What do you miss?

When I went from WebOS to the OG Evo, I missed nothing.
POS Pre-2yrs EVO 3D-3mo. If there was something worth missing I musta missed it!!!
I went from my Palm Pre to my OG Epic and never looked back. Lack of good apps killed WebOS. Now that I have my EVO 3D, happy as a clam.

Mmm no much maybe the notifications were better on web OS imo , but nothing else , screen too small for me
from my shooter rocking myns ROM
Cards view, swyping up to go to cards view. The multitasking.
Say what you want about Android multitasking but it pales in comparison to webos

I agree here. I miss the Multitasking from webos.
I got the palm pre the day it released but it was just too slow to move forward. Switched to the evo4g on release day then over to the 3d a few weeks after release. I miss the "cards" other than that I miss nothing
Yea cards were soo cool n conveinant its a shame how things went down one cool thing in the market has that came from webos is the wave launcher which i have on my 3d its nice to have a little piece of webos still
Brought to you by DonDizzle
Don't panic!!! The man behind webOS is bringing us Ice Cream Sandwich in the next month or two. I'm excited.

Man, there used to be a launcher called Itching Thumb that was JUST like webos's card system. It's not in the Market anymore, though. I definitely used it on my EVO4G, (can't remember whether it was in a Froyo Rom or not) but does anyone else remember that launcher?
<<It ain't over till the fat guy swings.>>
Cards.
Wave launcher (Now I have that, but it's not the same :/)
Notifications were better.
Preware. -- Android needs an app similar to this, where root users can access mods, patches, and ROMs from one area. Only problem with this is that it's not as easy as it was with WebOS, as WebOS patches/mods were simply edits in the HTML5 based OS.

I also miss these.
Cards could be done with a custom ROM, however, it probably won't and it sounds pretty hard to make. Also, how would you access the cards menu? If it was home, you wouldn't be able to use your home screen anymore.
Notifications - There wasn't really an option to clear notifications unless you clicked on the bar at the bottom and sometimes that took up a lot of screen. I personally think android notifications are better, but an enhanced version of WebOS versions would also be really cool.
Preware - This is one thing I think we strongly need on Android. However, since there are so many devices on android, the mods would have to be device specific. Also, like you said, they would be much harder to make which means there wouldn't be that many mods. Even with these limitations, something like Preware or Cydia would be great for android.

Notifications... Either tapped program or swipe back and they would hide... Especially if app was full screen.
And preware could be done... But each device would need its own feeds...

Exactly why I want webOS on my 3d.... Still loved my pre.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Cards, Preware, Multitasking, the intuitive feel of the OS compared to Android, gestures, the polish of the OS.
People complaining about the apps and everything... I don't understand. I used Preware and had all the apps I needed on that thing. I maybe use 10 apps on my Evo/Evo 3d which is a little less than the amount I used on my Pre.
I loved my Palm Pre but when it broke, still have it..., I went to the HTC Touch Pro. Wow. I regret that decision. Then I held on to that POS until the Evo which was awesome but I still like webOS more than Android. People can make all the arguments they want about webOS not having a lot of apps but that never bothered me. Though, Android is awesome compared to iOS and WP7 (tried them both out and meh).
Never had webOS on a cellphone, so got no idea if its as good as people say it is/was.
Had a Touchpad for close to two weeks, and the only thing I miss, are the cards. Not using them for multitasking (since the Touchpad has pretty poor resolution, so it's hard to see what's going on in each card anyways) but I miss closing apps by just swiping the cards up. It's not a problem on my Evom but on the tablet I have, I really miss an easy way of closing programs.
Honeycomb is bad with that, like ALL the apps you've used the last couple of hours pop up if you click the taskswitcher, and if you use a lot of apps it becomes an unholy mess really fast. Would be nice to be able to close old apps in an easy way like that.
Overall webOS on the Touchpad was pretty awful. I ASSUME it was a lot better on cellphones than on the Touchpad, but it was slooow, and would complain if you had too many windows/cards open.
It was crazy how badly polished/finished that OS was... I mean the Touchpad had pretty good hardware, two dualcore Snapdragon CPUs at 1.2-1.4 Ghz. But it was still slow as molasses, and slower for browsing than my old HTC Desire.
The cards were kinda nice though!
HTC plans to release new tablet next year, promises to be different from others....

