not suggest you try to install it internally until you know more about what you're doing, but if you put CM10 on a sd-card and run it from there you can't mess anything up.
There is ready-made image here http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/
but since you'll be using 2 NTs at the same time I understand there will be a conflict between them if they run from the same card image. But start by making one anyway and see how it works!

Rooting simply opens up administrative control of the NT but does not change the base OS of its stock ROM which is the ~2 year-old Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread. Many current apps (especially those recently introduced) will not be backward compatible with Gingerbread. I ditched the rooted stock ROM the moment I found out simple apps like AccuWeather or NPR would not install/run on it.
If you want to be able to run just about any app, I'd suggest that you go for a CM10 ROM (don't bother with CM7 (it's also based on the old Gingerbread) or CM9 -- neither ever got passed beta builds for the NT and are no longer supported).

Well, I ran several of "incompatible" apps while on rooted stock. Including Angry Birds. And several of those apps are still "incompatible" while running CM10. So I still have to use workarounds for them. Angry Birds doesn't seem to need it though. (I like to fiddle and don't minds workarounds.)
I just purchased an Xperia Z4 Tablet and have been researching the different options when rooting. It seems like the AndroPlusKernel is the most popular choice but I'm not entirely sure why. From what I can tell, that will allow me to use the stock ROM and as such it may be the most issue free?
Another popular option appears to be the CyanogenMod 13. I know that the kernel and ROM are different and I can choose either or both. But after reading through quite a number of posts, I'm not sure what this custom ROM offers that I can't get by just doing AndroPlus followed by some cleanup of unwanted bloat. And would anyone actually want to use both?
Can anybody else provide some insight and direction? I'm not looking to do anything crazy extravagant here, just root access to allow for ad-blocking as well as some additional functions I don't get with stock.
Thanks for helping me learn!

Exactly. AndroPlusKernel is the only custom kernel available for the stock ROM. The stock ROM is the only thing available that runs totally fine. CyanogenMod and derivatives have only just popped up and are still having issues. Even if there were no issues left, I have learnt throughout the years on different Android systems that (rooted) stock will probably run smoother and better battery-wise.

With Xposed you can add a lot of functionality that years ago you had to flash a custom ROM for. I don't miss anything in stock+root+xposed that I remember from the old days using AOSP-variants on my previous Android devices.

Actually, stock ROM is supposed to be used with no root and tweeks. For example, YouTube background module for YouTube works with the bug, it just stops to play videos after a while. Only reboot helps to fix it. And according to stability, Resurrection remix is the same stable as stock ROM. Moreover, custom ROM is much easy and faster to upgrade. No flash tool needed, with loss of data.
Battery life with custom ROM is good.
