people....
put this in your ROMs, do whatever, it is a free for all. Flashable zip (because some people don't like editing things themselves ) to increase 4G data transfer speeds...
basically removes data transfer restrictions from the device... you will tap out your wimax connection wherever possible. I live in a 4G area, and this literally doubled my transfer speeds....
doesn't improve signal strength, just removes restrictions through wimax binaries, libs, network settings, etc...
be careful with this... i know some people who have been flagged for fast data transfer... lol.
like myself.
*evilnesssss
and whoever says sprint doesn't throttle is full of ***T!
wipe cache, dalvik a few times before flashing, just to be safe. just good practice.

just do a full backup of the entire system partition. that will work. much easier, and less of a hassle
For 3G, you can also up the speeds on it.
1. Get your MSL, MSL reader in the market
2. After you have your MSL go to your phone and type ##3282#
3. Click Edit Mode
4. Click Advanced
5. Scroll down to HTTP PD Proxy Port & HTTP PD Proxy Address
6. Change HTTP PD Proxy Port to 0 (zero)
7. Change HTTP PD Proxy Address to 0.0.0.0
8. You'll have a .20-.60 mbps increase in 3G speeds.
I went from 114kb/s to 222kb/s with a really poor reception...so it helps sometimes.
I just tried it and it didn't make any difference for me... Hopefully it will help others though. Ran a speed test before running this and I was at 10Mbps, same speed after too.

Nope, but you can get a further distance reception.
1)You need to go to your EPST menu by ##3282#
2)Edit mode. Enter MSL
3)Tap WiMAX, and scroll to (about) the middle.
4)Look for a section called " WiMAX_Entry_RX(RSSI)(dBm) " and change this from -89 to -109, this will allow a further distance reception.
5)Press MENU, and Commit Modifications!

I rooted my phone, and tried using WiFi Tether, Wireless Tether for Root Users, Barnacle, and Open Garden, but none of them work. Most throw an error of some sorts, while one just force closes and the other starts with no errors, but when I attempt to connect it shows as an ad-hoc rather than a network, and won't let me access the internet.
Do we need a modified kernel to get this to work properly?
WiFi Tether works. I get an error on start up sometimes. To inconveniently get it working sometime I have to go into SuperSU and select WiFi Tether then click save. Start up WiFi Tether after that and it works fine.
Settings:
Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Netd-Ndc (master)
Routing fix
Other people might have better fixes but this works for me until I run across a better fix.
Not sure if you saw this but check out this thread:

1.) Install: WiFi Tether
2.) Go to settings WIFI -> Device-Profile and pick Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)

Not any extra charges than using data regularly. But if you tether 7 gigs of data on a 6 gig data plan you will be charged for the overage.

Thanks! This answers my question.
I had a DROID Razr and used the "entitlement_check”" method with SQLite Editor and this method allowed the data being used with Verizon's Mobile Hotspot not to count against my data plan. I am looking for a way do the same with my Note 2. Anyone know of any Apps or leads on how to accomplish this?
My Note 2 is rooted.
Are you sure? This doesn't sound right.
There's just no way that you can magically access data network and not let it count. Sure your device won't be the one using it 1st hand, but something is receiving and transmitting data through your phone's connection and I'm sure Verizon will know data is being used.

Not sure why you are hanging out in the DNA forums, when you a note 2 .... but anyways, on to your question ...
It sounds like when you got your Note 2, you switched to a shared data plan. With that plan, you should be able to use the built-in wifi hotspot, without any issues except one: it will come out of your data bucket.
When you had the Droid Razr, the sqlite change merely made it so you could use the built in hotspot software w/o VZW checking to see if you paid for it, but it DID come out of your data bucket (but you were probably on an unlimited bucket at the time).

He wasn't saying it doesn't charge for data, he's saying it doesn't charge data as being tethered data. For example, using Verizon's tethering app, that goes against a different limit, with an additional charge. With the wireless tether app, the data being used just goes against your regular phone data.

