Anyone else notice the FM Radio? - HTC EVO 3D

Going through the user manual I came across it. App among the included apps. Needs headphones plugged in to get a signal, but can output through the speaker too. Also has RDS which is great. Nice way to keep up on local info as in local weather alerts, local sports, school closings, etc..

It was on the Evo 4G as well. Nothing new.

Except I never had the Evo 4G. New to me. My wife who upgraded from an iPhone was amazed. Half the iPhone users who I mention this to rebutt with "there are radio apps in the apps store". I point out that my local stations don't simultaneously air over the web. No, its not the killer app, but a nice surprise from my point of view.

I discovered the phone has 3D capabilities too!

Hey! Did you all know that the 3VO makes... gasp... phone calls?!?! Just messin, it doesn't really.

3D and phone calls too? This phone never ceases to amaze me! Thanks for pointing those features out! Anything else I might have missed?

Thinkin bout it

I am thinking about upgrading to the evo 3d in a few hours. (15-20)
and i am wondering, is it really worth it?
can anyone please tell me about any issues with the phone that YOU personally have experienced that are major.
main use of phone will be 2d movies, music, texting and some web browsing. calling of course.
lemme know please and thanks lol
My biggest gripe about the phone..... Google Music/ data roaming.
I had NO issues using Google Music on data roaming with the NS4G. With this, I can't really data roam anymore.
My speeds are slow on 3G (but so are everyone's it seems, Sprint is becoming overloaded obviously), and there are said to be towers out in my area.... I've heard that excuse for the past two years... I'm getting sick of it. All of that combined with not getting some phone calls and text messages is a bit annoying.
Other than that one inssue (which affects any sort of data usage really off Sprint's network), I love the phone for what it is! MUCH nicer feel than any other phone (including the OG EVO) I've ever used, and I love how comfortable it is to hold.
Battery life is decent for me, camera is everything I wanted, and you and somewhat attach a lanyard thing to the phone if you really need too (good for takin' pictures).
I'm happy with it, I'm going to keep it..... Sprint's probably not going to like my complaint tomorrow, lol.
So other than there are really no issues? like overheating or anything?
After 20 days I'm 100% satisfied. Take it for a 30 day test drive, if you don't like it return it.

If this is really all you want to do, then don't upgrade. The phone is amazingly fast, stable, and Sense 3.0 is well organized and very nice to look at, IMO. However, what you seem to want to use the phone for is not something that warrant upgrading to this device for.
I upgraded because previous Evo lagged with some of the games I played on it, it had Bluetooth connectivity issues with many devices I wanted to pair it with, my internal memory was full even using apps2SD, etc. I can benefit from the upgraded hardware on this phone due to the type of user that I am.
In your case, however, if you can afford it and want a phone that can do everything you want and a LOT more, then go for it. What I'm trying to say is that you don't NEED a 1.2 ghz dual core processor, 1 gb of ram, a high resolution screen, 3D capabilities with native mirroring to an HDMI source via MHL, etc. to send texts and browse the web. lol
But it won't hurt!

Decided to send it back...After much much debate

Sprint's return packaging finally arrived. I waited a few days, and i have decided i just can't hold onto it. The 3d is cool and stuff, but in reality. It's not that big of an upgrade over my evo 4g..Which i still have, so i'll just run CM7 for a month or so until the S2 comes out. Decent phone, fyi if anyone needs an additional charger (those china chargers that plug onto a wall and charge batteries) and 3 batteries i can sell all 4 for $20 + $3 postage. let me know.

I just returned mine yesterday too, and went back to the Evo 4g also. I don't know why, but I just really liked my Evo 4g's wider screen and keyboard layout. Plus I didn't care for the 3d screen. It reminded me of looking at those old holographic comics that moved when you changed the angle that you were looking at it. Makes my eyes cross just thinking about it.

