[Q] Few noob questions - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Is there any short cut buttons like while im browsing to refresh? or click enter (to send text entered in a box ie- chat room) or a way to navigate through a web page without having to use the touch screen.
And it there a way to send a text without clicking send on the screen? And can i use any physical buttons (On the keyboard) to navigate though the menus?
Also any tips for a new x10 mini pro owner and i cant send recieve mms error (message not downloaded)

in opera mini/mobile browser there are shortcuts for navigating through web pages, but idk about the menus.
why? what's wrong with your touchscreen?

Huh? I Don't really want to root (Deletes everything ??) and load a custom rom, i like it how it is with 2.1 (update 1)
I would just like to delete some of the useless trial games and applications that came preloaded, If i do decide to root it, Can i back up some applications first as there are a few usefull ones i regularly use.

I haven't been able to send a MMS yet on this phone, but i can access the internet fine.

When you root, it doesnt necessarily mean that you wipe all and replace with a custom rom. it just gives you the power to access the inner device(and i mean software) of your phone in which a default x10 cant.
Try superoneclick in rooting. then install titanium backup. there you can delete those apps like rollercoaster and gold rush. then if you want, you can unroot it. for your pleasure
if somehow i have helped you. dont forget to press "thanks"

wrong root just lets you get rid of stuff you dont want get your facts right

Ok, to translate this quick:
1. Without root, you can't delete those apps. You may also need root explorere after you root.
2. Root doesn't delete everything.
3. You can move apps to sd if you root (and i guess you want that )
4. Tips: Enjoy!

Yeah something like that, Root the phone so i have access to delete the pre-installed apps i dont want or need.
I seen a program called 'Uninstaller' I could use after i root the phone.
After ive used superoneclick can i delete the icon/app from my phone and remain with root access?

Can someone point me to some instructions on how to use Root Manager? Or, if it is even on my phone.
I'm a little new, but have reflashed my phone to the .435 ROM, rooted it and installed JIT. I'm just not sure where to go on the phone to add some of the new features I want like a camera app from another memeber and a battery in the status bar.
Thanks!
You mean root explorer?

Okay, thanks for the replies.
28spawn wrote in his camera app instructions:
Instructions (new steps 2)
Using Root Manager copy the SemcCameraApplication.apk to /system/app overwriting the original one.
Long press on the overwrited app and select Permissions, and make sure that these options are checked: the whole first column and the first from the second.
So, I need to get Root Manager. It is an app???
I'll do some searching for it.

Or maybe pay for that kind of app?
For Root Explorer the R/W button, Menu button, and long presses are your friend.
Menu button is on the bottom left side of your phone.

Download Super User and Titanium from the market. Try to freeze some of your bloatware. If it let's you, you are rooted.
when i open superuser should i expect to see apps in the app tab? superuser opens but i see no apps in the app tab.

You won't see any till they request permission.
Dead give away to if you're rooted is that when you flashed the second PG05IMG.zip the top of the screen would have said "s-off".
This will tell you if you have root or not:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&feature=search_result
Also, if you download apps like Titanium Backup, it requires root to function properly, so you'd know then too.
Some of the programs that you would want is kernel manager and clockwork manager. Read through dev. Forum and decide which kernel and rom u want to be running. If ur rooted why stay pn stock.

