TO GET YOUR MSL USING CDMA WORKSHOP
Please be very careful with CDMA Workshop. I am not responsible for your curiosity, or stupidity!
I have included screenshots for installing the drivers on Windows 7 x64. This seems to be a little different for most users, so I hope this helps. Windows XP should be pretty similar to below. You can enter Device Manager the same way. Some of the prompts will be slightly different, but at the end most of the same dialogs will appear.
Prerequisites:
CDMA Workshop - http://www.cdma-ware.com/workshop.html
The Demo version will be able to retrieve the MSL.
HTC Diag Drivers - http://www.techwerkz.com/evo/HTCDiagDrivers.zip
I have compiled this zip which includes both x86 (32 bit), and x64 (64 bit) drivers for HTC diagnostics. I have successfully tested the x64 drivers on Windows 7, and all works without issue.
The Fun Part
Step 1 - Dial ##DIAG# (##3424#) on your phone.
Step 2 - Connect the phone to the computer via the USB cable. When prompted to install the drivers use the drivers from the ZIP provided above.
Windows will probably not be able to find the drivers:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
You will need to manually install the drivers from Device Manager. Quickest way to get there is to press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog. Type in devmgmt.msc:
Once Device Manager is open you will see it cannot find the HTC Diag driver :
Right click on HTC Diag, and go to Update Driver. You will be prompted with the following, choose Browse my Computer. Then choose Let me Pick. Click Next. Click Have Disk. Browse to the drivers you downloaded, and choose the proper INF file. Click Next. Then finally Yes, if prompted :
If all went well you will see it installing the driver. Then finally let you know it was successfully installed!
Step 3 - Run CDMA Workshop you downloaded earlier.
Once CDMA Workshop is open click the word Port found on the left:
You will be given the options to select the correct COM port (Please note the demo version will only go to COM9. If you have an issue with this please follow this tutorial written by me to lower you port if you have one above 9.....
1. Connect your phone to computer and dial ##3424#
2. Go to device manager and double click modem.. you should see something named HTC USB modem #2 if you see that do a right click and click propeties (it might freeze for a few seconds, if nothing happens try again.)
3. Once the propeties window opens click on the tab advance.
4. Look for Advance Port Settings, and click it.
5 .A new window should open.. now u should be able to see the option to change the COM Port its called COM Port Number... Make sure you change it to port 9 and below... Once you done changing the port press ok, ok and exit device manager
You succesfully change your port! and now you are able to use CMDA Workshop!
Once the correct COM port is selected click Connect:
Head over to the Security tab and click Read under the SPC / User Lock section:
If all has gone well you will be given your MSL code! It is the 6 digit number listed after pressing Read. Great Success!
Testing
The following sections should prompt for your MSL code. Enter what you have retrieved to find out if it is in fact the correct MSL code.
##data# (##3282#)
##debug#(##33284#)
##diag#(##3424#)
##svn#(##786#)
##prev#(##7738#)
##vocoder# (##8626337#)
If you followed the steps correctly, the code should work.
Hope this helps everyone with finding their MSL when Sprint will not give it to you. Again, I am not responsible for what you do with this information. This is a use at your own risk method!

I already had my msl. followed the other forum can confirm increase in speeds thank you quick note on evo 3d after hitting advanced scroll down to bottom its in the rtsp/http setting

All devices/phones have different MSLs... for now u need to use this method to be able to retrieve the msl.. tha app won't work bc we dont have root (YET! )

First of all, thank you for the tip but on the original thread, it states "HTTP PD Proxy Port & HTTP PD Proxy Address" but on the Evo 3D I see a "HTTP proxy IP" and "HTTP proxy port". Looks and sounds the same, just would like to be sure.Thank you in advance.

Thank you. I did see an increase in 3G speeds.

You could just call Sprint and ask nicely for your MSL. It worked for me.

Yeah just said I was going to do some diagnostics, but she did ask if this was the first time calling so I might not get the same help again. Make sure you write it down so you will always have it in case Sprint wants to be difficult.

Okay, I called and got my MSL.. Now what do I do??? change to port and proxy to 0 and 0.0.0.0??? like on the OG EVO?? thanks
EDIT... MISSED IT SORRY..

