Hi everybody!
Is there a way to select 2g/3g network on Atrix?
I mean, an easier way than dial *#*#4636#*#* and change the preferred network..
it should be the voice "select network" in Settings-->Wireless and Network -->Mobile Networks, but i can't edit it, and it's stuck on "Automatic selection".. is there a way to change it??
where i live the 3g network isn't so wide, so my phone continously switch between 3g and 2g, and the battery goes down in half a day, even without using the phone..
I previously owned a Milestone, and I used to select this with the Notification Power Widget of CyanogenMod, or manually in the menu I said before..
Thank to all of you!!

thanks for your answer!!
but... what line i actually have to modify in files you listed in your post??
EDIT: ok, i found it!!
change the line
Code:
"network_select_menu" > "false" > "true"
worked easily!!
you'd better add this in that post.. only a small lack, but with this that post will be really complete!!
Thank you!!

Hi all, I updated my phone via kies mini to j16, now I cannot find the 2G option. I need this because I cannot make or receive calls while I'm in my basement unless I'm on 2G. Anyone having trouble finding it? Have they completely removed this?

I believe it's just be reworded. The option you're looking for is "GSM only" under Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
Give it a try.

It's J EYE 6, not J ONE 6. Anyway...
Not removed, improved IMO but not terribly user friendly I suppose.
Under "Mobile Network Settings", tap "Network Mode".
AUTO = 2G/3G
GSM Only = 2G only
WCDMA Only = 3G only
Hope it helps...
EDIT: Oops, it looks like I missed being post #2 by ~ 2 Minutes.
Ahh thanks

Hey folksI need help. Is there a way to select just the 3g bands?
Here's where I'm stuck:
Dail *#*#4636#*#*
Click phone information
Go down to preferred network type
Select 'WCDMA only '
Now what?

If you did that, you are done!
Just press the home screen and you should be set for 3g only. This screen do not have any save option. As soon you get out of the screen your settings will be saved.
If you are with AT&T, you are still on 2G anyway!
i just add the INFO code as a contact on the phone, that way i can switch between preferred 3g (gsm auto prl), forced 3g (wcdma only) and forced 2g (gsm only) at will. by dialing INFO and just touch the resolved contact.
Whats the benefit?
It's not working for me. I'll keep trying though! Thanks
Francis can you post a step by step guide on how to do this?

Where I live has spotty coverage. Doing anything on EDGE is so painfully slow, I open have to flip airplane mode on then off so I can at least browse XDA properly

Hi, today I followed a guide that was supposed to disable fast dormancy but instead it disabled HSPA+ completely. The method was the on where you dialed *#192328640# and then after a few options you Released R99 which turns HSPA off. The problem is I can't seem to figure out how to turn it back on! I've tried every option in the menu but still no luck,
Any help?
Thanks

First enter service menu via secret code
*#197328640#
In the menu, choose the following items sequentially:
1 (debug screen)
8 (phone control)
3 (nas control)
5 (rcc HSPA control)
And then you will find the well known menu to change the HSDPA settings, as on Galaxy S and SII.
you can follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693529
i hope thjs helps

I've tried this but the options to change revision won't do anything (I tried release 5 and release 6)
try wiping cache via recovery..
if not, flash another modem.. if it still persists, call your network service

There is a threat in general which lists all available modems: search for 'modern i9300'

that menu works weirdly,
1 - deactivate the data connection
2 - when you are in the option rcc HSPA control release 6 , press the both options like a crazy... lol, then keep pressed the first option and then the second one (it's obvious... I am not sure how that menu works xD)
3 - In the normal configuration menu, in the menu where you can change between GSM,WCDMA, select GSM, then WCDMA and at least GSM/WCDMA (automatic mode) <- the default option.
4 - reboot
That is how I get back H+
I am pretty sure this is not related to the modem version or the fast dormancy thing...

Tried this, it shows only H sometimes (no H+) but when I start using the phone it switches to 3G =(
Ur H+ thing depends on your network/signal. Call ur network provider

I know, I had H+ two days ago but when I tried the procedure stated in the OP it was gone! I can't seem to make it appear again, only 3g.
Well.. i suggest (if the H+ is really important to you) to flash back to a stock firmware and do a factory reset
I hope this helps

use the toggle on status bar to switch to only 3g mod in cm9
or dial in phone *#*#4636#*#* go to phone info and switch to whatever network type you want or like fd said go to settings > more > mobile network > network mode and choose wcdma only

@OP: I think you can just leave "Use only 2G networks unchecked" and you should be good to go. But I might be wrong
I have it on p-one that is miui on cm9.
3g preferred, 2g only, 3g only.
I remember also cm9 has it but maybe I'm wrong.
Usually I switch between 2g and 3gpreferred, never used 3g only.
if your rom doesn't have network mode you can use that code or the toggle from statusbar any method have the same result

There isn't even a "Network" option under "more". The closest thing to "network" that is there is "mobile networks" and even under that there is no "network mode" option.

Where is the setting to rename the device ID on a network? I don't like that it comes up as a long name under router and tether info page.
I used to do it on my Inc but can't find it now.

Nope, that only changes the blutooth friendly name. I'm looking for network name change. It shows up as something like android-16945agr956
Would rather say Note II, or the like...

try Settings -> development -> device name.
That's where I thought I remember that setting being, but I don't see it on my device. Is it usually only under custom roms?

I've only seen device ID change in AOSP/AOKP Roms, in dev section though on those roms...

Add the following to system/build.prop and reboot the phone:
net.hostname=YOURNEWHOSTNAME
Your router should pick it up. I just tested this and it worked on my WRT400N router.
That's is! Thanks.
Sorry if I was calling it the wrong thing before and confusing people, it was host name I was looking to change. Added that line in the build prop file and rebooted phone and router and it now has a friendly name!
Sent from this Note 2 using xda app-developers app
To edit build.prop file, had to download and use "Build Prop Editor" from Google Play (would post link but being a n00b I can't ) as other editing methods would not allow me to save my changes.
Props to alistairs1 for the workaround. :good:
Cheers