Well... I was wrong, I thought HTC would exit the tablet market, so we will see.
If you could add any new features, what would they be??? Other than getting updates on time?
Would you consider going to Windows 8 and dropping Android?
The only feature I want from these manufacturers is to support their products for atleast 18 months. We've discussed fragmentation many times but It's getting a little ridiculous. I despise Samsung for not supporting their products only to find other manufacturers doing the same. Very soon the Flyer will be 2 OS's behind and HTC is planning to release another tablet and vowing to be different???? Hey HTC, if you want to be different give a damn about existing users! All the phones on their official Facebook ICS list are current premium phones that they still want to sell so they made a marketing decision to release a statement so sales of current models don't suffer. It's just business to HTC.

Yeah, Google attempted to get the manufacturers to commit to that at the last world wide meeting, but they would not. This will continue to be the downside of Android vs. Apple and Microsoft. Goggle is an advertising company, not a software or phone maker.
But, given that, I sat and wondered to myself, beyond *****ing about lack of updates, if I could ask for any new features I wanted, what would I ask for or which applications or widget would I build? I really could not come up with much, which puzzles me, because I feel that the current set of tablets, including IPad really are lacking, but what is it? Honeycomb certainly looks better on tablets than GB and has a few nice features, so that's good. Ice Cream Sandwich for tablets is not vastly different from Honeycomb. It should look a little better on various screen sizes, but what is really there that will make our tablets that much better?
Let's review the top 10 new features for ICS that we know have been announced.
1. New Browser Functionality (like chrome)
Ok, nice, already in HC
2. Face Unlock
cute, maybe I like that, but for a tablet, I really prefer no lock screen , which HC allows.
3. Android Beam
neat, but requires NFC hardware so no help to Flyer or current devices
4. Ice Cream Sandwich's "People" and social network integration
humm, not much different from HTC Sense widgets, but a neat feature
5. Data Management
nice for people on a tiered data pricing plan that need to limit consumption, not of much use for wifi users and sad to see overall because I think this will be the death of tablets and meda streaming
6. New Camera Capabilities to take faster , better photos
Good to see that Android is trying to catch up to Iphone in this area, I bet some of this is hardware dependent.
7. Voice and Speech improvements
not specific, could be a nice enhancement depending on what comes along. Current capabilities and 3rd party apps already pretty good.
8. Native Screenshots
yawn... can do already
9. Widget Management, resize
Honeycomb already does this if HTC doesn't screw it up with Sense
10. New User Interface
yawn .... nice for phones, but ICS looks pretty much the same as Honeycomb.
I hear you but the Flyer has excellent hardware already, the only thing I wish it had is a flash for the camera. The other features I like are built into Honeycomb and ICS so the ball is still in their court.

By the way the feature that I've been after since Eclair is now part of ICS. The ability to disable apps without root thus removing it from the app drawer.

That's a good one and I like it. It's been a available for a long time in 3rd party launchers like LauncherPro and ADW, as have resizeable and scrollable widgets, but Sense kind of ties our hands on the launcher. The 3rd party launchers were far better than the Android stock launcher in Froyo and GB. Hope that Sense does not mangle the HC and ICS capabilities there.

The problem with 3rd party launchers is that they hide the apps, this native ICS feature is supposed to disable the app, similar to freezing it with tibu. I hope HTC doesnt mangle that one either, we'll see.

I'll have stab at suggesting something: if the stock browser could be capable of keeping playing the audio of one 'tab' whilst we view a different one (does dolphin browser do this?). Then it'd be possible to listen to a TED talk for example AND look at summat else like xdadevelopers... like in windows and mac desktop/laptops etc...

Yes that's true, but I don't have much occasion for apps that would run in the background that I want to disable and still keep installed. Might be useful though, I have to think about that more.