This is what I am wondering also. I changed this and rebooted my phone and it made me lose my data connection all together. Had to go back and change it again. Can someone elaborate on the specific area I need to change on the 3d, cause its a little different than the 4G. Thanks

My changes..
Nice.. got my msl.. I changed a few things that I have changed on my TP2 and Evo4G like
Enabled USB charging
Slot cycle index to 1 ..delay between phone checking tower for incoming calls.. aka slightly quicker ring time..
ACCOLC to 2 ...priority on tower - set between 2-9 .. 2 is highest.. 1 is for emergency numbers
EVRC-B to enable ....all of the follwing are for supposed better voice quality... can't say I notice a difference..
Home Orig - EVRC-B
Roam Orig - EVRC-B
and..
HTTP Proxy Port to 0
HTTP Proxy Address to 0.0.0.0 .. 3g internet speed increase
Seems to be working great...

How did you get them to do that? I just called and was told they have a new policy as of the 22nd to not give out the MSL.

I did it minutes ago and they gave it to me. Just tell them you are running diagnostics she was very nice.
Edit: 728kbps down and 600 up

Does someone have instructions to change my COM port? Tried to google it but kinda confusing. Thanks.

Are you trying to get MSL? Calling Sprint was easier then dealing with all the other stuff. I just called *2 and then ask for technical support, if one turns you down call again. I didn't get turned down, just make it sound like a legitimate reason for needing it. Say you are a dev or running diag.

As I use Software developed by XDA-members, I decided to give back a little bit... So I developed a piece of software, with which you can send Magic Packets to Computers either over LAN or over Internet.
Furthermore you can execute bat- and vbs-files on a pc running the server-app "batExec" remotely from the internet / lan / wlan. I think bat- and vbs-files are very flexibel, thats why I chose them to be started by the server-app...
I used the fantastic Sense SDK v1.39 of eboelzer, to match the design-technical requirements of our (HD2-)Device
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648906
Naturally I tested the software and on my HTC HD2 it works without any errors...
By the way... this is a .net compact framework v3.5 compatible program. It does not work with lower version of the framework.
You can get the framework here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-3C6B-42F1-9FD9-0041345B3385&displaylang=en

Informations regarding batExec:
Just copy the bat-files you wan't to be executed to the following path:
The programs installation directory/bat/
In my case: C:\Program Files\BatExec\bat\
Don't forget to open the port you use at Windows Firewall (or at any other fw...)
This is all you have to do. My app reads the bat-files in this directory and sends their names to the client app... then just tap one and it will be executed by the server-app...
Options are self-explanatory, i guess...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe some general informations about WoL:
To use WoL over lan, you do not need anything else like WoL configured on your nic / BIOS and a connection to your (home-)network with your device (over W-Lan...)
If you want to use WoL over the Internet you have to do some more things:
Configure WoL on your Network Card
You have to activate WOL on your network-card! If your network-card is a newer one, you can probably set up this option at Device-Manager --> right click on your network-card --> Advanced --> Somewhere at the options there (look for WoL, Magic Packets, Remote start, ...)
At older PC's I often saw this option in system BIOS...
Sometimes I had to do both of these things to get WoL working as well...
Configure Port-Forwarding on your Router (Directed Broadcast)
You have to forward a port on your router (e.g. port 7) to your local-network-broadcast-address... (If the IP of the "WoL" - Computer is 192.168.1.10 then the broadcast-address is most likely 192.168.1.255)
Set up WoL everywhere with public ip and forwarded board
Fill in the field IP into my program with the public (outside)- ip of your router (or the DynDNS-Domain-Name) and the forwarded port into port.
Start your PC's
If you set up everything correctly, you should be able to start your PC's from wherever you want, and whenever you want...
Here a guide on HOW TO set your PC/laptop up in order to be turned on with your phone WITHIN your home LAN/WIFI. (Thanks tomthemd =)
Pls. report found bugs, as I'll try to fix them...
If you find any spelling / grammar mistakes in my description-thread or in my program, pls. let me know too... (I'm not an english pro) !!!
So I hope you enjoy this program!

this will come in handy.. thanks
It works great on HD2! Even power on (not just from sleeping but shut down) is working over 3G. Thanks!
Looks very cool
Unfortunately I'm not enough of a geek I guess. When I set up port forwarding, I have to provide a protocol to use. Any clue what that should be?
You have to use UDP as protocol...
Damn linksys routers wont let you forward .255....
Lan works perfectly!
you cant use this if your pc is wifi only though can, main pc downstairs connected to the router mine is wifi upstairs, just been reading WOL cant be done over wireless??

