Hi all,
My work Exchange account enforces security on my SGS2 which requires password protection. Only PIN and password is allowed, I cannot choose swipe gesture (annoying btw, is there a hack for that??).
I have a four-digit PIN set as it is the quickest to enter. It is still a bit irritating however to have to enter it and hit OK every time I check my phone, regardless of whether I locked it 10 seconds ago or 10 hours ago.
On my iPhone I could set the autolock not to engage until after 20 minutes of no interaction. I haven't found this setting on my SGS2 but I'd really like to have it.
Is there a way to accomplish this?
Thanks for all help!
Me too!
Exactly the same here. Annoyingly, some colleagues using IPhones also sync with exchange and don't appear to have the same problem with enforced security.
I'd love to hear the responses to this thread, but in the meantime, this is all I have to offer:
Talk to your sysadmin and see if the permissions can be changed at the exchange-end
You can occasionally "switch off" exchange security in Settings - maybe in your "off-peak" times. Don't have the phone to hand, but in Settings - Security - Device administrators, delete exchange and then set your swipe security. Exchange will then stop working and will nag you with security messages when you try to access it. When you want it back, just click on the notification and rekey your PIN - exchange will "own" your phone again.
Seriously, whoever thought this was a sensible implementation of security must be an Android-hater.

For the second option, phone will take time to decrypt and encrypt which is even more annoying if the storage is almost full. I don't know whether its the encryption/decryption or something else that spoilt my Micro SD card but strangely it got corrupted after a bit of tinkering like this and firmware change.
See if Moxier mail app (trial version) as it encrypts within the app than at a device level. If it works, worth spending money later if it works. Touchdown or other mail apps haven't worked for me so can't really comment about them. I guess they also have encryption at an app level that will address exchange server security policies. Give it a try. See what happens!
not sure if this is what yer looking for but "juice defender" has an option to set different time out lengths for screen off and screen lock, it also an extra option to set the lock to never come on when in range of home wifi etc.
i use juice defender ultimate not sure if the "lesser" versions have this feature.
@hari: I read somewhere that Touchdown does a similar thing, enforcing things on a application level. Actually, I think it was on the touchdown website (which seemed a little odd that they'd avertise it)..
How does Moxier Mail go with integration? I.e. is the sync'd schedule available to other applications?
Thanks for the tips guys.
I do not really like the idea of completely disabling my work Exchange sync, I am dependent on it.
Furthermore, I don't think Moxier will do it for me as I need fully integrated calendar sync as well.
Juice Defender might do it for me actually if it lets me delay the lock engagement. I'll try it out and post back.
Doesn't look like JuiceDefender is able to override the PIN lock timeout enforced by Exchange security, unfortunately.
Aaahh, I'd kill to have that lock time out/wifi dependent lock functionality JD offers!
Stupid Exchange security..

Not exactly sure what you mean by "sync'd schedule available to other applications?". If I understood correctly, Moxier has calendar, contacts and tasks sync. And it appears in "Accounts and Sync" option like other synced accounts like Gmail etc. with a flexibility to chose push/pull as per time of the day.
Only downside with all these apps is (one can live with this limitation though!), they have their own inbox, calendar within the app (instead of unified inbox, calendar etc..). Anyway, as such we're used to Gmail within its own app.

Did you talk to your exchange admins? This might be the easiest option.
On the subject of my 2nd suggestion: Yes, it's a kludge but it really doesn't take much to switch it on/off. I didn't have any problems as discussed above with encryption/decryption and/or filling storage; it just worked. And switching it off and on in the manner I described doesn't cause a delay.
But the best option is to talk to your admins. Show them this Dilbert if they offer resistance:

Hahaha, fantastic.
Unfortunately, talking to mu Exchange admin isn't really an option. I work for a very large consulting firm.

Same here..
Somewhere I also read, you can patch up your email application on the phone to disable the security..
For me thats not an viable option. I have to use Lotus Connect, which install its own version of mail application.
My Desire HD had an option of delaying the password lock based on the inactivity.
So I guess its somewhere there..

