I found that I am having a pretty slow internet surfing speed after flsah with Simple Streak ROM 1.2 By Spidla (Thank you, it's a great ROM!!).
Why I can't recieve 3G signal on T-Mobile ? I have 4G plan anyway. Edge really kills me as it only have a speed of 12 KB/s.
Could anyone help me out ? What ROM else could have 3G signal on T-Mobile? Let me know as well ~~~ Thank you guys
It's a Dell retail model (unlocked one, not Att, maybe), T-mbile assistant says that probably my device it's not the AWS model, which support UMTS900, UMTS1700, UMTS2100.
My service tag is G85Z1P1.
Your streak is likely the US model and not the AWS model.
That can only get 3g on At&t and not Tmo
I have figured out the problem. I checked that there are people selling AWS model at $750 on eBay, is there anywhere possible for me to get an AWS besides that one? Thank you
You will need to get a AWS streak, really doesnt matter how.
Might be cheaper and easier to try getting one from Cincanatti Bell and unlocking it. I'd assume theirs are new stock. But I cant help you with details since I havnt tried it myself.
If you buy off ebay you'll need to be the judge of price and condition and age of the streak.
Looks like they have the AWS model in stock. But it's hard to get one from Cincinnati as I live in Buffalo.
Maybe try to change the chips or the antenna. It's radiculous as Streak 7 can support 850/900/1700/1900 at the same time. why not our streak.

Because that's how they built it.
Have any body in the world tried Streak 7's Frameware.apk and service.odex on streak ? bricked or not ?
The AT&T Streaks and the ones purchased directly from Dell unlocked do not have the hardware for the T-Mobile bands. So no software will fix that.
What if I use the Antenna and capacitance that can support 900/1700/2100 frequency? ripe some from T-mobile made hardware and soldering them onto the Streak chip board ?
Or, If anyone lives in Cincinati could help me get one from Cincinati Bell.
You'd need to get one off an AWS streak to be sure it's compatable, then there's the issue of weither or not the mainboard will accept a diff radio.
I have tried hard to find someone in Cincinnati could help me out. And also it will be riscky to have a AWS model as ATT is processing buy off T mobile, if they successes, then T mobile 3G will dead and all 3G users will have to exchange their phones(probably only the one has contracts)
Do you know any other carrier in US use 850/1900 for 3G ?

I am not sure why you think that the T-Mobile bands would be dead. I think that in order to take advantage of existing infra-structure new phones after a merger would work on both bands and your existing phone would continue to work as it does now.
check out this link:http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2011/03/21/att-says-t-mobile-3g-phones-will-need-to-be-replaced/
AWS model will only work with T mobile 3G, sucks when traveling aboard.

Hi, Just purchased the hd2 T Mobile from USA. Which carriers can I use in Canada to activate this Phone? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
any of them(well, except any cdma only ones) but you will need an unlock code from online or from t mobile, and you won't get 3g
Thanks for the help samsamuel. I took it to one carrier and they told me it wouldn't work. The phone is unlocked. Why wouldn't I get the 3G.I want the plan that gives me internet mobile browsing. PS it was fido I took it to.
because fido uses 1900 for 3g, from what i've read, and the tmous uses 1700/2100 for 3g., and i think rogers uses 850/1900 and maybe 1900/2100 (just skimming google for this infofact is, though, that without the 1700 aws band,, no high speed data.
you will be able to get gprs and edge for browsing, but no 3g/hsdpa.
as to them saying it won't work, they're probably either making it up or meaning 3g
most canadian users fork out the extra for the telstra model if they want 3g.
Thanks. I guess this phone is useless to me, as I wanted to be able to access the internet without using the wifi.