No it cant, as your wireless card/device needs to be powered to have a connection to your network.
Even when your PC is off and is hard wired you have link lights showing the connection.
Wireless needs to be powered to work.
cheers MalekoUK thought i had read right well in a fashion you can do it but you need, "the network card must support it and may need a special jumper cable to connect to the motherboard's Wake-on-LAN connector (a three-pin connector on motherboards using an ATX power supply"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN
hey ho oh well ill do this at the missus house haha

At my linksys it works (WRT54GCv3)

OK, I've tested it on following hardware:
1.Router Linksys (WRT54GCv3, Firmware Version: 1.00.14)
- port forwarding:
port number: 7, UDP to broadcast address xxx.xxx.xxx.255 (with a little helpful trick described in above post - it works on that router)
2.Lenovo T61p at docking station (lan connected to it)
3. HTC HD2 (ROM 1.48.479.1)
The PC awoke up from local network and Internet (3G) as well
The only problem with apps was to fill up the WAN IP when the field was hidden by manila pop up keyboard

Finally someone made a finger-friendly WOL.
Thanks LichtiMC really enjoyed it!
Unfortunately I never got to use WOL over the internet with my router, I tried several times and always end giving up.
I will explain here my attempts to see if someone with the same hardware can help me. I have a linksys WRT54G v6.0 with firmware DD-WRT v24 SP2 micro.
I've tried to port (7) forwarding to host ip (192.168.1.79) or to broadcast (192.168.1.255), both do not work. Also tried to add a startup script on the router but did not work too.
I made a picture of my attempts, if anyone can help me I'd be grateful.

My problem is only with internet, under my home network works smoothly. I also can wol under my web interface of my firmware and if I click on "Wake Up" under WOL Addresses I can wake my laptop without error.
I think my problem is in the port forwarding, though it does appear as if they were forwarding (as pictured) I think is not!
Is there any way to check if the ports are open or not? Most software that I know for this function only works when the port are active. None of them recognized port 7 as open.
Thanks for any help!
Thank you so very much for taking the time to share this with us.
I have been wanting something like this ever since March 15th.
hello there... i hope @LichtiMC won't mind to place his thread as an app request in android forums!!
if you can compile it for android that would be excellent, or you can share the code with the developers willing to start this project!
thanx in advance!
great job, finealy somebudy tought about this
but i think you need to post a good "how to" configure your router or get your ip from the system.

Hi LichtiMC!
Great piece of software! Working flawless on my TP2. Found 1 minor bug: I certainly tried it out localy at first, when taping "WoL over Internet" after that again the "Network/Local" bar comes up but the "IP/Host" and "Port" fields are missing. After a little swipe up and down the display they appear. Not realy a bug, more a graphical issue.
Thank you for sharing!
Edit: Is there a workaround for Fritz!Box 7170 to get the Broadcast-IP into the field? It tells me 192.XXX.XXX.255 is not allowed. I'll try with the computers IP for now, first I've got to setup a dyndns ;-)

[MOD] 4G HACK - 0_o

people....
put this in your ROMs, do whatever, it is a free for all. Flashable zip (because some people don't like editing things themselves ) to increase 4G data transfer speeds...
basically removes data transfer restrictions from the device... you will tap out your wimax connection wherever possible. I live in a 4G area, and this literally doubled my transfer speeds....
doesn't improve signal strength, just removes restrictions through wimax binaries, libs, network settings, etc...
be careful with this... i know some people who have been flagged for fast data transfer... lol.
like myself.
*evilnesssss
and whoever says sprint doesn't throttle is full of ***T!
wipe cache, dalvik a few times before flashing, just to be safe. just good practice.

this test was done beforehand.... and was half this..... i live about 3/4 mile from a tower...
LOL THANKS
Edit if I were you I'd remove that from Dropbox they suspend your public upload rights if people download too much

For 3G, you can also up the speeds on it.
1. Get your MSL, MSL reader in the market
2. After you have your MSL go to your phone and type ##3282#
3. Click Edit Mode
4. Click Advanced
5. Scroll down to HTTP PD Proxy Port & HTTP PD Proxy Address
6. Change HTTP PD Proxy Port to 0 (zero)
7. Change HTTP PD Proxy Address to 0.0.0.0
8. You'll have a .20-.60 mbps increase in 3G speeds.
I went from 114kb/s to 222kb/s with a really poor reception...so it helps sometimes.
I just tried it and it didn't make any difference for me... Hopefully it will help others though. Ran a speed test before running this and I was at 10Mbps, same speed after too.
what happens when they flag you?