Why don't we ever hear of such usability issues in the many glowing reviews that are out there? I'm not winging, but its such a PITA to have to constantly reenter a 4-digit PIN that is directly impacts on your ability to use the phone. What about driving for example? You can't get past this screen to make a call, even with a bluetooth handsfree kit.
Not clever Android. What we need (in the absence of admins who are not BOFH) is exactly what is suggested in the thread title. BTW, When I mentioned above that IOS doesn't have the problem I think that's not quite true - the difference is that it splits the 2 functions: Screen Off & "logged out". I understand you can configure the 2 values seperately.
Now if my phone had that and would stop rebooting when it felt like it, it would be perfect!

I don't want to start an <ANYTHING> Vs Android argument but my 4 year old HC TYTN II did the "boring"* stuff better than my SGGS2:
Office document editing - has anybody looked at Excel in Polaris? A fag-box and a blunt pencil could offer a stiff challenge.
Access to exchange data (as above)
Handsfree support for making phone calls. I'm talking voice recognition, phone security and bluetooth here.
I'm not ranting - I knew what I was doing when I bought the phone and, yes, I much prefer it to my prehistoric WM device. Having said that, I'd just wish it was a little better at some of the boring stuff above. Yes, 1080p video recording, Dual-core HD games, etc, etc are wonderfull, but probably wasted on me!
* As in business activities.
Bumping for support - have tried numerous ROMs with no luck (Lighting, Cognition, Darky 2.0 and Oxygen), I to am forced by my company to have a 6 Digit Pin Code and gets quite frustrating.

On the market page it says "DOES NOT WORK IF EXCHANGE REQUIRES A PIN!".
The Exchange-enforced security is exactly what I wanted to circumvent in the first place.
@elite_gamer04
I use the hack from this thread on my SGS2 with Litening ROM 6.1, and it works perfectly, I've used it for months.

Hi.
Shake2Send is an application I made that allows two devices to pair and send contacts over the air.
To pair, the two devices shake at the same time (Similar to Bump for the iPhone). No bluetooth needed!
You can send contacts, as well as files.
Pictures will be displayed automatically, and CABs will auto install.
Version 1.0.1 released!
Instructions
Download the CAB.
Install.
Enter a name (Be unique for each device!)
Press Connect, and then shake both devices at the same time (Or within ~1 second).
When paired, Press Send and select a contact or file.
Known Issues
1. File sending is slow, try not to send big files (yet.)
2. Possible connection problem... still not sure on the details.
...More when I get more feedback
Changes
Latest version: 1.0.1
Better Auto connection
Bug fixes.
Better error messages
Some new artwork (not that different...)
Some internal code changes (Dynamic DNS, etc)
Better CAB File.
--0.61 Bug fix. Not an actual release.
0.6 Changes:
-Bug fixes, including the sending error.
-Some UI fixes and improvements
-Instructions picture
-File sending!
-Support for displaying pictures, and for auto-installing CABs.
Upcoming Features
1. Advanced options
2. Better looking UI
3. Auto-connect

Notes
1. You CAN use this app on non-gsensor devices. You will need to press Pair instead, and uncheck Use G-Sensor on the connect screen.
2. You will need .NET Compact Framework 3.5 in order to use this app.
3. If you want to host a private server for yourself (or prehaps a group of people), you still can download the server here:
http://windowsphonehacker.jaxbot.com/files/shake2send_server.php
But you will not receive automatic updates.

I am guessing both the device has to be on the same WiFi .. is that true ?
UPDATE : Guess not, if using the public server
Another Question : How will the app handle if there are 2 different people with the same name using the public server @ the same time ?
Great stuff none the less have given it some press on 1800PocketPC

If you WANT (paranoid I suppose), you can connect to a private server, but otherwise, the public server runs fine.
If there are two people with the same name on the public server at the same time... Hm, I actually think this might cause an issue, because the names are important in identifying devices. I'll have the server make sure no one chooses a taken name and patch it on my end
Thanks for the listing!
Duplicate names should be fixed now!
The server simply changes the internal name of a conflicting client and adds a _1 to it.
The "Me" label will display the same name (until next build), but when pairing it will include the _1.
All the technical stuff aside, the problem is fixed serverside.
New Version Soon!
Almost done with Photo/file sending, but before I release the new version, I need some more feedback.
You can probably expect it sometime next week
does everyone find this cool app to work easily or are you guys having some issues?? so after installing this on 2 phones and testing, here is what I have encountered.
- the application does not save the username/devicename that you give within the application when signing into the server. Would be awesome to have it auto-connect to your server and save the username/device name
- on first try, works exactly as expected
- on second try, when sending a contact from phone 1 to phone 2, if phone 2 IGNORES the contact, and subsequent contact sent from phone 1 to phone 2 comes across as that initial contact that was ignored. (basically, if you send the wrong contact, and phone 2 ignores it, you cannot send any other contacts to that phone, otherwise it comes across as that initial ignored contact
Best of luck, hope this all helps!!