you can, but only with gprs / edge speeds.
I had been considering buying an HD2 and trying to unlock it for use with an AT&T sim card for my current account. I knew that their networks were compatible, but I didn't realize that hsdpa was on different frequencies. I googled around a bit and it looks like AT&T uses 1900 mhz and Tmo uses 1700/2100. I can't verify if this info is correct ,but this could sure put a dent in my plans. Does anyone know for sure if an HD2 can be used on AT&T's 3g network?
there are several threads about how you can't. go read in the tmous specific section. plenty of confirmation that it doesn't.
3G Frequencies
Hi there!
I was wondering if there is a way to change those settings?? I have a T-Mo HD2, and maybe there is a way to make the phone work with the 3G technology in other frequencies besides the 1700 and 2100 MHz (I live in latin america, so it would have to use the 850Mhz frequency) Anyone please help me with this issue.
As one who unlocked a TMoUS HD2 to AT&T I can assure you that you will not get 3G anywhere in the US or Canada that I can find. On a bright note, it's a phone... With everyone else using 3G networks I find the Edge network to be utterly "unclogged" and find the speeds to be just fine for everything including streaming video.
PS: The phone was free but without a SIM card and I was an AT&T user - not to mention T-Mobile's network leaves a lot to be desired..
There is 3g service in Canada if you happen to be in an area where Wind Mobile is available. search Wind mobile coverage area.
We (family)have several cell phones I use the HD 2 on Edge and it doesn't bother me that its a little slower, actually when I did a quick check with my daughter on her 3g I hardly could tell the difference. I' m sure some will point out where I'm wrong. But I'm satisfied with edge because I enjoy the HD2.
Wind Mobile uses 1700/2100.
I'm leaving for hong kong in a month and I plan to call tmobile to get an unlock code for my phone. I was wondering if our phones would worth there if I picked up a sim card? Would out work with their cell frequency?

I've an unlocked Vibrant and it works just fine here in Jordan, as it did with many countries' sim cards I used when traveling on this phone. So I suppose you wouldn't have a problem.
I'm going to china also. (have a US vibrant)
But what I'm concerned about is :
NOTE: I plan to live in Guangzhou , China.
1) The ability to make phone calls
2) data plans work there? If not, how can I check?
3) So wifi should work (Be universally compatible)?
4) Any other issues? or potential issues?

+1 this is correct you may need to go in and lock the band to whatever they are using over there. Also, it may be cheaper to buy a Hong Kong sim
(prepaid kind) not sure if they do that there but that is often much cheaper look on the net.....

What do you mean by checking what brands they use?
do you mean to check if china mobile service providers use Samsung galaxy s phones? But couldn't they be just using a different version of the phone with differing hardware specs ( as to mins compatible)?
Because, unless im mistaken, the vibrant is unique to America and the rest of the world uses the i9000 galaxy s ? In other words, even if thet use a Samsung smartphone in china, that doesn't guarantee my vibrant to be fully compatible there though right?
Thanks

It should work on everything (calls, texts, everything).
The only problem you might have is 3G. Unless the carrier you are using has the AWS bands (1700/2100), you won't get 3G. You also need BOTH bands to get 3G, not just one.
Although, I suppose if they use AT&T like bands, you would get 3G, as long as they have 1900 support.

Yeah i think 3g is only compatible in the north where they use 1900 band
I used a G1 in China and Honk Kong last summer with my T-mobile SIM. Cellular calls, text and GPRS data worked. I'm not sure if EDGE would work or not (probably have better luck with a local SIM) since I was trying not to use any cellular data at all. I'm pretty sure 3G would not work. I would imagine you would have a similar experience with the Vibrant since it uses the same frequencies as the G1.
So if i'm understanding everything correctly, there are TWO types of compatibilities for phones (mainly):
- Cell network for CALLING (ex: quad band )
- Data frequencies
So the vibrant is QUAD BAND right? so calls for sure will work.
For data:
Do you guys know what frequencies the providers use for data in china and whether the vibrant supports them? (what data bands the vibrant uses?)
Thanks!
Motorola Atrix 4G should work correctly in Brazil 3G? I know that atrix doesnt have 900mhz frequencies, but carriers here have 2100/1800/850 frequencies... i will buy one on ebay unlocked, whats a good prince for it? 400 usd?
another question is, whats the restrictions of motorola on this phone? there is a good some time that i dont hold a motorola phone, my last phone is a x10i from sony...
it have 2.3.x or 3.x firmware? should a buy this really?
You must take in consideration the bands and frequencies for voice and data. Chances are that it could work on voice but not 3G/4G data (only Edge speeds), but please check what voice and data bands your operator works on and compare with those on the Atrix.
What do you mean by 'Restrictions'??? If you are talking about the encrypted bootloader, yes it's encrypted and Motorola is well known for being one of the best to handle encryption. However there is a small light at the end of the tunnel and there seems to be hope that either Moto will unlock it (doubt it myself) or Devs coming up with a way to overcome this limitation.
All in all the Atrix is a great Smartphone even on it's current ROM state.
Cheers!

