[Q] Tab disassembly - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know how to crack this puppy open? I assume that those are two screw hole plugs on either side of the 30 pin port but I can't think of a way to get them out without digging into the plastic with a pair of sharp tweezers. If anyone can give some advice on how to open it, I'll gladly do it and take photos of the breakdown

Nothing. You were very helpful. Thank goodness you are here.

Yes, sarcasm will get you everywhere. Congrats on achieving your ends of getting ignored.

I'd love to see this baby undressed! Please, make it so

I'd rather see it blend.

The screen is glued on... You have to use a heat gun or blow dryer to soften the glue and then *gently* pry. I own a mobile device/computer repair shop and most mobile devices now are glued together. Screws make them fat. If you need help let me know.

Thanks for the info! would the screen be the first angle of attack? And If I were to remove the screen in that manner, would I need to clean the glue and apply a new coat?

Also interested in how this would be done... not that I'd do it right now. I've had this thing for about 48 hours with very little use and I can see a spec of dust inside the screen surface. I wonder if warranty would cover that? I'm sure Best Buy would help me out here.

I plan on doing a tear down with step by step guide in the next week or two... Ill post it. You have to use a heat gun and suction cup... Its not as hard as you may think but IT IS DEFINITELY NOT FOR BEGGINERS THOUGH AND SHOULD ONLY BE DONE IF THE GLASS/LCD/DIGITIZER NEEDS REPLACED. You can always message me for help/advice... Its what i do everyday.

I'm sure it will be much appreciated when you do thanks alot. I love knowing how to get into my own hardware to do my own repairs

Im going to tear it apart today and make a step by step guide. Havnt got to it because of the holiday weekend... Ill post results. It may be a couple days (not sure what "security" features i may find) but ill keep you guys posted (and the hidden microsd thread too ;-) )!

Thousands of us cannot wait to see the results. Hope you have someone to take pictures of your hard work, step by step along the way.
Good luck - You are very brave!

Looking forward to seeing the inside of this thing. Good luck.

this impending tear down is going to answer a very..........bothersome question from another thread.........that i cannot wait for it to go away

Cool. It should be interesting to see how this is done.

I hope ifixit.com does a teardown. I don't see why they wouldn't. They do a lot of devices, and this is the reigning king of HC tablets.

Hi everyone! While waiting for a donor phone to be dropped in my lap at work today, i spent about 20 min taking my phone apart to see what was inside......So please enjoy, and I have some questions about the shielding over the radio components.....any ideas on taking it off? I know i should de solder them but without burning the board? whats the best approach Ive never soldered so please post a link or something. I really want to take a look under those shields. So without further ado taking your housing off!!!!!
Take out all the screws and stuff....helps if you have a fingernail or a pick for pulling it apart too!

I can tell you from experience that this is a well built phone. Pay close attention to secondary seals under the rear housing and usb/hdmi ports. I had a customer come in with one that had a coffee bath and still worked. The only parts that got wet was between the lcd and digitizer and between the lcd panel and reflector (the mopho was face down on a table when it happened). Except for the coffee staining the reflector panel in the LCD assembly it was good to go after desiccant/hotbox treatment.
U need a hotflow soldier to get those panels of...or bake it in a oven but u will ruin it
I deff don't recommend trying to take those off even if you have the right tools

So when you do get this opened up, keep in mind if there is a n lte chip, it will be a dual wi-max/lte chip, only one has been made between a chip company and motorola and motorola has only made one wi-max phone so ill place my bets the dual chip is in here, ill try to repost with a picture of what it should look like
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
No LTE Support for Photon
No need to find a sacrificial lamb for your curiosity, our phones wont support LTE at all. The Photon has the Wimax Chipset Version bece3502, the Dual mode LTE/WIMAX chipset is the bece5000.
So there you have it, Sucks but its better to know then to ruin a phone.
Ive heard and read its just running the Beceem 3502 drivers for now, ive also heard of sprint representatives saying an update will come for the photon to support lte when theyre network is expanded, what other reason would motorola hide the photons full hardware information until january, when sprint releases theyre "big secret" at ces which im guessing is LTE

Did you try immersing the entire phone in 99% isopropyl alcohol? That will displace any remaining moisture and is safe for electronic components
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
uhm not yet how do you do that? do i need to remove the battery also?
Could you please research how works you SIM-card lock ? I ask cause I had broke it in past (by using thicker SIM card) and want to repair it somehow.
Ya remove the battery and immerse just the phone, leave it under till all air bubbles stop floating then shift it around a bit to ensure all air is displaced and let it sit for about 30 seconds then pull it out and hang it at an angle to drain and dry for a while don't use a hair dryer only use like a fan or something. That should do the trick.

oh ok thanks, is that the reason why my for softkeys not working because they are still wet?.
Most likely

I don't think you even need to remove the battery, the reason rubbing alcohol is safe is because it doesn't conduct electricity, you could even boot the phone submerged, what you want to remove is any rubber or material that could get dry and crunchy. I've never been able to find 99% the highest I've found has been 97%, but it still works

oh ok... now all i need to do is to check which are the rubbers, the only one i know is the one on the battery