About the device names, I'm thinking about something along that line, as well as allowing users to manually pair with another user, by entering their name (For long distance transfer).
About that contact thing, strange. I'll look into it and hopefully put it in the next release (which will be soon )
Edit: found the problem. What's really happening is, after you send a contact, the dialog is still returning the same contact (Instead of the selected one). So this bug should happen even if you accept the contact, right?

Glad to hear that you released a new version, I've already installed it lol and also that it's got improvements but when you said to be careful about what size cabs to send to each other or it'll crash what size is allowed and in the future will there be a no size limit b/c that would be the right approach KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND TY FOR THIS APP!! Question though, so now w/this latest version we can send stuff to other people that are at far distances and it'll work just fine?? And if so do we have to use it with the server on our PC'S to do so or is it easier to do then that if say were not at our houses???

About the file size: The current limit is 10mb. I probably won't set it any higher, because when the file limit is 10mb, the application is literally taking up 10mb of RAM, which is a lot for a handheld device.
You will not need the private server, unless you do not want a third party server handling connections (The server does not store anything, not even connection logs), but some people are paranoid, which is fine.
To send far distances, just click Pair->Manual Pair, and enter your friends username. Then have you friend do the same, but for you username. The two devices will pair OTA and allow file/contact sending.

If people have suggestions, I'll look into adding them, but for now, bug fixes and improvements are the main concern.
The user name you choose is not permenent, which is why it is random each time. It's just a useful identifier, that at one point will probably be 100% automatic and simply tell the user his/her ID.

I'm not sure what you mean by sending notes through bluetooth. Would you elaborate?
Adding more colour schemes is unlikely. The app currently includes two versions of the interface, one for high-resolution displays and one for the low. With more variants of each, it could quickly become unmaintainable. I can't change the background colour programmatically either, because it is baked into the graphics. They are all dithered for 16-bit colour, and dithering is incompatible with transparency.

It's simply you can send the notes you have to another device, say to another phone or pc, using bluetooth.

The thing I wonder about is what to do with the note on the receiving end. Official Evernote clients cannot properly transfer notes outside of synchronization. Exporting to HTML is possible, but would raise the question of what to do with file attachments.
Of course, if you can connect to internet through Bluetooth, then you can simply sync.

Perfect timing: I just started trying out Evernote this week and wasn't really keen on Evernote's own application because it's useless offline. And here comes your app and looks great.
I got one problem, though: It refuses to connect via wifi. No problem at all via 3G, but on WiFi it steadily shows "connecting".
Oh, and being able to create new tags would be a good addition.

Thanks for complimenting the app. I have not used WiFi in a while, but will try to reproduce your problem.
Started a new work item for tag creation: http://peoplesnote.codeplex.com/workitem/1005.
Voting on feature requests gets them implemented sooner.
Since restarting my phone a few times, the app doesn't hang up while trying to connect via WiFi anymore - it just takes way longer than via 3G for some reason, but it's usable.
Edit: Forget about the described problem. I'm sure it was a generally lagging WiFi connectivity that day. It works like a charm in other WiFi networks and now at the same one, too.
I apologize for taking so long to release a new version — just did not have much time to spare. Version 0.38 implements one of the most-requested features, letting you choose "All Notebooks" to browse, search, and sync all your notebooks together.

Great App! Working on my old Axim X51V!
I see on your website that you have Notes popping up with a timed alarm reminder as low priority. Let me put in a vote for higher priority.
I would use it as a timed "sticky note" to myself to do something.
Keep up the good work!
Just released version 0.39, making it possible to delete notes from the main note list screen via a tap-and-hold menu.

Version 0.40 adds an option to compact the database from the profile screen. Compacting a database can make it smaller and faster by removing empty spaces left over by editing, moving, and deleting notes.