If you power on your phone while holding the volume down button, you will load into the bootloader. At the top it should say "MECHA XD ENG S-OFF" at the top. You are rooted.
As the others said, install ClockworkMod and TitaniumBackup.
TitaniumBackup will allow you to freeze (Or uninstall) bloatware that was put on your phone. I usually just freeze the apps because uninstalling can sometimes cause issues. Look at the app in titanium and tap on it, which will bring up a menu. Hit "Freeze" and it will stop the program, remove it from your app drawer and not load it in the future. TB also allows you to backup your apps (And sync them to your dropbox if you have one).
Clockwork mod is what you use to flash ROMs. ROMs are customized UI's for your phone that can add or take away a number of features. I personally use Das Bamf 1.6, which is amazing. A ROM that retains the "Sense" UI will still look a lot like the native HTC screen, keeping many of the features. A "Desensed" screen removes HTC's UI, causing it to be the more native Andoid phone OS (Think Nexus 1).
ROMs can also add features such as over/underclocking the processor, different animations (Startup, etc) and adding modes like "Hibernate."
To install a ROM, first backup your current ROM.
Open ClockworkMod>Scroll down and hit "Backup Current Rom">Enter backup name (Usually the date, but you can name it whatever)
It will ask you if its ok to restart into CWM recovery. Hit yes. The phone will restart and Clockwork will back up your settings. After that you can restart the phone and it will start up your phone like normal again.
Now that you have a back up (In case you hate the rom you install or something goes wrong) you can install a ROM! To do that we go back to ClockworkMod.
Hit the button labeled "Download ROM." This will bring up a number of ROMs that have been linked into CWM. For this example I will use das BAMF. Hit das BAMF and you will see many different versions. If you hit one of them, it will download the ROM and CWM will flash it. CWM will ask you if you want to clear all data. Adrynalyne says you do not need to, and I have not needed to, but if you have problems, reflash and wipe all data first with the options.
Kind of a quick an dirty. There are much better guides here on the forums for doing all of this. Search the forums. Read carefully.
thanks for the info. with your help i am indeed rooted.
a stickey regarding this would be helpful and appreciated. included would be whether or not a rooted thunderbolt could possibly be "bricked" with any verizon/htc updates. are there issues with manufacture updates of rooted phones?
Congrats on being rooted! I rooted my Thunderbolt within 2 hours of buying it! A little observation I have made is that my Thunderbolt loses 3G more often after updating the Radio. I have tried everything to remedy this situation, ie all different assortments and variations posted here on XDA.

I use root explorer to remove them. Just choose multi select from the menu, then check each one you want to remove and hit delete. Or you can choose move and put them in a folder on your SD card if you'd like.

Is there a thread with the apps that are safe to remove yet? I cant seem to find one.
Flash a rom that has the bloat already removed. I flashed OMJ Deodexed De-bloated Rom first thing after using revolutionary.
Root explorer has been great for me as well. Have to fork up a little dough but thats fine with me since i use it on all my devices. Just dont delete things that could be important. dont delete the stock messaging app or no incoming mms, if you delete sprint zone you cant call customer service with *2 etc....
Root Explorer works great but ES FIle Explorer will do the ame thing as long as it you give it root access. And it's free.

AWESOME! Really appreciate it.
The first night the phone was rooted, before any roms were released I used Root Uninstaller (from the market) to remove the bloat. Just make sure you use the uninstall option, NOT freeze!!!!
As far as a list, heres one of what dev - kushdeck removed from his rom...seems to pretty much cover all the bloat. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194672
Removed Bloat:
AdobeReader
Amazonmp3
Blockbuster
FusionStocks/Widget
Footprints/Widget
News/Widget
Magicsmoke Wallpapers
Sprint Radio
Nascar
PolarisOffice
Spiderman
Mobilewallet
SprintNavi
SprintTV
Sprintzone
Stocks
Obviously just don't delete things you want to keep/might use, if you do though, he has also uploaded a zip with the files that were removed.

I like TWRP the best. It takes some from Amon_RA. Very well put together.
Viperboy made a flashable Mod . You can select groups of bloadware (sprint, htc, misc) or you can remove each one individually. If you're not using ViperROM, at least check it out.

Now how about the rooting process. I don't want to add a custom rom at the moment, just root and remove stuff. Like do I REALLY have to temp root before I perm root? That seems kinda like a waste of time.
Also, If I'm not happy with the recovery I flash, can I flash a different one, or am I stuck with what I choose?

Well no you don't have to flash a custom rom to root. You can very much root the stock rom. And as far as root, well what did you want to know??? And as far as your recovery. If you flash one and want to change it yes its possible. As long as its done correctly you can change at will. Id recommend twrp 1.0.3 to start with. Its user friendly, custom colors to choose from and it has a great support thread.