Well no, 4g is not a protocol per-se, it's just a fancy way of saying fourth generation ...
So yes, a 4g device can be used on a 3g our even edge network as long as the bands match.
Good luck

$1600USD????? Holy crap. They retail for $599cdn here (Atrix 4G) and I think that's steep.
Yes, 4G phones also work on 3G assuming the 4G/3G bands are compatible.
Thats the price on Brazil... R$ 2,600 = 1,595 USD
Thats why i wanna buy from ebay or anything like. Another question is, why this phone on ebay comes without 'original packing'? i have broght anothers models on ebay, but every atrix that i found on ebay comes without packing (but, a good price range... 500 usd).
Is true that i cant install apps from Android Market even if i buy a AT&T Unlocked phone because i need to flash to enable sideloading apps?
Could you not buy a Bell version which already has sideloading enabled and no tethering restrictions? The Bell version seems to be the same as the international version as any leaked sbf (with the exception of ATT) has worked on it so far.
As for the market, I can't see why sideloading would affect market app installs. Sideloading is for installing apk's from your SD card, etc, AFAIK.

The 4g is atts way of saying hspda+ as its still just fast 3g.
As for sideloading on att atrix, yes you can enable it by rooting and using gladenable.

I just purchased a SG SII here in the US and later found out it is a UK phone (the sales rep said it was a US model)
anyway, the phone works great EXCEPT it will not log onto T-Mobiles 3G network. All I get is EDGE which is terrible.
How can I get it to go to 3G?
Spoke with T-Mobile, even got a new sim card. No help
Spoke wth Samsung US - they tried, could not help and then said to contact the UK.
Called Samsung UK and they said it should work, if not, bring it back as it is broken!
anyway, is there some sort of settings that I can change to make it work in the US.
I also need it to work in Brazil as I will be going there and will be using the Brazilian Tim network and installing their sim card.
thank you for your assistance in advance.
The phone is suppose to be:
HSPA+ 21Mbps/ HSUPA 5.76Mbps
EDGE/ GPRS Class 12
Quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Quad band UMTS 850/900/1900/2100
Did you limit the phone to only work with 2G in the settings?
Check Wireless Network settings.
Much more better would be goto Settings->About phone, tell us what Baseband, and Kernel, and ROM version you are using.

Exactly, that phone will never work on T-Mobile USA 3G network, refund it or switch to AT&T. Makes you wish someone would regulate mobile networks here.
Edit: SGS2 should work fine on TIM Brazil.
you guys are absolutely certain that this phone will not work on T-Mobile?
what about certainty that it will work on Tim? I live in Brazil and defintely need it to work there.
Here, in the US, when I return next year, I can alway switch over to AT+T.
I need to be certain because if I get to brazil and it does not work, I am screwed because then it is almost impossible to get anything done to it.
BTW- they have been saying that t-mobile will have this same phone in a few months. How will that one be able to work? will it be possible to flash that info to this phone when it comes out?
thanks

The US T-mobile Variant is completely different from the UK model, won't be the same. Also it's true you can never get 3G with T-Mobile, don't know anything about TIM though.
T-Mobile uses the 1700 AWS band which this phone does not use so yes... You will NEVER get 3g or HSPA+ with T-Mobile U.S.

so when you say fine, the phone, 3g to get to the internet, etc etc will all work?
as it is here, the phone works great and when with wi-fi, the internet is great but EDGE sucks ass.
So, as I already know that I am beating the dead horse. 3G here with T-Mobile is never going to happen but it will work with AT+T, in Brazil, the phone for calls will work fine, 3G will also work fine too.
does anyone know about claro, vivo or oi in brazil? just wondering....
and what about other carriers in the US, will it work with anyone beside AT+T?
thanks again. this has been very useful!
EDGE runs on GPRS. Your phone matches TIM's UMTS frequencies so it will have 3G data on that network.

It's a hardware thing. In the U.S., the only frequencies the Atrix can use for 3G/HSPA+ is 850/1900. Whereas T-mobile uses 1700/2100.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...nt-4g-hspa-phone-will-not-be-covered-by-both/
Now, don't take my word for it but I believe the 2100 UMTS band (which is essentially the HSPA band) is for using as a "World Phone", meaning it can access 3G bands abroad but not here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
Also, the 2100 band that T-mo uses is an AWS band which AT&T cannot use at all. I just wanted to point out that there are some underlying technologies that probably cannot be altered by software.

Because of "tethering" , which is described in many ways all except which are correct and "high data usage"