USB host is hardware dependent, not all phones will support it.
The Flyer supports it in Honeycomb and will support it in ICS if it comes too.
Just curious on other peoples opinions of it

It's pricey so I bought it to test it. Refunded shortly after to play with some other launchers. Low ans behold, I went back to rebuy it. Lol. It's pretty unique and really damn smooth. Never thought I would pay that much for an app, but its pretty sweet

I purchased it and got rid of it after about a week. Not worth the price in my eyes especially since I'm not using it. Regardless, still not worth the price. It really made the phone lag in my opinion and you don't have access to a lot of the stock widgets. It's unique but too buggy for me.
Bought it. Regretted it.

I'm not opposed to buying apps, I almost always get the paid version of ANY app just to support the developers.
I made an exception in this case however, the price is so out of line on this app I decided to try a cracked version first. After using it for one day I deleted it and decided the price was ridiculous.
give it time to be worked on. go launcher was great until ICS came. good alternative with similar widgets is adw ex with android perfect widgets. my only problem with spb is no scrollable widgets. once that's available it'll be my default launcher unless that new tsf project can out compete spb which I.doubt since spb was superior back in the winmo days

It's been out for quite a while and most of the complaints have fallen on def ears from what I've seen. Bottom line, it's too expensive. If this app was $1.99 I wouldn't even bother bashing the app.
KORM via the beast known as the Rezound.
I own both Shell and Time. Used both on my Dinc but Sense 3.6 works so well on my Rezy that l'm not compelled to install them now, but maybe someday I'll give them a look again.

Edit: Unless you're rooted lol
Double Edit: For the record I don't buy for a second that "ImageSense" won't run on our phones. They said the same thing about Sense 3.0 and single core CPU phones and Virtuous Fusion ran like a dream on my MT4G even in its beta stages.
P.S. Sorry for the possible thread hijack

ew screw spd shell.
Stock Launcher or Nova Launcher.
The last time I checked it took SPB Shell 3d a long time to load. I don't know if this is the case anymore but on my Droid with only 256mb ram it couldn't handle it lol
works pretty well on the rezound. Phone definitely has the muscle to handle it. I was using it for about the last week when it started having errors and wanting to start in safe mode. Decided to just go back to sense.
Overall I like it, especially all you can add in tablet mode.
Does anyone know what the apps are called in this commercial or if they even really do exist, seems to good to be true.

Looks like the one with the pads is iMusicbox.
The camera app.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I tried to find them as best I could from Market images. Used the assumption that most of them would be paid apps...I think I was right.
The first app (the Metronome) looks like Musical Pro
The piano could be the same app.
The guitar .. looked at a ton of them on market but couldnt find any that had a similar image. On the plus side, there are a lot of good apps that allow you to "play" a guitar on them.
The mixer looking one is Electrum Drum Machine
Using finger to make a sound was Plasma Sound HD
And of course, the built in camera app using smile detection, the continuous shot and video recorder.
I'm not sure what the others were...couldn't get a solid look to determine if they were actually different apps or not.
Anyone using one of the 3d launchers (TSF, Next, SPB) as their main launcher app on their HOX phones?
Obviously with the expense of them, most seem to be around £10 ($14usd) which is very expensive, it isn't really an option to try it for free for 15 minutes. I have tried both Next 3d and TSF Shell, played around for an hour or so then removed them as the apps were from a naughty source.
They certainly look cool enough, but us there really any advantage to them over the usual launchers such as Nova, Apex, Holo etc.
I found TSF shell the nicest and smoothest but had a bit of a learning curve, no fixed dock etc.
Apologies for the crappy topic, just wanted to get some thoughts on these launchers, gimmicky or not?
I love SPB, very polished and even nicer in tablet mode. But... way to much monies.
It's a lot of money for eye candy!
We androiders are a strange breed that like control. We also are restless types that change our launchers every six months or so.
So if you have the money Go for it but be aware that in a few months you will go back to an old favourite or move on to the next flashy launcher.