It must be just me; since nobody else has mentionned it; but I cannot log in to evernote at all on my HD2. It sounds like the WiFi connection is slow and times out. With 3G, try to establish a data connection first, such as by opening a web browser. I just created a work item for this: workitem:1055.
0.41 release
After a temporary break, development continues. Version 0.41 adds some more polish to the user interface, as well as a new in-app player for WAV file attachments.

This program is making all the right steps in all the right directions, it has great prospects.
There are some features that Evernote has that I hope would arrive in this software in the not-too-distant future. I make more handwritten notes that any other form of note taking, and what I find with 'PeoplesNote' is that the 'Ink Note' feature is just a one page scribble pad without any option to scroll or add a page. It would be fantastic if the Ink Note feature of PeoplesNote could automatically scroll as the old Windows Note does as you approach the bottom of the page. Evernote's Ink Note recognises that you are reaching the bottom of the page and facilitates extra space to scroll into. Additionally, it would be very helpful to have an erase feature with Ink Note.
Please don't take this as criticism, I can see this app being extremely useful for as long as Evernote allow you to develop it.
I know alot of people try to protect their devices with lock keys/patterns, while this may keep people from getting ahold of your personal files, what it does not do is provide a means of recovering a stolen unit, actually quite the opposite.
Coming over from a TF101, a lock screen does not protect you as much as you'd think. The first thing a theif will do in the event of a lockscreen is google a way around it. On the transformer this was simple - boot into recovery and factory reset through cwm. After that you're kind of screwed. Since we don't have CWM yet it works in our favor, but you don't want them to have to resort to that to use the device.
What you want to do is let your theif get into your device so you can track them.
Now I know you're thinking, "can't they just factory reset through settings?".
Nope. Install UAG Tab, this isn't a free app ($1.99), but it will protect apps from being opened with a password (pin, pattern, etc). So what you want to do is lock settings, titanium backup, root browsers, superuser, my apps, market, and download managers. I lock anything with root access that can delete things. The reason I recommend this over privacy gaurd and other free apps of this nature is because UAG has more settings, more lock methods, UAG helper (prevents it from being removed by anyone besides you), can remove its self from the app drawer, and has a nicer UI.

Acessing one of those apps results in...
Once you have settings locked down, and any way an attacker can remove UAG. You'll want to download Cerberus.
Cerberus is the master race of stolen device apps. It allows you to do the following.
-Wipe data
-Track gps
-Capture webcam shots
-Sound alarms
-Record audio
-Get network information about the network the device is connected to.
-Last calls sent and received
-Hide from app drawer
-Record video (v2.0)
-others
Cerberus is free to download, but you only get a week of service for free, then you need to buy a key for service (around 4 or 5 dollars, cheap considering all it does). Cerberus requires device administrator privileges, which is why it's essential you lock settings with UAG.
I have cerberus synced with my 2nd gmail account that is on my tablet, so if you do this you'll need to change your email password before you try to recover your tablet in the event of it being stolen so you don't notify your attacker (I also lock gmail with UAG for billing purposes).
Since the transformer prime doesn't have phone service, you can't send commands to cerberus through sms (edit: apparently google talk lets you send sms, but seeing as it needs a wifi signal to receive this it's not particularly useful at this time). This means you need to have alot of wifi connections setup prior to it being stolen because you'll want your theif to access the internet. Here are some examples.
-attwifi (starbucks uses this)
-mcdonalds wifi
-panera bread wifi
-chickfila wifi
-linksys (most of these work on different linksys routers)
-your college campus network
-any other location you visit often, because you're more likely to be in that area to be robbed, and the theif may visit there again.
Keep in mind they won't be able to connect to more networks with settings locked, so this is important. If anyone knows of a way to connect to networks outside outside of settings, tell me and I will add this- because they NEED to be using your device to check their facebooks, while unknowingly broadcasting their location.
I hope this helps.

very nice. there is another on the market for free called Avast!. it will write itself to the /system partition so that a factory reset cant get rid of the app and it hides itself from the app drawers and list after setup. requires root though
I was thinking about that earlier, writing apps to /system/ could protect them even from cwm - but wouldn't the app data be lost in a reset? Similar to how gmail is in /system/app/ but a reset still loses your data.

ya, that does make sense. im not a developer, so im not 100% sure how it works, but Avast! says that it protects the app no matter what. whether you use CWM, a dialer code (in phones), or the in OS method. resetting it saves it. lol NO idea how...