Nope, but you can get a further distance reception.
1)You need to go to your EPST menu by ##3282#
2)Edit mode. Enter MSL
3)Tap WiMAX, and scroll to (about) the middle.
4)Look for a section called " WiMAX_Entry_RX(RSSI)(dBm) " and change this from -89 to -109, this will allow a further distance reception.
5)Press MENU, and Commit Modifications!

can someone provide proof that is works? because sprint does throttle your data speeds at the tower not the phone. This being i was a sprint tech for over 6 years.
cobraboy85 said:
as mentioned, doesn't increase signal strength....
just removes throttle.
also, link updated.
made a huge difference for me at my buddy's house... he lives 100 feet from a tower and i downloaded myn's full rom in 2 minutes.

Wi-Fi Hotspot Solution for Noobs (Connectify+SeventhGate)

Trying to make my notebook a wifi hotspot for my Evo 3D but taking down by the unfriendly Connectify.
It just kept obataining IP address and sometimes it got connected but couldn't open any page due to network error.
I'm just a noob and don't wanna dealing with something advanced like wpa_suppliment blah blah blah. Till then, I found SeventhGate after googling hard.
The steps are so easy like abc. Yeah, that's noob's way. Here are the steps:
1. Install Connectify on your notebook.
2. Activate your notebook network connection (LAN, dial-up modem, etc.) and its wifi.
3. Run Connectify, fill out "Hotspot Name" and "Password" and also choose "Internet" connection mode.
4. Click "Start Hotspot" on Connectify and then just stop it.
5. Download SeventhGate at http://seventhgate.codeplex.com/releases/view/81960 and install it.
6. Run SeventhGate, choose the active "Network Connections" (or one of them if you have more than 1 internet connection) which you want to share via wifi
7. Fill out "Network Name", "Password" (min. 8 characters), and "Clients limit"
8. Click "Start"
9. Activate your Evo 3D wifi, connect to the "Network Name" you've made before and enter the password
10.Happy browsing! with your droid and notebook at once with only one internet connection!
Note:
- If you ask me why I don't uninstall Connectify?
+ Because sometimes SeventhGate can't recognize any active network connection eventhough you've already activated it.
When this occurs, close SeventhGate, run Connectify, "Start Hotspot", after that stop it.
Re-run SeventhGate and the active network connections are available again on the menu.
I don't know why, at least it works.

really? really really sorry then for my bad English. I just want to make every step clear enough, I think I've done the opposite. In a nutshell, I can say the point of this thread is just installing Connectify & SeventhGate on notebook, SeventhGate as the main Wi-Fi hotspot program and Connectify as the connection finder, just in case.

So, this thread is about setting up a wifi hotspot on a notebook so you can connect your phone to it? Seems a little a$$ backwards to me and I am guessing that 99.9% of people on this forum will never have to use this as that 99.9 percent have data/wifi for their phone. But, cool solution non the less, I guess.

Absolutely right. In my country (Indonesia), most smartphones are GSM and the data connection can be categorized expensive yet slower than CDMA, I posted this thread to try helping kinda people like in my country dreaming cheap high speed internet, although it lacks mobility.

I had problems connecting with "open" network type in connectify. I use the secure "WPA-P2SK" to share using connectify and it works fine om my PC at least.
And there is "Intel My WiFi technology" which works too provided you have a supported hardware.
in that case..you can mhotspot dude..it is PORTABLE

Static ip configurations and proxy settings on ICS !

