Faulty Flash, SBL damaged? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
Yesterday I experienced a bad flash on my Galaxy S II (Kies crashed) and ever since, the screen doesnt turn on. The device does get warm (so i assume it does turn on) but it doesn't visibly react on anything else that I do. I cannot seem to start it with the three button combo(s) and plugging in a charger doesn't show the charging animation.
Is there anybody who has had previous experience with this (or something similar) and knows a way I can still flash my phone in order to restore it?
Also: Has anybody updated their SGSII via Kies? How does that work?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried a jig to force download mode?

Where can I get a jig for sgs II? Does the one for sgs I work?
Sent from my U8120 using XDA Premium App

yeah Jigs work from GS1. Ebay is your friend or u can make one urself.

Thanks. I'll try as soon as i get access to the necessary materials.

maybe this video helps u a bit..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YRPWU4waa4

If the phone turns on, although without the screen, maybe you can connect with adb? If so "adb reboot download" should get you in download mode.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App

I tried the usb connectivity. The phone makes no USB connection whatsoever.
I'll try the jig once i get home (where i have the necessary resistances and calbes/connectors).
If it doesnt work I'll try to get it repaired through normal warranty channels.

Well I'm sad to report that with a JIG, the phone does appear to start as before (black screen and gets warm) but there is no download logo nor is it recognizable by PC/Odin.
Going back to try to get warranty on this tomorrow.
Any other idea are welcome of course.

Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Take out battery, run odin, plug usb into computer, plug usb into phone, hold volume up and down but not the power button, replace battery at same time as you hold the two buttons. You really can't kill this phone.

get/make a jig as long as your battery still has juice this will force your phone into download mode, from there odin back to stock 2.1 (JFD) i have had the least issues when odining back to JFD

A usb jig is a micro usb connector with 301k ohm resistance e across two specific connections ( don't rmr which two connections) that rocks the phones circuitry into pushing the phone into download mode, if I recall correctly instructions on the formation of a jig can be found in the vibrant general section

it would help you get into download mode, but aside from that when you press the power button do you see the home keys turn on? if you do id imagine a jig would help. However if not even that helps you probably need to send the phone in.
No, not even the home keys light up.
Crap dont tell me i have to turn it in :/
you try the jig first, its like 5 dollars worth of parts and can only help. Give it a shot, who knows you may get lucky, it could also be that your battery is just drained try charging it in a friends vibe or captivate and see what happens. but at this point it sure looks like you might have to turn it in
This is the second time this happens to me.
Ill just tell Samsung that my phone wont turn on again. Thats what i did when i was rooted and decided to flash my phone to froyo via kies. I didnt get charged $400, so look like they never got it back on either.
did you end up sending it in? this exact same thing just happened to me
^ can you see Anything? Battery charging, cutting it on, trying recovery or download? If so, you are fine. If not, removebattery, wait a while, try again still nothing? Brick likely. What did you do, very hard to brick this phone.
just like the OP said. upgraded to 2.3..didnt like it, tried to go back to 2.2 using odin. it said passed! and has not booted up since..no d/l, no recovery, just black...no nothin
Are the buttons at the bottom lit? Or is it like your phone is just dead? If not the latter, try Eugene's froyo that doesn't brick.
it's like the phone is dead. i cant get anything
Doesn't sound good if you can't see anything. I've seen some say they've removed the battery avg let some time pass and then they were able to get it working, but that seems crazy to me.
unfortunately, i'm not one of those people. i left the battery out for 8+ hrs. and tried again..to no avail....

[Q] HELP HELP HELP phone wont turn on samsung galaxy s 4g

i tried to put 2.3 gingerbread on my samsung galaxy s 4g and i was using odin and during the process it failed and my phone shut off. It wont turn on when plug in i hold all the buttons nothing works. tried to put in download mode doesnt turn on nothing works please i need help i just got the phone tried to put 2.3 gingerbread on and it failed now my phone wont turn on. i basically tried every thing and nothing works.
Oh great.... I don't want to be the person to deliver bad news. But I believe you have screwed up your bootloader stage 1. That means you can button clickyour way into download mode or recovery. Also known as a HARDBRICK. The gingerbread ROM from Samsung comes with new bootloaders, which is always a very risky thing to change. I know a JIG probably won't work but its worth a try. :/ sorry but I think your SOL. Read this actually.

Yeah you can. Just send it in to samsung and say kies screwed it up or something. They should do it. Other wise you will have to break the phone open and do a flash box. Its in that link! Hope you can fix it man :/

I am having the EXACT same problem. ODIN failed and it just froze on downloading screen so I had no other choice but to try rebooting the phone but of course, phone is now dead.
I tried putting it on download mode too but will no longer work.
I guess it is bricked unless if anyone has any idea to give life to this thing.
I'm having the exact same problem.. I might try having a professional flash box it, I'll let you know how it goes.
There is a good Samsung unbrick method here, works for Odin I used it 3 times in 20 minutes on my captivate, hold home, volume down, and power, put in USB with Odin running, and it should go into download mode, then reflash.
The worst that will happen is you will still be bricked, there is more info round the site, just gotta read.