I don't develop much but I'm in college to get into information systems security.
I used the trendmicro mobile security app when I first started using android, which has similar features to both avast and Cerberus, but costs substantially more at 29.99 a year. I still wish trendmicro would do a port of rootkit blaster or rubotted like they have for windows.
Would be nice if there were a method to receive sms on the transformer prime.

you might as well be talking to me in chinese, dood. i use windows defender (i know, be gentle), i do not know much about computers. and im only slightly better with android lol
but good luck with school man, there should ALWAYS be a HIGH demand for information systems security!
I wrote some scripts in Tasker that do the majority of what Cerberus does, and then some, including the remote camera uploads and some fun things like forcing a phone to call me with speakerphone on, wherever it is. The problem with a WiFi tablet is that you can't track it when it's not connected to WiFi.
Frankly, I think AndroidLost is a better simple solution that's free. And Avast Mobile also has anti-theft options with root support that will allow it to survive a factory reset.
Both of the apps you propose cost money, which is really unnecessary when there are solutions that work just as well for no cost.
Well, it's a combined total of about 7 dollars. I paid around 690 for the tablet with dock, so 1% of that to recover it was an easy bargain.
You can do most of these things in ssh with a remote access client installed on the tablet if you're strapped for cash, it's just more convenient to install an app to do it.
Also I did mention privacy guard which is free, and there are a few free alternatives to Cerberus, I just don't think they're as featured.

rubotted is a botnet detection app and rootkit blaster is a rootkit remover. Generally speaking, botnets and rootkits are things you don't want on your system.

Once again, AndroidLost is as good Cerberus appears to be according to the feature list; thus I'm hardly leaving a car unlocked.
As I've mentioned previously, I secure my phone using a pretty involved Tasker script, backed by Avast with it's root support allowing it to survive a factory reset.
As I've not yet rooted my Prime and my Tasker scripts are highly dependent upon cellular signal, when I got my Prime I fired up AppAware and scrolled through the highest-rated apps until I found the security app that is rated the highest of all that are free, AndroidLost. After installing it and finding that it really is quite excellent, I've stuck with it.
Just because an app is free does not mean it has to be any less effective than one that is not. In fact, I find many free apps seem to be written by people more concerned with making and supporting a quality application than making money.

AndroidLost is fine, but like I said before it's just not as featured. Cerberus allows you to send commands forcing the device to automatically connect to networks in range and also record video, which are just 2 of the features androidlost lacks. You can flash cerberus with rom manager so if your device is reset it's not deleted. LSDroid has developers that are making sure cerberus is optimized for ice cream sandwich, in addition to having tablet support. There's nothing wrong with capitalism and developers getting paid for their work.
Plus you can rick roll thieves.
Without an app like UAG there's nothing stopping someone from flashing a new rom anyway.

The problem remains that you need a wifi connection to receive it :\
So Maybe I don't get the complete picture. But if I were a thief, and I would notice that all the main apps were locked. I would still do a cwm recovery wipe and then there's still no way to trace your stolen prime.... Well offcourse when it's availible. So this is more a kind of temporarily security... Or am I missing something here?
the main app for most people is the browser imo. Even then cerberus and UAG can be flashed with rom manager. The most dangerous move is to give them no other choice but to have to google how to hard reset, rather than to have all your settings secure the way they are on your current rom. As long as they can still play games and get on the browser they should be content thieves long enough for you to file police reports and track them down.
Let's not forget a majority of people who would rob you are like marvin guzman.
It appears that UAG Tab is no longer available on Google Play. Is there anything similar that is as nice or featureful?
Ah, never mind. I found it by looking for the creator's site as listed in their app's package name in the URL link.
being as this was almost 3-4 months ago is there any updated way of achieving this level or greater level of security our is it still all the same procedure and setup?

Lockscreen/Keyguard Disabler
What is lockscreen disabler and what do I need it for?
Sometimes you may face the problem that you are forced to setup a device pin or password everytime you want to unlock your phone.
There may be different reasons: some companies require such protections when you want to receive emails onto your mobile device.
Another public reason is: you want to use VPN on your Android smartphone. To setup a VPN you are forced by the system to setup some kind of security.
This module is for all the users who don't want to be forced to use a protection, although using the services descriped above.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damages to you or your device, nor for any consequences that result from using this mod.
This mod is intended for testing purposes and not for bypassing security policies or guidelines in your everyday (work-)life.
Long story short: here it is now: A module that simply hooks into the lockscreen's callback, wether there is a password required and mocks, that there is no password needed for unlocking the device. As the password is still active in the background, other apps (especially the apps that enforce such password policies) will never notice this little hack.
There are no app-permissions required.
Installation
Install the Xposed Framework, install the APK and enable "Keyguard Disabler" from the module overview in the Xposed App. After a restart you can start using the standard Android "Slide-to-Unlock" again.

Nice, worked on my Nexus 5 with stock 4.4.2. Do you think it would be possible to enable/disable lockscreen keyguard without the need of a reboot? That combined with Tasker integration would be awesome (no idea if that is even possible), as the option with Secure Settings isn't always working..
But as the module is now it worked perfect for its purpose.
I think we are working for the same company . Anyway, did not yet install you. But any idea what to install on top of this to have some sort of security? Like a second pattern unlock. Had it like that on iPhone.
Exchange password hacked and installed android pattern.

I'm glad it is working for you. The next update will have the possibility to quickly enable/disable the "hack" without the need for a reboot.
A little 1x1 widget would be nice, too, just like a quick toggle on the homescreen, time based automatic enabling/disabling,.... there are a lot of thing that could be implemented

Maybe you can use some 3rd party apps like LockIt to add some security to your company's email account? I don't know how secure it is. Adding a second lock might be possible, but it would also be 3rd party, as the native lockscreen is still running with you password protection.
If you have any other ideas to make it useable for you, just leave me a message here

Thanks for your log - it seems to be 4.3+ exclusive at the moment, as in earlier versions of Android the keyguard worked different. I need to read through the sources of Gingerbread and ICS to find points to place a hook for the older Android versions.

That's interesting, because this mod doesn't even touch your email app, passwords, certificates or anything else.
I will try again after clean ROM installation.
After clean install I have the same problem, can't login in email app if this mod is active. Disable the mood and the email work again.
I am totally a fan of your efforts- I too am in this boat and it annoys the crap out of me.
We use IBM Lotus Notes (unfortunately) cuz our upper-mgt is stuck in the 1980's when it comes to tech-mentality.
The IBM Lotus Traveler app had device admin control to enforce a lock screen password.
I have researched and tried so many patches, fixes, work-arounds, etc., and NOTHING has worked thus far.
I think I can create something in Tasker to accomplish what I want, but I'm new to Tasker and don't quite know how to build the right setup yet.
But I am fully motivated to ultimately find something that will work.
I was excited to see this Xposed Module. Unfortunately...it didn't work for me.
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I will keep an eye on this post for any updates/fixes.
Thanks again for the effort on this front.

Galaxy S3 stock 4.3 not working for me either. How do I get the log for you sir?
Could you include an option for disabling the lockscreen altogether? I want to use this in combination with NFCSecure, and it's better now without the password, but it's still not quite perfect.
Again, as is it's amazing.

I disabled all other modules, restarted my HTC one Sense edition running Maximus HD 21.0 (Android 4.3) and still I had to type my pin. I tried changing to password instead of pin, but no luck.
Here's the scarce log output. Obviously I'm using version 1.1 of your module.

I am on Stock MJ4 for the Sprint Note 3, which is 4.3
Like I mentioned in my original post, I think a Tasker setup in place might do the trick, I just don't know Tasker very well yet, in order to create what I want. I found posts describing how to disable screen lock, but they were all about how to create a setup to do it when on your home (or another secure) wifi access point. However, I think the task would be the same, just needing a different profile.
The task would be for screen lock which you would set to "off." For the profile, instead of creating something to look for and verify a secure wifi point, you would create a profile to simply be when the device is in an "on" status, which...as long as your phone is powered up, the Tasker setup would make sure you never went into lock and had to enter your pin. You can setup (at least on my phone) to have pin AND swipe at the same time, and it was the same on my E4GT. So then you would have some sort of cover to make sure you weren't pressing buttons in your pocket, but just have to swipe to open, instead of the additional security BS.
Your thoughts on this avenue?
Also, I'd be interested to know what you were making program-wise to fool or fake the system. Whatever it is, I'm guessing maybe that Lotus Traveler either doesn't recognize it or see it.
There is that one Xposed Module, "app control" I think, that lets you go down the entire list of an app's permissions and uncheck whichever ones you want. The next thing I was going to do was go through a process of elimination, and see A. which permissions I can uncheck where the app will still run. And B, out of these permissions I can disable without crashing the app, which of them very well may be linked to some sort of lock-screen status checker. If both you found the permission that controlled it, and could disable it without disabling the entire app, I think that would work.
Thoughts here as well?