I am starting this thread to let you guys know that the new ICS from Sony contains static ip and PROXY configurations in the stock Rom itself !!
But the thing i,s it can so happen that without a proper guide, it can be easily overlooked and one may think that "Sony dint provide us with proxy this time also and above that they removed static ip settings too ?"
Hehe well fear not guys.....its not so..
Here are the steps to set up static ip for anyone needing to do this.
1. go to system settings
2. click on wifi
3. click on add network
4. enter your network ssid
5. choose your security
6. enter your password for you network
7. click save
ok here is where you have to let it find the network, let it connect and aquire an ip address (even thou it is not the correct one) let it do its thing. do not skip this step otherwise you will not be able to configure the ip or save it.
once it says it is connected go back and do steps 1-2
you will see your network and it should say connected.
long press on your network name. it will bring up 2 options.
1 forget network
2 modify network config.
click on modify network config
it will bring up a bunch of settings. scroll down till you see a box that says :" Show advanced options"
click on the box. ( do not save or cancel the window)
scroll down a little bit and you will see 2 boxes
1 proxy settings
2 ip settings <<< click on the lower right hand coner and change this from dchp to static.
once you do this you will see settings under that box input all your info into these boxes *****( leave 3rd box that says " network prefix length" at 24 )******* once you have completed click save and your phone should be connected to you static ip network..
1 ip address
2 gateway
3 network prefix length (Leave this at 24)
4 dns 1
5 dns 2
6 ******* CLICK SAVE ********* not cancel or you will have to repeat the process. LOL Dont ask how i know this 3 times.. LOL
I hope this helps everyone.
If this helped hit the Thanks button.
Similarly you can configure proxy also.
Plz don't forget to thank galaxyuser88 as this was originally his guide. Thanks..

that's actually a very good feature, which i was hoping to Sony implement it, and here it is and the good thing is all the setting can be backup at Google server, so next time you just need to configure one wifi configuration and all the setting will be restore

HotSpot / Tethering Settings:
(You set this up to your liking, I entered everything in case the program needs all the fields. I used my ssid, encryption type wpa2-psk, my password is my phone number, and Wifi Channel 1.)
Device Settings:
Interface: wlan0 (Default)
Method: 3 - HostApd
Drivers: nl80211
The rest I left alone. Please report if it works for you too. Thanks!

No prob. We're here to help each other! :good:
I've been using this app for about 2 months now without any problems, up until about 2 weeks ago. Now if I'm in default LTE mode, my laptop and tablet can connect to the hotspot, but I can't open a webpage in Firefox on either device, it just times out. I've verified that Firefox on my phone can access them. Also, I can open a cmd prompt on the laptop and get successful pings on google.com, but it still times out on the laptop or tablet.
If I reboot the phone to be on CDMA/EVDO then everything works fine, just slower. I'm on Sprint. I sent an email to the developer, and he stated he didn't think it was a problem in the app itself but advised me to check the APN settings. I can't seem to locate them on this phone.
Anyone else having this problem, or have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Try changing your DNS to 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2 4.2.2.3 4.2.2.4 etc etc

Didn't change anything. Re-reading my original post, I realize I wasn't clear on a point:
I can ping google.com and get replies from a command prompt on my laptop when I'm attached to the wifi router and the phone is in LTE mode, but my web browser (firefox) will not display the google home page. If I select CDMA mode on the phone, then I can get to google from firefox.
Since I'm getting ping replies, I doubt DNS is the culprit. Seems like it's something with port 80. I'm starting to think Sprint did something to block the app on the LTE network.
Just to check, I reset my phone to factory default and re-installed the app. Same results.
Anyone else having problems with this while on LTE?
Thanks.

I contacted the developer Fabio, and he thinks I need to change some settings in the APN IPV4 protocol. Problem is, I can't seem to find where to change the settings on this phone. They should be in settings>connections>more networks>mobile networks, but the options are not on that screen. I'm really starting to regret getting this phone. I love the phone itself, but Sprint did a few things to "dumb down" the ROM that just plain piss me off. OK, I get they took out native tethering so they could sell that option. I don't like it, but at least it makes some kind of sense. They also took out the option in contacts to send a incoming call from a given contact straight to voicemail. That just makes no sense whatsoever. Also, I don't like there are no custom ROMs for this phone. If I could get this phone with a plain vanilla Android without all the Sprint mods, I'd be in heaven.
Anyway, does ANYONE have Wifi Tethering working on this phone (LPH-600) with Sprint and LTE?

Try APN Backup Restore, do a backup, gab the XML and open it with notepad or text wranger or any text editor to see if you find the setting that needs to be changed.
