After countless true of getting full ubuntu and some sort of desktop look on my ATRIX I today reflashed a rom formated both internal external storage and attempted the webtop2sd way.. now I got no webtop when docked just a small mirror of my phones screen on my giant tv... I know the easiest way to fix will be to flash a webtop zip via cam. But does anyone got any pointers for this desktop mod?
I just did mine last night. I had a huge problem as well and my whole webtop completely died.
I ended up flashing my ROM and got everything back again and then I tried using webtop2sd again. This time everything worked perfectly fine, I didn't have any problems, I just turned off screen timeout and then just let the program execute. Right now everything is working perfectly fine.
I am not very sure what the problem could have been or if my solution is the best one, but it seemed to work for me.

did you re-install webtop after flashing? i thought most of the ROMs don't include webtop.
yeah tried reinstalling webtop.. i flashed back to aura 1.3#5 as testing through the different builds its what works best for me i formated everything so it was all clean and all i got was a mirror image of my fone no webtop... ive reverted to this for now (Full Linux (Debian) inside WebTop! v0.2.6) which i am just about to test and see if i can get what i want from it.. cheers guys
I'm looking a bit more at rooting via manual nooter on OS 1.4.1.
As of now, the Android Market is not working
In my hands, the BN shop is also not working. Books cannot be downloaded. (The reader does work, though, so you can shop and then download to your PC, then push the files in manually if you like.)
Together, those two elements not working argue against rooting 1.4.1 for anything other than study and development, I think.
- 1.4.1 installs on a device which had already been rooted (this device is rooted but not overclocked.)
- boot from a manual nooter 4-5-18 disks works
- after applying MN 4.5.18 and the APK enabler, the device booted. Root was retained and SU works fine (I was able to use adb wireless)
- install via ADB works
Other things to be aware of:
- this is not a Gingerbread release for the NC.
- the home button behavior is changed a LOT. Home Catcher for the Nook Tablet will also work here, though.
- the device automagically snarfs Google contacts if it's registered to a gmail address, it seems. There is no warning on that. I think that behavior is a Big Effing Problem.
About to try hopefully it works. I know I couldnt install update on 1.3 with CWM going back to complete stock and then update and then MN.
Yes, if CWR is written to your boot, you cannot install BN updates.
It might be possible to use a flashable 1.3 installer to write only /boot, reboot, then update to 1.4.1. I know there is a flashable 1.3, but I do not know where it lives.

Yeah I went back to 1.3 stock and then to 1.4.1 update.
It would be nice if some one conforms about Market
"It would be if some one conforms about Market"
Yeah, wouldn't it?
I'm figuring from the lack of screaming it's probably working.
Market is up. Some apps still missing. Having a bit of problem with Zeam launcher. Nook launcher is taking control.
Straight from my ICS i897 Sonic Screwdriver!!!!!
So from a rooted 1.3.1 you:
Use CWM to install a vanilla 1.3 ROM, then update to 1.4.1 via B&N download, then root using only 4.5.18? I seem to remember to root 1.3.1 you needed to root with 4.5.16 and then 4.5.18.
I have been able to use 4-5-18 without any problems on both 1.2 and 1.3.
You may not even need to install the vanilla ROM - you may well be able to install to a rooted device, so long as you have not meddled with /boot, either by installing a CWR boot internally or by overclocking.
My fast experiment this morning involved updating a rooted 1.3, then rooting that resulting 1.4.1.
Anyone check to see if it will still boot from an SD card, just want to confirm before update, but because it is still rootable I can always downgrade.
Edit: I am in the process of updating as I type this, I will post the results in case anyone else needs them.

Others have tested and confirmed, but that's not something they can change on this device with a software update anyway
Good to know, I hadn't seen it yet but my testing confirms this, thanks for the reply

In my case the Market runs but it's totally useless: I can't see my apps, it doesn't find most of what I want to install and when it does I can't install anything (it just goes back to the Apps menu). So it totally sucks since the B&N market is really lame!

For whatever reason, many Nook Colors that come stock with 1.3 installed just bootloop if rooted with 4.6.16, even if rooted first with 4.5.18. I can confirm this with a new NC purchased for my girlfriend's mom. Runs OK if just rooted with 4.5.18, except for it having the ancient market. Haven't been able to update the market yet, though gmail will update itself.
Updated to 1.4.1 (had to return to stock 1.3 to install the update, even without CWM flashed), using homecatcher to overcome the new "n" button "feature", but market is hit and miss. Was able to download and install Astro, but Titanium Backup doesn't want to download and install. I'll try sideloading it later.
What's the new n button feature? Is it possible to make a flashable update, like with 1.2 and 1.3?

If you press it once, it brings up the B&N "dock" that used to be at the bottom of the screen. If you press it twice, it brings up the B&N launcher.
Correction, I thought I was able to download Astro from market, but apparently I didn't. Now I've got no way to sideload apps, which makes this pretty useless...

ADB commands are your friend! Pretty much as long as you can enable ADB you can sideload with zero issues.

