Hi guys
I'm a noob when it comes to android and rooting. I wanted to know if I root my x10i can I go back to standard firmware if needed? And can I keep timescape?
I'm from South Africa and we have not received any firmware updates. I tried debranding and didn't like all the extra stuff I got in the install so I went back to my old firmware. If I root what happens to firmware updates? I understand the benefits but as I said I'm new so I don't really know what to do with a rooted phone.
Thanks any feed back will be appreciated

you can keep what you what and restore to unroot state .... but if you are new to android or linux DONT root you can bring the os to an unbootable state....
Is there no way back if I brick it?
How can I get enough info to know what to do. I'v neva used linex.b4

After rooting, you can go back to standard firmware the same way you did it after debranding.
From my understanding, if you update firmware normally you'll lose root. Otherwise, you'd have to update to the newest 'rooted' firmware as posted on XDA if you want to update.
Thanks man that really clarified alot. Do u think its worth it if I go for a root for the time being since there's no updates in my country
Thanks guys

If your firmware is really old (click left button>settings>About phone and read the build number at the very bottom, if it ends in 14 or 16 it is the older firmware) It seems worth it to update. Though apparently, the newest root method version (gives you firmware ending in 023) doesn't seem to be the best in battery life. You may want to stick with the link for 'OLD VERSION 1' in the guide (the link's crossed out, but you can still click it to download the files) that will give you firmware ending in 020 which I think gives better battery life.
Only prob is, flashing causes all your settings and apps to go away. So backup your messages and contacts and things. Your SD card doesn't get wiped, but the phone does.
I do have r14, that's y I wanted the update cz I know that 23 is out in other countries. I'll try the root and save my old files so that I can revert if I have a problem later on.
And in case off bricking is there a way to undo it?
Thanks
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Real 'bricking' means the device is DEAD.
I had a problem where my phone gave an exclamation mark logo when booting, and thats all it did. I went through debranding (reflashing) again, and it worked after. So I guess if you get stuck, just reflash.
Ok great, as long as I can fix it if there's a problem I'll try it. Anyway thanks a lot. I really appreciate all the help and the quick replies. There's alot of stuff I still don't understand but I'll check the other posts if I don't get anything I'll put something up.
Thanks again

Hello, been having wars with my provider (signal) so now im back , there's a few questions i need answered.
1. my andriod is V2.1, Build :2.0.a.0.504, is this the best build for a generic x10i from SE?
2. Will this version support multi-touch, if it requires upgrading, will it remove my settings again?
3. Im looking at doing the beta Froyo upgrade, isnt it possible to run the SE "bloat" programs like Mediascape and timescape and creatouch on it?
4. Im trying to figure away to tunnle a connection so i dont need to use easyteether, i know Froyo has this ability with it, but how can i get 2.1 to get this? or do i still require an app on my driod to do that, as i find that the app bottlenecks it from time to time. (done tests where my Internet on pc slow, but the phone quicker)
5. i ran a rooting program, where u switched off an on ur phone, and it installed a super user program, isnt there another way to just make it super user with out having to have the super user application which i could of gotten from andriod market?
Please assist
p.s aren't you guys already working on throwing out 2.3 for the x10 already? or was it just a rummor?

Short answer; no. Maybe creatouch, but not media/timescape

Froyo has the ability built in, but SE's kernel does not support native teethering. You're stuck with 3d party teethering apps.

Rooting the phone can be done without installing SU and installin SU does not root your phone. SU is a program that tells you what other programs ask for "admin" on your phone and lets you decide if they should hav it.

2.3 is being worked on, allthough the dev working on it just had a hardware failure on his HDD, so he has to start over.

hi guys
i bought an HTC Legend (used) perfectly working ,,,
Android version : 2.3.4 gingerbread ( cyanogenmod 7 )
acctualy i dont like this rom ,, and i want to bring back to stock version
i realy searched a lot on internet
what i did try :
i downloaded RUU_Legend_HTC_WWE_2.03.405.3_Radio_47.39.35.09_7.08.35.21_release_130330_signed , but id didnt work ,, after the 3rd step it shows no android atached to pc.
then i tried to copy this on my sd LEGEIMG_Legend_HTC_WWE_2.03.405.3_Radio_47.39.35.09_7.08.35.21_release_130330_signed , but still didnt work ,, when i enter the recovery ,it looks for the rom and says invalid ,,,
would appriciate for an help
hope to hear soon from u guys
Just download B.0.8 and flash via recovery? They have obviously rooted it if it has CM7.
turn the phone off and power on holding volume down,What does it say??
if you really want to go stock and lose root download HTC Sync then try the RUU
Or for a stock 2.2 rom rooted (but apart from root it is stock)
DOWNLOAD
Hi there, I'm really sorry if I'm bugging, I just want to make sure I'm going to do this right.
I'm currently running the latest stable version of CM 7 on my HTC Legend and want to revert to completely stock firmware (no root, no nothing) because I'm giving it away.
In order to revert to stock, I just:
- install HTC Sync (so the drivers are all there) and
- run the RUU I download and...that's it?
Thanks in advance for your answer.
P.S. Cyanogen Mod 7 is really fast on the Legend, great improvement, however battery life is pretty bad (less than 24 hours), the wifi (although a lot more sensitive) switches on and off and worst of all, the phone itself reboots randomly, even when I'm not using it, it's just in my pocket...Might just be my problem, still I need to revert to the original stock.
That's exactly what you do You may want to backup text messages and things if you are moving to another Android Phone (e.g. Titanium Backup and SMS Backup + Restore)
Go to Shipped ROM's to find the ROM you want to revert it to

Titanium Backup if you plan on rooting your next phone, keep that in mind. Wouldn't want backups you couldn't use now, would ya?
Have fun!
Thanks a lot guys!! This info is a lot of help! The process just seemed a lot easier and more straight forward than the modding itself.
I'm sorry to have to revert but it really came as a surprise that Cyanogen had so many issues on my Legend after hearing so many great things about it, but, as I said, it might just be my device...
Off-topic: My personal device is a Galaxy Ace with Android 2.3.4 leaked firmware and it runs great. I'd love a Cyanogen Mod on that as I'm sure it would work a lot better than on my Legend.
Just a quick q, Was it overclocked when you experience these reboots?
No, it wasn't overclocked. The phone ran stock firmware (no root) until 3 days ago when I decided to try out Cyanogen.

