As long as your image is 480*800 (w/h) you can use this thread to create your own splash images.
however you must be using the engineering hBoot.

On the OG Evo when you changed pages the picture scrolled. Is there a way to do the same on the 3D?
Also as a side question I saw a boot animation of the ending portal 2 sequence. Does anyone know where I can get this boot animation for my 3D?
pretty sure they disabled it b/c of the carosel, or however the hell you spell it. lol. Im not sure if there is a way to reenable it. I personally dont like wallpaper scrolling but I know alot of people do

Heres the link for the boot animation directly from alpharev http://alpharev.nl/bootanimation.zip
As for the wallpaper scrolling you will need a different launcher like launcher pro. Thats what I use, I missed the scrolling too much. lol

I tried to flash that and it didnt work it just said installing ZIP forever and never did anything else...
I just put together a hackers boot animation based on crash overrides bootup screen from the movie hackers
I made it for my Rogers evo 3d so the zip is Rogers_bootanimation.zip
to use it in a custom rom just rename it Bootanimation.zip
I love this boot up and plan to add more animations to it.
UPDATE: Aug 31. now it loops infinitely

update
i forgot to upload the bootanimation so here it is
heres the sound to go with it
seeing this thread reminded me of that movie, havent seen it in a long time. gonna have to watch it now.
Request one .zip file (bootanimation+audio) in order to flash thru recovery. Tried to get it done before my computer completely crashed on me .
Preview please?
Is kool but you should make it so that it loops. After the initial boot it just stays static.

Oh my god. Lol
I lived this movie when I was younger. Not realistic at all. But I understood you can't show real hacking because it would be boring for movie goers.
I am totally flashing this! Awesome going man!
Actually, some of the stuff they did in that movie was possible only a few years prior.
Read this and see if it looks familiar.

Oh yeah. I know about that and the captain crunch whistlers 2600hz tone that triggered the tone the phone made when a coin was dropped. But by the time the movie came out that was well and fixed.
But I'm talking about "hacking the Gibson" and all that stuff. You know what I'm talking about. Lol

Anyway to get a flashable .zip made up?
Is it also possible to make the sound louder? I could barely hear it when my phone booted up. Thanks!
Help
I'm not sure how to go about making a flashable zip. If anyone can direct me in the right direction I will do it up.

I was able to adjust the volume and made it a little louder.
Now that we have root, has anyone changed their boooader animation? I went searching in the files and noticed it was not as simple as renaming a bootanimation.zip file.
I'm trying to add the good ol energy star bios screen on to mine, had the same on my evo.

You might want to change the name of your thread. This has nothing to do with the bootloader.
I tried to change the boot animation file with an old boot animation file from the razr. Didn't work, still got the same stupid boot animation. that file didn't cause a problem either

I did the same thing, only I just tried altering the original images from the normal boot animation. There seems to be more than one location for the boot animation than just the system/customize/resource file location. If anyone can find it, let us know. I'd love to start making some custom boot animations for everyone.

A boot animation? No, I just wanted to know where to put them to actually get them to work. I like to make my own, but am used to Motorola phones. It was just one file location for those boot animations and really easy to change.
It should be in system /media
I have an Evo, but I know on some Evo ROMs it's in data/local. (I think on CM 7 Evo roms). Hope this helps at all.

Well, there's bootanimation.zip in system/media and hTC_bootanimation.zip in system/customize/resource. If I change the hTC boot, nothing happens. If I change the regular boot in media, it's just the htc splash screen and then it all goes black. Luckily it still starts. Not sure what would happen if I change both of them. Kind of afraid to now, haha.
try this one in system/media....

The bootanimation is in the system/customize/resource folder. It's Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip there is also one more called hTCbootanimation.zip in there as well. This is the first I seen a two stage boot animation. The easy was to change is to replace the vigor one and name the new one the same. If you want to change the location you will need to edit the default.xml in the system/resource/CID folder. For instance my bootanimation for my Rom is in system/media/anim folder now. Ofcourse the anim folder is one I created.
One last thing, if you don't delete the hTCbootanimation. You will continue to see the HTC quietly brilliant animation after the splash screen.
Hope this sheds light on the whole topic.