I am basing this on several road trips I made where my family used my DROID's hotspot to access the internet with a laptop and an iPad. I checked my data usage both on "My Verizon" widget and my bill and the data usage was not significantly higher than normal. Now, maybe the above method truly uses my data plan and I just did not notice a significant difference on my bill.

so what if they know data is being used. The phone is capable of transferring any packet data on its own that a tethered device might generate so yes they might be able to tell but ive been tethering with root for years without ever subscribing to there proprietary tethering service and not once have they made a complaint or even mentioned it. 30gb + every month for 2-3 years FTW. I wouldn't be worried but i suppose its a personal choice. I pay for unlimited and the device is my property. How i utilize the two in concert should be my own decision.
Well this is what I found out.
1. Both methods to get free WiFi tether just keeps Verizon from "seeing" that you are not subscribed to the "Mobile Hotspot" feature.
2. Using either method uses data from your plan. If I have an 2 gig plan I will still get charged extra for data over 2 gig.
3. I thought either method hid my data usage from Verizon while tethering which would keep me under my plan's limit.
4. I am on a share everything plan so I can use the "Mobile Hotspot" feature w/o paying for its use but need to watch my data while tethering more closely.
5. Thankful for various threads that helped me figure all this out!

What I was saying was that using a WiFi tether app will still use your data. To me it sounded like the guy was asking if he tethered that it wouldn't count against his data limit, which he was. I was telling him that there's no way it could work like that.

Yes. Unless you are on an unlimited plan, or have an amount of money, then don't even bother with the tether. It'll burn through your data faster than you can :crying:.

And I've earned free service with unlimited everything AND NO throttling!
CAN'T beat that!!!
I used the following method to get the native hotspot working. I have used the app 3 times over the last few hours and it has worked every time. If someone could confirm this, I would appreciate it. I am currently on MeanBean.
Edit: Just for shets and giggles, do a speed test first. Mine improved by about .5mbs
Edit#2: This mod will remove the update profile/prl from settings.
In addition to the steps here (which are most likely in every ROM now):
I deleted the following from system/app (do a nandroid first- deleting these may or may not be neccessary. It was just the first thing I tried) :
HtcOMADM_SettingsPlugin_SPCS.apk
HtcOMADM_SPCS.apk
HtcOMADM_Tool_SPCS.apk
HtcSprintService.apk
Then from the dialer:
Enter ##3282#
Select edit mode and enter your MSL
Select Data Profile
Disable Reverse Tunnel Preferred
Hit the back key
Select DSS
Change the proxy server IP to 0.0.0.0
Change the proxy server port to 0
Hit the back key and select Advanced from the main menu
Select RTSP/HTTP setting
Change the RTSP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0
Change the RTSP proxy port to 0
Change the HTTP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0
Change the HTTP proxy port to 0
Hit the back key twice
Hit menu>commit modifications

It shouldn't break media streaming if you use zeroes. I've had my settings at 0 and 0.0.0.0 for a while and I can stream media over 3G. I only ever had problems when I left one of the proxy settings blank instead of using 0 and 0.0.0.0. Blank entries cause errors in Google Play, YouTube, etc.

I was actually going to mention in the OP that alot have people may have thier RTSP/HTTP set up. As I am sure you already know, that was a speed hack that goes way back. My radio was already set up that way as well. I think the trick is in the DSS settings and the Reverse Tunnel disable. I don't know if the OMADM spyware plays a part in it or not.
Alright it is 7:38 EST. I have been running this hack all day. If someone could please confirm, I'd be mighty appreicatve. Screenshots below.

Sorry to say this isn't working for me. I verified that the apk's in the OP are gone, double checked all the settings like reverse tunneling and DSS after a reboot and they were still there, and verified that the proper ro.tether.denied=false is in the build prop. My laptop(s) will connect and the phone gives no errors, but "no internet" is shown on the laptops and I've confirmed that it isn't actually connected to the internet. If I turn off native hotspot and turn on WiFi Tether, WiFi Tether works immediately.
As an aside, I tried this only out of curiosity. Unless you are paying for hotspot, I honestly wouldn't use it even if it did work because WiFi Tether works fine and I don't trust that the Sprint software doesn't have some spyware in it where they can tell that you are tethering (even IF you delete those apk's). Using the native hotspot, it's possible that tethering can be detected and reported to Sprint. Maybe not (I'm not making a claim that they can "sniff you out as I have no proof), but if I wasn't paying for hotspot, out of an abundance of caution I don't think I'd trust the Sprint software.
Mike
Seems to be buggy today. I got a 67 error twice upon starting wifirouter then it connected after closing it and immediately restarting it. I read something about a corporate ip for DSS, I am going to try and dig that up and try it.