3D is not the main feature on the EVO 3D. And it's not a holographic thingamajig...
I'm suprise that people over look the fact that the EVO 3D is more powerful than the EVO 4G as far as hardware goes. I would pick the EVO 3D hardware before I even take a second look on the wider screen of the EVO 4G. The wider screen is nice, but I would rather triple multi-tasking...
The hardware itself on the EVO 3D speaks for itself...
This is what I did one day on my lunch break.
1) Turn on my BT setup to connect to my car stereo system
2) Tune into Resco Radio (Streaming internet music, digitally imported, drum and bass channel)
3) Played Asphalt 6 Adrenaline 3D, with sound option turn down by half, I was actually cruising playing to my favorite music from the same device, EVO 3D.
Here is the good part, I did all these at the same time....there were no lag, freezes..or whatever.... EVO 4G cannot do this... The hardware on the EVO 3D speaks for itself ( did I just repeated this ?)...it own's the EVO 4G period
I returned mine tonight... to the charger after a awesome day of EVO3dage!!!
Today me and my 3d did lots of Facebooking, texting, 3d+ ::gasp:: 2d pictures, Then we turned the overclock amplifier to 11 and played Final Fantasy 7, Starfox 64, Chrono Trigger, Sonic 2... Then we streamed some music at the gym. Oh some phone calls too. All with awesome battery life!
AND get this: I'm gonna do it all again tomorrow because I still have mine!

So you expect someone to pay $23 bucks, when they can just go on ebay and pay $10?.... Ok, that makes sense. Don't try to cheat people out. And this phone is a major upgrade compared to the Evo 4G. I still have mine, with CM7, and theres no comparison. This phone is a beast from the middle east.
I just wanted to tell everyone I'm keeping ny device. I can never go back to that lower resolution and dated CPU. This thing is so fast I'm playing n64 roms and android games u never could on the 4G. S off is on the way. Overclocking for fun. But man adw ex is so smooth its just the smoothest experience any of my tech friends have ever seen. That includes an iPhone 4 owner. I'm keeping mine... I should start a thread about keeping it--that'd how happy I am with this product.
I also don't understand why people keep going back to the outdated og evo.
Single Core vs Dual Core. That alone is why the 3D Evo kills the old Evo.
Eh but not everyone is tech savy i guess.
Show me a Evo 4G that can record 720p video at 25+ frames per sec. Show me a Evo 4G that can play back 1080p movie files without a shutter.

3d not the main feature of a phone named evo 3d? Don't know if you're stupid or just trolling.

Just switched from evo3d

I am a longtime htc fan but am finding myself impressed by this phone where the 3d wasnt giving me that umph. Call quality and signal are far better on this phone which has shown better speeds and battery life. I cant wait to see this unlocked cause im diggin it stock and cant wait to see what some devs would do to it ....

I also deactivated my EVO 3D and bought the Photon. It absolutely pulls a much better 3G and 4G signal. I get much better 3G and 4G signal strength and data stays connected unlike my EVO 3D. Phone calls and sound quality is also much better than the EVO 3D. I always get good compliments about the great call quality of this new Photon. I got bad feedback from people when i was using the EVO 3D The build quality is really amazing too. The ONLY thing i miss is HTC Sense. But I need a phone that actually works and the Photon does exactly that.

OK guys, I'm very used to the HTC IME keyboard with it's arrows and I'm having a hard time getting used to the Photon's stock keyboard. My biggest complaint is that it's cumbersome to add punctuation and symbols to my texts/emails. I have to press the number button and/or the punctuation button then search for the qyuestion mark, etc then go back to regular letters... Is there any advice you can give that might make this easier? This is driving me nuts because it takes me too long to type simple sentences. Mabe I'm doing something wrong so that's why I'm asking. I can't see how this keyboard is so good as you both claim... Thanks in advance.
Yeah people were constantly complaining about the evo3d call quality .....the ear piece sounded muffled to and the speaker was a joke. Ive gone from a touch pro to a hero to a desire then a g2 and a mytouch 4g then the evo3d. So i am very accustomed to using sense but the photon overlay isnt bad.