[DELETED LG HOME APP ?] Recovery guide.

Hi,
Recently, I accidentally deleted my LG HOME app from my Optimus One (my phone was rooted). But since I was using GO Launcher Pro at the time, it didn't affect the phone functionality.
But then while playing with the phone I factory reset it, and whoosh ! I was left with no launcher screen at all (LG HOME being the default, which I deleted ). I was left with a blank screen, with just the notification bar.
HERE IS HOW I RECOVERED MY PHONE (and not the LG HOME app):
Step 1: Get a launcher app apk from somewhere and copy it to your SD card.
PS: Search on google 'go launcher ex apk' without the quotes. You can also search for ADW launcher or others (see android market).
Step 2: Turn your phone on.
Step 3: Get someone to call on your phone. Pick up the call.
Step 4: During the call tap the 'Add call button'. You will get the dialer pad, with contacts, call logs and favorites tabs as well.
Step 5: Go to contacts and click the menu hardkey to get the menu. Tap 'New Contact'.
Step 6: When you get the new contact form, tap the image with a '+' sign on it (It is used to add a contact image).
Step 7: Now you will get options as to where to get the file. Select OI File Manager.
Step 8: Navigate to the folder in which you copied the Launcher app (Go launcher, ADW Launcher or the like) and install it.
Voila ! You have a new launcher screen now.
PS : I was relieved when I finally got my launcher back. I was on the brink of flashing my phone to the stock KDW, which could've resulted in a bigger mess (Bricking etc.)
NOTE 1: If you factory reset your phone again, you will lose the launcher again, and will be back without a launcher screen. So make sure you don't do so lest you want to repeat Step 1 thru 8 again.
Word of advice: Make sure you have at least one launcher app installed on your phone (no matter which one, it should run).
USERS PLEASE UPDATE THE THREAD WITH OTHER ADVICES FOR THE PROBLEM.

Um, or use search button on phone and search for right app or what ever, search button on phone is pretty useful if you brick your rom. :]

Well,I have fastest method than this
Which I used when I do the same thing
Stock rom have default LG home which u deleted that,s why blackscreen comes
So
Just slide that notification bar and turn on internet and from PC go to market download launcher it will be directly download to your phone bcoz of on internet
And you got your launcher back

Yes you can extract the zip on sd card and you have to put the app in system/app and set the right permissions. You need root for this and a file manager that read internal storage like Es file explorer.

Ok so Here is a link to Cyanogen Mod 7 which is a custom rom for all New xperia's imo probably the best custom rom out there. This will require you to have an unlocked boot loader on your phone.
Your second option is to root your device and remove the systems apps you dont like with titanium backup available off the android market.

1. Just use flashtool to flash a stock firmware for your handset. FlashTool
2. As for multiboot im not sure sorry.
3. You can use titanium backup and try, although its not garunteed to work.
4. If you are planning to flash cm7 it will be pre-rooted after the flash. all you need is unlocked boot loader.
Just have in mind that if you unlock your bootlocker (wich is essential if you are planing to put CM) you gonna lose your warranty.
About task manager, you can use Advanced task killer, who is avaliable at android market for free. There u can manage what process you want to leave running and wich one you want to be killed.
With rooted phone you can uninstall some of the system programs, just like Facebook

So basically if i use this tool i want lose warranty as far as i dont touch bootlocker????
I downloaded some task managers of the market but when i kill apps they restart automaticaly.
One more question.
If i root it uninstall apps via titanium can i restore the apps by wipeing the phone???
THX
Yes, that is correct. You wont lose your warranty as long as you don't touch bootlocker. And with that tool I linked to you, you can easily root your phone and unroot it when ever you like (tested myself).
Some applications will always return back to process tree, simple as, thats how they work
For example, facebook is always in background to notify you about notifications and those things, even if you didn't set up an facebook account, he will always be in background.
That's stupid, I know, but that doesn't suck your battery or similar.
You can always restore all Google applications with ClockworkMod recovery.
Here's the link for CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345741
And here is the link for google applications:
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/