Hi
I had troubles using the RUU method to get stock back, so I used BlaYos rom. It works great to.
Hello
I just want to clearify. Ive used cyanogenmod 7.2, root of course and also simple2ext.
Will this method restore it to factory status? I'm giving it to a friend and I need it to be original.
Thanks
Hi,
First I'd like to says thanks to the people who have done a great job with the custom roms, I'm quite enjoying them over standard WP7.8.
I managed to flash the Qcomm bootloader, unlocked sim (haven't tried that yet) and am curently checking out Rataplan V5 (Rainbowmod and lite have also been on here). Got an activation code from Microsoft for live accoun so I could use the phone properly, but have just came across an issue I did not have earlier:
the phone will not stop restarting when plugged into USB. I wanted to sync my music from Zune to my phone. It worked fine when i used it last night to charge up, now it restarts from both wall usb and pc usb
Any suggestions on where to look for the problem?
Reflashed Rataplan ROM again, no issues this time around. Not sure where the problem came from, hasn't come back.
So again, big thanks to those who make these ROM's, made my phone so much better!

Had the same issue even when I upgraded to official 7.8 on my dload lumia 800. Reinstalled the firmware and everything started working properly too. So it seems that this is a solution.

I'm too, I mentioned that I was installing official firmware. It was from Navifirm, I installed it because there was no 7.8 on Zune. But I think there are plenty of custom roms on development thread. I have dload, that means I cannot flash my lumia now with these. Homebrew firmwares are usually fully unlocked, so if you want to install some tweaks that require access to registry go ahead. My friend said that custom firmwares lag more, he has unlocked lumia, though I haven't actually seen the phone.

It only lags if major modifications are applied such as theming, or any other core changes made, otherwise most WP custom roms (eg. Dynamics) only gives you full unlock + Nokia add-ons, which is like having a rooted HTC Android OS with Samsung apps.
Can't believe I forgot to mention its a lumia 710.
Anyways, the orientation lock is pretty much worth the custom rom all by itself.
Did like the clock tile in rainbowmod, but the colored tile app broke the Os when the color option was picked.
flash

I recently bought the HTC Amaze 4G International/Unbranded version. I'm new to Android ( was an ios user ). Since there is no official update for the unbranded HTC Amaze I read Aj's guide on how to get it on ICS. Well, I messed up during the S OFF and was unable to do it as I have a Windows PC and juopunut bear does not work for Windows.
By this time I had bootloader unlocked and my phone was rooted. I installed the stock GB ROM in Aj's guide ( T Mobile one ). Since S OFF is for getting ROMs by any carrier, how did I get the T-Mobile stock GB ROM ? If I was able to get a T Mobile GB Rom installed shouldn't I be able to get the T Mobile ICS ROM ?
I also have another question regarding CynagenMod. If I'm on a GB ROM which latest Cm ROM will I be able to install ? Will the latest CM ROM be better than the GB ROM?
Sorry for this long post but I just had a lot of questions stuck in my mind and don't want anything to go wrong.
Thanks

S-OFF means security off so when you try to flash a kernel you dont have to do it through adb or use smartflash, and bout can use any carrier thing it belongs to the CID part which you have the asian one HTC_044 or something like that, so you cant flash any ICS RUU's or Firmwares provided by t-mobile and etc...well you can use the tmobile gb rom cuz you have the GB firmware in your phone (came along with your asian GB rom pre flashed) to have a ICS or higher OS version you must upgrade your with ICS firmware and to do that you have to turn off security and change your CID so the bootloader will let the process run without terminating it, and bout the CM versions i think CM7 means GB so yea CM 7 ..if i'm wrong feel free to correct me
Thanks mate! That helped a lot.

Another question. I see that you cannot perform S OFF on a Windows PC because it is not supported :/
Does that mean I can't do S OFF as I have a Windows PC?
2nd question is I want to install apps which are ICS+ like BBM, since I can't S OFF is there anyway to get those apps while still on Gingerbread?

Yo, if you could, try to get some time on a computer that has Ubuntu installed.
If it's not available, just download a free copy from the site, burn it to a dvd and either do a live cd boot or install it side by side with your windows (like I did It isn't hard to uninstall)
Once you do that, you can run the juopunut's controlbear from terminal.
Just follow the instructions from unlimitedio and you should be fine.
Honestly, It's not that hard to do.
Now, there's an official bbm app on google playstore , you can try it..

If you read what he said properly, he asked IF he could get apps like BBM for gingerbread, since they're made for ICS and other newer roms (JB and KK)
But no. you can't get it on GB.
For S-OFF all you really need to do is burn Ubuntu to a DVD and run it, install it (you don't have to make a big partition.)
When you're done, just install the appropriate applications and voila, you're ready to run the controlbear.