Undecided between the Photon and Evo 3d
Hello everyone! I am thinking of switching my evo for the Photon and I have a few questions.
1) I was wondering if the signal reception is much better with it as some people say? My Evo 3d barely gets a weak 4g signal inside my house and I was wondering if this phone will improve it?
2)I come from the ogEvo and I upgraded to the Evo 3d first because the sprint reoresentarltive told me that my upgrade would end on July 31, do upgrades have a deadline?
3)Another thing that she told me is that if I exchanged my evo 3d for the photon and if I want to go back to the 3d she would charge me another $35 is that right?
4)Also do you guys know if the Photon would support the upgrade of sprint's network? I have read that the evo 3d has the support for the smr upgrade or something like that. Will the Photon still get better reception if that happes?
5)Another problem that I have with the evo 3d is that whenever I plug in my headset and I get a text the notifications get played through the headphones a well a the speaker. I wonder if you guys have the same issue with the photon?
Thanks in advance!

1. Reception is way better.
2. Never heard of a upgrade deadline.
3. Call to customer support will bypass the 35.
4. No idea but it would be retarded to release a line of superphones that couldn't handle the upgrade.
5. Don't use headsets.

I just ditched my EVO 3D....I miss sense , the EVO seems a tad bit more fluid, but with my Photon calls are clearer, no drops and I get better antenna signal. You won't regret this....I also had an EVO 4G which was better call and antenna signal wise. I think Moto's screen is also much more crisp. I really wanted the Galaxy 2 but I broke my4G beyond repair.
1. Yes it is a lot better
2. Yes, what he or she was talking about is your 1 year sprint premier upgrade which ended on 07/31/11
3. Yes sprint does charge a $35 restock fee, but I don't think you will regreat going to the photon. I have both 3d and Photon and the photon is my preferred phone. I also had the evo and loved sense, and while the sense 3.0 does have a lot of nice features some of it gets annoying.
4. From what the network team has told me when sprint switches to LTE its just a simple software upgrade. But Im sure that by the time that happens I will already be on a new phone so not that much a concern for me.
5.Not sure about the noise
If you like sense use spb shell.
Sent from my Photon
Can't comment much on other stuff but I can say that when I was installing the drivers for qpst that there is a driver for LTE modem that installs. So yeah it'll work fine I think.

To avoid the restocking fee just be honest and tell them you were dropping calls and that you kept reading it seems other people have the same problem.

Any former Bionic owners here?

Hey everybody, I currently have a Bionic. It's actually running pretty good now after installing leaks. The main problem I have left is stutters every minute or two when streaming Slacker/Pandora to my car's headunit. Because of this I got Big Red to give me an early upgrade with limits on the phones I can choose. Right now the best phone I can choose is the Rezound. Anyone here have the Bionic prior to the Rezound? If so, what do you like better or worse about it? I have until Mon to make up my mind. Any bluetooth streaming problems? Any comments or opinions are welcome.
Thanks in advance
BionicBlues
If it helps, I had the RAZR for 3 days before i got the Rezound,
The Screen is heads and shoulders above both the RAZRs and the Bionic's, Pentile can't even compare to this.
I haven't had any stutters on Bluetooth or on Pandora.
Battery life isn't fantastic but its good enough, I can get through the day with no charging and moderate 4g usage.
I have the Bionic and just bought the Rezound today... Very happy with my decision, here are some key differences...
1) Rezound Camera is Superior
2) Data & Voice at the SAME time! This is a huge bonus HTC has given us and nobody talks about it - smh
3) Screen is 2nd to none... I've owned A LOT of phones over the past 18 months including iPhone 4s, Nexus S, & Bionic. All claim to have great screens but I would put the Rezound on top followed by iPhone 4s & Nexus S.
4) HTC Sense is the best user interface by far for Android at this time...
5) umm... Dre Beats headphones and audio enhancements of course!
6) Rezound is just an all-around sexier phone ;-)
Hope this helps!