Could this module disable VPN requirement for secure unlock pattern?
I just switched from a pixel 3 XL to the v60.
I didn't need a work profile on my pixel. All my Gmail and drive apps worked with it.
Now that I have the v60, it forces me to make a work profile when I add my work email to drive or Gmail.
It makes it so I must use a screen lock. I just want to hit the power button to unlock. It blocks those options. In order to have 1 Gmail, 1 drive app, and disable screen lock, I have to delete the work profile, thus losing access to my work stuff.
Is there a way to have it like it was on my pixel? Just one app, and not be blocked from disabling screen lock?
TIA
As somebody on the IT team, I would wipe and blacklist your phone if I find out you're trying circumvent our security measures, and you wouldn't be the first. (When you log in to the portal, it tells us every single device that are out of compliance, so it doesn't even take serious effort to find out.) Then we would report what you did and how we responded to our c level exec.
But hey, that's just me protecting my company from security risks like you. You do you

That's not how it works at all. IT admin has the ability to wipe the device if a separate work profile is not installed. A separate work profile prevents the user's personal data from being wiped.
OP- I'm the admin at my company, and I don't enforce a work profile for this reason, it's wonky and works like **** since inception. I came here hoping to see a workaround but it looks like that's a fail. This thing is getting traded as soon as T-Mobile gets a comparable replacement.

I was discussing this with someone on another forum the other day, and it sounds like this is tied to g-suite. I don't know all the ins and outs of it (I don't need a work profile for my job), but it sounds like companies can set up a bring your own device policy in g-suite for your company email address. When you log that email address on to your phone, Google detects it and forces you to set up the work profile. From my understanding, this is a Google issue/feature, not LG's doing. I wouldn't be surprised if you had the same problem on other phones when adding your corporate email address.

Actually I have work profiles set for opt-in only. When I had this happen yesterday, I checked the admin panel of our gsuite account.
Funny thing is, I returned my v60 and reactivated my wiped OP8, and it now requires a work profile too.
This leads me to believe it's not enforced by gsuite, but by android in some recent update. I didn't need a work profile on this same phone yesterday, but had the account logged in since I had the phone so it must have grandfathered it in somehow until I factory reset it.
Kind of sucks that I can't combine calendar widgets and whatnot but I guess I'll deal with it since I have no choice....as the admin even lmao.

I can understand the frustration, but this sort of functionality makes sense to me. Keeping the work profile sandboxed protects corporate info.

Again, that's not the case. Device Policy protects corporate info. That's enforced with or without the work profile. The work profile protects personal info from being erased in the case of separation from the company.
I am having this exact problem with my new LG Velvet... my pixel 2XL and pixel 3a had no problem. I am also the company owner/admin/janitor/sales assistant.... switching profiles to check my six email accounts is a giant pain. Sooooo Aside from the, not helpful, justification for this supposed new " feature" does anyone have any suggestions?
I have asked my company about this. They have not set anything like this up. So, it's not on their side. I have no info that private. So it's automatic. Something on LGs side. Maybe this thread will get some attention. Hoping for a fix.

I agree it's a Gsuite thing... I tried opt-in and then I completely disabled work profiles in my gsuite admin and waited the recommended 24 hours. I have also factory reset the phone AFTER said changes. I added my primary (personal) Gmail no issue but as soon as I added the gsuite one I'm back in the same "Google Play services requires account action" loop. when I click on that it wants to add a work profile.

I don't think it's g suite. Bc my pixel did not do this.
This work profiles thing is such a garbage solution to the problem. Google is shooting themselves in the Android foot by doing this. Seriously? BYOD means using multiple email apps and multiple calendar widgets and me buying an iPhone? Seems to be the simplest solution. Thanks.
any day google can increase the security more and more... i think even if you get it working this time, it might not last long. its a huge pain and now i just access work emails via mobile browsers and i believe Firefox beta can load office365 and gsuit apps or most of them.