I've been using this app for about 2 months now without any problems, up until about 2 weeks ago. Now if I'm in default LTE mode, my laptop and tablet can connect to the hotspot, but I can't open a webpage in Firefox on either device, it just times out. I've verified that Firefox on my phone can access them. Also, I can open a cmd prompt on the laptop and get successful pings on google.com, but it still times out on the laptop or tablet.
If I reboot the phone to be on CDMA/EVDO then everything works fine, just slower. I'm on Sprint. I sent an email to the developer, and he stated he didn't think it was a problem in the app itself but advised me to check the APN settings. I can't seem to locate them on this phone.
Anyone else having this problem, or have any suggestions?
Thanks.

I can ping google.com and get replies from a command prompt on my laptop when I'm attached to the wifi router and the phone is in LTE mode, but my web browser (firefox) will not display the google home page. If I select CDMA mode on the phone, then I can get to google from firefox.
Since I'm getting ping replies, I doubt DNS is the culprit. Seems like it's something with port 80. I'm starting to think Sprint did something to block the app on the LTE network.
Just to check, I reset my phone to factory default and re-installed the app. Same results.
Anyone else having problems with this while on LTE?
Thanks.

I know the app says if you have issues to turn on (or off a certain feature -don't remember which one is it now)

I contacted the developer Fabio, and he thinks I need to change some settings in the APN IPV4 protocol. Problem is, I can't seem to find where to change the settings on this phone. They should be in settings>connections>more networks>mobile networks, but the options are not on that screen. I'm really starting to regret getting this phone. I love the phone itself, but Sprint did a few things to "dumb down" the ROM that just plain piss me off. OK, I get they took out native tethering so they could sell that option. I don't like it, but at least it makes some kind of sense. They also took out the option in contacts to send a incoming call from a given contact straight to voicemail. That just makes no sense whatsoever. Also, I don't like there are no custom ROMs for this phone. If I could get this phone with a plain vanilla Android without all the Sprint mods, I'd be in heaven.
Anyway, does ANYONE have Wifi Tethering working on this phone (LPH-600) with Sprint and LTE?

Try APN Backup Restore, do a backup, gab the XML and open it with notepad or text wranger or any text editor to see if you find the setting that needs to be changed.

Hate to ask the obvious... BUT
HOW? rooted? special rom? special app from play store?
I apreciate the answer but a whole lot of detail is left out to answer the question properly.
So if I could indulge you to please "fill in the blanks and details you left out..."
Thanks in advance

I use WiFi Tether Router from the play store. Your phone does need to be rooted to use it. This will also bypass the tethering limit on the account.
First your phone needs to be rooted, and then you need to have ES File Explorer installed on your phone. You can use ES File Explorer to edit the file in the system folder.
1. Open ES File Explorer
2. Pull up the Menu for it (hold down the multitask button for that)
3. Tap on Tools
4. Turn on Root Explorer
5. Tap on Root Explorer on the left side and go to Mount R/W
6. Make sure all of the settings are set to RW, tap OK
7. At the top of ES File Explorer tap / that should take you to the root of the phone,
Now go to System, CSC, and open customer.xml
When you click on the file it opens it up in read only, you have to hit the menu in the top right corner to edit the file.
Be very careful and only change the things below. I would make a back up of the file and place it somewhere you know you can find it. What you are going to change is in bold.

