[Q] All about Factory Resets and Wipes - Optimus One, P500, V General

I have a few questions on this matter:
1. Is a Factory Reset via Settings the same as doing a Wipe Data/Cache in Recovery?
2. Will a Factory Reset via Settings keep ROM Manager in my system?
3. What actions necessitate a full data wipe as opposed to just a Dalvik cache wipe? ROMs? Kernels? Random stuff that just needs to be flashed?
Thanks!

this is something that could help LINK so read it.
2. are you reffering to clockworkmode recovery?

Many thanks for that link... Earlier today I installed ROM Manager and the CWM custom recovery and I was looking for a complete guide for all the options.

Few questions

Hi, I'm new here and recently got hold of the Samsung Galaxy Ace and was thinking about installing this custom ROM (RazrUIV3) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478807
I have tried to understand the stickied thread at the top in regards to using ODIN to do so but I really have no idea what the thread means. I have however found a helpful youtube video to help me, but I would like to verify whether is it ok to do so:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlgZK7VsecA&feature=player_embedded
I see he followed most of the instructions on the page but only wiped the data and factory reset, what is this davlik cache? Thanks for taking time to read my question and apologies if my English is poor.

Sorry I couldn't watch the video because my bandwidth is very limited. I suggest you look at GadgetCheck's videos on flashing the SGAce. No offence to the aforementioned video uploader, though, I just think that GadgetCheck is really reliable and clear on his steps.

The Dalvik Cache is... to simplify just a special type of cache used by most .apk files.
Thanks for the help. I will have a look at Gadgets video. Is the ODIN method in the stickied thread the only way to install a rom? Or can it just be down via CWM?

Both are corrects, but with differences:
ODIN it's for flashing stock roms, and CMW it's for installing custom roms, over the already installed stock so, basically, you've to follow this steps:
1.- Flash any stock rom you want with odin and wipe (cache and partition)
2.- Copy in to your sdcard the CWM and the custom rom (from massive storage mode).*
3.- Run in recovery mode and install the new cwm. Reboot.*
4.- Run in recovery mode (again) and install your custom rom.
5.- Wipe (cache and partition) and reboot.
Now you're running your new custom rom.
* Thats only if the custom rom you want to install need it
I hope helped you
for razrui u need cwm 4 not 5

There is only instructions for v13.1. I read and followed them and managed to install it. But there isn't any for v19! I'm not sure if it has to be done from CWM or from odin. Any help?

The instructions will remain the same..if the file you have downloaded is in .zip format then it has to be flashed in CWM..
Omegas instructions if you do not understand do not flash stay on stock .
Installation:Install CWM Recovery with Odin - Get CWM Recovery here
Boot to CWM Recovery using volume up, power button and home key
Backup your device and make sure to keep a copy of the backup to your pc!
Wipe data / factory reset (Not needed if you already have Omega)
Install Omega
(Wipe cache will be done automatically during installation so you can skip this step
Wipe dalvik cache will be done automatically during installation so you can skip this step)

[Q] NOOB flashing question

I'm currently running CM10.1 nightlies, I quite fancy trying out a stock based ROM, can I just flash as usual using a ROM manager from the phone being turned on or will i need to flash back to stock first?

the best stock based rom i have come across is this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998701&highlight=phenom
You don't need to flash a stock rom with Odin and your PC, just use CWM. Just follow the instructions on the page, i've pasted them below for your convenience.
***COMING FROM A DIFFERENT ROM A FULL WIPE IS RECOMMENDED***
***FULL WIPE***
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP
Wipe data/factory reset in recovery
Wipe Cache & Davilk Cache
Flash Rom in CWM
Reboot
[EDIT] "can I just flash as usual using a ROM manager from the phone being turned on" - yes.

You have to do a megawipe if coming back from 4.2 roms, as these roms change the folder structure of internal storage. Dont forget to backup everything in your internal storage or you will lose them.
Many others have faced problems later by not doing a megawipe.
lefttobleed - pardon my ignorance, can this be done within the ROM manager or is it worth going into recovery to do this? I don't have my phone for a couple of days so I can't currently check settings.
Thanks

you have to go into recovery and flash the megawipe aroma file. sorry i dont remember the link for the file. Search for it.
Please note that i am not familiar with rom manager so i dont know whether this can be done with rom manager. I always flash through recovery.
Edit: Please dont try this through rom manager... i feel something might go really wrong.

Did you do a proper wipe of phone before flashing? ..i.e Wipe data/factory reset via recovery or better use a rom/kernel wipe script?
Have you read the instructions for the rom?
Have you searched the roms thread?

Phone bootloops please help!!!!!!!

Hi People,
I recently rooted my phone and things were good for 3 days until I screwed up, I installed "Disable service" app and I froze a service called "SIM Toolkit -stkapservice" and after restarting the phone is not bootling up, the boot logo appears again and again..
I'm not sure if disabling that service cause that, I have been disabling some others as well like qcconnectivity service, wiper app, smartcard service, picoservice, geocode service
Could someone please help me what to do ASAP? Should i flash it again? is so all my user data will be deleted again right?
Is there any way without deleting user data and settings? I've been hearing words like CWM, wipe dalvik cache etc but im not an experienced user, I just rooted and messed up my phone..
Could someone please advise me how to fix it?
what do you mean user data? pictures?
or saved logins & settings?
if you do wipe to cache it will remove your settings, not your personal files.

Well, only if you had clockworkmod recovery, but if you don't have a custom recovery installed then no. A custom recovery would allow you to backup the full data partition, but OEM (stock) recovery doesn't.
Your only option is to do a full factory data reset I'm afraid. Also wipe the cache.

To make a full backup is easy once you have cwm. Also, make sure you flash the cwm image made for YOUR device! Other images for different phones aren't going to work on yours! It will hard brick your device!
To make a android backup (nandroid backup), just follow this step-by-step tutorial:
