Will I still receive softwares updates? (Especially 2.2.3 when it's released)?
As you can tell, I'm kind of useless.
yes AFAIK 10char
If you just rooted it, yes. If you install any of the mods, then you will have to SBF back to a "stock" release to have the checksum's match up for the OTA's to work.

Is leak 3 the same as the ota update that was released? If not can someone tell me how to update from v3 to OTA
next time just search but here is the explanation:
technically they are the same thing except the OTA has a different bootloader from v3 and that means you CANNOT root the v3 (believe me i have tried and almost bricked my phone).
ALSO if you are on v3 you CANNOT upgrade to the OTA manually because it your phone will recognize it as a downgrade because it has all the same files except for the bootloader even though it is a different file.
On the other hand when Froyo comes out (if it comes out for the droid eris) you probably will be able to upgrade to that but that will be a long ways away. So sadly you're stuck with v3 right now.

Thanks for not bombing me simple answer
My Friend has leak 3 and well we wanted to make sure its the same thing...
is it possible to hack the bootloader?
Man. Im glad I was patient. I was tempted to leak before root came out. But I was sold on root and ota. Ota didn't come out quick enough so I had decided to go with root. It's just more flexible to go that route anyway. And theoretically you can unroot if you flash the downgrade to 1.5 Rom and jump on to 2.1 Ota. But with root you can always keep your options open. Well if you have insurance, you can always get a replacement when you lose it, and root that.

I'm currently rooted, have titanium backup, deleted a bunch of bloatware, but that's about it. Will this screw up my phone when I update to Froyo via OTA update? OR can I just safely update when T-Mo rolls out froyo?
Thanks in advanced!
EDIT: Oh, and lets say I called T-Mo and got an unlock code, and unlocked my phone RIGHT NOW with the current FW, JID, will I lose the unlock?
Bump, anybody have a solution to my question?

Your YMMV. Last time Tmo rolled out JI6, many people with removed bloatware complained about issues. Stuck at Boot up. Not sure, if you would have any issues. only time will tell. If you have a backup of your stock, you can restore and manually force a update request once its rolled out. hope this helps.
=/ I don't have a backup of my stock
What do I do then?
My understanding is the update.zip file from rooting was causing the brick issues. If an ota comes all you have to do is unroot your phone before you install. You can be on a custom rom. I recieved an ota notification while on Bionix and after unrooting I accepted, installed and had no issues. Hopefully that answers your question.
regardless, if an OTA comes I would not accept it. Chances are that if YOU got an OTA update, it was on XDA days/weeks before you got it... and they should have a stock version with Root enabled that you could just flash.
If you do not have a backup, make one now! It's too easy to not have one. It's in the sticky if you do not know how.
I hear conflicting views in the threads:
Some say that the phone should be on stock JI6 for the supposed Froyo OTA update to kick in, some say it is not required.
I am confused - who is right?
If you want OTA then yes you need to be back on stock.
The others are probably telling you to not bother because you are most likely better off on the build you already have

If you want to get the update, yes you should go back to stock. There is always the potential of the update bricking your phone. Or maybe not, but do you want to take the chance
Will someone have a flashable ready lol... Im more scared of ota then flashing
I think I will stick to KA5. The last JI6 OTA update bricked my phone.

Why would the update brick his phone, I mean sure updates can do that if something goes wrong, but are you suggesting because he has installed custom roms in the past, this puts him at a greater risk for bricking a phone via OTA?

actually it does.
A LOT of people including me were bricked with the last update JL6 or something.
Flashing is easier because you can see whats happening, and its pretty easy as well...
OTA, it comes through the air, which is... hard espically if you live in a low signal area you ota can get interrupted and then just stop.
If I switch back to stock and download the OTA will I lose root? If so I'm assuming if I re-root the way I did the first time I would be just canceling out the update. Would that be correct?
Sounds like you are rooted now. I would not doing anything. In the past I would let the update drop and not take it. It's only a matter of time before someone pulls what is needed from the official update and applies it to a rom. I feel it's just easier that way. You keep root and don't loose the freedom of trying new roms.
The ota has been out. The only difference is it is official and not leaked. Most, if not all the devs have updated their roms with the newer verision. If you download a signed ruu you will lose root, and there is no sure thing that the exploit has changed, thus making the older root process still usable.

Quick question(s).
1) What steps do I take to throw my phone to completely stock (Im running bamf 1.6.3) in order to receive the OTA properly?
2) Any new news on when gingerbread is coming out for the tbolt?
I do have a nand of stock root on my phone, so after I restore that (if thats what i should do) how to i remove root so i can get gingerbread OTA correctly?
As for the reason I'm wanting to do this is because I want to try out the stock gingerbread and I don't like to upgrade android without an OTA, once I get sick of it I will be re-rooting it.

Ota won't roll out for a couple weeks. There's a thread to get you back to security on. I think it's in general.
I'm not really sure what is to be gained by un-rooting, doing the ota update, then rooting again. Other than DRM stuff while you are not rooted (google vids, blockbuster, etc).
I'm sure the stock GB ROM with root will be available here before the OTA upgrades start, certainly no later.
Of course it's your preference, I'm just curious.

1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423 will get you back to where you're looking to go.
2) ETA on the OTA is all rumor and speculation but the latest rumor and speculation is end of June. I think someone has concrete info from Verizon that said sometime in 2nd qtr but that's a pretty broad spectrum.
*Usually the OTA leaks before it's actually pushed out by Verizon and we get to play with it for awhile before the rest of the world sees it (it shows up in development.) The MR1 is a good example of that...it was a carbon copy of the leak (and the nand root that you have.) I know it's completely your decision but you'll probably be able to run the OTA for awhile before it actually gets pushed out by Verizon if you stay rooted. You just have to wait for the devs to say it's ready to go for rooted phones (which is usually right after th leak hits the light of day.)