Save the changes and reboot
Once you are restarted navigate to where the APN's are. System Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names. Once you are there click on the top right corner and tap Reset to Default. That should update the APN, you can now go in and verify that under T-Mobile US LTE the APN protocol is now set to ipv4. If the change didn’t pull over you should be able to edit it and change it to ipv4;
These are the Wifi Tether Router Settings from the developer below. Make sure that your WiFi is turned on before you start the app.
For Samsung Galaxy S5 using this config
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Encryption wpa2-psk
Channel 1
Drivers nl80211
"HostApd Patch" <- UNCHECKED
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKE

Okay after rebooting I get 2 APNs that shown up from resetting to default APN. One is T-mobile US LTE fast.t-mobile.com The other one is T-mobile MMS LTE fast.t-mobile.com. The first one is selected. Does this mean I cannot send MMS without selecting that APN? Is this because I changed the IPV6 to IPV4? Sorry I'm not very good at root stuff. I had tether for my note 2 and was wondering if it was possible for the s5. Not a necessity for me just useful. Anyways just curious if I screwed something up or not.
Edit
So I tried the app Wifi tether router, using those settings and my pc only stays on a limited connection with no IPv4 connectivity. Anyone have an idea of what I did wrong?

The wifi tether router app was working for me..
or you can try flashing this rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2720382
i did and it works perfectly.
The stock "Mobile HotSpot" app works just fine.
SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I followed the directions to the T!
And guess what, I don' see crap! my SSID is not being broadcasted. WHY?
I followed EXACTLY to the letter of the instructions.
---------- Post added at 09:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:24 PM ----------
ok.. So now I DON'T follow the instructions, I set auto for both
Interface and Method and guess what.. I now see the SSID.. Think it works? think again! "The connection is limited" on my tablet.
on my PC, not connected.
Same old crap a different "Trick and tip"
nothing against anyone personally. If I had a dollar for every guide I've followed and it failed, I'd make a ton of money. I should start a site on youtube for people to see me follow people guides, and I don't mess up. I'm VERY good at following directions, but there is ALWAYS something missing.
forexample.. Dude says "only change whats in bold"
WHAT!! nothing is in bold chief !!
thank you!
I followed your notes to the T & yes.......it works!
I just thought the Wifi tether router app was free; but, its so cheap....
then once I close the app my normal wifi connection is disabled. Entering the PW again doesn't matter. I literally must reboot the phone to get things back to normal.
Anything you know about fixing that tiny issue? Otherwise, I'm so thrilled because NOTHING else worked.
thank you!!!
:good:
---------- Post added at 06:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:38 PM ----------
to add..
I think that happens because T-mobile network is holding it up.........preventing the normal wifi connection to not take place unless I reboot. my thoughts.

Works.. but not like this
When I first got my S5 from T Mobile I rooted and installed Alliance ROM. Wifi Thether Router worked out of the box.
I F'd up my phone somehow and had to have it replaced under warranty. This time I decided to stick with the stock ROM, but I couldn't get WIFI Thethering to work. It would connect, and pretend like it was working but always timeout. I had this problem on my S3 and had to change the useragent to get anywhere, which sucked always being served mobile pages.
I decided to try this before changing my useragent again. It did not work. It connected to the network but it didn't even pretend to load any pages. I tried different browsers. Tried different OSes. Then I restored the customer.xml file to the original and somehow everything works again. On Ubuntu 14 anyway. No such luck on Win 8.1. But that's ok, FoxFi's USB Tether works awesome out of the box, with or without root.
Got my free internet back. $150/mo phone bill for unlimited data, at least I'm not paying for internet too.
Has anyone tried this on the Sprint S8 +?

Which of the steps 5 and 7 did you use? Which strings? I want to take the plunge but dont want to jack my phone up.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s7/help/bloat-free-firmware-930u-tried-t3428974
Hotspot hack works here as well. Seems easier than the other method.
1. Download Shortcut Master Lite
2. Search for LTEfunctionality
3. Click on com.test.LTEfunctionality
4. Launch
5. Scroll down to LTE APN Setting
6. Add " ,dun " to APN2 LTE and EHRPD internet under APN type. That line should read default, mms, dun when you finish.
7. Native Hotspot should work. You may have to do this hack again if you update Profile.

I got nothing in the search results. Is this a hotspot to get around the 10gig hotspot limit or just a shortcut to the standard toggle switch???

This is just a workaround to enable Hotspot, similiar to the hotspot hack found in custom Rom's.

The 10GB HotSpot limit is already enabled if you are under the Freedom Unlimited Plan, in this case you dont need the hack.
