Would it be possible to take the ota that has been downloaded and add our own framework that would be odexed and have it install some cracks?
We have the ota and why not take that and take out the firmware inside and replace with our own methods. Since we already have the framework hacked to unlock the hotspot feature we should be able to replace it via update then.
Just a thought. I'm not sure if it would work but we can try

The ota is signed. Modifying it breaks the signature.

Yeah, but we can't sign it? Or better yet, you can open a zip and push it in without breaking it. I've done that with classes.dex to hack the hotspot in framework.jar and no problems
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Even if you had all the same files and just rearranged what order they appeared it would still break the MD5sum, There is a very very small change that modifying a file would produce a collision between the signed copy and the modified copy

Ok.... Just wish we could manipulate their ota...
What if we didn't rearange. Like if we hacked the framework.jar and kept that the same but just swapped out theirs for ours keeping all else intact. WiFi tether is a huge plus right now until full root comes

So do I, I haven't done any cooking or development myself. But I am almost done a physics and comp sci major and took a class on cryptography (the only reason I know how MD5 works) so I can follow along with some of the stuff.
I took the OTA myself, which people say is terrible, but the 2.3.3 will be rooted easy enough. It always is. I have faith in the devs.

I am not a programmer but my guess is they are looking at the OTA to see where they (HTC/Sprint) may have tried to patch a hole with the update and that is why they say dont run the OTA
Not going to happen.
Oh I know. For now I have run no ota. My main thing is root then hack stock WiFi tether. If I could do tether first, I would be a happy camper till the root happens

You mentioned you're familiar with MD5s, do you think you may be able to figure out a way to modify something without affecting the MD5? I'm sure it has to have some weaknesses being how small it is compared to the size of the file
No Root Needed

Haus, I've seen roms being changed yet the md5 the same. Chubbz asked a good question. Is it possible to make the md5 set? As I recalled many roms being basically stolen then revamped but the core had the same md5.

You and anybody else saying that is just as useful as me saying if you take the OTA, you wont have to wait.
At this point everything looks like its just pure speculation, nobody knows for sure.
When would you ever apply an OTA~ I don't recall a situation where it was a good idea LOL
Can't watch the Green Hornet until I update the software. No thanks.
I didn't update mine yet and it played green hornet just fine. It's a shame they didn't put a better movie on here it actually looks pretty darn good. It's the most impressive 3d content I've seen so far on the 3vo

Where did you get your phone, Best Buy?
I applied the update and now my phone shortcut is missing from the lockscreen and the app drawer. I searched online and apparently it's a common issue and HTC is working on yet another update to fix it. Apparently the first OTA update allowed you to connect to the phone via ADB.... so it looks as if they MAY be in the process of unlocking the bootloader for us.
Either way, there are a few small bugs to work out.
I wouldnt apply the OTA.. i know that its not confirmed it will do anything to affect root. However my understanding is the devs working on root didnt do it and im not going to either. Id like my phone to be as similar to the ones they are working on as possible just in case it matters.
On top of that i dont see any problems from not installing the OTA.
Too funny. You guys say you don't trust the OTA but you trust the software that came on the phone to begin with? Anyhow, HTC put out an update for a reason- it fixes things that are broken. If you want a partially functioning and buggy device, do not apply the update. If we had root I could see why people would be so concerned about losing it. However, we do not have root and who knows when we will. So, if until then you want a phone that works properly, apply the update which probably isn't going to change a whole lot in regards to your ability to root.
So if I did apply the update I'm f'ed??

Nor will you know what it's doing because they didn't release the source and it is nearly impossible to decompile it and figure it out the way they did it. I'm glad they did it this way even though I would like to know, it's just better this way.
It's a binary file. Which means it is extremely difficult to decompile and see the code to know what it's doing. Some strings may show in it, but it's near impossible to know what the rest says without out knowing what kind of data type every bit of data is.

It's only there so that if something goes wrong (bricked phones, etc.) the Revolutionary team can pull the tool and not just have others uploading it and having more phones bricked. They r not interested in getting your serial number because it's unless without the IMEI anyway (as far as I know). Basically if u can't get a beta key you can't run the tool.

SteelH and flipzmode would be good to PM and inquire about. SteelH, I know that he is on the E3D/3vo/whatever you call it (OG EVO owner here). Flipzmode, I don't know if he got an EVO 3D but he managed to find and get rid of most of it. SteelH pretty much demolished all traces of Loggers and CIQ and everything in the OG EVO Gingerbread ROM release
Main thing is to sever the connection between your phone and HTC.
There is some in the kernel, so someone would need to strip it out of there too.

I checked these 3 and had loads of crap in them. I used root explorer to make them read only, and they have set empty since.

Though I'm not 2.3.4, this is pretty heavy info
Via root explorer, I see the files in /data/system. I changed permissions to read only anyway.
Also, 4 files "userbehavior." I changed to read only because I didn't like them either. I will report any negative outcomes. Otherwise, no news is good news from making read only.

Can this be flashed using 4EXT or must it be renamed and flashed like any other stock ROM? (relocking bootloader, renaming file, etc)
Curious because I wanted to update to the "R2" version released by football..but might as well use this if it's already rooted and such, save a little time.
By the way, anyone know what the difference is between the latest ICS OTA and the "R2" version posted by football? (it wasn't posted in the Amaze forums, but it was posted on his filefactory account)
Kind if irritated that I even updated to ICS at all right now (used the OTA) because it seems to have totally borked WiFi calling (there's some kind of crazy delay that appears ~10 minutes into a phone call... other users getting the same thing). Really didn't want to S-OFF and revert to GB, though, so hoping this "R2" release fixed that

THIS IS THE DEODEX version.
currently based on freeza's mj4 deodex stock rooted services.jar (thanks @freeza)
mod based off JoshBeach's previous work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2481448 (thanks @JoshBeach)
it appears the offsets had changed preventing the mi5 version from running. hopefully this fixes that. it appears the new offset is at line 6680.
THE VERSION IN THIS POST IS FOR STOCK ROOTED DEODEXED MJ4 ONLY! SEE POST BELOW FOR ODEXED VERSION
ODEX VERSION:
for those who don't want the screen animations or other tweaks,
this is a stock odex mj4 with the hotspot activated.
not a flashable zip. unzip.
works while keeping knox 0x0
just use a file explorer or adb to copy files into system/framework.
make sure r/w permission for /system is set.
rename old files or make backup first.
Edit.
If renaming the old files you must change the ending or your phone will hang.
So file.end becomes file.end.bak
Or file.old or whatever.
Services.jar to services.jar.bak is ok.
Services.odex to services.odex.bak is ok
Not fileback.end
Services.jar to servicesbak.jar is not ok and will hang your phone.
If you leave the .jar or .apk or.odex on your orig file it will still try and load. Causing a bootloop.
This can be fixed with adb. Look at pages 5/6
I'll give it a shot and report my findings.

Just be careful the couple versions before this locked my phone up. This one looks right and I think I got it working. But it may still lock up at boot screen.
I was able to adb back in though without flipping a knox flag or anything.

Oh ok will try it out. It's in the second post right.
Only issue is I'm at work don't want to have a bricked phone for 6 more hours.

It can wait no hurry. Don't risk a brick.
You can still get to adb if it gets stuck also. May want to make a backup of the original