Hmm I wonder if this is specific to Chingy's rom or not. It doesn't seem to play the boot animation and just sticks at the white HTC screen. Although the phone does vibrate once, and if you hit the power button it turns the screen off during the white htc screen. Then if you turn the screen back on it plays the bootanimation for a few seconds before going to the lockscreen. I do see the edits in the default.xml to search for the bootanimation in the /system/media folders. I went in and saw the htcbootanimation in the system/ccustom/resource so I deleted that. Thought maybe that would fix the issue, but no dice. I even edited the default.xml to see if changing the boot animation path to system/customize/resource made a difference. I posted on his thread already, but wonder if anyone else has any ideas in the mean time :x.
Edit: the stock boot animation works without an hitch.... Ima check some permissions and see if that does anything.
I am currently running CM9 and the I would like to flash a ICS Boot animation that fits the entire screen vertically instead of landscape. Does anyone have a link to one? Thank you.

Thank you for your quick response, but it doesn't fill the whole screen like I had hoped, I noticed Evervolv ICS's has a boot animation that fills the whole screen but I am not sure where I could find his boot animation.
Edit: Looking at yours and the one in Evervolv they appear the same for some reason using it on CM9 doesn't render it full screen like it's suppose to. Kinda upsetting but oh well. Thank you.
Looking at yours the and the one in Evervolv and CM9, yours and Evervolv are at 30 FPS the CM9 is at "720 1280 24p 0 0 part0"

I haven't really tried to customize my TP on CM9 yet, I figured it's a very early alpha build and I don't wanna do what I did with CM7 (fresh install every time then install and customize everything all over again) lol but I'll try the bootanimation and I'll let you know if I figure anything out
Bootanimation - Bios boot
Hi...
It might not be what you are looking for but this one is the bootanimation I am using.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055789
I have it on my DS7 and started using it on my TP as well. ^_^
Well I changed the desc file from "768 1024 30p 0 0 part0" to "1024 768 30p 0 0 part0" but it doesn't look nice but it does fill up the whole screen.
I think we need to rotate it. It's not in the right orientation.
Just open the rom with a archive app and extract the animation zip and copy it to your system/media folder

That sounds correct, how would I go about changing the orientation? It looks like the boot animation is made up of a bunch of pictures moving at 30 fps.
Actually I tried rotating all the pic and that totally kill the animation. Will that be something to do with the two "0" in the txt file? But I saw some other ROM with vertical boot screen has that two "0" unchanged. I guess that's something to do with the kernal

The naming of the files shouldn't be changed, that would probably crash the whole thing or maybe even cause a boot loop. I also tried rotating the images but that didn't work, and my guess is because of the image sizes, they increase significantly. I'm not a developer in any way but I'm thinking the issue is with how ICS reads the orientation of the animation vs GB (or maybe CM9 vs CM7), because the same exact bootanimation plays vertically on CM7 builds but horizontally on CM9!!!

so the reason, or at least one of the reasons, why the boot animation is oriented the way it is in CM9 is because "ro.sf.hwrotation=270" has been disabled in build.prop and I'm sure they had a good reason to do so because if you try to enable it (which I did) the boot animation will be vertical but nothing else will work lol as in the touchscreen won't work which renders the TP useless. So the best solution (if you're not a dev, just like me) is to wait for our hard working devs to fix this issue.
Minimalist Boot Animation
So saddly i spend about an entire day making a boot up animation for my rooted GS4 and after finishing it i realized that i needed CWM to flash it onto my phone. which is something as of right now is eluding me because the MF3/MK2 updates and their locked bootloaders. well i figured that i wouldn't want this to got to waste just because i cant use it so feel free to download it if you like. i went with a mat red with white lettering on top and a shadow drop off the lettering (Inspiration was the Vine App Logo) its a functioning boot animation from my stand point.
(ill give fair warning that this is my first boot animation and i have ran it through Boot Animation Factory and tried to make sure it all ran fluently from my end and from what i can tell it will work just as expected.)
Disclaimer: if you do not know what a boot animation is or know how to flash one then stay away from this file. NEVER step into something that you dont know what your doing. Read extensively about the subject before attempting. It is not my fault if your phone bricks/ Forever bootloops.
here is a gif of the animation

You don't have to flash it in CWM to get it to work.
Besides, that wouldn't have worked anyhow since you need to use QMG boot animations, not zips.
This thread might be able to help you convert your boot animation into a QMG boot animation. It worked great in 4.2. I suppose it'll work in 4.3 also but I've not tried it.

Well theres a file out that allows for zips to be used again on samsun phones it was founs on the note 2 and they claim it will work for all samsung phones. So no a zip ahoukd work. But ill look into making a qmd. And Ill be honest ive never flashed a boot animation b4 so. Yes I may have a lack of some knowledge but im willing to take risks being that its my phone, But just because I will doesnt mean people should just follow suit because I did it. When im not knowing if it will damage my phone. Also thank you for the link.