I was having a difficult time trying to decide between the Rezound and the Nexus, but the deal breaker on the Nexus for me is the no additional storage. That may not be a big deal for some people, but not having as an option sealed the deal on the Rezound for me.

There is a hacked version of Zumocast floating around in the XDA Forums to work with any device. I have Zumocast working on my Eeepad Transformer and my Rezound. Also I came from the Bionic and this phone is much better all around. I agree with everything Allareconnected said in his post.
Here is the link to the Zumocast from my dropbox.

Thanks nrage. That was my final piece. I remember that patched version now. I put that on my xoom. Come Monday when CS calls me back, I'll be getting my Rezound. I really haven't heard anything bad only positives. Too bad for the Bionic, this phone COULD be spectacular.

I also had the Bionic, but returned it that same week. The one thing that killed it was a grounding feedback noise whenever you connected a headphone. But over all, the Bionic is way out of its league compare to the trifecta.
The leaks cleared up my data issues and I never had the headphone noise. I really do like the screen too, I mean you can see it fine in direct sun. It's just the sub par camera and the bluetooth issues that are driving me crazy. The Rezound's display is beautiful and camera much better. The lack of root is kind of unsettling tho. I'm also worried that the majority of devs are going to flock to the GNex.

I'm concerned about dev support too..The Bionic made me a daily android phone blog reader since February, I was ready to buy one until I heard the rumors about the Vigor and now it's here (as the Rezound). Played with it at the store and came away generally impressed. But I imagine I'd want to tinker with it and trick it out.

This phone is a beast...definity meets my needs!

I know that there are probably other threads just like mine but I just had to get this off my chest.....for everyone that's disrespecting this phone and saying its a slouch, slow etc.
Some of you may know me from selling/trading phones over in the marketplace. I've had every high end phone on Sprint, some phones I've owned twice or even three times. Nevertheless, I got rid of them because I just didn't like the phone or wanted something else.
Well, I got me another Photon and I come to find that I really like this phone. True it has some issues that's in my opinion is very minor. Those issues consist of the small amount of laginess when unlocking the phone and for some reason when ever I'm typing the vibration of the key press just stops. Then it starts back after I stop typing again...I don't know what's up with that...but those are the only two issues I have with this phone.
Now as far as the good, the reception is out of this world. I get excellent service and bars where I got no or little service on both my NS4G and E4GT. The only phone that came close is my iP4s. I went to the mall here where I live and while the wife and kids were doing some shopping, I decided to pull out the Photon and surf the web. I was expecting that the data would be slow to non existence. But to my surprise, data was working and fast too. Again, this wouldn't have never happened on my NS4G or ET4G. The speaker on the photon is a beast as well. It definitely blows the NS4G out of the water. The E4GT has a good speaker too but begins to crackle at a certain volume.
Not to mention all the accessories that's available for the photo. I'm currently in the market for lap dock
If I'm just blabbing, I apologize. I'm just giving this device some love. I'm already talking my co-worker into getting an Electrify on US Cellular.

babble all you want, your basically just repeating what I have been saying since August!!
I have my gripes with the touch screen, but this is the best PHONE on Sprint. Best reception and sound quality that money can buy.

On a side not, I just tried Google Hangout with my cousin. And wow.. what a nice thing to use.
I'm glad I switched back to Android from the iPoop.

Yeah you're definitely all over the marketplace thats for sure lol. I never thought you'd be back to the photon. I too have used all of sprint's phones except the iPhone and Photon imo is the best Android device they've had so far. Honestly, I believe EVERY problem with device lies within the software I.e blur etc. Hardware is flawless ...

I agree on all counts as well. The phone is awesome. And also agree that if Moto unlocked the bootloader without losing 4G then we can get rid of the blur stuff and really have a outstanding phone.
I'm loving my accessories.