I know this post is old but anyone looking for 99% isopropyl alcohol it's used in the graphic arts (in some printing presses). You can get it cheap through a graphic arts supplier. Research the prices because some suppliers like U-Line overcharge for it. Also you may get stuck paying a Hazmat fee if it's shipped. Check your local listings for a graphic arts supplier or maybe a print shop that can sell it to you to avoid the Hazmat fee. NOTE: isopropyl alcohol may harden and or damage some rubber/plastic parts. Personally I would try replacing the part's from a donor phone first. I would only try isopropyl alcohol as a last resort.
My ole lady's menu key stopped working and I'm thinking its due to some drool n slobber from a baby... Getting a new screen assembly it out of the question... Could I remove the screen and give it a soak... Do you'll think that would resolve the issue... I've never heard of anything like this... Thank you kindly for your time...
I've heard that putting the phone in a bag of uncooked rice will work too, although I'm not sure it will work as well as the alcohol (although it may be easier). Here's some more info on ways to save a wet phone: http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/how-to/tips/4269047

I wonder where the ants are crawling in through? Around the screen somewhere? Through the USB port? Does someone fancy carrying out an experiment with their Nexus 10 and an ant lol.

I was thinking about this last night. I wonder if you were to craft some sort of funnel that you could put on the end of a shop vac or automotive car was vac (because they are so powerful) and then put the small end of the funnel on/over the usb ports - could that ant be sucked, maybe not all the way out but perhaps out of view?

It must have been packed in at the assembly plant. if there was a crack or sort of `tunnel` that an ant can crawl in the screen from outside, you will most probably already see plenty of dust under the screen.

I'd be afraid of causing damage to the tablet by using a vacuum that powerful.

Highly unlikely. I purchased it in November...and they (there were two) appeared at the end of March. There is no other dust under the screen. The little guy died and will not shake loose now. Over time perhaps it will decompose enough that I can shake him to an edge. I broke it down as far as I could...but digitizer and display are one unit...and wasn't going to try and pry it apart. My stones are a tad too small for that.

Stripped screw....help?

I stripped one of the screws that allows me to get to the internals of the phone. I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions about how to remove it. I saw someone talk about super glue and a tooth pick dropping the supper glue in there and letting it harden the trying to screw it out. But any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Is it totally stripped? Using a screwdriver that is not correct may partially strip it but using the correct screwdriver can still get it out.

yea its totally stripped which is why I was gonna try the glue method
Superglue won't do crap. Only option other than trying a different screwdriver is using a dremmel to remove the screws head.

Yes what he said! A dremel is the best way. There's this lil ball grinder tool that would grind the head of the stripped screw off. Click here for pic. You can buy just one at most hardware stores. Buy one a lil smaller then the screw head if you can. The turn on the dremel and grind the head of the screw off! Basically you put the lil ball head in the stripped portion and grind out the center. The outer portion will come loose. The base of the screw will remain. Ask some friends to see if they already have a dremel. They are quite handy if your crafty!
Wear a headlamp for good lighting and go slow.

Thanks or all the help so far I really appreciate it.
You can use a drill. Find a bit that's the same size as the head of the screw, brace the phone good (extra hands are helpful) and drill off the screw head.
Do you have a Harbor Freight nearby? Or check their website. They have a dremmel like device that has the bits on sale just about all the time.

LCD Screen and Frame

Thought I would post this as I just brought one..
My Screen died yet again. after only having it in for service about March. Mind you it was here in Asus China.. so...
Anyway, It was giving me the dreaded black screen no turn on type thing, Plus a few of the other characteristics that have been documented in the Katkiss thread of late- Corrupted partition.
After the last battle with it, I ended up with a full strip on the left hand side about 50mm that is unresponsive.. nothing that you can do on the touch side of things, but mouse still works. Anyway.. wasn't going to send it back. as its not worth the aggravation of dealing with the idiots at the Asus aftersales service. So went and brought the Nexus 10.. Loving it..
but for project decided to look for another LCD screen and came across this seller with the full frame for sale.. so its about $US65.. so its my weekend project.. as Dam.. with Katkiss JB4.3 around.. I just want to play with it on the TF101.. Just not ready to let this thing die as yet.
I will update the post once i get it up and running.

Anyway..
Not to be deterred.. I got out the trusted plastic tools and went about separation of the screen from the LCD panel...new one...as I already had got the old one off with no drama..and cleanly.
Note..make sure you know which you are separating..as I found out the hard way that I was actually separating the gorilla glass from the touch screen...were wondering why it was so dam hard...plus one hell of a mess..
Lucky the original was still in good order so I finally was able to separate the new LCD panel and clean it up..
I almost gave up..but pushed through..it wasn't going to beat me.. plenty of man handling going on..I put it all back together...yeha..
Mind you I wasn't thinking that it was going to crank up as I was man handling the LCD panel pretty heavily ...but up popped Tims little mascot and 4.2.2 fired right up...sign of relief..
So straight to 4.3 I have came and its powering along...too good to be true..
Thanks Tim...and others that have ported the 4.3..
Of course I have a few more creaks from around the edges And a little light bleed on the left hand side but as I was lucky that the double sided tap from the original glass was still sticky and usable..
Will let it settle in and put it thru its passes and see how it goes before I pull it apart and pop some silicon in there..

Will edit post later with the YouTube links used.
If you do it, the Russian video is the best to use to strip it down but there are a few little steps it miss's