I realize this, but this nook is a gift for my girlfriend's mom, who lives out of state, and I know there's no way she's going to sideload everything using ADB... I need to get her a working market, even if I've got to go back to 1.3 and disable the update.
Ended up using 4.5.18 on my stock 1.3 NC. ADB Sideloaded in the Kindle app and a couple others and used the Nook App Manager to drop icons out on the main stock launcher page. I was really looking to add teh Kindle app so I could read all my purchased books on a single device, so I'm quite content. I'd like to see better market, etc but it's not a dealbreaker for me.
Just in case someone follows this thread, rooted 1.4.1 is working well now. manualnooter-5-12-18.zip does it for ya.
Market works. You can add non-B&N apps to the B&N app and home screens using Nook Color App Manager. Putting the Kindle app on there is no problem. Netflix, HBO GO and Max GO work. Hulu Plus refuses to run on the device. B&N subscriptions download and update the dock. B&N enhanced content (e.g. Wired magazine) work fine.
If non-techie friends and family want an enhanced B&N Nook Walled Garden experience, this will do it!
I can get my table to root using nook zergy, but when it comes time to choose a launcher, I get to choose from 3...the two off the top of my head I can remember are AWD launcher and Honeycomb launcher.
When I choose either launcher, the files cannot be found and it moves on and tells me to press any key to continue. Then it moves on to the block OTA questions and blote removal option. I can get the system to reboot, but nothing is done. When I run nook zergy again it tells me that I do not have the "hijacker" installed.
I'm totally lost. Please help.

You need to either use adb hijack app to install the remaining things from nook zergy or factory restore and start from scratch

I have done a factory reset 4 times. Will I need to install the hijacker after I root or before? Being the noob I am, I think I would install on the device, then root.
Any direction you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I'm not super technical, but I was able to root my nook color without issues.
Sounds like you just need to side-load in a replacement launcher, then eat a sandwich and drink beer. My preference is Go Launcher.
Hijacker is needed to allow a rooted tablet to be recognized by Zergy.
After a factory reset, you must "Unregister" the device to truly blank it.
If everything else went well though, sounds like you just simply need a launcher.

i'm confident my resets worked since I got back to the factory tutorials and I had to register the device to proceed. Should I root and then side load?

Use Ccleaner to clean up your pc off temp files, cache, etc and registries. Proceed with root. If you still have problems try in another machine (Windows is not your friend sometimes ... ok ok many times! )
changing computers helped. Still took me a couple of tries for some reason, but I made it work. So far my uncle is enjoying it.
Thank you all for your help.
My HP Touchpad on ICS (Cyangenmod 9) is refusing to start. Keeps flashing the message "Unfortunately Trebuchet stopped working" and when i touch on ok, the message pops up again.
this is the sequence in which it happened:
My daughter was playing Temple Run and the TP shut down because the battery was over.
I plugged it into the wall charger and after about 10 minutes of charging (the screen showed a big battery symbol with a red line beside it)
and then the boot screen came on, with cyanogen mod highlighted and in few seconds started to boot into ICS, and the screen showed - Cyanogen MOd 9 Loading - and stayed like that for 45 minutes;
I felt it got stuck and held the power button and vol up for a few seconds to reboot and this time it reboot with the Android icon with lots of blue around it. And thats when it started flashing the message "Unfortunately Trebuchet stopped working"
also the system tray (?) lower right corner, flashed a popup saying the sd card is damaged; and when touched it , showed the message 'sd card damaged - format or cancel- touch on either one and the Trebuchet message comes on...
went back to the boot screen and tried to boot into webOS, but somehow it jumped back into cyanogen mod.
i need help. do i need to reinstall the entire cyanogen mod package again and if yes, how do i do it?
and where is the sd card located? is it user accessible?
thanks

The sd card is a virtual one, in other words, there is no sd card. It's created when installing android.
I recommend leaving the TP plugged into the charger for at least a few hours, then try booting again. If the problem persists, you might have to doctor. It's not hard. Go to the webos nation forum and search for webOS doctor and follow the instructions. It might not be a bad idea to uninstall android, then do a new, clean install. You should be good to go. BTW, try to not let the battery run down all the way. As you can see, it can cause all sorts of problems.
Good luck.
thanks

Thanks; I have already cleared most of the problem by using webOS Doctor; I think I need to do a clean install, for that i have to uninstall cm9 by using the ACMEUninstaller, right? i am a noob, so...
will that help me recover some space, because now with just webOS on the HP Touchpad, I have just about 5 gigs?

Yes use ACMEUninstaller to remove cm9 just do exactly what you did to install but replace ACMEInstaller2/3 with ACMEUninstaller.
For guidance my 32gig Tablet shows a hard drive size 27.2 with just webos and 25.5/25.4 with Android installed the lower figure using ACMEInstaller3 as it takes an extra 100mb .

Read this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244 (read the whole thread).
This fixed my "lost space" problem. I had about 16gb missing, but this got the partitions 'right' Good luck.
Running Android 4.0.4 on Emerson EM543 Tablet. Could not install Google Play so had to install Android Market. Market apparently somehow disables the Android system LockScreen. So, now trying to get lockscreen back on boot (downloadable apps, as far as I can see, don't lock screen at system boot, which is what I want). I got a terminal emulator and was wondering if there was a Linux command line argument I could use to start Droid lockscreen at system startup. Any suggestions?
I thought I was getting close with this solution, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499906, but it is for an HTC Amaze 4G, and I can locate the AdroidManifest.xml files in the apk files on my system (using ROM Toolbox Pro Root Browser). But, even if I could figure out how to do it there, that file would be changed in the very next update. I am looking for a something similar, just need to know the xml filename or a command line argument that could be used in a startup script.
Thank you.

The Tablet runs fine. It's the lock screen that's still disabled.
I was able to successfully get Android Market on using this process:
xda-developers.com won't let me post links. Google "Installing Google Play without rooting on Android Mobiles or Tablets".
It is not exactly Google Play, but it works with Google Play fairly seamlessly.
I bought another one for my cousin for Christmas. I think it makes a great little inexpensive mp3 player, with the added bonuses of games, email and any of the other apps you wish to enable.
I got the Android Market installed. It made things way easier. This is what the home screen will look like when opened on Christmas morning. Keep me posted if any custom roms, or ideas come up for this tablet. Thanks!