Send it in for repair but say nothing about odin or root
I have sent for repair
Already sent for repair. I said it would not switch on or charge. To be honest I feel that samsung need to address this issue as if the operating system fails on a pc you can reload and away you go. The same should be said for a phone. There should be a fail safe that always puts the phone back to download mode. I thought the jig was the answer but not always so BE CAREFUL.
I sent my phone to tmobile they repaired it free

Same wonder
My SGS2 is hard bricked, no question about it. Nothing happens no matter what button press, usb connection etc. Dead as a doornail.
From what I've read the JIG will only help if you have, at bare minimum, backlights or a vibration when you hit the power button. As I have literally nothing this means I'm 'hard' bricked in which case the JIG shouldn't work.
I've a JIG on order and should arrive tomorrow. I'll try every which way with it, button combos, plugging in USB, removing and replacing battery etc. If i get any response or any success I'll report back. If not, I've found a few places that can JTAG so I'll go that route and again report back.

Need help getting Vibrant from ICS to factory stock.

I'm sure this has been asked before and I apologize for asking again if so. (I tried to search but couldn't find the files I need.)

I know I have to repartition to go back but I can't find the factory Odin and PIT file I need.

Awesome! Thanks.
New problem. (Small but important.)
I am not able to get into Odin download mode. I have all my drivers installed and when I connect the phone the battery icon pops up but if I do the three button method the screen goes black like it's supposed to be it just reboots and either goes back to the battery or powers on. (I am on ICS Passion V12 if that helps any.)
Any advice? I'm stuck without linking with Odin.

Cut the phone off, pull the battery out and put it back in. Hold volume up and volume down keys at the same time(do not hold power button) and plug the usb cable in. If you have gingerbread boot loaders then it's really simple, cut the phone off and hold volume up key only then press the power button.

It appears I can't catch a break!:crying:
I got the phone restored to 2.1 and it worked flawlessly.
I plugged it up to my pc to upgrade to 2.2 through Kies. I had charged to 100%, it upgraded successfully and said the device would reboot. It never did.
It appears Kies and 2.2 have hard bricked the phone. I don't get a charging indicator and can't get into recovery or download. The phone is completely unresponsive.
I am really starting to hate Samsung.
Yea - there should be a big warning everywhere not to use kies.
If you connect the phone to the pc does it show up in Odin? If so flash away.
Try the battery method again. Also instead of going to 2.1 you may want to try the Froyo KB5 2.2 Heimdall 1-click:

Doesn't show in odin cause I can't get into download mode. :-( I'm afraid it's a hard brick as I get no response at all no matter what I try.
have you tried
1. unplugging the phone
2. pulling the battery
3. plugging it into the computer
4. place the battery back in
5. holding volume up + volume down + power
this is how i got to download mode when my phone wasn't responding

Just tried it again. No luck. I guess the phone is trash thanks to Samsung. :-/
Hey there. My phone was unresponsive as well, would not go into download mode, even tried the battery thing..
This link, One-Click Unbrick
Try that and see if it works for you, make SURE you have the latest Java.
My phone wasn't completely black, I had the Phone to PC error, but I could NOT get it to get into download or even see that something was plugged in. It was unresponsive to everything. I tried this program and BAM, I'm back into bootlooping. Shut my phone off, turned on in bootloader and reinstalled everything.
You MAY have to reinstall somethings so you might have to go back to square one, however at least you'll have a working phone.
Kies also bricked my first Galaxy.
Hopefully the One-Click unbrick will work for you! I wish you good luck!

Samsung may replace the phone for you, call and tell them it bricked while using kies. For future reference do NOT use kies ever again, it is known to brick devices. If your phone is getting no power at all, then calling Samsung is your only choice and hope they replace it for you. I wish I would have known you were planning to use kies, definitely would have warned you not to. You can look into buying a usb jig for your phone, they are under $5 and maybe could help. You can also make them yourself for around 1 dollar.

The phone is out of warranty so I'm sure if they'd replace it or charge me to fix it.
The jig thread said it didn't work if you are completely unresponsive.
I'd used Kies on my Wife's Captivate and had no problems so I didn't know it would wonk up my sons Vibrant.
I'll try out the 1 click method and update.

Yea you could be right about the warranty issue but it was Samsung's program that screwed up your phone. If you haven't called them already, I would call and explain that you would still have a working phone if it wasn't for kies bricking your device. After all, Samsung recommends us to upgrade through kies even tho it has caused more damage than good from my experience. It's worth a try, you never know.

Bricked phone? Or just plain dead broken,

Hi guys, I know perhaps im not suppoes to type this here. But, while following a guide for the ALLIANCE Rom. The powergrid in my building went down, and my phone is just wacked dead. I did start the ODIN procedure, went about 2 min and then poff. My phone wont start no matter what I do now, any tip on what I can do to get it runing again? Can't start in normal, recovery or download mode. I've tried soft and hard reset aswell, any ideas?

That I can indeed. But I do not have the time to wait, I need my cellphone, my old Rom and Kernel were really bad and laggy ,needed a new one, and found a recommended one. Since im on a buisness trip, getting a Jig and waiting for setting it up just won't work. Is there no other way? For example getting it on to the pc, booting it up in some way there getting it in DL mode and get the Stock Kernel or something?
Nope. If a jig doesn't work, it's either a JTAG (actually, it may be JTAG'able given it died during a flash), or some kind of hardware repair (maybe replace motherboard).
Not sure what you're expecting anyone here to say to you beyond "Try a jig", etc, etc ? Not like we can scatter some magic pixie dust & your phone will be all better.
If the phone won't boot, you've tried another battery & you have no download/recovery mode, you're toast. Or......maybe try King Rat's trick where he attempts to 'jump start' the phone without the battery using just the charger (search for his username then go thru his posts till you find the method). There's a 0.000000001% chance that might work.
Edit - If you're in the position of 'Your phone just has to work. All the time" (as you appear to be in), flashing anything on your phone is folly. If you really need it, that's the last thing you should be doing given the risks (tho normally small) involved.
